Look around you. You've noticed it, right? The Christian community seems to be looking more and more like the world around grief, chronic illness, mental health challenges, broken marriages, addiction––aren't these supposed to be the things Jesus sets us free from? And yet, it doesn't seem to be working anymore, does it? Has the Gospel of Jesus somehow lost its' power? Absolutely not! Kent and Heather McKean served in the full-time ministry for over 15 years across the United States and abroad, which has provided a unique insight into some of the challenges facing members and leaders alike within the Christian churches. For years, Kent and Heather tried to ignore the growing discontent and disillusionment they witnessed in their congregations and within themselves until Heather found herself near death. After years of suffering from debilitating chronic illness, Heather used the methods described in this book to heal from all major health issues. She also experienced an unexpected but radical transformation in her faith and relationship with God. Kent witnessed his wife's incredible change and was inspired to dig deep into his limiting beliefs around himself and God, finding profound transformation in his own life. From that time on, they answered the call to share this information with the world. Since 2013, Kent and Heather McKean have been on a journey of discovery. Through their personal work and work with hundreds of clients worldwide, the McKean's created the Metanoia Method® to help people understand God's intended connection between the brain, body, and Bible. The Greek word used for repentance in the Bible is metanoia, meaning "mind change." True biblical repentance (metanoia) requires a radical change of mind. Using the latest research in brain science, psychoneuroimmunology, quantum psychology, and the mind/body connection, Kent and Heather show us how the Bible not only backs up the latest scientific findings but expands upon them. Mind-opening and life-altering, The Metanoia Method is sure to stir heart and soul. Now more than ever, we need to challenge the beliefs of our "brokenness" and step into faith and healing. Are you ready to change your mind?
The Missing Link – Mental, Physical, and Spiritual Healing
Have you ever felt that your life is hopeless? That you are not good enough, you do not measure up? Have you felt that there is no way forward? Physically, emotionally or spiritually? When you have tried a thousand different things, methods for healing whether it is for your physical ailment or a spiritual-, mental challenge but nothing helped? I have. Even though I am Christian. More than that a minister! I had this inner voice telling me that it shouldn’t be this way! I have talked to a great number of women who are devout believers, worship God yet the “I am not good enough” defines their lives. I studied mental hygiene, became a zealous fan of CBT, tried to change my mind, and encouraged others to do the same around me. I believed that we are in the trap of our own thoughts and I believed that there I am not a victim, there is a way out. But something was missing, I felt pulled back again and again thus making the changes temporary only. Then I picked up Heather’s first book, “Mind Change”, the missing link. She explained how our brain works and how our subconscious processes the thousands of incoming information in a simple, easily understandable manner. “Our unconscious mind has a bunch of filters that delete, distort, and generalize external events that we see, hear, feel, or read about. These filters have been programmed by our experiences in life and thus distort, delete, and generalize around according to our previous programming. This is what we refer to as ‘our reality’.” It helped me to understand that it is not enough that my conscious mind is thinking differently, but I need to deal with my past experiences, memories, and all the stored “data” from my past. What I loved the most about her first book was that she did not only shared the theory with us but have us practical help, tools, steps that any one of us can take ourselves. For me, science and spirituality can work together. It is amazing to see through the Bible that God has revealed things a long time ago that are now being “discovered” by the scientific community. I was very excited to read Heather’s new book in which I knew she will touch on this topic. But the book surpassed all my expectations! I was amazed at the diligent research that Heather and Kent have done on the Scriptures and their applications. It was heartwarming to read the many passages from the Bible that gave me hope and guidance while being supported by cutting-edge scientific research. “There is nothing new under the sun.” Amazing book! Everyone should read this! It helps you better understand God, gives you hope, guidance, and tools to see that we don’t have to be victims but we can be heroes, the people God dreamed us to be!
