Cornish Romance #4

In the Waves of Tristwick

Rate this book
What is a fisherman to do when he catches a mermaid in his net? Let her go—or fall in love?

A Regency Romance
Cornwall, 1815

As a well-respected fisherman in the Cornish seas, Trevik Honeysett provides a living for many poor families in the southwest of Cornwall. Despite the most powerful fishing companies attempting to cut off his own ability to fish, Trevik refuses to give up. However, when he discovers a mysterious, injured woman entangled in his net, things become much more complicated—especially when suspicions arise that she is, in fact, a mermaid. Knowing he might very well lose his workers to their superstitious beliefs, Trevik decides to uncover just who the woman is. The only problem is…she can’t remember.

In truth, Morvoren Hollow knows exactly who she is. She merely needs to keep her identity a secret long enough to accomplish what she’d set off to do. Fortunately, pretending to be a mermaid will keep Society away long enough to do just that. Her lie becomes harder to manage, however, as her injury takes longer to heal—and as the nosy but handsome fisherman reels closer to the truth.

The two clash head-to-head as Trevik refuses to believe Morvoren is actually a siren from the sea. But such a thing would be easier to imagine than what he finally discovers about her past. Fearful of what might happen next, Morvoren must decide her next step. She can either learn to trust again—or end up truly alone.

This is the fourth book in the clean Regency Cornish Romance series by Deborah M. Hathaway.

Although this romance is a stand-alone novel, the books are best enjoyed when read in order.

Deborah M. Hathaway graduated from Utah State University with a degree in English and Creative Writing. As a young girl, she devoured Jane Austen's novels while watching and re-watching every adaptation of Pride & Prejudice she could, entirely captured by all things Regency and romance.

Throughout her life, she wrote many short stories, poems, and essays, but it was not until after her marriage that she was finally able to complete her first romance novel, attributing the completion to her courtship with, and love of, her charming, English husband.

Deborah finds her inspiration for her novels in her everyday experiences with her husband and children and during her travels to the United Kingdom, where she draws on the beauty of the country in such places as Ireland, Yorkshire, and her beloved Cornwall.

I was instantly hooked with the mermaid theme of this book! I love the deep connection Morvoren has to the sea, and the way it carried a mysteriously emotional vibe throughout the story. She and Trevik certainly do clash- he values honesty and doesn't trust easily, while she is acting on instinct in survival mode. It's entertaining to see them poke and prod at each other, alternately teasing and offending. They both are humbled and intrigued as they get to know one another's true selves over time as Morvoren heals in the Honeysett home and small coastal town of Tristwick. Trevik's mother and sister Poppy are so loveable and draw Morvoren into their little family, giving her the sense of home that she has been yearning for. I loved the banter between Trevik and Morvoren the most, with them fighting attraction and struggling to communicate the truth of their feelings as they grow stronger. I also enjoyed the rich historical details of life in Cornwall that this author portrays so well, making me feel immersed in the fishing livelihood of the tight-knit community. I'm so excited to read Poppy's story next!

If you know anything about this author, then you know she has a deep love for the sea, especially in Cornwall. That love truly shines through in her writing in this story. It was such a beautiful connection between the characters and the sea that I felt like I was there standing on the beach or the cliffside, or on the boat. I felt the wind and could smell the salt in the air as well as picturing the beauty of the water and horizon. That is a mark of a great book for me, when I feel as if I am there with the characters.

I loved the mermaid aspects as well. Of course, we know she's not a mermaid but the folklore and old wives' tales definitely played into the fear of some of the characters. And I can't help but laugh at Morvoren's own little moments of playing into the speculation of her being a mermaid pulled from the sea. Hahaha!!! The mermaid aspects were fun to read but also learning more about the fishing trade kept me very intrigued while reading this book. So very interesting!!!

Morvoren and Trevik have a rock start to their relationship. But even with that rocky start, I still enjoyed the tension that was written into their interactions. Then as they call somewhat of a truce, their relationship starts to develop further. Their banter back and forth throughout the book had me giggling and smiling. I loved how it showed their personalities and their desire are characters to protect family (that's a little vague but no spoilers from me)!

