All Things Lovely: Inspiring Health and Wholeness in Your Home, Heart, and Community

Rate this book
Take the first steps to living as a healthier and happier woman and discover the spiritual importance of acceptance, gathering, and community.

Jenn Johnson has come to realize that the pursuit of perfection is unrealistic and unfair. Instead, we need to pause and reflect on what's in front of us. But how? How can we slow down? How can we remain focused on what's important and do things with intention? What can we pursue that represents God's heart for us, things that are true, noble, right, pure, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy?

By pursuing all things "lovely." Living a holistic and holy life, a life marked by beauty and truth, means being mindful and intentional about what we put in our bodies, how we present ourselves to the world, the spaces we create, and the people we let into our lives. When we set our minds on what is lovely, we begin to see ourselves and the world as God intended. We begin to be wholly renewed.

Johnson says she wrote this book to give encouragement to readers, to be healthy emotionally, spiritually, and physically. She wants us to be able to deal with the messy parts of those areas in our lives and have all the parts of our lives moving in the same direction. While she shares her insights, she does want each of us to find what works for us.

Practical instructions are given, such as cleaning out the junk in our homes and then creating an organized way to live comfortably in the space we have. There are also good spiritual lessons following the practical teaching.

This is a good book for young married women and career age women. Johnson has tips on organizing the house, such as having the washer and dryer in a closet on the sleeping and dressing level of the house. Especially with children, it makes lugging the laundry a much easier task. This would be a good book to consult when building a house as design ideas are included. There are also ideas for gathering and hosting, including some yummy recipes. (Note: Johnson is not even close to being a vegetarian.)

The financial commitment to do many of the suggestions in this book may be beyond the abilities of many readers. Johnson's suggestions for what to include in the pool house, the design for a great room, purchasing storage containers, and other ideas may be a prohibitive financial burden to the average family.

This is a beautiful book full of practical ideas and spiritual lessons and wonderful photos. It will certainly appeal to readers who want to be on the cutting edge of classy living and entertaining.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

All Things Lovely by Jenn Johnson really is a lovely book. This book has gorgeous pictures, encouraging words and tips to live a better life in several ways.

All Things Lovely is divided in four parts: Home, Heart, Health and Hospitality. Each section has three or four chapters just full of advice on making your life better in each of these areas. I liked how honest and real Johnson was throughout the book reminding us all that we aren't perfect but we are striving to do better each day. I could relate to much of what she shared personally. I also was inspired by her advice to do a bit better in each of these areas of my life. She does share with her Christian faith as part of her life and there are Bible verses throughout the book. There is some good advice about organizing. There is some helpful tips on guarding your heart and doing the right things. Throughout the book, it all feels real and inspiring. There are even recipes like taco dip and pumpkin cookies. I love the beautiful pictures and the way the book is organized. I know I will refer to it whenever I need some inspiration--or one of her recipes.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

Clean out your closet & gather people in your home for worship and fellowship.

SCRIPTURE: over everything and every situation.

In All Things Lovely, Jenn Johnson has written a brand-new book that touches on being healthy, cooking, getting your home organized, hosting parties, and achieving wholeness in your life. Jenn is a cofounder of Bethel Music and is also a worship leader with her husband, Brian. She begins the book by sharing how she has been married for 21 years. She told the story of how they met, got engaged after only ten days, and got married. They have three biological children. In the book, she shared how they come to the decision to also adopt two children after that. In the book, she shared how they have lived in their third fixer up house. She explained the renovation process and how they had a dream to create a home where they can host parties for their communities. They have hosted single events, worship events, holiday parties, and much more. She revealed tips and secrets of how she got organized and how others can declutter their own lives. Another big scope of the book was looking at the matters of the heart and building your relationship with Christ. She shared how she was able to wrote a song, “I Can Feel You” about how she was able to feel God’s presence and receive a personal transformation.

