First, this is not a horror story, it is a thriller. The story is about Saji and Sujatha, the central characters. Saji is the landlord's son, and Sujatha is the daughter of a labourer working for the same landlord. The tale depicts caste inequality as well as Kerala's way of life. The novel gives us a hazy impression of Kerala and its splendour. Sujatha and Saji's love and friendship are also depicted in the book. When she vanished one day, all eyes were on Shaji. Something strange occurred.

From the beginning, the novel has a stronghold on the reader. We sit up a little straighter as the story progresses. But then it gets a little too stretched. The concept of the story is good but the climax could have been worked upon. I felt the ending to be abrupt and incomplete. I was expecting more from the book. Overall, a decent read.

You might like to wander through a few artistic journals — they’re full of sparks and surprises.

Book Name- The Ghost
Author- M.K. Devidasan
.

- TW: Murder, rape, pornography.

- Set in the backdrop of a village, this book revolves around Shaji, Subhash, Shine and Subhash's sister Sujata, who belong from different "classes" of the society.

- You might think that it's a horror book from the cover, but it's not like that. There are some "ghostly" elements though, in the later part of the book but the main theme revolves around- social ghosts like casteism, racism, etc.

- But while the story progresses ahead focussing on friendship, love, and hardships faced by the people of lower "class" in the village, an unforeseen situation takes place. Sujata goes missing while returning home from a temple... What happens next? For that, you need to read the book and see the mystery uncover.

- The writing style is a bit "not-so-beginner-friendly" and some of the sentences could be proofread.

- The village scenario was well portrayed and various social issues were well highlighted in this book.

The Ghost is a story set in a village that highlights social issues like casteism, racism and trafficking. The story tests the love of Shaji and Sujatha and the friendship of Shaji, Shine and Subhash.

Sujatha is a beautiful lower-caste Hindu girl who aspires to be an engineer. Her family is supportive of her dreams, but how will they afford the capitation of private college? Subhash is her elder brother and is looking for a job in the government sector.

Shine is the only son of Krishnan and aspires to marry Sujatha. Shine believes they should follow what their parents have vowed for them. He is worried that if Sujatha leaves for higher studies, she won't accept him. But the result of this jealousy as conveyed, in the story, wasn't expected.

Shaji is the only son of the richest landlord of the village, and despite being a Muslim, he accepts sandalwood paste on his forehead. He is worried about rumours of his relationship with Sujatha.

The plot comprises conspiracy and betrayal. It is set in a village, and a few viewpoints are carved concerning that. Even the intimate scenes are influenced by that. The story is an attempt at a great thriller and suspense, and if more time was spent on grooming the climax, it would have served its purpose. The plot is intriguing in the beginning, and the story is fast-paced, and you want to know more. It seems like a true story, and as soon as you reach the climax, you wait for the title to be justified literally, but with a few pages left, it becomes obvious, and you wish for the betterment of the plot.

The writing style isn't what you expect from a writer in their debut book. The significance of the title to the storyline is perplexing. Though the social issues might be considered as the ghost figuratively, the actual ghost appeared too late in the story, and its appearance was quite expected at that moment. Overall, the beginning was captivating, but the climax was unfathomable.

YOU. ARE. THE. MYSTERY. Oh my God. I got the chills so many times in the end of this book. It completely blew my mind. It managed to surpass my high expectations AND be nothing at all like I expected. If I sound stunningly inarticulate at times in this review, I can't help it. My mind is completely fried.
It's a story of a village in Kerala and there people. It goes around friendship of two no matter which caste they belong to. This novel have a glimpse of typical low earning family how they pays off education fees. While reading this novel one can have real essence of Kerala and can feel characters in real around them, like everything is happening around.
Aaaahhhhh and the twist. Just go through it. Oh I am so excited while writing this review. I literally enjoyed reading after a long.
MUST RECOMMEND...

"No one can predict what you would be tomorrow. There is no limit to your growth."

The book begins with a village scene- frilled paddy fields, birds chirping, aroma, bells of bhagvathi temple.

Shaji, a muslim, the son of the richest landlord of the village. He works in Infosys, banglore.
Sujatha, a hindu, daughter of the labourer who works for Shaji's father. She aspires to be an engineer. She has a brother whose name is Subash.