The Honeysett family quickly made their way into my heart. And I'm looking forward to reading Poppy Honeysett's story next in this series. She's such a fun character. I love her goodness and friendliness and can't wait to learn more about her when I read her story. She definitely takes after her brother Trevik in those traits.

If you're looking for sweet and clean romance, that aspect of Trevik and Morvoren's relationship is delightful. They have sparks flying between them due to their banter, but also due to the growing attraction and chemistry between them. There are so many scenes between them that I just adored so much! On the boat, in the cellars, on the beach, at the swimming hole, on the rocks, in the wagon cart, at dinner (especially one dinner-hahahahaha!!!) and so many more! And the ending...oh my heart! You're in for a real treat!

If you haven't already caught on from my review, I highly recommend reading this one. I wished I could have picked it up and devoured it right away but my schedule was such that I only was able to read a page here and there but it was delightful and kept pulling me back in until I was able to read their story to the end.

Content: Clean. Some mild moments of peril. A couple sweet kisses and nothing further.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

In the Waves of Tristwick is a historical romance, but it’s also much more. Truly I feel I learned a lot while reading this story, especially about the harsh realities of life in a village off the Cornish coast. The whims of the sea, as well as the bigger enterprises that threatened their livelihoods, alarmed locals who literally needed the fish to survive. On top of this, many of them were superstitious, believing in mermaids and other signs and omens.

It’s into this mindset that Moroven is thrust into when she is rescued from the sea by Trevik a fisherman and captain of his own boat. While rattled, her memory is intact, and Moroven has good reason to keep her past close to her – her very survival may depend on it. Trevik doesn’t trust strangers easily, so the two definitely have a rocky path before them as they become familiar with each other. I love the secondary characters, especially Trevik’s mother and sister. Their cottage though humble is charming and happy, becoming a home for Moroven that her more affluent past never afforded her.

From the immersive setting and details of life on the Cornish coast to the high stakes of Moroven’s past, this novel held my attention with its unique glimpse into the Regency period. I haven’t read the prior books in the series, but that didn’t hinder my enjoyment in the least. It did, however, make me want to go back soon to read the other books in the series. This is my second full length novel by Hathaway, and I can already tell she’s going to be a consistently great author for me, which is always a happy thing.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel; these are my honest thoughts and opinions.

Deborah Deborah Deborah....

In the Waves of Tristwick takes place on the shores of Cornwall. When a woman gets caught in a fishermen's net alive..but barely...she takes refuge in his home amongst his family and sets unease with some of the members of the community who think she is indeed....a sea maiden.

What Deborah does SO excellently is always making her books feel historically immersive. Its in the language, the tiny details, the scenery and setting and in the culture the characters represent.

I fell in love with Trevick. This fishermen is not one to ignore with a kind heart, a strong loyalty and a good physical form to back it up. His relationship with Morvoren starts off as slow...and little by little the sparks of attraction turn into a love that is worth rooting for. Everything about this romance feels so organic...from the moments the two characters spend alone...to the moments mixed in amongst family and friends. Morvoren has secrets to hide and when she finds the first place where she feels as though she belongs in years...her walls start to come down...even though she can't quite tame her quick tongue (which I loved all the more).

So many wonderful tender moments with moments that will just make you feel good and put a smile on your face!

I cannot think of a single thing that I did not enjoy about this book. Deborah has a cemented fan for life. Cannot wait for the next book in this series. Can most definitely be read as a standalone as I have not read the books before in this series but feel I missed nothing.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Deborah Hathaway's Cornish Romance series and how unique each plot and set of characters is. In the Waves of Tristwick is no exception. This story was so entirely original, I loved the distinctive storyline and how I've never read something quite like this before. The whole mermaid subplot was delightful and genuinely creative. The setting was so beautifully depicted, the fictional cove of Tristwick came alive to me and I enjoyed imagining the town, the coast, and the people. Even the way the author wrote the dialogue brought this story to life as I could hear their accents and culture depicted on the page.
Morvoren and Trevik had such strong chemistry, I could feel their sparks coming off the pages. I loved their banter and flirting, especially when they were flirting about flirting. Hathaway skillfully weaves all these delicious moments between Trev and Morvoren that deliver all the feels while keeping everything wholesome. It is romance in its purest form and definitely delivers. I loved the growth they each experienced as well as the way they opened up more and more, trusting and sharing their truths with one another.
I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I highly recommend this book and this series. It can be read as a standalone, but it was an added bonus to see some fun cameos of the characters from her earlier novels.