I would recommend this wonderful book to anyone who is needing assistance in getting their lives in order and they are wanting to connect closer to their Heavenly father. I immensely loved how she included countless tips on getting organized and the power of containers to make rooms look neater. I also loved the chapter on healing and how she opened up about her husband battle with having a nervous breakdown and how he was able to heal and deal with the stress and anxiety he was facing. She explained how the Holy Spirit revealed to him that he needed to name all the people he needed to forgive in his life. He was able to bounce back and get healing. I also loved how she discussed being healthy and included a lot of recipes to do so. A lot of them looked really tasty such as the Baked Chicken Nuggets with Dipping Sauce, Greek Yogurt Pancakes, Zucchini Fries, Breakfast Tacos, and there is a bunch more enclosed. I also loved the idea of how they host single events and they create a mixer where people can meet each other. I absolutely loved this idea and wished my church and community would do something like this. I also loved how the book contain high quality photos and it just made the book more appealing. Overall, if you’re looking for a book on home, community, faith, then read this book!

“A cluttered desk creates a cluttered mind.” A teacher from my elementary school days repeated this statement often and it cemented in my mind. This also pertains to our homes, hearts, and lives. This book has motivated me to get to decluttering right away, and not waiting for the Spring-cleaning season.

In All Things Lovely, Jenn Johnson emphasizes the importance of focusing on things that bring beauty and peace to our lives and praise to our God. Like her, I’m a details-oriented person, so I connected with her very easily.

The book is organized into four sections: Home, Heart, Health, and Hospitality. The book flows well and feels ‘doable’ and the photos are beautiful, inspiring, and motivating. I’m pleased that recipes are included as well.

I love how this book is broken down into “bite-sized” pieces, so I don’t become swallowed up by the (too) big picture. For instance, when organizing and decluttering my home, the author suggests breaking things up into small tasks. Room-by-room or drawer-by-drawer, etc. This is right up my alley, coinciding with my style of thinking and doing.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review was not influenced.

Absolutely gorgeous book. I proudly display my copy on my favorite coffee table in my home library and I get a little rush at seeing guests grab it and go through it and remark on how pretty it is. All Things Lovely is all things lovely in design.

Content: Stunning photos, beautiful format, and writing style that gives insight and instruction on how to seek out the time and space to find things within your own life for good health and contentment in your home. Jenn Johnson obviously leads a fabulous life that I may never come close to achieving but to read her commentary is inspiring and influential. I imagine that this makes a great gift for anyone with stagnant dreams and ambitions that need to be reignited again.

Absolutely recommend.

A big thanks to the good people of GoodReads and to Worthy Books for my free copy of this book won via giveaway. I received. I read. I reviewed this book honestly and voluntarily.

This book from Bethel Worship leader is a nice alternative for Christians who want the home improvement genre style writings. The coffee table style book is filled with tips, recipes and Biblical help with glossy pages and wonderful photographs added. Although geared for the female crowd, there are several great tips that male readers can use as well.

“Don’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover” with this one. I’m not familiar with Jenn Johnson or her husband and their activity with Christian music. After reading the blurb, I thought this was going to be a hygge version of another farmhouse decorating/lifestyle book. Jenn includes prayers and devotions and some faith and salvation experiences. It was an enjoyable book although I didn’t learn any new home decorating or organizational skills. It also includes a few of her favorite recipes.

Really so good. The book is beautiful to look at, but has such depth. Hospitality, decluttering, design, faith, parenting, decorating, mental health, physical health, party planning. A pleasure to read. It makes you reflect in a non-judgy way. Jenn is so kind, encouraging & generous. Very inspiring.

This is more of a dnf until another time. Just not what I was expecting. It is more of a practical guide on organizing your life with the help of the Holy Spirit. Still good just not what I need right now.

This was a really inspiring devotional. Great pictures and great content. Lots of Bible verses, lots of ideas for organizing which I love, ideas for hospitality, etc. It definitely wouldn't work for everyone - most of her ideas, even if they're "thrifted" still involve a lot of money that most people wouldn't have - but despite this, it's still an inspiration. I loved it.
