How did I forget the worst thing that’s ever happened to me? And how do I try and put it right?
The first time I remembered, I thought I was dying. I couldn’t breathe – something was crushing my chest – all I could see was darkness. A terrible fear, pulling me under. And all because of a glimpse of a face I hadn’t seen in years.
Since then I’ve realised: this is a memory of an attack. Something vicious happened to me years ago – a night that changed my life, without me even knowing. My family and friends don’t believe me – they say I’m imagining things, but I know I’m right. What I don’t know is who was responsible. And I won’t stop until I find out.
Wherever the truth leads me. Whatever betrayals are uncovered. Whatever the risk.
A heart-stopping psychological suspense novel that asks: who do you trust the most? Your friends? Your family? Or your own mind? Fans of T.M. Logan, Claire McGowan and Lisa Jewell will be gripped by Close My Eyes.
This is a good suspense story which moves smoothly, has very good character development and is very focused on the storyline and central characters.
Beth sees two people from her childhood which immediately triggers panic reactions. It is not clear if these are based on paranoia & fears or based on real suppressed experiences. Her sister Laura and her dad Tim are a source of support. Gemma is a friend and is married to Guy, who Beth & Laura have known since they were children. Gemma has problems of her own with Guy being very career focused and ambitious. Beth seek medical help and it looks like some repressed pains from the past will surface.
The strong characters of - Beth, Laura and Gemma are a delight to follow and the book is very well written. Around half way through the book, I did sense an inkling of where this was heading. I liked the fact that the story was very honest without introducing unrealistic twists. The book is a slow burner with revelations turning up gradually, but yet is easy to read.
Recommended if you like the genre.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a free electronic review copy.
This book was such a surprise. The beginning was a little slow but well worth the wait. This is a slow burn mystery dealing with trauma and the fallout of suppressed memories. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and was satisfied with the conclusion. This is my second book to read by Beverley Harvey and it didn’t disappoint. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this author. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Close My Eyes is a gripping psychological thriller about the part your senses play in bringing back memories you have long since forgotten. 13-year-old Beth Harding had been attending her sister Laura's sixteenth birthday party, where all the guests were in fancy dress, when she had been the subject of a disturbing incident that occurred behind the family's leylandii hedge. However, she doesn't remember much of it or that entire year due to a mysterious illness that wiped out her memory. Fast forward 26 years, Beth is now 39-years-old, single and working as a public relations officer of a small mental health charity. She is a commitment-phobe, which worries both her family and friends and it is clear that Alex, the guy she has been sleeping with for the past six months, would like the relationship to go somewhere but once again this has Beth backing off despite really liking him. He wants more and she simply cannot give it to him, and eventually, they split up. Sisters Laura and Beth head out one night for drinks at the Ship Inn in Beckenham, a pub they haven't visited for twenty years, and are sitting chatting when two guys walk in. Suddenly, Beth is frozen in fear and begins to have a panic attack. The two men are The Binks Twins - Kevin and Billy - who used to live at the end of their street when they were young. Laura even dated Billy for a while. With the colour having drained from her face and the breathlessness and trembling she was displaying, Laura guides Beth out of the pub and they walk home. Beth has no idea why the twins' presence had caused such a reaction. When she reaches home and gets into bed she's still thinking about them and why she felt so unnerved by them; she decides that she must get to the bottom of it.
As she continues to have chance meetings with Kevin Binks - on the way to Benny's shop to buy some milk and while out at the Bricklayers Arms for a drink - the reactions become worse and worse and she begins to realise that they were involved in something years ago that Beth had buried deep within her mind. A repressed memory is something that happens when we try to push upsetting incidents out of our minds but bits and pieces of an incident are now flooding back into her conscious thoughts and she's getting flashbacks to a time, and past trauma, she doesn't remember. Whenever she is around her father's leylandii hedge she wonders why she gets in such a state - paralysed by fear. She eventually decides to see a regression therapist to try to reach more of the memories of that incident but why are some of her family and friends not supportive? 34-year-old Gemma Ward is Beth's best friend and her husband, Guy, was one of Beth's old childhood mates. She seemingly has it all: a beautiful daughter, a loving and successful husband and a comfortable existence, but behind closed doors, Guy is jealous, possessive and extremely controlling, and Gemma wants out. Can Beth find out what happened to her and will she discover and confront the perpetrator? This is a riveting and enthralling thriller right from the start with an original premise and a prologue that entices you into the drama. I loved the easy breezy writing style that means you fly through the pages like nobodies business. Told from Beth and Gemma's perspectives, the alternating chapters helped to build the suspense and the twists, red herrings, intense drama and action aplenty keep you fully engaged throughout. Highly recommended.