“She blew out a breath. What was the world coming to, now that she, Morvoren Hollow, admired a fisherman?” I absolutely loved this fourth book in Deborah M. Hathaway’s Cornish Romance series. Morvoren, the sassy spirited heroine and Trevik, the handsome flirtatious fisherman completely drew me into the story. I loved the witty dialogue, enemies to lovers slow-burn romance, and the twists and turns in this original story.

The last thing Morvoren wants is life with a fisherman. Running away from a cruel uncle and untenable marriage proposal, she decides to indulge in something her uncle has forbidden, a swim in the ocean. She has no idea her indulgence will land her in a fisherman’s net.

When Trevik and his fellow drifters pull in their net, the last thing they expect is a “mermaid” known to bring havoc and destruction. So when Morvoren is found caught in Trevik’s net, rumors quickly fly and to one superstitious older man, Edern, she’s a menace that needs to go. Trevik may have saved Morvoren’s life, but there’s hardly gratitude expressed. In fact, her sharp tongue at once intrigues but also infuriates him. With nowhere else to go and an injured ankle, Morvoren must find a way to endure until she can travel to her friend’s house. What she doesn’t expect is to find friendship, romance, and feeling part of a family again.

I loved the characters, not only Trevik and Morvoren, but his mother and sister Poppy too. Also enjoyed Trevik’s fellow fishermen, even the irascible Edern, and fell in love with this endearing fishing village where they all look out for each other and work together to survive.

There were so many swoonworthy scenes. I especially loved it when Morvoren accuses Trevik of not knowing how to flirt and boy does he show her he does. The romantic tension between the two is palpable and I loved the humorous good natured teasing moments between the two.

The Cornish setting is amazing and Ms. Hathaway really makes it come alive with her beautiful descriptions. I felt like I could hear the waves crashing on the shore and smell the salty sea air. I enjoyed the historical aspects of the novel and the careful detail the author includes in the story.

Highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the other books in the series. This book can definitely be read as a standalone, though may be more enjoyable for those familiar with previous characters who show up in the book. I can’t wait to read Poppy’s story and look forward to the next book in the series. Thank you to Deborah M. Hathaway for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5.

In the Waves of Tristwick was amazing. Enemies to lovers. Evading an unwanted marriage. Evil uncle. Mistaken for a mermaid and being persecuted for it.

The cute meet was unique. Like nothing I’ve ever read before and I loved it! I also loved how it showed Morvoran’s strength to stand up for herself. So many things in this book were unexpected, like her reaction to the meet cute.

I love banter in books. The dialog in this book was so good that I had a hard time not rushing to read it. Trevik and Morvoran know how to brandish their words in such an entertaining way.

The ending solution was so unexpectedly perfect. I just had no idea how she would resolve it, but I trusted her to give me my happily ever after.

I loved Morvoran’s love of the sea. My husband periodically tries to talk me into living in a land locked state, and I just can’t do it. I loved and understood Morvoran’s love of the ocean.

I loved learning about Mermaid folklore and the way the scenes of Morvoran’s looking out at the sea. It felt like a scene from Poldark.

I loved Trevik’s response to the first meal Morvoran cooked for their family. This was the moment I became a Trevik fan.

The romance scenes were so perfect. The almost kisses were intense. The first one was funny. It was clean, but 🔥.

My only question is, does poppy get a book? I sure hope she does, because I adored her.

This had allllll of the romance y’all. Super swoony. Can’t believe I haven’t read any of the other books in this series. I must go remedy after enjoying this one.