From a theological perspective, the word Metanoia is defined as , a transliteration of the Greek μετάνοια, means after-thought or beyond-thought, with meta meaning “after” or “beyond” (as in the modern word “metaphysics”) and nous meaning “mind” (as in the modern world “paranoia”). It is commonly understood as “a transformative change of heart; especially: a spiritual conversion.”[1] The term suggests repudiation, change of mind, repentance, and atonement; but “conversion” and “reformation” may best approximate its connotation.[2] In The King James Version of the Bible, its verbal cognate metanoeo/μετανοέω is translated as repent.[3]
Whereas, the Metanoia Method is defined as a healing system utilizing the principles of the Bible to change your mind. As Romans 12:2 says, God’s plan is for you to be renewed by the transformation of your mind (metanoia). We incorporate Biblical backing to the science we use. God created our amazing brains.
Although I can appreciate the algorithms and analogies the authors used, I found The Metanoia Method to be, metaphorically speaking, a 267 page lesson on re-formating a hard drive (the human mind) that was corrupted with many viruses and worms. Some of those viruses were of an unknown origin that had to be researched through a bevy of paperwork to get the solutions. And our operating systems are the concsious and the subconscious/unconscious mind. (pg. 82) Woven throughout this lesson you will find various definitions of brain functionalities as they attribute/not attribute to our actions.
Both writers give their testimonies on where they were in their lives and how they successfully made their turnarounds. In the writers’ demonstrative attempt to explain why many of us, us meaning Christians, have found ourselves in a deadend street, referring to the church as more of a spiritual hospice than what it should be; a hospital—to which I concur. There are more sick and disgruntled people in church than the hospital. The writer then begs the question. “Is this what the church has become to us?” (pg. 71) I think many believers are asking themselves that question today. When they find themselves in a stalemate with their perception of God because, according to the writer, “we have not yet acknowledged the fact that our upbringing has a direct effect on how we conceptualize God and discern the scriptures.” He is convinced that once we accept this fact we will be willing to observe our views from a higher perspective. (pg. 98)
In this 267 page construct you will find a 19 Chapter expedition designed to help you reprogram your mind or rewire your mind from living a life that is a reflection of your own perspective to living a life that is full of all the intricate attributes culminating a reflection of God. In other words, How we see God and what kind of God we worship has a massive impact on how we live and feel. (pg. 114)
In all truthfulness, I opened this book with an opened mind, enthusiam and hope. As I am searching for answers concerning the church and its effective function in the life of the believer as it relates to me on a personal level. The writer says, “The answer is in Jesus’ teachings. We must get back into alignment with how we were created to live and thrive: to love God—mind, body and spirit.” (pg. 68) Going back to the root is quintessential in discovering the true adherence to God’s word correctly. Instead of killing ourselves by accepting old teachings and ineffective traditions. We need to nail the coffin shut on old identities, beliefs, legacies and lies. Then with that new mindset we have a clearer picture on how to address the “how” and the “why” that is our driving force. Then the real healing can begin. That’s what Heather did. (pg.37)
If you like reading intellectual books with a clinically psychological spin; that has you pencil to papering your way heart first into your issues. The Metanoia Method is definitely the book for you. By all means pick it up—it may serve you well. Some people have to take this route in order to get their breakthrough. Hands on sometimes serves as a better memory reinforcement method than memorization itself. After all, “Changing your mind, rewiring your neuropaths are the nuts and bolts of The Metanoia Method.” (pg. 236)
This journey will have you feeling like your laying on a psychologist’s sofa one moment. Then the next you’ll think you’re in a laboratory and sometimes you may feel as though you’re in a classroom environment. Yet, somewhere in those three environments you are sure to find some semblence of yourself. With all the different software hacks there is no way you could be missed; i.e. Memories are the building materials you use to construct your current and future realities. (pg. 231)
At best you will walk away with several golden nuggets such as how Greek translations can change a scripture in its entirety (for those of us who don’t read Greek-Hebrew bibles), what repentance means as it relates to a changed mind, or how powerful our thoughts are. At worst, you will grasp the conceptualization of the red and blue pill as it results in our choices. Taking that red pill will have you going down the rabbit hole of your mind, in search of yourself. The author admitted he’d been in “the Matrix” for too long and needed to unplug. “For too long I ignored the voices, the signs, the nudges of the Holy Spirit.” (pg. 45) And the consequence of that action is we end up staying in a world created by our fears instead of faith.
