Grace Shaw is on the run from her crazy ex-boyfriend who refuses to believe their relationship is over. He's a cop and is willing to use police resources to track her down. So Grace comes up with a plan and tricks his fellow brothers in blue into thinking crying wolf a couple of times when he's reported her missing. Little does she know she'll go running into the arms of a real wolf when she finally makes her escape for real.

She just wants to be left alone, but then she meets Hunter Tate - the alpha of the Black River Pack. Grace tries to hold Hunter at arm's length, but there's just no reasoning with an alpha male werewolf who insists she's his mate.

I absolutely adore reading - always have and always will. My friends growing up used to tease me when I would trail after them, trying to read and walk at the same time. If I have downtime, odds are you will find me reading or writing.

I am the mother of two wonderful sons who have inspired me to chase my dream of being an author. I want them to learn from me that you can live your dream as long as you are willing to work for it.

When I told my mom that my new year's resolution was to self-publish a book in 2013, she pretty much told me "About time!"

Crying Wolf is my first Rochelle Paige book, but it won't be my last! I enjoyed this shifter book lots and I'll for sure be checking out the other novellas in this series!

Grace is starting over in a new town. After escaping an abusive boyfriend, she needs a fresh start. She's smart, strong and resourceful, and that's the only reason she got away. She ends up in a small town applying to be a waitress at a bar. Little does she know that the owner of the bar could tell she was meant to be his from the moment he laid eyes on her.
"Once I've had you, there will be no looking back. No getting away from me because I will never let you go.”

Hunter is the alpha of his pack. He's protective of his pack and possessive of Grace from the moment he lays eyes on her. Yes this was short so there was some element of insta-love. I didn't care. I still enjoyed the heck out of it. With one of the MC's being a shifter, their instincts are different as is their chemistry and bonding so it's not as unbelievable as other insta-love scenarios.

If you're looking for a short, hot, fast paced novella, pick this one up! I wish it were longer but I'm looking forward to getting more of these characters in the second novella!
“You've helped piece me back together."
"It's only fair since I've been waiting for you to make me whole.”

Title:Crying Wolf
Series:Black River Pack
Author:Rochelle Paige
Release date: December 8, 2014
Rating: stars
Cliffhanger:No
HEA:

It's been quite a while since I've read a good shifter book and when I saw this new offering from Rochelle Paige, I jumped to check it out. In some cases, I'm not really sure what I'm in the mood for, but this is not one of them. I knew I wanted to read something with a domineering-she's mine-I want to bite her alpha wolf hero. And you most definitely get that in Crying Wolf.

Regretfully, I didn't notice beforehand that this is in fact a novella. Personally, I like to avoid them because stories of this length don't have time to mature and draw me into the story as much as I'd like. Basically, they just tend to feel rushed for me, and this was my reaction here as well, but that's just my personal preference. Most people are fine with novellas, it's just hard for me to rate them compared to full length novels.

Grace is fleeing an abusive relationship with her cop boyfriend. Escaping a physically abusive man who has the police force backing him up is an enormous task. Her plan is to use that force against him. To make him seem as if he's "crying wolf" by having him report her missing twice and then returning twice to discredit him. I thought this was quite brilliant and I admired her strength and determination in her resolution to escape. After leaving, she wanders and randomly ends up in a town called Wolf's Point and more specifically, a bar named The Den. Are you seeing a theme here? She pretty much hits the jackpot because on her first day working at the bar, she comes face to face with the pack Alpha named Hunter and he has that immediate, wolf-mate reaction.

She looked nothing like our she-wolves, who were tall, lithe and athletic. But even though she was small, she had curves that were just begging to be touched.
Licked.
Sucked.
Bitten.

He's pretty much everything you would expect from an Alpha wolf: dominating, strong, dark, sexy and rugged, and protective and jealous. And yeah, he claimed her pretty much from first scent, but hey, it's a wolf here. What do you want from him? This is the only insta-love-ish reaction I can handle simply because it's paranormal wolfy love. It's just fun escapism and I enjoy it from time to time.

Hunter was pretty understanding of her human need to get to know him before he officially mated her, all things considered. Reigning in his natural instincts was difficult for him but at the same time entertaining for me. Grace struggled with being okay with her attraction to him so fast after her abusive relationship. Especially since a lot of his controlling personality traits mirrored her ex, but he could see his protectiveness underneath it whereas before, he just wanted to belittle her and alienate her from her independence. He's also nurturing and supportive and he helped her to heal from the betrayal and pain of her past.