A more than acceptable tale that kept me interested and intrigued Our main character, Beth, starts to suffer panic attacks when she see’s someone from her past and then with her Sister and best friend Gemma is on a ( sometimes half hearted ) mission to find out why.....Gemma is married to a bully and all round nasty bloke called Guy who has gone from passive aggressive to downright aggressive...the 2 stories run well alongside each other I am not sure if deliberate by the author but there were small parts of almost oasis and breathing space in the story ie food, work, house decor descriptions that for me worked really well interspliced with the actual bones of the story that was starting to cover topics such as rape, suicide, parental favouring and work bullying amongst others, for me it was really good to have these light and airy paragraphs amongst all the darkness So yes a good but difficult story, well written, brought out emotions especially the wonderfully ( and scarily ) accurate descriptions of panic/ptsd and a unique telling of how the past catches people up
This was a decent read, centered on close friends Beth and Gemma, with chapters alternating between them. Gemma seemingly has it all, but there are cracks in her marriage; and Beth is a commitment-phobe who is happy having Gemma, her sister Laura, and her dad in her life. When Gemma randomly runs into a boy she knew in childhood, bringing on panic attacks, we find that none of this is what it seems.
I liked reading about Gemma and Beth and felt that they were well-developed and believable characters. That being said, I figured out what was going on in the first few chapters of the book and was proven correct. I did finish this book in less than a day because I wanted to see if there was a twist I hadn’t figured out. There was not, but the book held my interest and the characters were easy to connect with.
Overall, a quick read with characters about which I enjoyed reading, but I wish I had been surprised more by the outcome. I think I would check out other books by this author. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Out with her sister Laura one night, Beth sees two men from her past and is suddenly overwhelmed when hit with a certain smell. This smell is what begins to trigger long hidden memories. Painful, disturbing memories. Beth begins to remember bits and pieces of an attack from years ago. If this attack happened, how is it that it got buried so deep? Yes, so deep to the point of completely forgetting the event.
Beth's experience is not unique. Triggers are quite common. I experience them myself, unfortunately. In Beth's case, this smell when around certain people begins to bring those painful memories to her clearer and clearer. The question that begs to be answered is whether or not she will dig deep enough to fully remember.
In fact, what about the fact that her memories allude to an attack? Will said attacker let Beth reign in her memories and possibly expose the individual? Will Beth's friends and family, and even a therapist be able to help her to recount her memories, keep her safe and bring the attacker to justice?
This thrilling story by Beverley Harvey is well-paced, written in dual POV, with the other character being Gemma, Beth's friend. While I was thoroughly invested in Beth's story, I loved the alternating chapters where readers begin to understand what Gemma's battles are and how she copes with what is happening with her life, which in part shows that the grass is not always greener.
This is only my second book by this talented author and I cannot wait to see what else is in store for readers who enjoy exciting stories with twists and turns as well as compelling characters.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Beth's life changes with a random chance sighting: a face from her past, someone Beth hasn’t thought about for years. She suddenly starts getting awful flashes of an event from her past – a vicious attack from an unknown person. And she thinks it could be more than just a nightmare. But how could she forget something this big?
Gemma, one of Beth's closest friends, is married to another childhood friend of Beth, Guy. What had promised to be a happy married life has soon turned into a nightmare for Gemma. Guy is a downright bully and Gemma has no one to turn to for help.
More details start to come back to Beth – details she knows she couldn’t have invented. But these are people who have known her all her life and have her best interests at heart. Who should she believe? And is she prepared for what she will find? Because the truth will ruin someone’s life – and they will stop at nothing to keep the past forgotten.