(Important mention- group of 3 friends- Subash, Shine and Shaji.)

Sujatha believed that if she will visit temple everyday and pray everything good will happen in her life, so she does it, without fail.

One day when she was returning from the temple, she went missing.
Shaji became the suspect. He was badly beaten by the police and got hospitalized by the torture.
Something VERY UNEXPECTED happened at the end.

TW- pornography, torture, death, rape, caste and religion differences.

My views:
At first I was thinking why is the tittle on this one, "The Ghost", it just wasn't making sense but as this book came to an end OMG it all made sense. Even though the title is horror the book isn't.
It has so many grammatical and sentence formation errors but this is such a great read. It was such a difficulty to read this as it begun but AS IT STARTED TO END URGHH IT WAS SO HARD TO PUT IT DOWN. It has long chapters and at many parts too much is given which isn't required. The story is incomplete. It wasn't meant to end where it ended. It requires more work for sure. I wasn't expecting it to be this good.

"There is a ghost here. A lonely spirit. The ghost of everything that could’ve been and never was."

Indeed, whether ghosts are existent in reality or whether they are simply figments of one’s imagination has been a debatable issue for ages now. Eyewitnesses swear they have seen spirits and also experienced them do the unthinkable. Generally, if we were to go by pure historical facts and proven theories, spirits or ghosts are something that just does not appear out of anywhere one fine day. They come back without moving on to the next dimension simply because they are possibly distressed in some manner because of something. There could be some kind of an incomplete karmic balance or unfulfilled task or wish of their life owing to which they find it difficult to move on to the next.

The Ghost by M K Devidasan is horror fiction. Written in the usual thrills and chills kind of format, the story revolves around Shaji, Sujatha and Raju and their tangled lives. Trouble ensues when Sujatha goes missing. The entire village gets abuzz with rumours blaming Shaji for having killed and disposed of her body. On his visit to town to prove his innocence, Shaji gets arrested by the police and tortured to the point of hospitalization. This is where the mystery and horror starts. Read the book to find out the complete story and understand the thrills and also find out the bone-chilling suspense in the story.

Illustrating the village life of the people of Kerela, this one also highlights the Hindu Muslim Caste disparities that have been prevalent for ages. The Author has taken a good effort to also shed the light on the social stigma that surrounds our society not only with regards to the caste systems prevalent but also the class system where the upper and the middle class are the only ones who love and live as per their discretion whereas those who form the lower class are the ones who bear the brunt of all inequality and injustice. Alongside, he has woven the element of horror too, very well in the story, not only maintaining the thrill throughout but also ensuring you remain in the mystery and suspense as regards the outcome of it all till the very end.

Though, I would personally like to point out here that a finer, more crisper editing would have done wonders and taken this book ahead of a very long way into becoming an even more enthralling read. Albeit the basic plot core idea is good and the writer has also tried to do justice to his point of view with regards to not only the handling of the narration but also the execution of the story’s key facets. The village picturesque scene depictions shall surely transport you to a sweet Kerela, full of coconut trees and mesmerizing scenery. The language used could have been done with a bit of fine editing as well as the correct usage of Grammar could have gone a very long way into establishing the strength and efficacy of the plot even better, I feel. Else, the feel, essence as well as core idea is good and also the characterizations are well done. The suspense build throughout is a strong point of the book.

Overall, a good attempt and I am sure the Writer, with a fine bit of nudge in the right direction with the correct and crisp editing, will do more justice to his writing.

Looking forward to more writing attempts by Him.

The Ghost is one of those books that starts with a simple act of kindness and quickly spirals into something much darker. Shaji’s decision to help Sujatha pulls him into a storm of secrets, guilt, and temptation. What I found most haunting was how it reveals the price women often pay for men’s choices. It’s part thriller, part social commentary, and totally gripping. Every chapter had me wondering what’s next—and who’s really to blame. If you like mysteries that actually say something, you’ll find this one powerful and unforgettable.