Although I wished that it was longer so that their relationship didn't go from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye, I enjoyed it for the short story for what it was and it delivered just what I was looking for so I don't have a whole lot to complain about. Rochelle Paige writes great alpha heroes, and her new wolf series gives us more of that as she branches out in the paranormal genre. Overall, it was a quick, light and fun read with her usual steamy scenes. So if that's what you're looking for, this book could be the one for you.

**Oh, and on a side note, the author cleverly slipped in a Blythe College mention (the school from her other series). I couldn't help but love seeing that name drop seeing as I've read and enjoyed a couple of books in that series. Good one, Rochelle.

Cute story.. but a little too short for what was going on. I knew it was a novella going in but still.. I felt a little deprived when what Grace was running from was handled too quickly and only lasted a couple of pages.. also Grace had no idea Hunter was a wolf shifter or even that wolf shifters existed and when she found out.. it only took like 2 pages for her to accept it. And she explained her ability to accept it so quickly due to her having read so many paranormal romances.. so.. it was a quick read.. it was cute.. but should have been longer with a little more drama.

I almost laughed at how absurd this book was. There are two men in it who are creepy stalkers and want to control every aspect of the MCs life. While the one is portrayed as the crazy ex who she wants to get away from as far as possible, the other one is the perfect dream guy. I'm sorry, but what the hell??
Also, half of the book consists of horrible, cringeworthy sex scenes...

A really quick read. The story was somewhat average for a shifter romance. The characters felt underdeveloped. I wish the epilogue was longer:(

Grace Shaw had been on the run from her abusive ex boyfriend. The law couldn't help save her from him because he was a cop himself and used his resources to track her down. When Grace feels like she's close to being found she packs up and heads somewhere new to stay one step ahead of her ex.

Grace manages to stumble into a werewolf owned bar one day looking for a job in a new place. She has no idea of that world and the owner and alpha of the Black River Pack, Hunter Tate, isn't happy to have a human around until he finds that Grace is meant to be his mate and now he'll do anything to protect her.

Crying Wolf was an OK fast paced short erotic paranormal romance read. Everything seems to happen pretty quickly in the book since it's a shorter read but there was enough depth mixed in between the sexier moments to actually give this one a decent plot to follow. Got a giggle out of Grace's easy acceptance to werewolves from her saying her reading paranormal romances eased her into belief.

Overall, not too bad a quick read. Fast paced but a good balance of plot with the sexier times.

re-read 3 1/2 stars, What Grace thought was love soon turned to abuse after she started to date Sam soon after her parents death. Knowing she had to escape him without his job as a police officer and friends getting in the way Grace made her plan then escaped. Traveling for months Grace finally landed and got a job at the Den only to run into Hunter a man she can't help but feel drawn to.

When Hunter scented Grace he knew she was his mate and he knew she was in trouble, being the alpha Hunter set out to keep her safe and claim her but the fear he see's in her eyes has made him take it slow. When the threat seems to finally have arrived Grace is terrified and shocked to find Hunter right beside her to help and give her a home. As the attraction grows Hunter finds it harder and harder to deny his wolf till he can't any longer. Just when it seems Grace may have it all her ex finally finds her with his own plan. Knowing he has to come clean Hunter knows his secret can't stay hidden any longer now he has to hope Grace won't deny him since she is the only option for him and his wolf.

This was a pretty good book it starts great and hooked me right from the beginning, the writing was great and flowed amazingly. I felt Graces fear and need to leave Sam and then when she met Hunter I believed their attraction and their chemistry. Unfortunately the ending was to nice and quick for me. I liked the ending but wish it had been more drawn out and flushed out. Hunter was very possessive which I loved and though Grace had been though a lot she was still a strong loving character. For this being a shorter book the author did a great job of introducing us to Hunter's brothers who will get their own books in the future. Overall this was a nice short quick read.

Once in awhile I enjoy reading a PNR book, but it is very rare that I do but OMG I absolutely love Crying Wolf by Rochelle Paige. I just read the prologue and was instantly hooked and was salivating for more when I was done with the book. Who knew a shape-shifter romance could be so hot and steamy? Toss in an alpha male hero who will have you growling in the bedroom then you got yourself one HOT PNR book!! Ms. Paige did an amazing job with Crying Wolf with a heroine that you wanted to hug and an alpha dominant hero that you would love to take a bite of.

#CW

Since Crying Wolf is a short story, I won’t go into much details of the story line since this book needs to be READ!!!! All I can say is this book had a hot alpha shape-shifter who knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that she was his. No if, and or buts about it Grace Shaw belonged to Hunter Tate. It was an instant connection and bond between them. They were drawn to each other like a moth to a flame or in this case, Hunter made sure to marked his territory. And Grace was his to protect and love. So if you are looking for one sexy hot and a book that will have you howling for Hunter Tate’s name then go read Crying Wolf. All I can say Rochelle Paige, hurry up with Book 2 because I can’t wait for Eliza and Spencer’s story.