This was a very intriguing read!
I enjoyed the way the plot was narrated in alternating chapters between Gemma and Beth, it helped to build up the suspense and thrill in the air. Excellent character development as the plot progressed. The main issues of domestic violence and trauma have been dealt with such care and importance.
In terms of the main characters, I was glad when Beth and Gemma decided to stand up for themselves. Guy was one horrible and obnoxious character.
Even though there were no major twists in the plot and the ending is on expected lines, it still makes for an engaging read!
Close My Eyes by Beverley Harvey is another intriguing, thought-provoking, and twisty tale from one of my new favourite authors. If you have enjoyed Ms Harvey's previous offerings, you will want to add this latest to your TBR immediately.
Beth Harding is suffering from panic attacks and begins to wonder if the root of the problem stems from past trauma. Looking for support from family and confidantes, including sister Laura and best friend Gemma, Beth begins to unravel the truth of her past, and the shocking secrets that have long been buried begin to emerge, causing Beth to question everything, and everyone, she thought she knew.
Told from the alternating perspectives of Beth and Gemma, this one will have you pondering if anything, including our own mind, can ever truly be believed.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC of this title.

This is the first book I have read by this author.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis. The synopsis stated that fans of Lisa Jewell and others will be gripped . I am a fan of Lisa's books so am interested to see if it will live up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue, 60 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Beth and Gemma. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.
This book is very well written with great descriptions. The synopsis was a true depiction of the storyline. I believe the author has done her research on PTSD and domestic violence or even had past experience of either or both as she does an excellent job of portraying both throughout the storyline.
The storyline starts off quite slow and then picks up its pace throughout. I would describe it as a roller-coaster where the first 30% is the build up going up the roller-coaster and then your on the ride being twisted, turned and filled with the suspense of what's around the corner. I was captivated by this nail biting and heart pounding psychological thriller and became hooked turning the pages until late into the night. The plot is dark and realistic and I loved how we seen from both Gemma and Beth's POV. I did work out what had happened at about 60% and wasn't surprised when the reveal came. However it was still a good solid read. I enjoyed going back in time with Beth and seeing how her past led to what was going on in the present.
I love the fact that we have 2 strong woman, one who was 'broken' to start and the other whose life starts tumbling down at about 25% but yet are both strong and determined and fight together to get the perfect ending. Beverley has created richly, layered characters who reach into the depths to rely on inner strength when facing the demons of their darkest days. It wasn't only Beth and Gemma who were well written but several minor characters who recognised the signs of DV and abuse and supported them both.
I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to Beverley on the subtle manner that she used to covey the issues of abuse, domestic violence, trauma and the less known form of abuse that is gas lighting. I believe that this will help any readers that are suffering but not realising what is going on to recognise the signs and get help. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
Overall a gripping and addictive dark psychological thriller.
Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Thriller, Suspense, Mystery and Psychological Fiction amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Jewell and anyone looking for a gritty and dark psychological thriller.
335 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 4 /5 (I loved it but due to working out what was happening so quick it sadly loses a star from me ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

The brain is a very complex organ which although we are now living in the 21st century still has many mysterious grey areas that are still not fully understood by the scientific and medical worlds. The brain can also be very protective of the body that is resides in, sometimes it shuts away memories that it knows can be damaging to our mental health into little boxes. Or it allows us to deceive ourselves into believing that a situation is not what it appears to be. All of which can work perfectly well until something happens that causes the lid to open on the boxes and fragments of the memories to start escaping. Or, we are forced to face the truth about a situation and act for the sake of our own safety and well being.
This is the story of Beth and Gemma, two friends from different social classes who find their lives blighted by contrasting aspects of the mental health spectrum.