The author done a great attempt in detailing the characters. This story revolves around the central character Sujatha, Sujatha was a poor lower-class Hindu girl, She was studying engineering in Bangalore but due to her economical background, she can't even pay her fee. Shaji an IT professional and son of a wealthy Muslim landlord helped her to pay the college admission fees. The story was continued with a nice love story of Shaji and Sujatha. The author succeeded in showing the economical conditions of lower-middle-class families in India. The author also explained each and every minute detail like temple rituals and why the grownup didn't enter a temple.
this book details how society treats cast and religion. one-day Sujatha went missing, police arrested shaji as a suspect and torched him. To know the real murderer and how he was caught must read the book. the suspense was carried till the end, I liked the book.

This book is about Saji, an IT expert and also the son of the landlord, and also about Sujatha. She is the daughter of Kesavan, who works for Rahman, the landlord. The novel illustrates a typical Indian below-average family who strives to pay off their daughter’s education. The book shows about the coconut tree and the atmosphere you receive from Kerala with paddy fields and a lot more. The story takes off by telling us about the love of Saji and Sujatha in the temple. Here, the story gives us a view of the current society of Kerala, where Muslims and Hindus prevail. Here arouses the dilemma of being born in the Hindu and Muslim caste. From the book, we can learn about society and how the people treat the caste and the society we live in.
One day, Sujatha went missing, and they never found out how she went missing. They all denounced Saji, but he was innocuous and tortured by the police. His friend Raju, a pornographer, had an eye on Sujatha. She was a beautiful girl and a kindhearted lady who strives to become an Engineer. There were gossips about Saji killing Sujatha. they tortured him until the point of his death. But something happened. He was saved. The mysterious thing saved him. For the mystery to unveil, please read the book and enjoy this tremendous mysterious thriller. I enjoyed the book and hope for more books from the Author.

Author done a fabulous job in pointing out the social stigma. This is the story of a poor lower cast girl named Sujatha, flavored with a feel good love story between Sujatha and Shaji. Shaji belongs to Muslim community and he was a IT professional and his father was landlord. The elements touched during explaining hindu muslim love story was impressive. Author rightly used aesthetics of village to convey the story.
The way ghost saves Shaji was justifying. This story has lot of mysteries and twist. To enjoy this fantastic thriller story must read the book. Available in Amazon.

The story is set up in a small village where caste, religion and work system was far more dominating than love, friendship and empathy.

Despite of all the odds a trio of friends” Shine, Santosh and Shaji” kept their friendly lively, spent time together to discuss their career aspirations and daily life drama. Shaji, only son of the village landlord, got placed in a good IT company in Bangalore.

Sujatha, Santosh’s sister, a radiant gal, immensely blessed with beauty and brain wanted to pursue her career as an engineer. The financial state of the family is poor yet she kept aspiring as she had her father’s support (Fathers are always king), everything was as per plan till he get ditched by his landlord and Sujhata’s dreams started shattering

Although Sujatha and Shaji were separated by caste, status and religion but they were united by compassion and love. The pair always helped and motivated each other to keep thriving for the best in their life.
Fighting all the odds in her career and with the help of Shaji, Sujatha gets enrolled in an engineering college of Bangalore. Life gets smooth.

-Love prospers in Bangalore…
-Sujatha gets attention of creepy men…
-Comes home for vaccation with Shaji and gets missing.

👉What happened between Sujhata and Shaji in Bangalore?
👉How Sujhata’s father was ditched by the landlord?
👉What happened to Sujhata?
👉How the culprit will be caught?
👉Will Sujhata get the justice?

These are few nail biting queries which is going to keep you hooked. You will keep on turning the pages to know more and more. As you proceed with each chapter, the characters gets more shades.

This story is set up in a remote village where the caste and class system was dominated. This story is not only a horror story but it also includes women dominance, rape, porn, caste system, class differences.
In this caste and class system, there was a trio of Saji who was the son of the richest man in the village and he was the highly educated among the trio( he was working as an engineer in a big IT firm in Bangalore), Shine and Subhash they belong to the lower class and the sons of labourers who used to work for Saji's father, this trio's bond was beyond the caste and class system of the village.
Besides the bond of friendship, there was a love story of Saji and Sujata (Subhash's sister), Sujata's childhood dream was to become an engineer and finally, she climbed the first step to become an engineer, she gets into one of the private colleges in Bangalore. Saji (Sujata's lover) help her to get into a private college by stealing from his father's locker. One of Saji's classmates by chance see them together in Bangalore and spread rumours about their love in the village, some people were against their love because of their caste and class differences.

