The Other Nadia Bisset

Rate this book
Identical Twins.
A Trusting Mother.
A Stolen Child.

Nadia and Lydia Bisset are identical mirror twins, beautiful, ethereal little girls that make people stop and stare. Carla, their young mother, is exhausted, trudging through endless days of caring for her daughters with little help from her husband, often away on long business trips. At twenty-four, Carla feels like her life has ended before it has even begun.

When a new and helpful neighbour, moves next door, the two women become fast friends, spending every day together for two weeks until Carla awakens one afternoon from a drug-induced sleep to find one of her twins, Lydia, and the new neighbor have disappeared.

Years go by and Lydia remains missing. Meanwhile, Nadia is growing into a bright, sweet, talented child, yet beneath the surface of her sunny disposition lurks a cold and calculating mind. Forced to reckon with Nadia’s growing psychopathy, Carla puts her daughter into therapy only to have her fragile hopes shattered in a single moment of truth. What Carla discovers will blow her world wide open and nothing will ever be the same again.

Whenever I see a book about either twins or a child kidnapping, I just want to read it as the trope especially the whole "stolen at birth" etc has always fascinated me. The reason behind it could be that as a baby myself, I was taken twice by strangers and luckily my parents were very onto it and both times my parents got me back very quickly. In The Other Nadia Bisset, we meet a young mother Carla who lives with her French husband Jean-Claude. She is a lot younger than he is and has just had two twin daughters named Nadia and Lydia. As her husband is cheap and away traveling quite often which we later learn the reason behind, Carla is struggling to raise two twin daughters. That is until she meets her new next-door neighbour Krista Temple and the pair become fast and quick friends. They even start to have this illicit affair and joke about sharing children. Then tragedy strikes for Carla as she wakes up drugged next to Nadia. Krista and Lydia - Nadia's twin is nowhere to be seen and thus begins the search for Krista and Lydia, as it seems Krista has kidnapped Lydia. The book then goes into trying to identify Krista as it seems that was a pseudonym and as the story unravels, it looks like quite a few people in the story are keeping dangerous secrets and they all seem to be surrounding the supposed identity of Krista. Will Carla ever be reunited with Lydia and Nadia to have her other half back as the twins were also known as Mirror Twins. Find out in this twisty thriller by C.A Wittman today which took a twist that even I didn't see coming in the end regarding Carla's husband Jean-Claude - that blew me away.

I received a kindle copy of this book from the goodread's giveaway. I would give this a 3.5 at the most. It covers many genre's suspense, horror. occult, witchcraft. Carla a young woman with identical twin girls is left alone to care for the babies. A young woman moves in next door and befriends Carla. after gaining her trust, Krista the so called new friend drugs Carla and kidnaps one of the twins Lydia is taken and Nadia left behind. Weeks turn into five years. Now Nadia has turned into a tantrum throwing violent child. even killing small animals. No sign of Krista or little lydia. when at five something happens to change again. There are a lot of characters to keep track of which made it frustrating for me. There is also witchcraft thrown in that has a good sized part of the book. Are any of the characters who they claim to be? who really are the good versus bad "guys" and how do they all come together? lots of questions that finally get answered. I was interested enough in the plot to keep on turning the pages. but really was not pleased this book is over 500 pages and could have been told in less. Lots of surprises and twists.

I stumbled across this book when searching Google for my LinkedIn profile. A book about a Nadia Bisset?! Whaaaaat. My name is uncommon as it is! The fact the author chose the particular first and last name as a combination (especially Bisset with one T!) definitely drew me in to read it, and as a bonus it was my kind of fiction book.
So as it turns out, I am not the other Nadia Bisset haha.
I enjoyed this book with the twists, and the storyline. The witchcraft was an interesting spin on it and I glad it didn't get too fantasy Sci Fi like. It was an enjoyable amount.
I read this book in less than 48hours as I couldn't put it down.
The ending has a few unanswered questions, which temporarily annoyed me but I assume it will be in the second book.
Would love to see a book about the Bisset sisters when they are older.

