Trusting Her Heart is the first full-length romance in Jean C. Gordon's new Paradox Lake Sweet Romance series.
Spending time in the small town of Paradox Lake, NY, is the last thing that Emily Hazard wants to do. Her childhood memories, including the despised nickname Jinx, are anything but fond. However, Emily’s brother Neal is deploying overseas and needs someone to stay with his teenage daughter Autumn while she finishes her senior year. Emily is going to attempt to juggle working remotely as an assistant art director for an advertising agency in New York City and keeping an eye on her niece.
With his career and life in flux, Drew Stacey is currently working for a group of non-profits that is planning to rent the Hazard family's campgrounds on Paradox Lake for a summer program. Deciding it's a good idea to have a man around while he is gone, Neal has asked Drew to stay at the house with Emily and Autumn while Drew prepares the campgrounds.
A minor fender-bender as soon as she hits town, has Emily battling old insecurities. However one person doesn’t view her as a slightly klutzy disaster magnet, and that's the disturbingly attractive Drew. The spark between them is immediate, but Emily’s emotional blinders regarding the town, threaten to derail any prospect of a relationship. Can Emily see beyond the past?

First, thank you to the writer for choosing me as a winner in her Facebook Valentine's Day contest.
This was an easy read as the story moves along at a good pace. It had charming characters, good story & light humor. Even though it was an instant attraction, the romance developed slowly over the narrative.
I would recommend this to those who like Lori Wilde, Susan Mallery, Debbie Macomber or Sheryl Woods.
This was a first time read by this writer. I will read the next book in the series.
Emily is going home to help her brother take care of her niece while he is deployed. Going home brings back so many bad memories of growing up. She meets Drew, who is going to supervise her family's camp for a summer program. Emily is not interested in getting involved, she is only here for the moment and then is headed back to New York City, where she doesn't feel like her nickname "Jinx". Drew is attracted and can't understand why Emily hates small town life so much. While he is trying to change her mind, he is handy in helping navigate the teenage niece who is typical almost 18. The characters in this book are completely relatable. I love the setting, as I spent time in the Adirondacks. A sweet romance that is anything but boring!
just found out i won this ebook 3 20 2022! thanks goodreads!!
she went back to her hometown to babysit her teen niece while the dad was in the service. they had hired a man , to redo the lodge. he is staying at the house. they got in a fender bender when he rear ended her rental car on her way into town when she stopped for ducks crossing the road. i dont know why the cop said it was 'no fault' ....her nickname is jinx
so her brother goes off to the war, she tries to take care of his teen daughter. she is getting to be friends with the man working on the camp. her work is not going well telecommuting and they make her come back to the office needlessly, she rides to ny with him and meets his mom. she thought he was going to go back to ny after the summer to his job and they would be together there, but he wants to stay at the lake year round. she wants to go back to her job in ny
her parents and grandma move back from fl. he gets the job at the lake and wants to stay there. she goes back to ny and finds she got a promotion, but it didnt make her happy and after the first day she quit. he was meeting her at her apt and proposes, she accepts and they move back to the lake
it was a cute story!

I really, really did not like this book and I feel so bad saying that, but it just wasn't great. I found the writing style very choppy with a lot of short, stunted sentences, and dialogue was hard to follow at times. Reading a third person story threw me off as I'm used to first person, and while it's not the story's fault, I don't think I could read another third person story like this. The editing wasn't great and there were a few mistakes, but what bothered me the most was that some characters' names seemed to change throughout the story. At least two of the side characters had two different names and it became so confusing. The author also uses a lot of large, complicated words when smaller, more concise words would have done the trick and would have kept the overall feel of the writing more consistent. I DO have one pro, and that was that I loved the location. Having vacationed in that area many times, it was nice to read a story and think about my time there.
I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. This is my honest review. This was nice, easy romance story. The characters were believable. Emily or Jinx was her nickname, for obvious reasons, comes hone to Paradox Lake to be the guardian to her niece, Autumn. Her brother is shipping out for a tour of duty and needs Emily there, until Autumn leaves for college. Of course, Emily didn't want to come back, she couldn't wait to leave when she was eighteen. Drew is there for the summer, fixing up the campground for the summer program he is in charge of. Sparks fly. Can these two get passed the past.
The book was okay, but Emily had issues getting past her high school angst and issues. She never really seemed to develop as an adult. I would have probably given an additional star, except there were too many wrong names. Drew's last name Stacey was written once as Stacy, his former fiancée Gwen was Tara a couple of times, and one of the two little girls Piper and Mady, was called Opal one time. And then for the blurb promoting the next book, Drew was listed as Dru. Definitely needed some more editing. Additional editing would hopefully help the book flow a bit better, too. It seemed choppy.
Trusting Her Heart is small town romance at its best. Emily and Drew experience all the angst, gossip, love and support that is found in small towns. The characters are personable and the romance develops at an appropriate pace in this well written, clean, heartwarming story. I was invested enough that I read it straight through so the chores and errands will have to wait! This is a very enjoyable book.
I finished this book last night. It was one that I won on Kindle. I liked reading it. As it was about a single father who was a soldier raising a teenage, has best friend working at his families cabins, him getting ready for deplolyment and having his younger sister come to watch his teenage daughter since his was being deployed for awhile. His best friend and his sister fell in love durning the summer as they worked together at the cabins.
A great book that gave you the feeling that one should never give up on love. Very well written and it kept me wanting to read until the end to find out what would happen.
Thank you for allowing me to read such a great book. It peaked my interest in wanting to read more from this author.
I received this book on Kindle in a Goodreads giveaway.
It was cute but the story and relationship between Emily and Drew wasn’t quite enough to suck me in. Overall I liked it well enough but it was ultimately pretty forgettable.
Emily let's her hometown nickname, Jinx, color her world. What she sees as a burden others see as a term of endearment. She is home to watch her brother Neal's daughter Autumn while he is deployed. Neal is still looking out for her so he asks his friend Drew to stay with them. Sparks are flying between Emily and Drew. It is a romance with some funny moments as well as serious ones. Really liked how they each where able to guide Autumn with different approaches and about different things. There is a bump in the road/angst but I loved how it was handled.