Book in focus- The Ghost by @mkdevisasan

~Review~

Tw: rape, pornography, murder.

-The story is set in the backdrop of a village and revolves around Shaji, Shine, Shubhash and his sister Sujata.

-Shubhash, Shine and Shaji have been childhood friends, divided by caste and religion but united by love and friendship.
They were always there for each other whenever a need arose.

- Shaji was the most educated and the richest among the three friends. Unlike his father, Shaji possessed immense compassion and empathy for others.

-Shaji had always been deeply in love with Sujata, who is said to be extremely beautiful. Despite her family background and financial troubles, Sujata is seen to be an acedemically bright student having her own dreams.

-Sujata had many eyes prying upon her. One of them being Shaji's batchmate Raju.

One fine day, Sujata, while returning from the temple, meets Shaji and then goes missing..
💀 The story throws light on various societal norms and stigmas that exist. The real horrors in the society are not ghosts and spirits but casteism, rape, class difference etc.

The Ghost written by Author MK Devidasan isn’t a horror story. There is so much more to it. Author has raised many social issues like caste system, religious inequality, girl trafficking, rape, sexual harassment, etc. I was expecting it to be a horror story where a girl dies and returns to take revenge of her death. But no! I was wrong.
“One who returns not to seek revenge but to save her friend.”
Friendship of Shaji, Shine and Subhash regardless of differences in their castes, gives major friendship goals to the readers. Love story of Shaji and Sujatha, their care for each other, dreams, seperation, everything made me finish this nail biting thriller in just 2 sittings.
Cover of the book is designed thoughtfully and the ending of this book made the title suitable.
Also there are few things that can be improved and can make it an enthralling read-
• Chapters were really long!
• Unnecessary detailing was done at many places.
• Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes were there throughout the book.
• I found the language a little hard for irregular readers and beginners.

Keeping these critiques aside, I can say it was a nice read. 😊 Give it a try.

"The Ghost" is a taut, evocative mystery that pulses with emotional depth and social complexity. Shaji, an affluent young man burdened by privilege and secrecy, finds himself entangled in a dangerous liaison when he helps Sujatha, a Hindu girl, in a moment of need only for their relationship to spiral into a web of lust, guilt, and betrayal. Set against the backdrop of rural and urban India, the novel paints a haunting picture of how power, reputation, and suppressed desire can lead to devastating consequences. As Sujatha vanishes under murky circumstances, whispers of murder begin to circulate, drawing readers into a shadowy maze of suspicion and half-truths. The storytelling is brisk yet lyrical, unraveling the mystery with measured intensity. "The Ghost" is not just a suspenseful ride, It’s a dark reflection on human frailty.

In silence and scandal, sometimes the loudest truth is the one we fear to speak.

The ghost
First impression: Great story and very interesting with all thrill and twist elements.
About plot: This story is all about a villager lower cast and economically backward girl named Sujatha, she has a desire to study engineering in banglore but she can't afford it, at the same time shaji who was a Muslim and son of a landlord helped her financially to get college admission. By seeing the shaji kindness sujatha was in love with him.
Few days later sujatha was missing and police declare that she was murdered and suspect shaji and arrested him. Sujatha was became ghost and saved his love shaji. To know the how she saved shaji and who murdered her must read the book. This story includes lot of twist and suspense.

This book really messed with my head—in a good way. What starts as compassion slowly unravels into obsession, and before you know it, everyone’s hiding something. Shaji, Sujatha, and Raju form a very unsettling triangle, and the author does an amazing job showing how easily desire can twist someone’s judgment. The village setting adds to the tension—everyone knows everything, or thinks they do. And when the big reveal comes? Total shocker. This story gets under your skin and stays there. Creepy, clever, and impossible to put down.

This book’s got suspense, sure, but it’s also soaked in cultural nuance. The Ghost goes beyond the usual whodunit—it digs into what people expect from each other, what they hide, and how society treats anyone who doesn’t fit the mold. Shaji and Sujatha aren’t just characters; they’re people you recognize from real life. And Raju? He adds a seriously creepy edge. The rural setting feels so authentic, you can almost hear the whispers. It’s not just about what happens—it’s about why, and that’s what makes this story so gripping.