While I enjoyed this, it lacked the build up and chase between Hunter and Grace that is often the best part of books for me.

Along with that everything was solved a bit too quickly for my liking, but seeing how short it is I suppose that was inevitable.

I remember skimming this some years back and I agreed it was one of the best wolf shifter romances then. Now, having attentively read it, I still hold the same opinion. The novella format was perfect because it allowed for great pacing, a swift plot, smooth exploration of the specific shifter lore imagined by RP, and great in-world rationalisation of the characters' actions. The romance was hot even if naturally insta and with little to no angst.

This story is definitely a worthy high benchmark in fated wolf shifter romance (non-rejected mates) - well above from most OTT and plot-wonky similar stories. I am jumping into the next in the series because I know the events of the two books are interlinked.

The plot is pretty much explained in the blurb and it doesn't really deviate or have any surprise twists or unexpected turns.

Grace is on the run from her crazy ex, who also happens to be a cop and after losing her parents, finds herself all alone and trying to lay low in a small town until she can figure out what is her next step.

Wolf Pointe is shifter territory. Specifically, home to the Black River Pack that is run by the Alpha, Hunter Tate. Hunter has also lost his parents but has a tight bond with his two younger brothers and of course, his wolf pack.

He sees Grace and instantly recognizes her as his fated mate that his grandmother predicted years ago. From page one, things get hot and heavy between them and there is a lot of hot chemistry and there is even some furious action towards the end that keeps things on point.

What I liked:
I love reading PNR/Shifter romance and the whole mates thing - I eat that up with a spoon! So, that said, I liked the idea of the special bond that connects the alpha to every member of his pack. That was an interesting twist to the werewolf legend. I also liked the claiming/marking of a mated pair and the whole ancient traditional ceremony (even if it was a bit too exhibitionist!)

Grace suffered a lot and still managed to stay strong and never became a weak crying MC. It might have had something to do with the fact that Hunter was such an amazing, protective and caring H. They both made a sweet couple and they had off the charts heat sparking between them.

Memorable Moments:
* Their first kiss - the chemistry between them was crazy good.
* * I also loved their wedding scene. It was sweet and left me feeling all warm and fuzzy :)

I love starting a book by Rochelle Paige. Why? Because I know I'm going to find a hero that goes after what he wants. Totally fell hard for Hunter the moment he showed up in the book. Him being the alpha of his pack rang true in everything he did. He made me swoon every time he said "Gracie-mine" and his loyalty and possessiveness was just off the charts hot and amazing.

I loved Grace too as she could have been a weak and scared little rabbit type heroine but she didn't fight her feelings as long as she could have.

I really loved how this series started and can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the pack.

Knowing already the blurb of book 2 and then now knowing how Spencer has so much time to make up for ..well I can't wait. This is going to be a difference having a hero that wasn't sure of himself or the woman in his life. That is going to be one different set up..how come his wolf didn't know? Really not used to that type of hero from Rochelle..hers just know and don't waver..but hoping she can redeem him. Very strange indeed but Rochelle is a magician and I just have a feeling something might just answer all of these questions.  All in all this is going to be a great series I can feel it !
Way to go Rochelle.

Really good!

I really enjoyed this simple, straightforward, wolf shifter romance. It was equal parts sweet and steamy. Hunter was so sweet to Grace and helped her get over her fear and saved her life from her abusive ex. The story was well-written and stayed true to the werewolf and shifter genre, without any crazy plot twists that make you say to yourself what the hell did I just read. It was a quick read and I am recommending it for those of you who like your shifter stories to stay true to the genre.

Crying Wolf was not a good read for me. For starters it was too short and poorly written. I didn't like the fact that the author chose a sensitive topic like domestic violence and glossed over it by almost immediately having the h with a new man. There is absolutely no character development and so much telling that I never felt any connection to the couple. I will not continue this series.

2.75 RATING- Too much telling, not enough doing. I ended up skimming towards the end. Based off this book, I don't plan to read more of the series, even though I can borrow for free. I wouldn't recommend this one.

Grace Shaw thought she had met the man of her dreams, after losing her parents. What she found was her worst nightmare. As her boyfriend's anger escalates with her, Grace devises a plan to get away from him. Who would believe her if she told the cops what was happening behind closed doors, after all he is a cop too. Running Grace finds herself looking for a job at The Den, a bar owned by Alpha Wolf Hunter Tate.