The story is told predominantly from the perspective of Beth who works for a charity and has recently dumped her latest boyfriend due to her on going commitment issues. Apart from constantly worrying about her father Tim, her life is rolling along ok, it's not perfect but it's ok. That is until the night that she goes to the pub with her older sister Laura and spots two faces from her past. Suddenly Beth is experiencing debilitating panic attacks, haunted by horrible odours and can't escape the feeling that something terrible happened in her past. To try and understand why she is suddenly blighted by these attacks, she starts going to see a therapist who starts coaxing Beth into remembering things that her brain has locked away. But as her memories start returning, Beth learns things that will shock her to her core and affect not just her life but the lives of the people around her...forever. She also learns that things and people are not always what they appear to be especially when you are a teenager. I thought the author's depictions of Beth's panic attacks were very believable and realistic, I have experienced panic attacks myself and they are absolutely terrifying.
There was also chapters that were voiced from the perspective of Gemma who was married to Beth's childhood friend Guy and they had a young daughter called Miya. Gemma appeared to have it all, a handsome husband, adorable daughter, beautiful home and a lavish lifestyle. Everyone thought they were the perfect couple but as we all know, in both the fictional and the real worlds, not everything is what it appears to be. Nobody truly knows what goes on behind closed doors.
Interspersed throughout the book was chapters that slipped back in time to 1994 and recounted Beth's unfolding memories of events leading up to and after the horrific event that her mind has blocked from her memories.
I thought the author's portrayals of both women's conflicting emotions as they struggled to deal with the events that were unfolding in both of their lives were very realistic and believable. They were both vivid individuals who's characters grew in strength and determination as the story unfolded.
This is a very well written, character driven story that has a plot which covers a wide range of realistic issues. The story is a captivating and,at times intense blend of friendships, families and domestic drama. It's tightly plotted, perfectly paced, keeps the reader guessing, has some unexpected plot twists and turns and had a cast of diverse, vivid individuals. I thought this was a very enjoyable read and I would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
Close My Eyes by Beverly Harvey addresses a tried-and-tested subject matter, but the distinctive writing style of the author had me bowled over.
39-year old Beth Harding works at a mental health charity and leads quite a drab existence. Her sister Laura and her boss/friend Nessa are rightfully concerned about her, as they feel Beth shies away from commitment. Beth, herself, finds nothing wrong in this until she begins to have anxiety attacks, out of the blue. Recognising her triggers, Beth, tries to find the cause of these attacks, which is buried in her long repressed memory. On the outside, it looks like Gemma Ward has the perfect life. With a powerful husband, a sweet daughter, and a comfortable lifestyle, the 34-year-old housewife seems to want for nothing. But behind closed doors, it's an altogether different story.
The story crept by at a snail's pace for more than 50% of the novel, mostly describing the everyday life of the two main characters. But through these seemingly mundane scenes, the author has carefully woven snippets of the trauma and terror the women suffer, slowly reeling in the reader, keeping one engrossed and wanting to know more. I loved how the author portrayed the two women as these broken, yet strong characters. But even more heartening was the handful of minor characters who recognised the distress signs and supported the victims. The subtle manner used to convey issues such as abuse, gaslighting, and trauma was beautiful. The last 30% or so of the book was rushed and while the protagonists get their closure, the story itself was left open-ended.
Despite the slow pace, the plot had me hooked for the better part of a day. Overall I found this to be a gripping novel and a must-read. A big thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
In the soon to be published psychological thriller, “Close My Eyes,” Beverley Harvey examines what we’d be willing to risk in discovering the truth. She cleverly reminds us of the double edged sword; in seeking the truth, someone’s life will be ruined.
Beth Harding, 39 and single, bumps into a contact from her teenage years and it instantly turns her life upside down. Suddenly, she becomes plagued with anxiety and her panic attacks become increasingly terrifying. Until one day she starts to remember….but someone wants her to forget. Relying on strength and courage from her married sister, Laura, and her bestie, Gemma, Beth learns the explosive truth about her forgotten past.
I was captivated by this nail-biting, heart pounding, thriller. The author has taken a seemingly gentle and happy upbringing like Beth’s and placed a dark, forgotten secret at the heart of it. She’s also unraveled a seemingly perfect marriage to show that nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. I found myself cheering Beth as she took steps to uncover the dark secrets of her past. The plot, although dark in places, was believable and well-paced, but it was the characterization that stole the show. Harvey has created richly, layered characters who reach into the depths to rely on inner strength when facing the demons of their darkest days. The suspense and twists kept me turning pages to discover the root of Beth’s pain and to see if Gemma was successful in battling her own demons.