This book doesn’t hold back. It dives right into how desire and power can twist even the best intentions. Shaji’s help turns into something a lot murkier, and Sujatha’s decision to “repay” him is just heartbreaking. Then you’ve got Raju, who’s basically a walking red flag. The moment Sujatha disappears, the whole story shifts into a storm of accusations and dread. The writing’s sharp, and the atmosphere is heavy. The Ghost doesn’t offer clean endings—but it delivers a haunting, honest take on how people hurt each other, sometimes without even realizing it.

The Ghost hit hard is how true-to-life the village setting feels. Everyone knows everyone, and gossip spreads like wildfire. When Sujatha vanishes, the fingers point fast—and hard—at Shaji. The whole setup with Raju’s sleazy business just adds fuel to the fire. It’s not just a mystery—it’s a story about how quickly a person’s life can be ruined by what people think happened. The suspense keeps you guessing, but it’s the raw social reality that stays with you. This one stings because it’s just so believable.

The Ghost pulls you into a tangled mess of lust, trust, and betrayal. Shaji means well at first—helping Sujatha with college fees—but that single act unravels into something dark and dangerous. What really hits you is how quickly things spiral just because of gossip and assumptions. The backdrop of religion and class tension adds extra weight, and the way the village turns on Shaji feels disturbingly real. The story isn’t just about where Sujatha went—it’s about how quickly a reputation can be shredded. This isn’t just a thriller; it’s a deep look at human behavior and consequences.

What starts out looking like a kind gesture ends up turning into something way more sinister. Shaji might think he’s helping Sujatha, but things get blurry fast. One bad decision leads to another, and suddenly, he’s in the middle of a nightmare. The tension between religion and class only makes things worse. You start to wonder-what’s true, and what’s just what people want to believe? That’s where The Ghost really gets you. It’s a suspense story, but it’s also about how quickly we judge-and how dangerous that can be.

This book is heavy—not just because of what happens, but because of what doesn’t get said. Sujatha vanishes, and suddenly, Shaji is a suspect without anyone needing proof. The silence in the story speaks louder than words, and it really hits you how easily someone can be destroyed by rumors. Raju’s always there in the background, making everything worse. And through it all, Shaji just sinks deeper into guilt and fear. It’s not about catching a killer—it’s about what happens when society decides you’re guilty without ever listening.

There’s something about The Ghost that makes it feel both deeply personal and socially sharp. On one hand, it’s a classic mystery—what happened to Sujatha? On the other, it’s about what happens when cultural expectations, suppressed emotions, and raw desire collide. Shaji isn’t exactly a hero, and that’s what makes him so compelling. Every twist made me question what I thought I knew. It’s not a simple story, and that’s what I loved most. This one kept me flipping pages till the very end.

Honestly, I didn’t expect The Ghost to go this deep. Sure, it’s got the suspense and the mystery—but it also digs into things like class, gender, and how tightly-knit communities react when something scandalous happens. Sujatha’s disappearance is just the beginning. Shaji’s guilt feels almost too real, and Raju’s lurking presence made me uncomfortable in all the right ways. It’s the kind of book that makes you think even while you’re biting your nails. So smart, so dark, and so well done.

This story really shows how complicated “good intentions” can get. Shaji thinks he’s doing something noble, but things unravel fast, and suddenly, everyone’s got a theory—and a secret. I loved how the author used the village as a pressure cooker, where no one gets away with anything. The tension builds slowly and then hits you like a truck. And just when you think you’ve figured it out—bam, twist. I couldn’t stop reading, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it afterward.

This one hits hard. It’s not just a whodunit—it’s a why-did-they-do-it. Shaji’s not evil, but his decisions definitely mess things up. Sujatha’s caught in the middle, and Raju just gives the whole thing a dark edge. What really got me was how power dynamics played out—between men and women, between different social classes. The suspense is there, but so is the emotional weight. I finished it feeling a little haunted, and very impressed.

You know those books that just start with tension and never let go? The Ghost is exactly that. Right from the start, I was hooked by Shaji’s complicated mix of kindness and desire. Sujatha barely says much, but her silence is so loud. And Raju? Just gives you the creeps. What really stood out was how the village felt alive, like a character of its own. Everything felt real and high-stakes. If you’re into psychological thrillers with depth, this one’s a ride you won’t forget.
