A former soldier trying to escape his past is adrift in small town USA.
An FBI agent goes against her superiors’ orders, investigating strange kidnappings in the heart of middle America.
When the unimaginable happens and the world is plunged into darkness, the survivors will be forced to face their greatest fears as they’re dragged to their breaking points - and beyond.
This was definitely a different kind of apocalypse book. The action alone keeps you gripped until the end. How will this all turn out. I am ready for the next book to see how things work out.
Lucas Croydon and Kari Davenport are each (separately), caught up in apocalyptic survival events, after an EMP event devastates America.Trying to get to the same destination - the Alleghany National Forest - for different reasons, leaves both in danger. Ex-Army Lucas teams up with 'OJ' a car-dealership owner, (struggling financially, even before the EMP), both wanting to get reunited with family. FBI Agent Kari 'hitches' a lift in a helo, that crashes in the Forest and leaves her the sole survivor. Can she find her way to Lucas? Will he betray her? Journalist Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Bateman, regrets tricking her way into survivalist group leader Chase Croydon's Camp Winter compound in the Forest, after he imprisons her and cameraman Ethan. What deadly secrets is Chase hiding?
As death stalks the Forest and urban streets alike, how does the EMP affect everyday life for all? Justin Bell and Mike Kraus' post apocalyptic survival thriller series, Breaking Point, will open your eyes to a shocking, yet riveting,near-future 'what if...?' possibility in the series opener of the same name, that you must read from cover to cover as soon as possible...get your copy today!
There are some not uncommon elements in the story. A brooding, loner ex-military estranged from his family, brother who is really a vile psychopathic survivalist. The troubled FBI agent is a bit different and I must say she can really handle herself when it counts. Overall, the writing is good, though there was a typo "liableLi". I was also puzzled by the spelling Alleghany in Pennsylvania—the counties in Virginia and Maryland are spelled "Alleghany" but according the internet and my hardcopy Rand-McNally, the National Forest and river in PA is "Allegheny". I would assume the other spelling is probably also correct? I always have to have a character to cheer and in this book it is Lucas. I am also curious that there is allusion that the EMP origin may be related to Chase and his group feeling good that they had prepared so well. On to book 2.
It's hard to imagine the affects of an EMP on our country. We are so plugged in that pulling the plug is quite a scary thought. I'm not a fan of the lead character Kari. I doubt she could have passed the psychological quals for the FB I. She is a very loose cannon. The other characters are quite interesting and it will be fun to see how the story continues.
The writer has weaved a most interesting storyline with intriguing characters. Kari is an FBI agent currently on administrative leave due to her investigation of a dozen missing young women. She is wallowing in self pity because her difficult years growing up and she has become dependent on heroine. Lucas is retired military and brother to Chase, the man Kari suspects is behind the disappearance of the women.
I like the new take on an EMP story. Strong characters, some may be broken and/or with secrets. Strong female characters. Chapters floating back and fourth through time, takes some getting use to. Personally, not a fan of this style. Action moves along fairly well. The camp is a new element. The brothers are both interesting, even if they are polar opposites. The plot is interesting and captures your interest from the first chapter.
I was looking for a similar read to another series by this author and found this one. While the apocalyptic events begin at the beginning of the book, this one is much more about the FBI agent’s back story. It also focuses on one other main character and his current story, but it’s literally only two or three days into the EMP event. It is just moving much slower than I expected and wanted with each page turn.
Alone, on disciplined you leave from the FBI. Kari, heads to a wilderness to follow her gut on a case she won’t let go. Ina helicopter everything fails and the helicopter crashes to earth. 4dead including the Pilot. Kari doesn’t know why. But continues with her ideation. Not knowing that an EMP has struck and all power has gone.
Excellent 1st book in the start of this series by Justin Bell and Mike Kraus
An EMP hits and within a couple of days the country is going on a downward spiral. Not knowing how far reaching the power outage is makes for a dangerous time. A helicopter goes down and everyone is dead except for a FBI agent on the trail of a survivalist camp in Pennsylvania.
Another great book to read by Justin Bell. I enjoyed the story as it was different in many ways. A cop that takes drugs and is put in the middle of Mt. Ranges. Not telling which ones or where. Keep giving us great plots in the rest of the story in the series.
There are so many direction going all at once. And no it is not confusing, each group has their own issues. This is a very good book and it is only the first book in "The Breaking Point" series. ENJOY THE JOURNEY.
Lots of action. Interesting story of degenerated Survivalist Camp in the eastern USA. The beginnings of a broken female FBI agent's desperate effort to findthe camp and whoever is behind itt and bring it down.
Every book this guy writes follows the same formula. World goes to hell, good guy with problems takes down psychopathic killers. Blah, blah, blah. The entire story could be condensed in to one book and it would still be boring.
It has been a real interesting read. There are a couple different storyline so I can't wait till the next installment to this series. Want to see how she becomes a hero.
This is the first in a new series that is off to a great start. The characters have various defects that adds to the way they deal with the happening in the story.