Initially intriguing, but then too complicated

For the first half of the book, I was intrigued with the story of the twins, and related to the feelings of the young mom, overwhelmed, and depressed. Then the mystery with the one twin was also fascinating.
Midway, the story went off the rails for me - too many characters, the thread of witchcraft and the background story of a multitude of dark relationships was confusing. I finished the book because I usually finish what I start. To me, there was a lot of unfinished business, mysteries and deaths with no answers.
I enjoyed some of the character development, and could picture Carla and her husband, even the twins, but the neighbors, families, reporters, detectives, psychologists - I needed a scorecard.
The plot encompassed too many events and characters and not enough resolutions.

A new writer! She has left her mark on a very good read! Well developed characters, a believable storyline, and with twists galore! Twin girls, one is kidnapped. A confused mother, an unfeeling husband, and a twisted family history leads you down the yellow brick road. I'm looking forward to reading more f this remarkable author!

Trigger warning: This book involves detailed descriptions of the wantonly cruel deaths of two pets.

At 531 pages, this book is at least 150 pages too long. It is exasperatingly repetitious and entire chapters are devoted to peripheral characters who are not essential to the main story. The book does not provide a resolution. It does give some answers but there are numerous loose ends which apparently will be tied up in a second volume, which I will not be reading.

So why did I keep reading? A child was abducted. Unless the book is truly unreadable, I will keep going to the end to find out what happens to the child. But I really cannot recommend this book, which is why I gave it only two stars.

wonderfully crafted mystery

An intriguing story of family, choices and destiny. A worthwhile read.
Carla is an innocent young woman when she meets Jean Claude, a worldly Frenchman from old money, old secrets and a power she doesn’t understand but will be forced to figure out. Loved it.

This was a complex story, and towards the end I felt the story became fragmented and there were unanswered questions when it ended.

As a Christian, I was uncomfortable with some of the events but as I read the book (which actually I had trouble putting down), I understood better. It was educational is some aspects, and I like learning when I am reading a novel. Interesting characters, some of them well developed and others just there and I wondered what the point of their being there really was. Maybe I overthink things. Maybe not.

Green Gables Book Reviews thoughts: Are you looking for a book that will GRAB YOU ON PAGE ONE, here it is. The Other Nadia Bisset by C.A. Wittman should be in everyone’s TBR pile. It will keep you up late and if you’re like me, you’ll read it folding the laundry, sneak peeks at it while cooking dinner, and grab it when you wake up. Trust me, it is that good! The characters come alive in this book and I’m still thinking about them! I can’t decide my favorite one yet! I love the way The Other Nadia Bisset is written with short chapters and each chapter revealing more of this twisted tale. Suspense, danger, the unknowns, fear, desire, pain, anger, disbelief, …., it was truly amazing.

About the book: The Other Nadia Bisset by C.A. Wittman

Carla, pregnant with twins, is not happy with her husband. She once found him a fascinating man, older than her, perhaps a bit forbidden? But, now she sees him as arrogant and stingy. After the baby girls, mirror twins, Nadia and Lydia, are born, Jean-Claude simply continues his life. Traveling for work, often weeks at a time, leaving young Carla alone with two baby girls and likely post-partum depression, which Jean-Claude simply called being self-pitying and lazy. The twins were needy, as babies are, and Carla was exhausted, with no help from her husband. When Jean-Claude is home, he criticizes Carla’s appearance, never changes a diaper, and complains the house isn’t tidy. Then he simply leaves again. Carla truly feels alone.

Carla is surprised to see a young woman at her neighbor’s house. The woman approaches Carla and the babies and is so kind and friendly. Of course, she comments on the baby girl’s blond hair, but she also comments on Carla’s looks. The two quickly develop a friendship and Carla is so grateful for a friend. She has been so lonely and Krista becomes a part of her life with Nadia and Lydia, helping with the girls. They spend days taking care of and playing with the girls. Evenings they enjoy drinking wine, talking about life, and deepening their fast friendship. Carla feels drawn in by Krista, doing things she never would have done before, feeling happy and free for the first time in a long while.

One morning Carla wakes up, and something is wrong. Nadia is in her arms. Carla feels so groggy, she is in pain, her body has been abused. And, Lydia and Krista are gone. They are nowhere, they have simply disappeared. A frenzy of the police, the media, and search groups follow while Carla becomes a shell of who she used to be. She feels blamed and questioned by so many. Will Lydia ever be found?