Hunter is pissed his brother said a human could work at the bar, the Den is a shifter bar and a human is a complication he doesn't need. His anger goes through the door when he catches Grace's sent and realizes she is his mate. Hunter sees that Grace is keeping secrets and knows he has to handle her with care. With Grace's ex still on the warpath and trying to hunt her down, Hunter needs to move faster than he planned and Grace is about to get a few surprises along the way.

I liked this one. Grace is a victim of bad luck when finding herself in the bad relationship desperate to get out of. When she meets Hunter, he commands the room but shows her a side he doesn't share with others. I would definitely pick up more from this author.

Ok, shifter romance. It’s a quick read with Hunter & Grace. Grace is escaping an abusive ex when she runs into Hunter who immediately recognizes her as his mate, but she’s human... so he needs to woo her a bit. The romance is sweet, and there isn’t much drama/obstacles in their way. The Ex situation is handled swiftly, and Grace accepts all things shifter pretty instantly. After the couple is a “couple” it turns into a cheesy McCheesefest, and they are OTT lovey-dovey.

Bottom Line- No bad for a freebie, but’s its pretty dull in the action department. There's really no pack stuff. It’s sweet, but not YA. There is a smidge throat-ripping, and lots of sex. **Safety- Neither are virgins, but there’s no cheating or OW drama. The domestic abuse isn't graphic; h is never seriously injured.

Review by Natasha Gentile

So I have to say that this is my first shifter book. That’s right people I’m a shifter virgin, and my cherry was just popped, and what better way than Ms. Rochelle Paige!

This book is about Grace Shaw, who is in an abusive relationship. She is trying her best to get out of this relationship, but with her boyfriend being a cop, the odds are stacked against her. That is until she uses the system to her advantage. For six months, she has moved from place to place to make sure that she doesn’t get too comfortable and lets her guard down, She pulls out a map and Wolf’s Point jumps out at her.

When she settles into town she hits up the local bar, seeking employment, little did she know she would be getting so much more than a job!!

And that’s when I met him-Hunter Tate.

He was different from Sam as night is from day. As light as Sam was, Hunter was dark. He was six and a half feet of pure sexiness wrapped in lean muscle with thick, almost black hair and eyes that reminded me of melted chocolate. The moment my eyes locked with his, I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. The only other time I’d felt anything close was when I had met Sam, but even that didn’t compare to the intensity of this moment. What I didn’t realize was that falling head over heels for Hunter would more than make up for all the bad that had come before him, because he wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have seriously got to get me a map to that place. I can get used to having this guy around.

She's nailed the job, much to Hunter's dismay, Hunter is not just any guy, he is the alpha of the Black River Pack. Grace tries her hardest to not give in, to fight the attraction, but what she doesn’t know is that he’s already made up his mind and is ready to claim her.

Hunter’s hand grabbed my hips and tightened for a moment when I started to move away from him. Hearing his deep sigh, I turned to see him with his head tilted back, his eyes clenched shut, and his hands fisted so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.

Nothing comes easy for this couple, not only is she human, but he is a wolf!! I never thought I would actually ever say this sentence, but that is not their only problem,! It seems the ex just doesn’t want to give up and chases her where ever she goes, it’s up to Hunter and his pack to make sure she stays safe!

While I enjoy reading several different genres, I have to admit that Paranormal Romance is my favorite and if it has an alpha shifter, chances are I'll devour it and love every second. And let me tell you... Rochelle Paige did not disappoint with Crying Wolf.

Grace is on the run from an abusive ex when she first meets Hunter. And of course, as soon as Hunter smells Grace he knows she's meant to be his. While a lot of people tend to complain about insta-love, it happens to be my favorite type of read which is probably why I love shifters so much. They know their mate the second they meet and do everything in their power to make them see that they belong together. Who wouldn't want that kind of love and devotion?!

Hunter is the best kind of alpha male. He's protective and possessive and just the right amount of dominant, but he also knows that Grace has been hurt so he doesn't push too hard too fast. He takes his time, gets to know her, and swoops in to save her when she's in trouble.

Grace is a great heroine too. She's not whiny like a lot of girls tend to be when they've been hurt. She's smart and can take care of herself, yet she allows Hunter to take care of her too. She's so accepting of Hunter and his wolf that you can't help but love her.

My only complaint would be that Crying Wolf is just too short. I want more Hunter and Grace, but luckily there are more books in the series so I'm sure we'll see more of them in the future.

I was already a huge fan of Rochelle Paige, but now I definitely can't wait to read more!