However, I do agree with the writer’s assessment at the books beginning, “…something in our collective religious culture needs to be re-evaluated.” (page16) Whether The Metanoia Method is the answer to that issue with total healing of believers…The jury is still out on that.

Verified Purchase I was very impressed with the vulnerability of Heather and Kent McKean, to share their personal experiences. I appreciate their journey and their desire to share the biblical principles paired with scientific principles that they have implemented in their lives and have used to benefit others. All of us are affected in one way or another from our upbringing, environment, experiences, etc., Each of these shape who we are and how we filter our everyday experiences. Our bodies truly do keep the score and this works helps to provide access the resources that can release these emotions, experiences and traumas.
Some pearls of wisdom: -Who we were created to be...God made it so simple, love him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (Deuteronomy 6: 4-5, Matthew 22:37-40) -Fear, Insecurity, Guilt, Shame (F.I.G.S.) . "As human beings today, we have covered ourselves with so many leaves of F.I.G.S. that it's hard to even know who were were created to be." -True repentance is a mind change, which start from within...Instead of doing the right thing or else...I had to learn to love God because he first loved me (1 John 3:) -Feedback: "itself is not weaponry or danger. Its just feedback. What I do with that feedback is what matters. This is a healing moment." -Victim Mindset: the power is outside us; Victor Mindset: the power is within us ... "Though we cannot always control what people do around us or to us, we can have complete authority over the way we feel about it and what we do with. Instead of giving others the power over how we feel, we take responsibility and realize the choice is ours." -"The predicament is never God's creation (you and me) The dilemma is simply the filters, the sin, the deviations from who were realy are. THat is hwat Jesus came to set us free from."
This book shows you how to reframe your thought processes to live a fuller, more joyful, complete life, in spite of those circumstances! I highly recommend The Metanoia Method.
Warning: If you are stuck in your ways and want to passively accept that life happens, do not read this book. However, if you have an open mind and are willing to consider the impact of the mind-body connection on health and wellness, this is the book for you.
This book does an amazing job of exploring both the principles of neuroscience and of scripture and how a transformative shift in our thinking can revolutionize life. Truthfully, I found myself resisting a few of the concepts of the book and will continue to wrestle with this in the coming months. What I could not deny is my penchant for negative thinking and that this has thus far not produced a life to the full.
I had previously read their book Mind Change and had seen a change in my mental health by applying many of the principles. I had thought this book would be more of the same with some scripture references. I was wrong. It was a completely new book. True the main points are the same but the way they fleshed out scripture in support of their method was innovative and engaging.
My word for this new year is Thrive. I am excited to get to work on embracing God’s goodness and really create the future I believe he wants me to have!

A Simplified Version of the Demartini Method for Healing
The mind-body connection is often seen as the domain of New Age philosophy.
But in ‘The Metanoia Method,’ the McKeans explore the biblical principles behind the mind-body-heart-spirit connection, the Law of Attraction, and the Demartini Method.
It will require an open-mind from Christians to accept some of these ideas, but for others, these ideas will sit more comfortably. As a student of Dr Demartini, I found the biblical connection new information, but as for the application, it was a call to apply the Demartini Method consistently.
I spotted a couple of places where the science is inaccurate/disproven, but keeping in mind that the McKeans are laypeople, this is forgiveable. The two points that are outdated is 1) that we tend to be Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic learners (sciences shows we all learn using all our senses), 2) it takes 21 days to make a permanent change (science shows it ranges from about 3 days to almost a year, 21 is just the average).
All-round though this is a good book which will be eye-opening for many Christians. Read it, applied it, and see that God still heals today.
The authors, Heather and Kent McKean just saved each reader of their book the thousands of hours of time and the tens of thousands, if not the hundreds of thousands, of dollars it would take to find, read, understand, apply and then hopefully experience the life-changing information and tools they’ve otherwise packaged up here from the greatest minds throughout history who have also labored to help people renew their minds; the greatest of whom is Christ. And they did it all through their heart-warming stories, easy to understand science, and a simple to apply method of emotional, physical and spiritual transformation. Simply put, I like to call this book the Pinterest recipe for personal transformation and spiritual freedom.