As you turn over the last page, you’ll find yourself asking who you’d trust the most – friends? family? your own mind? You've got time to ponder your response as this thriller will be published March 23, 2021.
Thank you Beverley Harvey, Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Close My Eyes by Beverley Harvey is a thriller full of tension and long buried secrets that are waiting to explode. Told from the point of view of Beth and Gemma, this book will keep readers up at night.
Beth is single, 39, works at a charity and basically has a normal, mostly happy life. She goes out with her sister for a drink one night and has a panic attack when she sees a man who she knew as a child. She has no idea why she has had this reaction and is determined to get to the bottom of it.
Gemma is beautiful, a married mother whose husband is rich and successful. She seems like she has it all but her husband is increasingly stressed and violent. Her husband and Beth grew up together and have been friends since childhood. It's hard for her to always open up to Beth about her husband and her situation because she was his friend first.
There are old, long buried secrets that are going to come out that will ravage both women's lives. Who will be left standing after the fallout?
Excellent story line and characters are easily relatable and you really cheer for female empowerment by the end of this novel. I found it a thrilling mystery that I solved before the narrator revealed the ugly truth. Highly recommend to those who love a good thriller I promise you won’t be disappointed
First book by this author and it was a proper page turner- finished it in just over a day. Well written and the story kept my interest from start to finish - even though I did twig who the culprit was quite early on. Thought the ending was maybe a bit rushed - 25 years on would the fancy dress outfit really still be there?? A great read and I'm pleased to see this author has written another book - I'm off to investigate 🔎
This isn’t my usual reading genre, but having unexpectedly loved Beverley’s The Perfect Liar, I thought I’d give it a go - and wasn’t disappointed.
The story follows late-thirty-something best friends Beth and Gemma, who have both had their eyes closed to their dilemmas - Beth’s to a traumatic childhood event she has blocked out, and Gemma to an increasingly gaslit and abusive marriage. Their gradual ‘eye-opening’ (in Beth’s case, with the help of a therapist), along with their plans to take action, is fascinating to watch - and accompanied by a few twists along the way.
There’s a fair bit of darkness in both the girl’s stories; this admittedly wimpy reader had a couple of nightmares after her bedtime read, I can tell you. But this was counterbalanced by my caring for the totally believable main characters, and my enjoyment of their interactions with each other and the people in their lives. I was particularly fond of Gemma’s jump-off-the-page daughter Miya, and Beth’s elderly father, doddering around, with the loving help of his daughters, in the now tatty family home. There was also much to enjoy - even if with a sense of foreboding, in the visit to Beth’s childhood.
Along with all this, you have Beverley’s deceptively simple but characterful writing style. Its directness, along with her remarkable observations and ability to get into her characters’ minds - as well as ours - makes for a stunning read.
Reading Between the Wines book review #4/115 for 2023: Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷 Book 📱: Close My Eyes Author: Beverley Harvey Genre: Mystery & Thrillers Available now!
Sipping thoughts: Close My Eyes was a thrilling but sad story of a girl, Beth, who experiences something so traumatic when she was a teen, so much so that it affects her in her adulthood. This is a story about not being able to trust anyone, even family, and not being sure of your memories. I figured out what happened to Beth and who did it and I could not wait for it to be revealed. I was excited to see the mystery unfold. Unfortunately, the ending was a little underwhelming and didn’t come to a head as much as I wanted it too. Overall, it was a good read.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @CloseMyEyes.
Close My Eyes, the latest offering by Beverley Harvey, is one twisty tale that I could not get enough of! It is definitely just a one more chapter kind of read and like me, you may just find yourself losing time until there are no more chapters left to be read! I do love it when this happens.
Beverley Harvey has created a thrilling and thought provoking tale that will have you hooked right from the prologue. I found it a fascinating look into the mind and how a chance sighting of someone can trigger repressed memories and throw a life into such turmoil. It delves into PTSD, abuse and rape to name just a few, which may be a trigger for some readers, but they have been dealt with sensitively.
