Meadow Street Brothers #5

A Second Chance for the Firefighter

Rate this book
Firefighter. Ex-spy. Godfather of way too many kids.
But the one man Nate wants, he can't have.
What makes a man happy? Firefighter Nate Fielding has everything: a great team, a beautiful house, a street of neighbors he calls his Brothers. But for the past eight years, he's struggled to fill the gaping hole in his heart.

A lifetime ago, he had a partner. Taylor was the best friend he could ask for, the one agent he trusted with his life. Except he messed up. And Taylor fled, shattering their two-man team.

These days, Nate gets by babysitting his friends' children, daydreaming about a plus-one to take to his Brother Phinny's wedding. When Taylor shows up with a private job he can't complete alone, Nate can't resist.

He's still hopelessly in love. He's still the only alpha Taylor trusts.

Taylor's mission involves too much intimacy, though. It makes the sparks between them turn into an inferno. And even though Nate's a firefighter, this is one flame he can't bear to put out.

They won't get burnt this time... or will they?

Warning: While Nate's book involves two weddings and a babysitting prank with 13 children, it also contains various kinds of fake abuse for the sake of a rescue mission. If these are your triggers, please be careful when reading!
P.S. The fake abuse is also why there is a LOT of aftercare going on in this book.

79k words, non-shifter MPreg romance. All Meadowfall books can be read out-of-order!

Yay I've found Closure from the 'Closure' Chapter in Boss Daddy's Knots!

I enjoyed this one!
- Spy-fi Omegaverse
- Murder husbands
- Noncon scenes with beautiful aftercare
- lots of broke omega vibes while also being the strongest omega around!
- nurturing alpha vibes (and although Nate was in theory too perfect I still bought it)
- second chance that I enjoyed
- Caleb and Izzy (I can't wait and simultaneously don't want them to have an angst filled book :( Can it just be a novella of them going on dates? Knotting and Nesting? And it all being lovely when we get their story? :'))
- how much they love being partners
- Me being happy that lil murderous omega

What I don't understand:

Some quotes
How sad was it to attend a wedding, sitting next to your ex? Knowing you still needed to see him smile?" (p. 24)

"Something about this intimacy–instead of covering up the cracks in Taylor's soul, it yanked them to the forefront, jagged, ugly things that Taylor tried to ignore. He wanted to be infallible. He wanted to be so strong that no one could hurt him again. He wanted to be... cherished. Loved. He wanted someone to think he was beautiful." (p. 86)

"You're literally talking to murder husbands," Yvee whispered loudly.
"We're not husbands," Taylor said.
"Yet," Nate corrected.
Oh fuck. Taylor's heart stumbled.
(p.255)

NSFW infos:
Two 46-year-olds (in a world where this is more like late twenties/early thirties because they get older and 70 is the end of middle-age? I think.)
Strict top/bottom
Forced Heat
Consensual non-consent
Face slapping
Public sex
Knotting
Pissing into the other's hand during aftercare
Biting and marking

Nicknames:
Taylor -> Tay ("That old nickname sent a shiver down Taylor's spine" (p. 48))

NATE GETS HIS OMEGA

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.

Nate Fielding has pined for Taylor Henry for eight years. They are reunited in a quest to save Blaze’s younger brother, Murphy. Taylor can’t do it alone and Phinny makes sure that he has Nate’s help.

This story is full of wonderful pranks, learning to deal with your past, true confessions, and a darker side of humanity. The way Anna portrays these characters makes the reader want to weep and join in on the goings on in Meadowfall. An absolutely fantastic story!

This was a much grittier darker and intense read in parts due to the "mission " part of the story and the author dealt with it brilliantly, and I greatly appreciated that aspect. It was so real like, that I had to stop reading and regroup a few times, but I felt drawn back to it and needed more. This one starts out at a fast trot with the prank and goes full throttle with laughs, drama, and steam to the very last word!! I had to reread it because it was that good!!! I hope Murphy gets a book next. I loved it.

Second Chance for the Firefighter by Anna Wineheart is part of the Meadow Street Brothers series.  This is a second chance romance with suspense, under-cover investigations, action, steam and a surprise mpreg.  And it is Amazing!  I loved the connection between these characters and found myself smiling and happy reading this story.

I’m a sucker for second chances and this does not disappoint. While this is a bit darker than Ms. Wineheart’s previous stories, there is still plenty of humor, a few pranks to keep the story from being too dark. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this book as well from suspense, action, and of course romance. Definitely a book worth reading.