Their Metanoia Method matches up proven brain-changing techniques for healing pain, addictions, trauma and illness with biblical truth and principles of God’s love for his amazing creation: Us!!! I’ve literally read it all, went to all the expensive doctors to find physical healing for my body, brain and heart, and got pretty much nowhere; actually even worse and also broke. This book lead me back to the real source of healing; our Creator. And praise HiM that I’ve healed in so many ways...and getting stronger and stronger every day. So stop chasing more and more gurus and modalities and come to Jesus to have peace, rest and healing. Thanks to Heather and Kent for reminding the world that healing from God is simple and real... and that dudes like Tony, Joe, Elkhart and Bruce are just borrowing info from the real teacher...Jesus. Peace and healing to all who open their hearts and minds...and then read and apply.

This book is where Bible Study meets Neuroscience meets Counseling, except you’re in the driver’s seat. You decide where you’re going and how you get there.
The book explored the original Hebrew and Greek texts and answered many biblical questions that I’ve wrestled with for years. “If the church is a place for love and restoration, why is everyone so sick and depressed? If there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, then why does it seem like the goal is to leave a sermon feeling guilty? If we are God’s creation, made in his image, then why do Christians seemed so fixated on their sin?”
This book is an invitation to choose how you want to live the rest of your life. It’s packed full of both the scientific and biblical explanations of: how our minds process information, the impact our thoughts have on our lives and our health, how we as Christians can be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and how we can change the things that no longer serve us.
I loved this book so much that after reading it, I bought an extra 6 copies to give to people that I thought would find it beneficial! There are some many parts of the book that I want to go back to, that I have highlighted them all in different colours, I noticed that another reviewer said that she felt as though she had highlighted the whole book!
This is one of my favourite quotes.... Hippocrates “It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.” Kent and Heather also provide links to all the latest research that backs up what they have found to be beneficial in putting together Mind Change or Metanoia Method. It’s an awesome read!
Ever got to the end of a great book and feel like the ending left you feeling flat? Definitely not “The Metanoia Method”, it ends by promising that this is not just the end, it is in fact the beginning..... “Welcome to the end…and the beginning.” (quote)
We live in a beautiful but chaotic world in which we often allow ourselves to be adversely affected both emotionally and spiritually by the people and events happening around us. This book has opened my eyes and helped me take power back from what/whom I have previously given it to; power over how I feel and how I respond. From looking through the lens of the Bible and brain science, Kent and Heather, have guided me to better understand the power of my mind and how freeing it can be when I choose to take responsibility for what I think, how I feel, and how I act. From this book, I have learned not to ignore past hurts but deal with them in a positive, helpful way! The information is practical and applicable for anyone in any stage in life. Living victoriously with joy is possible! The choice is ours!

Do not read this if you are not looking for something to stir you! Kent and Heather do a fabulous job summarizing key concepts of epigenetics, biology, subconscious memory formation and similar science while incorporating Biblical perspective into it all. They are vulnerable in their own sharing and call the reader to take long-ago memories and traumas and rewire your brain to clear any hindrances which can negatively impact health and life in general. It is not for the faint of heart and probes the reader to dive deep into their past, including sticky subjects like church culture/teachings. They round it out with specific practicals to help the reader get started with the Metanoia Method whenever they are ready. Well done!

Through the reading, I found myself challenged, engaged, inspired, angry, excited, fearful and most of all moved to change. The content challenged some of the ways that I viewed myself and that brought fear and anger. I was not sure that I really wanted to change my mindset about things because that meant letting go. But in reading and seeing the well-laid practicals, I was able to embrace what the authors were saying. Accepting the power that our thoughts have in us, brings freedom and the ability to let go of shame. They really do a great job in breaking it down and explaining how the mind, body, and Bible work together. I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who is looking to be transformed!

Powerful! Life changing! Mind shifting! Soul satisfying! “Even though the Metanoia Method is based on years of personal experience and research(scientific and Biblical), it’s a simple tool. Taking power back over the way your body and emotions respond is relatively easy. Overcoming the fears, doubts and victim conditioning is not. No matter your background, health limitations, diagnosis, or situation, you can learn to think differently.” This book has done just that, taught me how to think differently. The McKeans through personal and professional examples, scripture and scientific information, have given us all a road map to true, life giving change. I have already begun to listen to the messages my body sends me through the filter of the promises of God’s word for my health and healing.