Years pass with no word about Lydia. Nadia has horrible tantrums, piercing screams, and cries that leave Carla in disbelief. When the school calls a meeting about Nadia, more tension comes between Carla and Jean-Claude as they are forced to examine her aggressive behaviors. And, without warning, the police are back in their lives.

An emotional book, hard to put down, waiting for book 2!

What a great thriller!
This is a story of two faces. Firstly, there’s the kidnap of a child and associated events that give this book the elements of a crime novel, which will appeal to those who love following developments from both the personal and operational perspective. Secondly, we are hit with something even darker that will leave you with some very disturbing feelings. On top of these two major themes, you’ll find other issues of deceit and of mental disturbance. All in all, there’s a lot packed into this book.

Even though it seems there’s a lot going on, the story doesn’t feel like it’s too full. Instead, it has the feel of a real life packed with challenges and a combination of the everyday and the dramatic that can pull a reader into the characters’ world. I definitely got engrossed in this one.

The ending of this book is fascinating. When I picked it up I didn’t realise that it was ‘book one’ and so I read it initially as a stand-alone story. When it drew to a close with some significant questions left unanswered, I actually wasn’t disappointed. I spent time pondering for myself where this tale had led and the meaning of the remaining mysteries. To find out that there will be a book two to continue the story has me rather excited.

Whilst I did receive a free ARC of this book, my review is left voluntarily as I just hope to help others decide whether this might be the book for them. Personally, I’d say this is one to take a chance on if the themes interest you. It’s very well-written with a varied but compelling pace and some excellent, well-formed characters alongside an extensive supporting cast. I had never read anything by C.A. Wittman before but I doubt this will be the last book I pick up from this author.

what the heck?

I can’t believe reading this tale of twins separated through kidnapping, then switched out again. The build up to the climax of this story had me reading non stop for the last third only to be left with so many questions! I guess since it says book 1 there must be at least one more but the ending just left a lot!

Wow! What a book.

The premise intrigued me and fortunately the story did not disappoint.

Carla and Jean-Claude have identical “mirror” twins, Nadia and Lydia. Carla becomes overwhelmed with being a new mom (who also likely has some postpartum depression) and Jean-Claude is a complete jerk who is wholly unsupportive.

Not too long in, one of the twins is kidnapped and thus the story begins. There is a lot of witchcraft alluded to (and outright explained too), but it fits will within the context of the novel. Plenty of secrets, twists and turns that will make you say, “wait...what?!”

The ending feels a little rushed but I assume it’s because things will be more fleshed out in the next book. Overall, quite gripping and will leave you feeling satisfied if you are into this sort of genre.

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I have mixed feelings about this book because it definitely held my interest even though it was at least 100 pages too long. I say at least 100 pages because they contained a lot of unnecessary sub-plots and boring information. So needless in fact, that none of them were resolved or even mentioned again in the end. The story was very captivating and intriguing at first until it seemed to spiral out of control a little bit with witchcraft and extensive French family history and racism and lesbians and various missing persons and threats and a few murdered people, two of whom had nothing whatsoever to do with anything. After all that, there was no actual closure, which could either mean a sequel is planned or that the author simply had no clue how to clean up all those pointless loose ends. I'm afraid it's the latter.

The Other Nadia Bisset

This was truly a great thriller. I loved the suspense created by the author. I really felt for these characters who were well rounded and intriguing. I don’t want to give any spoilers but the charming first part of the book quickly changes and the reader is pulled in to a web on “who done it and why”.
Please read this exceptional thriller so you can find out for yourself The who and the why.
Thank you to C.A. Wittman and goodreads for the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful book.

I loved this book and read it in two sittings. The story is paced well and the characters interesting. I felt sorry for the the main character. I’m sure there are many new mums out there suffering with undiagnosed post natal depression. That’s bad enough without the additional worry of a kidnapped child and an unsupportive husband. Lovely twist at the end which I didn’t see coming.

This was the first giveaway that I won, thank you so much Goodreads! This was a good one, lots of twists and turns. At times I felt Carla was naive that she so blindly accepted Krista into her life but in a bone weary postpartum mom of twins anything is possible. Same for her involvement with Lucien but Jean Claude was not supportive of her and then to find out his part in this... There were several unanswered questions at the end so maybe the author has a sequel in mind.

