Rob Scotton is the bestselling author and illustrator of "Russell the Sheep," and "Russell and the Lost Treasure." His latest book, "Splat the Cat" is the story of a young cat facing all the wonders and worries of his first day at cat school. Rob's work can also be found on greeting cards, ceramics, textiles, prints, stationery, and glassware. An honors graduate of Leicester Polytechnic, Rob now lives in Rutland, England, with his wife, Liz, who is also an artist.
This was definitely a feel-good book! For me, this would be a good book to jumpstart a kindness activity that the class completes together. This book is a great way to demonstrate friendship to children and show an example of an act of kindness.
To keep a secret, Splat enlists his friends to keep his very best friend Seymour busy. But Seymour fell left out, and afraid Splat no longer wants to be his friend.
When Splat wants to honor his best friend Seymour by throwing him a surprise party, Seymour worries that all of Splat's secrecy and absences mean they are no longer friends. All is well in the end. I'm still not a fan of Splat the Cat books, but my preschooler enjoys these stories.
Splat and Seymour are friends. Best friends. But when Splat tries to surprise his friend to show him just how much he cares, Splat accidentally makes his friend believe that they are not friends anymore. A special story about valuing your friends, and it's really the little things that count, not just the big stuff.
This book is labeled a level 1 but to me it should have been level 2 so be careful if you are getting it for a beginning reader. Although it's fun to read and wouldn't take a reader long to learn to read it.
Splat loves his best friend Seymour very much and wants to do something for him. They do and go everywhere together never apart. So trying to make a surprise party for him is hard.
(Not a review, really. Just wanted to point out that this I Can Read! beginning reader is not written by Rob Scotton, as Goodreads has it listed. This was actually written by Alissa Heyman and only *based* on Rob Scotton's Splat the Cat series.)
This book is about two friends that briefly get separated in order for one to plan a party. I enjoyed this book's rhyming and message that patience is good. I would use this book toward the end of the school year.