It’s long for a regency (400 pages) and I would say I only noticed that a tiny bit. This is filled with plenty to keep the pages flipping. I liked the mixed of small quiet moments, and the bigger all out kind of scenes. A fun twist was the addition of mermaid lore. I loooove all things mermaid so this felt unique and fresh to the genre.

I adored Morvoren and Trevik. They had chemistry from the get go and the development was solid. Learning to build the trust between them as things piled against their favor. No ridiculous conflict to be found, but one that fit the actual premise of the entire story. I love a good reveal at the end, and Trevik showing Morvoren just how free she was, was absolutely precious.

Hathaway is one of my favorite regency authors and I love the way she tells stories!

Overall audience notes:
- Regency romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: near drowning, loss of parents (off page, but discussed), manipulative caregiver

I could almost smell the sea and feel the ocean breeze upon my face as I began reading this book set in a small fishing village of Cornwall. With the dramatic opening of Moroven Hollow nearly drowning from being entangled in the net of Trevik Honeysett’s crew, I was caught (pun untended) up in this story.

The enemies-to-lovers trope was well written as both Moroven and Trevik work through mistrust, superstition, secrets, and heartbreak. Trevik was more than just a fisherman, showing Moroven that forgiveness and love were possible. I loved that he was able to thwart her greedy and horrible uncle.

The secondary characters of Mrs. Honeysett and Poppy added depth to the story. I loved how Mrs. Honeysett took Moroven into her home and accepted her as one of her own from the beginning. I hoped things would work out for Moroven just so she could stay with her and Trevik's chatty, bubbly sister, Poppy. It was great to see how Mrs. Honeysett helped Trevik with the plan to gain Moroven’s freedom.

The stories of the mermaids as well as the songs the villagers and fisherman sang added to feeling a part of the story. I could hear the men singing songs and Moroven joining in with them as the sat around the campfire. I have never read a story set in Cornwall that went into such detail about a fisherman’s life like Ms. Hathaway did with her book. I was so happy to read her notes about her research and facts she included in the book. She even wrote some of the lyrics to the songs that were sung! This added depth to the story and even more admiration for her talent as a writer.

This is book 4 in A Cornish Romance series, but it can be read as a standalone. I haven't read the other books, but I certainly will be! I was given a complimentary copy of the book. I was not required to write a positive review; all opinions are my own.

You guys!! Oh my goodness gracious!!!! This book was absolutely adorable! Deborah’s regency novels are so different that they stand out in a way you’ll always remember. Plus, Deborah is the Cornwall queen. Pretty sure if anyone mentions Cornwall, we automatically think of her books. 😂 Interesting side note: my husband was born in Cornwall. He tells me it’s beautiful. We have yet to visit, though. It’ll happen eventually. 🤞🏻

I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers romances and this had the perfect amount of tension without the animosity that I’m not a fan on. And Trevick. Oh my heart. He is a dream. 😍 He took a second to grow on me but once you see his side of things, you can’t help but love him. Morvoren and Trevick are super cute together.

If any of you are looking for a sweet romance that’s great in a series but can also be read alone, this is it. I’m looking forward to Poppy’s story even more now in Deborah’s next book, From the Fields of Porthlenn. It comes out at the end of August. 🙌🙌

Five stars, re-readable…what more do I need to say. These last two books in this series have swept me away to Cornwall and I’m not sure I ever want to come back. I loved the mermaid/sea-maid incorporation to this story and make sure you read the Author’s notes at the back of the book. Fascinating!! I was so immersed in this story that I didn’t want it to end, then I needed to know how it ended, then it ended and I was sad it was over lol. I will be re-reading this one over and over and over! Absolute perfection!

Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Deborah Hathaway has delivered another enchanting Cornish story with In the Waves of Tristwick, one readers won’t want to miss. I have greatly enjoyed this series, and I loved getting to learn more about fishing in Cornwall. It was also fun to see past characters whose stories I have enjoyed, as well as get a glimpse at the next book in the series. 4/5 stars

5 stars regency

I want to write something profound, something that could be quoted…. But I just keep thinking, “awwww”

I love the sweet regency romances that are being written more and more, but In the Waves of Tristwick was so different. I loved that there were superstitions that drove parts of the story. I loved the side characters, Poppy is stinkin’ adorable. I loved the enemies to lovers trope. Deborah delivered this story with such finesse that I am now wondering what more I can read of hers. I love the research she has done, you can tell she spent a great deal of time learning more about the sea professions and the culture of that time. And the romance between our main characters is beautiful. Which is why I keep wanting to “awww”

Definitely a 5 star regency for me. I don’t have any thing to criticize about it. It is an adorable story with fun historical threads woven in. Which is just how I like my historical romances.