This book had an interesting premise, what happens when 1 twin is taken. Carla is a young mom exhausted caring for 2 high maintenance girls, she is isolated and eager for company and help. In enters Krista Temple...Carla's world will never be the same. The story kept me turning the pages and after a while I trusted no one! I caught a few things that didn't get addressed and wonder if they will appear in Book two.

Great story!

Puzzling!

Hints of witchcraft, wiccans and satanist! Twins born, mirror twins. Organs and birthmarks on opposite sides. One chubby toddler stolen from her home, who would do such a thing?

When lonely. depressed young mother of twins Carla Bisset is befriended by Kriszta Temple, she is happy and relieved when the latter starts helping her with childcare duties, and more.

Until the latter disappears, taking one of her twins with her.

The police suspect something more sinister than a maternal kidnapping, as Bisset was also drugged and violated in her sleep.

Carla's mother and inattentive husband both blame her, but soon the case goes cold. Not before the police, however, find disturbing clues that Temple may have been involved in a secret occult society. And that she belongs to jthe kind of old money that is unanswerable to most authorities. Meanwhile, the remaining twin begins to behave in ways that definitely raise red flags.

This novel is a slow burn until things really heat up towards the end. The writer has a way of evoking sensuality, and how the curl of evil can corrupt that. There are graphic descriptions of the remaining twin's psychopathic treatment of animals that is hard to stomach, but these certainly heighten the increasing sense of menace.

Carla is to find out secrets that are to shake the very foundation of her life, as events escalate further, others in her life put into deadly danger. Will she ever find happiness again, or even peace?

There are twists that can be seen far off, others less so, this is a page turner. This is certainly a page turner, though the ending seemed a little rushed: however it seems that a trilogy is being planned.

It was good - something I’d definitely recommend
There were quite a few twists that kept the reader guessing what would happen next and it didn’t end quite so badly as some of the other reviews said. It’s true that you don’t know what happens to lilliane, Jean-Claude, or Nadia but that is why there is a second book. This book didn’t leave me needing to immediately get the second one, though (I also think it’s telling that only 14 people have left ratings on the 2nd book in comparison to almost 500 on the first). Truthfully, I probably won’t read it at all. This book was good and I liked how they had the switch of the twins but I think the way that the witchy stuff was added made it really confusing to read. There also seemed to be no reason for the murders that take place? Like that lilliane just did most of them for fun. I don’t think sally or that boy had to die and those parts of the book could’ve been completely cut out. I also don’t think Ann had to die. Also the despicable acts that Jean-Claude commits against flor probably didn’t need to happen even though I get that e author was trying to paint him as a bad person but I didn’t think she needed the rape to do that. I also felt like the charlotte was an unnecessary character.

A dark and twisty story that leaves many questions unanswered. I look forward to reading the next instalment in the Dawn of Lillith series.

We follow Carla, a new mum to twins and a wife to an older husband. Motherhood hasn't come easy to Carla and she is often left alone for long periods, unsupported, while her husband works away. When a beautiful woman moves in next door and seduces Carla, the last thing she expects is to wake up one day, the victim of assault and with one of her children missing.

The characters were well developed, though if you struggle with female protagnosists that aren't strong, this may not be the book for you. In my view, there are too many peripheral characters whose names and relationships are confusing and take away from the storyline though these characters may be required later during the story.

Readers should be aware of triggers including sexual assault, gaslighting and child abduction. We also contend with murder and racial divisions including reference to hate crimes.

If you're after something dark with a unique plot, give this book a try. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the story develops.

Thanks for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

In C A Wittman’s The Other Nadia Bisset, Carla Bisset faces every parent’s worst nightmare when she wakes up to find one of her twins missing. And while many may have thought that Carla was crazy to trust a stranger, the kidnapper may have been closer than they all knew.

There was so much going on with this book, I felt like I needed to start a bookTube just so I could do a spoilers review. The Other Nadia Bisset touches on a lot of subjects, like incest, pedophilia, obsession, racism, mixed babies who look nothing like their mother, not having a good support system as a young mother, and some good old-fashioned adultery. Carla Bisset goes through quite a bit during this book, and I think what plagues her the most is how much of it is withheld from her.

