I am the Great Indian Righter and I am pleased to inform you that I am another entrant contributing to the plethora of useful and profound fiction that is being churned by so many talented Indian writers who have taken the bowels out of the vowels.
Now that everyone seems to have pandered to this molestation of the language, I take delight in telling you that my book titled, "I HAD TOO MANY LOVE STORIES: NOW I AM DECLARED MENTAL IN 2 STATES" is already a self-proclaimed internationally national best seller.
With every Tom’s Dick Hurriedly writing a book, I too was seized with inspiration to share the story of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my hurt for reading intense story written using all queen’s language stored in my cerebrum rectum. Regards The Great Indian Righter
Saurbh Katyal is the author of 4 books including the popular hard-boiled thriller series featuring the private detective Vishal Bajaj. His second novel from the detective series titled The Invisible Woman was made into a web series by Saregama titled 'Hunter' starring Suniel Shetty & Esha Deol.
Besides writing crime fiction, Saurbh has also authored a parody novel and a non-fiction book on esoteric tales from Hindu scriptures.
Well, well to begin with, the book has a loud and clear disclaimer that it is purely a work of fiction. So, I would want to trust the disclaimer and stick to it. You are free to trust your own judgment. This book is a hilarious take on the recent wave of “bestselling authors.” I assure you, there might be times you are just holding your stomach, as you might be laughing out loud. The book begins with a ghost narrating a story, which has two characters who are writers. One is Churan Bhogal and the other is Robin Singh.
The writer hilariously traces these engineering and MBA graduates journeys as writers, who has not one clue about writing, yet they become India’s most loved best selling writers. They write on the most common themes with hinglish being thrown all around, and not to forget sex that makes it so appealing. Yet, the readers go gaga over them. The publishing industry fights to sign them up and they tout themselves as the “Voice of youth.”
Not only this the writer comes up with the very famous 5k formulae, which is a sure shot way to become a best seller. It begins with the writer buying his own books and buying spaces in book shops that will keep your book in the front shelves.
Churan Bhogal holds it against his critics and the so called “Elite English writers” and plans to completely wipe them off the market and forms a club of writers. The book comically narrates his journey from being a MBA student where he falls in love with a Bengali girl and writes about it. Then in his next book, he writes about the stories of two states, where he stereotypes the two communities in every possible way, which of course does not go down too well with his in-laws. One day he loses his inspiration to write that is when the writer brings in hilarious ways how Churan Bhogal finally finds inspiration to another best seller that gets him invited to another literary festival. He also mentors his friend Robin Singh, who also “had a love story” to write. Robin gets dumped by his girl friend whom he met on a matrimonial site. Yet this story that almost has nothing in its content becomes a best seller and Robin Singh becomes a rage.
The writer has done a very good job, while you read, it feels like a comedy, but once you keep it down it poses questions on books we read, on stars we create and the circus we all love.
This book is a comment on the times we live in. Writers who were supposed to shape a generation’s new thoughts are giving us repeated below standard writings all the time. Yet we create stars and worship them, because they sell. There is madness that is going on, which no one knows where it will ever stop. Let us not forget while reading this book, it’s us who created the Churan Bhogals and the Robin Singhs. The final laugh is on us. That is what the book is all about. A dark song humorously sang, that tells us that we are all living in a fool’s paradise.
A must read.
Book: The Great Indian Writer (Kindle Edition) Author : Babloo Wannaby Publisher : Amazon Genre : Fiction Ratings : 4/5 Price : Rs. 149
I have never read any parody book so when the author approached me read and review this book I was kind of excited. I would like to thanks the author for giving me a chance to read and review his work. So let’s peek what lies into the book.
Plot Summary:
The book starts with a prologue where a lover of Hinglish book (author) meets a ghost of a writer (the great Indian righter) who makes him write a parody book on the recent bestseller Hinglish books. The author has made it clear that it is a work of fiction.
This book narrates a story of Churan Bhogal, the bestselling author of India struggling to get over the writer’s block. He has written everything which his mind has occupied and now he is struggling to get an inspiration.
The other character in the book is Robin Singh, a man whose heart has broken up umpteen numbers of times. He wants to write a book on his love story and majorly influenced by the author Erich Sehgal, nope Erich Segal. He accepts Churan Bhogal as a mentor and now on the way to becoming a bestselling author like him.
The story then hilariously moves to flashback narrating how an IIT and MBA graduate Churan Bhogal becomes a Bestseller author. In each book, he serves just some mindless story spicing up with some sex scene and these books of him are now counted as a bestselling book. Let’s forget about the grammar and Basic English. These types of books are mostly read by the youth, the future of the country. His wicked marketing tactics have owned almost every self of Indian bookstores.
Churan, who is now getting criticized by the elitist group of writer wanted to make a group of authors just like him. His thought is to wipe good literary books from the Indian market.