There is no such thing as mermaids. That is the message that Trevik Honeysett tries to relay to the superstitious people of his small town. When you pull out a maiden from your fishing net, it is easy to understand why they believed she was a siren from the sea.

This is a novel full of humor that is set in a beautiful place by the sea. I really wish that I could visit. I have grown to love the people of the mining town as I have read the books previous to this one.

I give it my full recommendation.

Deborah is a consistently good author for me. I pick up a book she has written and know I'm going to like it. Even still, with my little Deborah pedestal, In the Waves of Tristwick blew me out of the water.
Trevik decides to bend the laws by directing his crew to pull in one more haul for the night. Instead of hundreds of fish, they bring up a mermaid. Morvoren has too many secrets and a convenient memory loss. With a town divided, Trevik attempts to keep his home life and crew at peace.
The romance is beyond sweet and the steady build completely engaging. I adored the setting, full cast of characters, and what, for me, is a unique background for a regency novel. Can I pretty please have a hunky fisherman that smells like lemons in my next life??
This can be read easily as a standalone despite it's position as fourth in the series. I'm thrilled that Poppy will be in book 5 and I would like it in my hands as of yesterday. I guess I'll have to wait impatiently though.
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Deborah Hathaway has jumped right into being one of my favorite authors. She has such rich descriptive detailing and wonderful stories. You can tell she has done her research! I love this series and the way it is all in Cornwall but we get to learn about a different aspect in each book—from high society to mining, fishing, and lighthouses. Sweet romance with character growth and great side characters.

This book made me cry multiple times, it was just so tender, especially towards the end. The way that the Honeysetts take care of and love Morvoren was so sweet and good. I loved watching Morvoren and Trevik progress from wary strangers to friends to lovers. This book made me very happy ❤️

Another brilliant story in this Cornish romance series! I love the way I am totally immersed in the setting and language while still being able to understand it. While being a regency romance I loved the ties to mermaid legends and superstitions. I felt for Morvoren and loved her character. Trevik frustrated me sometimes but he made up for it. I adored his family and despised Morvoren’s Uncle. This was a sweet story with plenty of danger, tender moments, and all emotions.

On an Instagram page a short time ago, in the waves far away, lived a grown woman who drools for a shirtless man with broad shoulders and divine, sculpted chest. Thus this post and thus this fine review of sincere admiration. (Listen my husband is the only man in my life who completes me but y'all *imagine the Will Smith gif posing in front of this fine asset*)

Ok, ok now that I have gushed about a marvelous moment from this book, let me pull you in some more. Get your reading ears on!!!!

Momma Deborah, darling dear, I kind of feel that you are a life's treasure and that you need bodyguards, because girl, you're a queen of this scenery and genre. It's like you knew I needed this fun, refreshing, awestruck story. For reelz yo.

Even grown women need to be mermaids now and again but the way you weaved it into the story was masterful. I literally want to jump through my screen and admire you when you come up with these ideas. Genius.

Moroven and Trevick are so generous with their untrust- to- lovers that I may have melted like butter on a hot roll.

Add in the side characters!!!! *Muah* Beautiful.

Ugh, I probably should join a book club or something to talk about this book at novel length... Oh wait I did. The Lady's Literary Society, I may be about to hurt your ears. Hopefully you'll love me tomorrow 😂

If you can't tell I looooovvveee this book you might need to get your eyes checked. These opinions are 100% my own. Thank you to Deborah Hathaway for a #gifted copy.