Not gonna lie...

This took me forever to finish. It wasn't until they saved Murphy that it got interesting.

I think it was because I didn't connect to Taylor. I loved Nate though.

I did giggle at the mention of all the food porn each couple from the last two series were into.

I was thrilled to read the story about Nate Fielding and Taylor, Nate’s ex-partner. And as always with Anna Wineheart’s books and this series, this book was superb!

Nate’s a great guy; he’s an ex-spy, a firefighter, and godfather to many of his “Brother’s on his street. Nate was the ex-spy that helped Jesse escape from his hideous torture environment (which is in an earlier book in the series) along with his ex-partner, Taylor.

Now Taylor has been hired for another mission…finding Blazes younger brother, Murphy who had been kidnapped a few years prior. Blaze's new husband, Phinney is footing the bill. It’s a dangerous mission for a lone omega who has to be among violent, blood & sex thirsty Alpha’s. But that is where Murphy had been located, a bar that includes trafficking omegas.

Once Nate found out the dangerousness and seriousness Taylor would be in on this mission, he offered to go with Taylor as his Alpha, but Taylor had a big bad secret involving his past Alpha; he kept refusing Nate’s help. Taylor had broken Nate’s heart eight years ago and he has been hurting ever since. But he continued to hope he could win Taylor back.

Finally, Taylor accepts Nate’s offer (with a big push from Phinney). Nate would juggle his fireman’s job along with the mission. Taylor would need time to heal anyway. Then they go undercover to the worst know trafficking bar, a bar where angry, aggressive, sexually abusive Alphas with no emotions except hate, assaulted these omega’s until they are submissive.

Now Nate needs to be extremely rough and sexually abusive with Taylor in order to be accepted into the leader’s circle of Alpha’s. Taylor protested and yelled “No” many times, he had to be brutalized by his Alpha (Nate) for it to look real. But at the end of each encounter in that bar, Nate took Taylor back to their motel room and debriefed him.

Nate’s debriefing was beautiful with tenderness as he worshipped Taylor’s body…something Taylor had never had from his previous Alpha. Taylor endures these meetings with Nate with their plan in mind and as much as it broke Nate’s heart to treat his omega in an abusive way, they kept going back until the night they could save Murphy and the other omegas.

With the closeness that Nate and Taylor had begun to grow into a budding romantic relationship…a beautiful relationship where Taylor’s walls started to break down. Enough that Taylor told Nate his past secret about his Alpha, but Taylor continues being nasty and still rejected Nate until Taylor could open his heart and take a chance on the man he loved. Nate would never give up.

The book has its light side with his Brother’s on the street playing pranks on Nate and that even Taylor got involved. The book is well-written and I never found a dull moment, with plenty of action, sexy times, and extreme danger. If you haven’t read this series, this is a must-read. I highly recommend it!

**4.5 Stars

Don't be fooled by the sweet beautiful cover on this book because the story is anything but until pretty much the end, then the sweetness comes. There is a warning on the copyright page with a list of what might be triggers so if reading about abuse and non-consensual assault, torture and a few other things (none of it is real but knowing that didn't make it any easier to read it felt real) this isn't a story for you. BE WARNED!

The story is dark. Like really dark and extremely violent. I struggled reading a lot of it. It made me feel really uncomfortable in places and of course that made me ugly cry. For that reason I have to say I'm very surprised at how much I liked this instalment to the series though. This type of violent story hasn't been my thing to read for a while but the author did a great job. It did help that Nate and Taylor were perfect for each other and their love and connection really shows through. Like the previous books there was a lot of sex but at least with most of it I get why, it's there for a purpose. Knowing there was a purpose didn't make it any easier to read those parts but Nate and Taylor are so good together and they got their HEA plus it looks like Murphy is going to get a new start. I hope to see more of him, maybe a book of his own? Murphy and Shaw sound like an interesting pairing.