Churan and Robin both are invited in the literary fest and have to debate with the literary writer Anant Sinha and what happens next is something interesting to read!
Writing style:
This language of this book is extremely easy and you can finish this book in just some hours. The story line and the narration are seamless making you finish this book in pace.
My perception:
This book is superb! The author has creatively written the prologue and I was very much impressed with this. The author has satirically yet critically nailed the point of the rise of Hinglish books. This book is a tight slap to all the people who makes these kinds of writers a bestseller. These writers get a large sum of money from the publisher; enjoy lavish parties while the great writer struggles to find a publisher. Though they write craps but in the name of masses they earn a great respect and the person who is making them is us. This book serves a serious issue with an amazing hint of satire.
Since last half decade or so, the publishing and book market has totally changed for good or bad that I do not know but it has changed. Earlier, when you would go through the Bestseller Lists, you used to find the books which were considered to be full of high literary value. Nowadays, if you will check the Bestseller list, you will only find the rom-com, college campus stories or mass fiction. This has frustrated many writers and readers who loved the classic books and literature stuff. Right from Chetan Bhagat to Durjoy Datta to Ravinder Singh are daily abused by this section of literati. There are many satirical articles and posts on these writers. But now, a book named “The Great Indian Righter” is released by Babloo Wanaby which is a parody on these writers and let me tell you, it’s extremely funny.
Not every time a book in the humor or parody or satirical section that makes me laugh and giggle but this book has many such moments. As I have been reading and reviewing these pulp fictions from last 5-6 years, it was very easy for me to relate with all the stuffs Babloo was talking about. His character, Churan Bhogal, is amazingly personified. I really liked relating him to the Bestselling author of India though the author have put the disclaimer that everything is fiction and not to relate it with anything real. Haha! Similarly, another character, Robin Singh, who takes inspiration from Churan Bhogal, and writes a pathetic tragic romantic novel is a wonderful character and I, even, related him with an author who have written the similar tale and went on writing many other bestsellers.
I personally liked the scene when two professionals from publication houses meet and talk about these two writers. Similarly, the sex scene between a character and his partner while the sex talk between the two main protagonist is so silly, vulgar yet funny that I died laughing. The conversation with in-laws of Churan because of the book that he had written on his marriage life is another delighting take on how the personal life of these writers get affected by writing nonsensical stuff. Even the climax is so beautifully handled that it shows the debutante writer, Babloo Wanaby is not here as a One Book Wonder but has talent of writing many more books in this genre. This genre really needs good writers in India and I can claim that Babloo is surely a good addition to the list. I rate this book as 4.5* out of 5.
The Book starts with the story Churan Bhogal, who is a best-selling author but he is out of plot this time because he has written everything that happened in life. Then he meets Robin Singh, heartbroken writer, who wish to write on romance and he is greatly influenced by Eric. Then the story moves on to the life of both the writers, how Robin Singh met the love of his life but then ended up with his Shoni; how Churan Bhogal, who never wanted to marry his girlfriend ended up with her. In the end, both of them are invited in the literary fest and have to debate with Anant Sinha. Read the kindle edition, to know more about this Hinglish book.
Book Cover- Humor starts with the cover of the book itself. It has one of the funniest covers. And totally define plot and title of the book.
Title- Title also justifies the story. And the Great Indian Righter is a ghost of a writer, who forced the author to write the story.
Narration, Editing, and Language- You won't find any grammatical errors in the book, plus the language is easy to understand. And also the narration is done in the first person, which is one of the positive points of the book.
Story- Story starts with the prologue, where the Great Indian Righter forces the author to write a story that he will be narrating. Humor starts from the very first line of the book and till the end, it is full of humor. It doesn't disappoint at all. A must read book I would say.
Story in a nutshell: The Great Indian Righter feels that Indian Literature is heading nowhere. With writers like Churan Bhogal and Robin Singh have turned Indian literature into a mess. The Great Indian Righter wishes to put forth his point of view. Review: The Great Indian Righter - the title seems as interesting as the blurb. You'll begin to wonder why the book title has 'Righter' and not 'Writer'. The prologue of the book creates an interest in the minds of the readers and you'll certainly be wanting to read more. Smile will be glued onto your face during the entire reading session. You'll laugh hard at some places while giggle at a few. The author has done a really commendable job. He has done justice with all the characters of the book. The narration is done exceptionally well with sarcasm and witty dialogues throughout. You'll enjoy this book as much as any comedy show. It's a must read. I rate: Cover: 3/5 Characters: 4/5 Story: 5/5 I rate 'The Great Indian Righter' with 5/5 stars.
A parody take with a key character called churan bhogal , based on Chetan Bhagat The book is entertaining to begin with and does keep your interest till the end. The theme is around finding inspirations and handling writer's block . It is a light and humorous read. I have not read parody takes till now and found this a good start.