It is hard to put into words the impact this book has had on me. It has given me hope, hope that I can be free from my dehabilitating migraines that have plagued me for 30 plus years; hope that I can lose the weight that I am really great at keeping on no matter what I try; and hope that I can have a better relationship with my mother, daughters, and most importantly, God. This book has helped me see that I have the power to change and become the person God really wants me to be, that I have been settling for less. Not only that, it walks you through the “How” , in addition to the “Why” with practicals you can actually do. Here is to becoming the victor instead of a victim of my past experiences!
I was very impressed with the depth that both authors, Heather and Kent McKean, went to in order to share their personal experiences and what lead them to want to evolve and help others to evolve. All of us our affected in one way or another from our upbringing, environment, experiences, etc., and they shape who and what we become. Some of it may not have been positive. Very few people grow up in a Utopian experience. But this book shows you how you can overcome adverse effects left by your experience, and move on to a fuller, more joyful, complete life, in spite of those circumstances! If you are open minded and seeking to evolve emotionally, I highly recommend The Metanoia Method.
I cannot say enough good things about how much this method has helped me to release the past. I never knew just how subjective the memory actually is. I think I truly believed that our memory was like a Rolodex full of facts to be accessed. I thank God that he has provided this way to walk back through my memories WITH me. For the first time in my adult life I have been able to access good memories from my childhood, which were previously unavailable to me. Releasing those memories that no longer serve me has been a life changer, and opened up so much room in my heart for love.
This book is amazing. It brings clarity and truth to overcome the false teachings and beliefs most people cling to. In the light of scripture and a relationship with God, this book takes the best methods and brings them together to help a person heal and live their best life. The science is well explained and the examples are relatable. Everyone could benefit from this information. I can’t wait to put it to use.
Although I have not yet finished this book it has already changed my life! This has been the exact connections with God and the mind I having been looking for for 5 year! I have been through so much therapy, including hypnotherapy, and nothing has changed me this much! I am in awe of this book and the massive leaps and changes it has enables me to do! I am definitely recommending this to every single person I am talking too!
This is an insightful and eye opening read. Not only helping you understand your health and life better but to examine the scriptures more thoroughly. This is a book you will return to time and again and find a different treasure in each chapter. Bravo on a phenomenal bible study.

I just finished this book. I’ve been through lots of counseling and ongoing addiction recovery. Some of the concepts presented are not new, however, some are and the methodology of application is wonderful!
This book is empowering. Equipping. Generous and invaluable. I wish everyone I know would read this book and do this work. I have already told countless people to read it. Thank you Heather and Kent!
Chapter 14 has some wholesome journal prompts. Ch.15 GPS, gratitude positive affirmations smiles is a journaling prompt. Mind Change YT channel for pattern interrupts
I loved this book by Kent and Heather McKean! There are so many nuggets of wisdom in this book. If you want to be transformed, this is a must read! I loved research and science behind the our thoughts as well as learning that there is a direct correlation between our memories and overall well-being. I took many pages of notes and look forward to re-reading this book many times over! Thank you for putting this information out and helping us transform!
If you have been hearing that little voice inside of your head or feeling the little tug on your heart, saying that It’s time to make some changes in your life, then this is “THE” book that you need to get your hands on, without a doubt! Captivating and motivational from the beginning to the end, with incredible insights into the mind/body connection from Scripture as well as Science. I absolutely love how Kent and Heather share so vulnerably throughout the book drawing the reader in, I felt like so many of the examples resonated and related directly to me! How incredible to really begin to realise how God has always been at the forefront of Science and Neuroscience. What wonderful insight into how the Mind works and how “God designed our bodies to be messengers of the Mind”... the choice is ours whether we choose to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Realising how Scripture, the Mind and the Body align is truly awesome and has given me a new found hope, that I can truly change and move past all that has hindering my growth... after all God has instilled in me the “Power to grow” and be the person he created for me to be. You too can learn these life changing concepts, all you need to do is get your hands on this book! . Are you desperately wanting to change and grow?... Go ahead I dare you!