TAGS
-- non shifter mpreg -- alpha/omega -- dark and violent-- lots of drama -- working undercover -- sex trafficking ring (among other things) -- ex partners team up -- second chance -- some extremely uncomfortable scenes -- fake abuse/domestic violence (all consensual) -- murder -- omega slaves -- weirdly enough some really sweet moments -- parts that made me laugh -- parts that made me ugly cry -- LOVED the MCs... Nate & Taylor -- mature couple -- really sweet HEA -- NOT A STAND ALONE (none of the books in this series are IMO)

A Second Chance With a Firefighter is Nate's chance to get his HEA with Taylor, his ex partner (work and romance) that he still cares for. His Meadowfall Brothers get in on the action of trying to get them together, especially Phinny with some funny and heated results. What brings them closer, though, is working to rescue Blaze's brother, Murphy, from a group of sex traffickers.
This gets a little bit touch and go with the roles they have to play in order to infiltrate the group. They play a non con relationship which, while both know it's an act, it doesn't stop it from hurting in the moment. Taylor especially is hurting from a previous relationship ending very badly and suffers with guilt and a really low self worth. Nate has no trouble in telling the omega how beautiful and strong he thinks he is but it is actions more than words that show Taylor best.
This for me was a slow burn, hurt/comfort romance with a strong dose of drama when it comes to their undercover work. Both men are extremely strong and have lived through a lot but there's a lot of comfort to be had/provided by someone who cares about you. It's something Taylor is in desperate need of and an aspect that Nate really needs to provide.
This is definitely hard to read in places and I highly recommend reading the trigger warnings. This story can be read as a standalone but with such a great friendship group involved across the series, I'd say to read them in order.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

After starting this book, I was afraid that I was going to end up leaving a DNF, or poor review for the simple reason that I had no patience for Taylor. He was forced to make a really crappy choice that impacted his life. Over the next 20 years, he never got any kind of perspective about why that choice was forced on him, or what he might be able to learn from that situation. Instead, he was indecisive and overreacted when his indecision led to Nate having feelings for him. The only thing that I agreed with Taylor about for about the first 30% of this book was that Nate was too good for him.

The one reason that I had for slugging through Taylor's self-important whining was that I really have liked Nate's character in this series, and I know that the author wouldn't give him such a horrible partner without any redeeming qualities.

When Nate and Taylor put their plan into motion to save Murphy, this book went from merely ok, to awesome. I loved how well they worked together, and knew and trusted each other. I loved how decisively they took down the bad guys and saved the omegas that had been trafficked. Ultimately, the chemistry between Nate and Taylor was amazing and Nate's respect for his omega shone through in every action that he made. My hopes for Nate were fully realized by the end of this story, and I am happy that I persevered.

Two men with a past that cannot be forgotten and a future that hangs in the balance because of that past. Nate and Taylor used to work together but one mission ended it all even their friendship suffered. All these years later when Taylor needs help Nate is more than ready to be his partner again. Nate is going to prove to Taylor how much he is worth, and that Nate is the man that he can trust.

This book is full of emotion and depth. Taylor has accepted a mission that puts not only his physical safety on the line but also his mental stability. Nate will not let him go it alone and as his partner he must make sure Taylor is safe all around. Having never given up on what they once had Nate is more than ready to show Taylor what they could have. I loved the interaction between Taylor and Nate. Taylor is stronger than he gives himself credit for and Nate is determined to prove Taylor wrong. The two make a good couple and I enjoyed watching them reconnect. It was also fun to see past characters make appearances and I could not help but chuckle at all the food references. Their story is a beautiful read about how strong love can be. It moves at a good pace and pulled me in right from the start, keeping me engrossed in the story all the way to the end, never giving me a dull moment.

Nate and Taylor were former partners and lovers who ended things on an unhappy note. Eight years later, the two came together to mount a rescue mission for their friend Blaze's brother Murphy, a victim of human trafficking. The undercover scenes, where Nate had to abuse Taylor to gain the evil trafficking leader's trust, were difficult to read. Fortunately, Nate was insistent that Taylor let him pamper him after each instance, to show how much he really cared for Taylor. Meanwhile, Taylor was unable to shake demons from the alpha who had betrayed him before he met Nate, a betrayal that had forced Taylor into an unbearable choice. Taylor didn't believe he would ever deserve happiness, and he continuously pushed Nate away.
This was a good story, engrossing and exciting. I liked Nate from the beginning, and I grew to care for Taylor as well. The undercover op was scary, and my heart broke for Murphy and the other trapped omegas. The romance was hard fought and satisfying. I've enjoyed all the books in this series, and I think this was a great addition. I look forward to revisiting these characters, as well as seeing Murphy find the happiness he deserves in the future.