When I first started this novel, I felt like Wittman was telling me way too much. I knew Krista Temple was the kidnapper long before she actually took one of the babies. To be fair, I felt like I knew the outcome from the summary that was posted on BookSirens, but the full reveal blew me away in the end. So, I ultimately came to like how Wittman would tell you things, and then flesh it out later.

Ultimately, I liked this book. The jury is still out on whether I would read the sequel, but I wouldn’t outright say no. There’s definitely a good bit of suspense, thrill, and the reveals are worth the read. I would recommend this to any fan of suspense thrillers.

WOW ... what a book!! With an opening like that, you are perhaps wondering why 4 stars? Well, the only thing that detracted from this book was the length. I personally believe that what the author was saying, especially with it being the first in a series, could have been said in 100 less pages as some of the book really came across as inconsequential for me - perhaps others will disagree.

Some really interesting twists in the book, some questions to be answered in book 2 as well ... so despite the length of this book I will definitely be reading the next in the series.

Character development was excellent weaved, so that you get to the point where you love some, hate some and love to hate others!

The plot was well developed, there were some moments of suspense as well.

Really enjoyed the book, even though I skipped over some of the parts. Despite that, highly recommended if you enjoy the thriller/supernatural genre.

Wow, what a great story. It has you hooked from page one to the very last page. Excellent characters and some very interesting plot twists.

Carla is a new mom with mirror twin girls, her husband is away for work a lot and she is not coping so well. One day she meets the young woman, Krista, who is renting her neighbours house and the become quick friends. Krista is more than happy to help Carla out with Nadia and Lydia. Their friendship blooms, until one day when Carla awakes from a nap to discover both Krista and Lydia are gone. An investigation is started, but eventually it turns cold and life must go on. Carla and her husband are learning how to adjust to life, when another unexpected twist comes their way.

C. A writes great story lines and really has you feeling for Carla and all the other characters that get involved with trying to find out what happened to Lydia. The character development is superb and the plot twists are excellent. Keeps you wanting to turn the pages.

Thank you to Book Sirens, andC. A. Wittman for the advanced copy of this book

Well this one left me on the fence. I cannot go as far as saying it's a great novel, you have to read it, don't miss this one, or things to that nature. But I also cannot say this book was horrible, don't waste your time reading it, or the like. Because I liked the storyline, it is very good, intricate and complex, so it does keep the reader's attention. The characters are developed nicely, only there are too many secondary characters to keep track of, some of which have very little if anything to do with the overall plot of the book.
Also I feel it was too lengthy, with too much filler that added nothing to the meaning of the book and only left you a bit confused as to why it was put in there to begin with.
The ending, if I hadn't known this is only book 1 in a series would have been quite irritating, nothing is resolved! You still have no idea who the kidnapper Krista Temple really is and are left with even more questions than answers as some of the plot twists you encounter throughout the book lead to more and more questions.
These twists do keep you interested, they kept me interested enough to keep reading till the end. I only hope the next book comes out soon before I love interest in finding resolutions to unanswered questions.
I give 3 stars, if you read it you should be somewhat entertained, if you miss it, you won't be missing out on anything spectacular. Also, reader beware this book talks of incest, pedophilia, murder, it describes graphically the harming of small animals, psychopaths, witchcraft, satanism and more.
I received a free ARC of this book, I am leaving my honest review voluntarily in return.

A Book to Ponder Over

The book started out with twin daughters being born to an overwhelmed couple.
The mother was very young and the father much older.
He was never home,as he had a Company to run.
However,it stayed innocent enough,
until one of the twins was stolen by a woman,Carla had befriended
There the story really takes off.
There are many aspects to think about,as there is :adultery, lesbian relationship, Police,FBI,Witchcraft, murder, more kidnapping and the list goes on.
First off, this is normally, not my kind of book but this one sounded interesting, especially as there are twins in my family.
Once you start reading the first few pages,it sucks you right in and you have to continue,as it just gets better and better.

I may not read another about witchcraft right away, but I would recommend this to anyone who likes their novels to be beyond the norm, when it starts out so ordinary.