Book 4 of Deborah’s Cornwall series was a much anticipated read which did not disappoint. What makes this a five star read for me? Let me break it down:

Romantic? All the feels?
First, swim scenes. Yes. Give me that mermaid/fisherman trope! Second, love songs? You better believe this story is serving us the mermaid legend done right! If that’s not enough to convince you: Trevik, a serious working man, leading the fishing community with his loyal crew catches a beautiful morvoren in his net. Soon rumors start that she is a mermaid who will bring noting but bad luck to the town if she does not leave. What’s not to love about that set-up? The relationship between the two was gradual and nicely done as they overcome suspensions and prejudices on both sides. It was good to see a mature relationship form between them, not something that comes from a few chance meetings. The chemistry was there and enjoyable to watch grow. Heartbreaking to watch fall apart, and grateful that Hathaway loves her characters and readers enough to give us a happy ending.

Entertaining? Good use of my time?
I read this book in one setting, could not get enough.

Satisfying ending? All loose ties explained?

Yes! I loved the ending. Sweet and realistic (and no spoilers but clue there’s water involved) way to conclude.
Trevik and morvoren! Loved them! Hathaway also sets the stage for the final in the series and i could not be more ready to read poppy and Edmunds story.

Would I read again? Recommend?

Yes, and yes, preferably on the beach. Though I would read them all in order just to get the whole Cornwall experience.

Plot development

The romance between trevik and morvoren developed admit supersistions, preduijuces, and the beautiful sea. Past injustices and the responsibility of keeping together a fishing community weight heavily on Treviks shoulders. Morvoren’s family life was terrible, and her reasons for disliking fishermen were well founded though misplaced. These factors drive the plot forward as these two fall in love despite the odds against them. Also, secondary characters like poppy and Edmund, as well as other favorites from previous books are mentioned and set the stage for the final book. So excited!!!

Quality of writing

Hathaway does an amazing job weaving together romance, drama, and angst. Great bits of historical information are sprinkled throughout the novel, bringing in a realistic tone to the lives of the characters. The fact that the accents were written in brought dimension to the characters and didn’t take away from the story, but was enjoyable to read.

A unique and memorable regency romance

With her newest addition in the Cornish Romance series, Deborah Hathaway has written yet another wonderful story! I absolutely adore that while this is a historic romance, the writing style is so engaging and does not feel like you need to struggle through reading it. The character and world building really sucks a reader into Cornwall and the lives of its inhabitants. This is true of the entire series and not just In the Waves of Tristwick. While this is part of a series, you can read this story as a standalone. However, I binge read the entire series, starting with the novella, before reading this one and I do not regret that at all. So if you need someone to just tell you to read the whole series first, here’s your encouragement!

While out fishing with his crew, Trevik pulls a woman up from the sea who was caught in his net. In 1800s Cornwall, some of the men of his crew are quite superstitious and fear this woman be a sea-maid, a mermaid, who will call down a storm to destroy them all. But Morvoren isn’t actually a sea-maid is she? Or is she simply a woman with secrets? A lot of them? Morvoren’s supposed memory loss wreaks a lot of havoc for Trevik as his crew become distrustful of him and wants nothing more than for her to leave. Morvoren very much wants to get away from these fishermen but initially injuries from being caught in the net make that difficult. Moreover, she is trying to run from a life she does not want.

I loved the fieriness of Trevik and Morvoren’s initial relationship. He does not trust her. She is keeping many, many secrets. This causes a lot of tension between them. However, time does certainly help to mend the distrust on both sides. Both begin to open up. Until Trevik tries to save his crew at the expense of his feelings for Morvoren. At one point, I wanted nothing more than to slap him silly! Which I think is great writing on the part of the author because he was making me just so made. But, as with all good romances, there is a turning point where all becomes well again. There were some great twists that I was able to figure out but still made for exciting and dramatic reading!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am leaving an honest and voluntary review.

Do you have an auto-read historical author? One of mine is the lovely @authordeborahmhathaway ! I have only read three of hers but after reading this gem, I plan to read all of her Cornwall books!