This was a solid addition to the Meadowfall world. We got the long-awaited book about Nate and his romance with his former partner, Taylor. This was truly a unique addition. Nate and Taylor team up to rescue an omega and break up a ring of omega traffickers. They go undercover, and those scenes are pretty intense. I was on the edge of my seat by the end when it came to action scenes. However, the rest of the novel actually moved too slowly for me. I got impatient with Taylor— sure, he had trauma to work through, but at a certain point I wanted him to stop playing hot and cold with Nate. I love Phinny and his desire to set the two of them up, but sometimes the pranks seemed over the line. Overall, the book was good, and regardless of its flaws, come on, it’s Nate. You have to read his romance on principle alone.
I really want to read Murphy’s book and find out what’s going on with him and his brother’s older work friend... *grabby hands* sounds yummy

Nate and Taylor have history. It's been 8 years since they've had much to do with each other, but that doesn't mean that they both don't still have feels for each other.

It almost looks like Nate has moved on, but then you actually look in his head, and realise that he is really lonely. I like how he has become friends with all the Meadow Street guys and how close they all are.

I don't think that Taylor actually likes himself one little bit. I mean, you see it in some of his actions, but it definitely comes through in the way he talks about himself. I hurt so much for him, because he totally deserves to be so happy.

And? Phinny is totally a menace.

Murder Husbands

Oh my god, this book was so good and hot and mind blowing! I’ve only read one other books in this series but I still thoroughly enjoyed Nate and Taylor’s story! Taylor is a hard cut omega that needs to be reminded of his self worth. Nate has been scorned a couple times but he is willing to give Taylor a few more chances! They partner together to stop a slave trade ring-you must read to find out if they manage to stop the ring or not! There is an hea with many steamy scenes along the way! This book is a must read for any fan of omegaverse, mpreg, growly alphas, stubborn omegas, a second chance, and a true fight for an hea!

This was a good read and delivered the emotions in buckets. It's a lot of hurt/comfort and plenty of aftercare which was nice to see. I enjoyed taylor and nate, each had their vulnerabilities and each stepped up to the plate to be their for the other. The intrigue of finding a person and rescuing them added tension and drama. I love this little dynamic of friends, it just makes it so lovely to see the interaction and pranks. Definitely worth a read, with a mixture of emotion, drama and love/friendships.
I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion.

I loved a Second Chance for the Firefighter. It's the fifth book in the Meadow Street Brothers series. This book is grittier and has more drama than the other books in the series, but it still has lots of chemistry, hot scenes, and an alpha waiting for his omega to get his head on straight and believe that he is worthy of being loved. I loved Nate and Taylor.

5/5 stars! I was definitely not disappointed by the newest installation to the Meadow Street Brothers series! I absolutely loved Taylor and Nate’s story! There were many non-con scenes while they were undercover, but you could still feel how much Nate cared about Taylor in those scenes. I highly recommend reading the series as to better understand the goings on around their story. The series is absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend all of Anna’s books.

Nate and Taylor is perfect

I was so waiting for this book and Taylor disappointed me a little. I wish he got over himself a bit sooner! But the book was on point. And the scenes were the non con (fake) happened I was like holy banana this is intense and I am glad it's fake but felt really realist. The aftercare was so sweet though! Gah! This book was the angstier of them all do far! The ending though well deserved ending! Nate is life!

An alpha worth waiting for...

Even though it's Nate who's waited for his ex-partner, Taylor, to let down his guard and realize Nate is an alpha he can trust with more than just his life, it's Nate who has been worth the wait. The way he loves, supports and is 100% in lust with everything Taylor is, makes him a book boyfriend you will NEVER forget. The way he loves his omega is what makes Nate the greatest hero in Meadowfalls.

I love the men of Meadow Street. This series is full of broken alphas and omegas who find their missing halves. I connected emotionally more with these characters because of their age and experience. I loved them—Taylor's quirks of weapon placement and Nate's eternal love and devotion.

Nate and Taylor get their happily ever after! This book was full of fun, heart, action, and of course all the heat you expect from Anna Wineheart. Taylor and Nate definitely didn't have it easy during the rescue mission parts. The pranks were hilarious and it was fun to catch up with the firefighters and the Brothers.

We finally get Nate and Tays story ( well the HEA) for their story. This is the final book in the series as far as I am aware but am hoping there will be spin offs.

I enjoyed the drama, suspense and seeing Taylor settle into being Nates mate.

Nate is one Alpha an Omega can only dream of, except if you're Taylor, of course. It's amazing how Nate was portrayed as an Alpha; we definitely need more Nates! I'm glad they got their HEA. Definitely looking forward to the new series, and I wish you and your family good health!