The characters have been well crafted, are believable and had me invested in them. I enjoyed the interchanging chapters between Gemma and Beth and the reader is given a great insight into each of their lives and struggles.
Close My Eyes definitely gets the heart pumping and is very addictive. A well plotted, written, dark and character driven story, this is one that is a must read for the psychological suspense fans out there.
This was an interesting psychological thriller. It didn’t exactly have me on the edge of my seat, but it did keep me engaged and interested. I’ll be honest and say that I guessed a major plot point fairly early on, but that was strictly through being the cynical person that I am.I think maybe that is what made it unique for me. I had a strong feeling that I had figured it out, but I wanted to see how the author got there – and if I was right or not. I thought that Gemma was the strongest character in the book. She felt the most realistic to me. The author did a great job of illustrating both her distress and desperation. I also found it interesting that the author threw in some red herrings. Upon reflection, I believe it’s indicative of how well the author wove the plot that I was never quite sure what was vital and what was a side-mention. And that’s what kept me interested right up until the very end. For a detailed review, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital ARC of the book.
The past affecting the present and bringing with it, flashbacks and anxiety attacks. That was the core of the plot. Author Beverley Harvey’s slow moving suspense had dual subplots of abuse and mystery.
Told in the POV of main character Beth and best friend Gemma, the author dealt with subtle shades of abuse and mind games in a marriage. I loved it when the character stood up for herself.
Both the characters were etched carefully. The book gave the vibe of impending truth around the corner. The mystery could be guessed midway, so the rest of the book was about being proven right. The prose was light and gave me the feel of a women’s fiction.
Though no major twists or heart pounding reveals, the story came to its surprise revelation. Overall, an interesting and quite an easy two-hour read.
Once I got the chance to really get stuck in properly it was a well paced, well written intriguing read if a predicable one. Told from the point of view of Beth and Gemma. To begin with its not evident the connection but it’s a good insight into 2 different lifestyles. Half way through the pace slowed to a slow burn and it was clear where the storyline was heading but I was hoping there would be some twists along the way that I hadn’t foreseen. I found the ending very rushed and left hanging and feel the story was left unfinished. I really liked the strong female characters, the different relationship dynamics and how certain topics were handled. It was a good enough read but feel a surprise here and there would have been good.
3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 23rd of March 2021.
I loved this book "Close My Eyes" by Beverley Harvey. I was hooked within the first few pages and I didn't want this book to end. I also loved the way this book was structured with alternating chapters between Beth and Gemma; who are the two main characters and they're close friends with compelling events which are going on behind their own closed doors which had me gripped from the beginning to end. (nosey Moo I am! lol)
I highly recommend this book Close my Eyes.
Big thank-you to netgalley the Bookouture and author for the advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
I loved the slow pace of this thriller; unlike others in this genre, it isn't rushed or exaggerated, and you have a chance to connect with the characters and feel what they're going through. It's a very realistic story. The issues (tw: rape, domestic violence, trauma, anxiety, depression) were written sensitively, and even though they're devastating, I felt a sense of hope for what was to come.
If you like your thrillers with an uplifting ending, give this a read!
The characters are so well written and constructed that you'll find yourself absorbed in their world and eager to know what happens next. Even though it's a dark thriller, it's written with a familiar and relatable feel that will keep you turning the pages. I won't give the plot away, obviously. Read it for yourself!
A different style of thriller. Flipping from Gemma to Beth was always clear and with perfect timing. I didn't guess the ending either which is a bonus. Looking forward now to reading my next novel by Beverly Harvey
I just found it boring, nothing gripping within the pages. It was obvious who Beth's attacker was from very early in the book. A Jekyll and Hyde character, two boring main characters and a weak storyline hidden amongst a load of waffle.
meh. So boring until 70% of the book which became a bit exciting, but then it's predictable too so there's no element of surprise. Even doing a review for this book makes me bored. Everything is boring. zzzzz
Now this was a true “couldn’t put down” book. Wonderful story, keeps you intrigued and wondering. Two sisters and a best friend trying to face the past and present filled with suspense and surprise. Truly enjoyed, anxious to read another book by this great author.