In the Waves of Tristwick is a historical romance set in a small town in Cornwall. A story of love and finding where you truly belong. Trevik Honeysett is a noble fisherman, loyal to his family and the small town of Tristwick. On one of his daily fishing excursions, what he least expects is to see a beautiful maiden caught in his nets. Rumors spread throughout the town that Trevik has caught himself a seamaid- a woman with a hidden past, and secrets he is determined to discover.

This story was so beautifully written. Deborah has written a lovely depiction of the working class society and this small Cornwall town. Her history and research definitely shows, especially in the little details. I loved getting to know the coastal community of Tristwick, the ocean, swimming, and fishing! I even enjoyed getting a glimpse into a Cornwall fisherman’s lifestyle. The “mermaid” piece was so unique and interwoven perfectly. Let me tell you, I did not expect to read a historical romance about mermaids and sirens of the sea! So fun to read!

Trevik is a strong, hard-working, selfless, swoony hunk of a man. And for some reason, Moroven seems to be a little spitfire around him. I love the chemistry, the arguments, the flirting, and the swoony moments. Moroven has a great character arc with a lot of growth, finding where your heart lies, finding home. It’s a beautiful romance.

For those historical fiction lovers out there, this book is for you. As for me, take me back to Cornwall. I plan to stay there for a while.

Deborah Hathaway has done it again! I've been so excited to read In the Waves Of Tristwick and it did not disappoint! I loved this enemies to lovers story! It kept me laughing throughout the whole thing since the FMC (female main character), Morvoren gets caught in Trevik's fishing net and twists her ankle. Trevik's family allows her to stay with them until her injury is healed. Everyone besides Trevik's mother and sister, Poppy, is untrusting of her from the beginning and accuses her of being a mermaid. The fact that she tries to hide who she is doesn't help much.

The setting of this book was so perfect and Deborah does an amazing job with character developments! The imagery was spot on and really immersed me into the story. I love when a book keeps you invested and transports you!

The flirting and chemistry between Morvoren and Trevik was some of the best I've read in a book!🔥Although, I did want to throttle Trevik at times! Infuriating man! 😤

As I've been reading this series, I've enjoyed how much of Deborah's love for Cornwall is evident in the way she brings these stories to life.

One of my favorite parts is when Morvoren attempts to make Cornish pasties. That whole scene was so good!! 🔥🤣😍 Oh my heck, and the Poldark scene! So good! The author chose the right man in picking Aiden Turner (Ross Poldark) for her character inspiration of Trevik! I could easily hear the accents in this book thanks to Poldark! I definitely recommend you immerse yourself in this Cornish Romance series by Deborah! She has definitely become an auto buy author for me!

I can't wait for Poppy to get her story next in book 5, From the Fields of Porthlenn! I loved how enjoyable her character was in this book!

I can't wait to read the other books in this series!

Is it Cornwall itself, the sea or maybe the fact that some fishermen in the story believe that the woman they pull out of the waters is a mermaid, or is it just that Deborah M Hathaway is a master at creating the almost mythical magic that lingers over this story? It is probably a combination of them all.
If the woman is a mermaid that is indeed a bad thing, for they are believed to put curses on the people. Trevik Honeysett, the captain of the fishing boat that catches the unknown, strikingly beautiful woman in it's nets, do not believe in mermaids, but her magic on him is nonetheless as strong.
But Morvore Hollow is on the run, and the last thing she needs is someone paying her any attention. The injury she obtained makes her ability to disappear again impossible and the goodness of the Honeysett family makes it also emotionally hard to leave them, but above all she needs to stay away from her evil uncle's grip and the marriage he has decided for her, even if it breaks her heart.
This whole Cornish Romance series is full of heart and interesting characters and if you haven't read it yet I highly recommend that you do!

Deborah has done it again! This book is simply *chef's kiss.

This is perhaps the most unique regency romance I have ever read. The writing completely immersed me in the tiny sea hamlet of Tristwick and the story as Trevik, a fisherman, finds an unlikely catch in his nets. Morvoren never thought to be mistaken for a mermaid but she has bigger concerns...such as escaping a future she cannot abide.

Trevik and Morvoren's relationship grows slow but steady and their flirty banter was absolutely marvelous. Who knew Cornish fishermen could be so clueless and yet so romantic at the same time? The recreation of a famous scene from Poldark had me simultaneously laughing out loud and swooning.

It is hard to capture in words just how fantastic this book is. You are just going to have to trust me on this one. Read it. Enjoy it. Swoon over it. And then go binge read the rest of the series because they are all utterly fantastic!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

I have not read the other books in this series, but if they are as lol like this one then I cannot wait to read them. Deborah’s use of writing abs language ‘ave ye immersed in o’ split second. (IYKYK) which made for a bit of hard reading at first, but gave the story so much life and authenticity.

Morvoren was mistaken as a mermaid/sea-maid and was believed to be bringing havoc on the small cove of Tristwick. But really she was escaping a bigger evil. Her uncle. Who would have guessed that the life she never wanted may just be the best life of all?

And Trevik, what can I say except he’s a hard worker and extremely devoted to family. We all need a Trevik in our lives.

Well, shoot. This might be my very favorite of Deborah's books ever. The setting, the characters, the slowly growing romance, the conflict, the ending. I smiled, I cried, I reread my favorite passages. The story of a fisherman who pulls a mermaid from the sea and all that follows is what my dreams were made of as a little girl. And now I need to plan a trip to Cornwall, ASAP.

Thank you to the author for my advanced copy of this book. All opinions here are my own.

Trevik Honeysett and his crew are busy finishing their usual evening fishing trip when they discover a young woman caught in their nets. They rescue her and Trevik takes her to his mother’s home in the small Cornish village of Tristwick. With the help of his mother and younger sister, they nurse her back to health. The young lady says her name is Morvoren and it becomes clear that either she has lost some of her memories or has secrets she’s not willing to reveal. Some members of Trevik’s crew are concerned that the mysterious girl is really a mermaid that they are quite leery of.

The Honeysett family is happy to have Morvoren live with them and help with the house and also the villager’s duty of preparing the fish caught for winter storage. Slowly Morvoren reveals the reason for her escape from her notorious uncle’s evil clutches. He is forcing her to marry with only his selfish financial gain at stake.

I liked the story but must say that it was quite a while before the plot thickened to be interesting. The plot hit its climax during the last part of the book and that was worth the long buildup. I do like author Deborah Hathaway’s stories, especially because they take place in a part of England I have visited and thoroughly enjoyed. I really like the background commentary in ‘Author’s Note’. I applaud Deborah Hathaway’s efforts of detailed research and the in-person experiences. I’ve been to England many times and love it as she does, not to mention the hundreds of Regency books I’ve read, and shows I’ve watched. I love it when I learn something new and Hathaway always adds to my knowledge!

In going over the previous books in this Cornish series, I’ve given 3, 4, & 5 stars. ‘For the Lady of Lowena’, #2, has been my favorite. If another is coming, I will read it!

This is book four in the Cornish Romance series and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot!

A woman caught up in the nets of a fishing boat… Or is she a mermaid? I’m hooked! (No pun intended lol). This was a nice way to include/touch on local superstitions. The song of the siren and the beauty of the sea maid. As she wreaks havoc upon the cove. It was nicely weaved into the story.

I enjoyed learning about the Cornish fishing industry at the time as well. Battle between the drifters and the seiners. The laws and consequences of certain actions. You can tell there was a lot of research into the history and background surrounding the story which makes it all the more enjoyable.

And of course we can’t forget the actual ROMANCE. I absolutely loved Trevik! A handsome fisherman that can carry you up a cliff side and smells like lemons? Yes please! 😂 Add to it the fact that he is fiercely loyal, incredibly hardworking, and generous. Morvoren has endured so much mistreatment from her uncle but still manages to stay strong and do what she can to help the family out. She’s a feisty one! They made a great pair… once both parties set aside their pride and honestly communicated with each other.

I loved all of the supporting characters as well! Mrs Honeysett, Poppy, Gryff, even horrible man Edern with his suspicious, superstitions ways lol. They all helped to make up the great community of Tristwick.

This story was very enjoyable to read (with a great epilogue!) and I can’t WAIT for Poppy and Lieutenant Harris’ story next!

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
