Ten contestants compete in a survival challenge on the new reality show called Isolation Island. Each must survive as long as they can on their own with minimal supplies. The last person standing wins a million dollars.
When the production crew conducts a routine health check, they get stranded on the island along with the contestants and whatever is killing them.
The Contestants:
Derrick Bond- A twenty-nine year-old ex-Marine from Texas. He’s come to Isolation Island to escape the demons of his past and prove he still has what it takes to adapt, overcome, and survive.
Jillian Hill- 49 years-old. A self-proclaimed badass. She’s a wife and mother of six from Kentucky, full of grit and determination. She signed up for the ultimate test of endurance to prove to her kids anything is possible.
Tucker Jordan- A yoga instructor from Vermont looking to become one with nature and test his ability to live off the land. But, Isolation Island’s harsh climate does not welcome visitors with open arms. Can he find peace and harmony among the hungry wild animals?
Stephanie Hamilton- An artist and experienced survivalist from Colorado. She can survive anywhere, but what she wants most is to win the million dollars so she can live off the grid on a Caribbean island.
Wes Wood- A farmer from Mississippi looking to strike it rich on his first trip outside the country. Will his shady past catch up with him in a competition where mental toughness is as important as physical ability?
Kimmie Arden- A burnt-out nurse from New York who’s sick of the daily grind and work-related stress. If she can outlast the others, it can mean a more peaceful life for her whole family.
Seaton Rogers- A screenwriter and self-described introvert—perhaps the type of personality most suited for months of isolation. He wants the million dollars so he can distance himself from society and live a self-sustaining life on his own terms.
Zoey Price- A dance instructor and the youngest person in the competition entering at twenty-four years-old. She’ll have to learn quickly and adapt if she wants a shot at beating the older, more experienced survivalists.
Floyd Benson- A pizza delivery man from Florida with two young children depending on him. Can his energy-conserving strategy help him survive longer than the others?
Ezra Greer- A hard-nosed truck driver from Alaska. He’s come to Isolation Island to escape his dark past and make a new start. One million dollars would surely go a long way.
Ten contestants. One million dollars up for grabs. The last person remaining wins. Welcome to Isolation Island.
Place a handful of contestants from all walks of life on an isolated island in the Pacific Northwest with one goal in mind: To outlast each other in the wild for a million dollar prize, and what have you got?....Eager beavers willing to stop at nothing for a big payday, only the stakes may be higher than simply living off the land.
Each contestant is placed on an isolated part of the island far from each other and civilization. They are allowed to take a small number of essentials (tools, ferrorod, tarp, clothing), but for most part must live by their wits and the land, making shelters, gathering food, firewood, and keeping clear from wolves, bears, moose, and other dangers. The producers of the show have added a twist!
Somewhere on the island near their camps, they've left a map with the location of a treasure chest. They are not told what the chest contains, but it may provide each contestant essentials enough to give the person(s) lucky enough to find the treasure the edge to win the contest. In any case, searching for the treasure is enough to help keep the contestants occupied from boredom and the job of always gathering firewood and searching for food.
But when the producers make a regular checkup on the contestants they make a shocking discovery. One of them has been murdered! But by whom, and why? Could another contestant be the culprit? Was he, or she, so desperate for supplies they murdered a contestant so that they might survive? When the producers and their survivalist expert find themselves stranded on the island along with the contestants, it becomes a fight for survival for all of them, and it's no-holds-barred as they take on the challenges of finding food, weapons, keeping warm, staying dry, and most importantly.... finding the killer before he, or she, picks them off one-by-bloody-one.
This book reads like you're right there along with each contestant! I felt like I was watching Bear Grylls and Les Stroud taking on the challenge of living in the wild. The author must be an expert in this field because research alone doesn't provide the type of details one can create with imagination. If so, kudos to him. I particularly enjoyed the details each contestant experienced. The need to boil water and allowing it to cool before drinking. Always searching for food. Making shelters to keep dry. Gathering firewood to keep warm. Knowing what plants are edible. Staying safe from wild animals. That part alone was exciting to read. Then the author throws a curveball by adding a killer on the loose! Doesn't get any better than this. It's an adventure, a thriller, suspense, all wrapped in one. When you open this book, it's like you're stepping on Isolation Island to take part in the contest.
This puts a new spin on reality shows! The action leaps off the page and smacks you in the face. Once you start reading it's very hard to find a stopping point. I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Could of been one more chapter. Overall a great book.
Vēl viena pērle, kas pirms kāda laika iegādāta bez maksas "Stuff your kindle" akcijā!
Man ļoti patika!
Completely bonkers in the best way! This took some really unusual turns from where I thought it was going, but it was a wild, entertaining ride. I honestly didn't have high expectations, but they were exceeded.
Ten people of various genders and ages are competing for one million dollars on a Survivor/Naked and Afraid (but with clothes) type show. The island is in the northern Pacific Ocean, so weather is a constant struggle throughout. I thought it would be hard to keep so many characters straight, but each chapter focuses on a single character and lists their name/age/occupation/home state and that greatly helped.
When the producer, assistant, survival expert and doctor get to the island to do a contestant check, they find a dead body, their boat goes missing and everything hits the fan. Forced to fight for their own survival, from there on out it's nonstop action and the body count is quite high. The gore was pretty high too. The reveal of the killer was a REALLY unexpected turn (I'm still processing that part), but the story was so engrossing that I just went with it.
The constant struggle for food, fire and shelter combined with the unpredictable weather was enough to keep the tension high. The death toll mounting made it even more so.
This was one of the most entertaining books that I have ever read. Non-stop action that made it hard to put down. This book is not for the faint hearted due to the graphic nature of some of the deaths of the characters but it was essential to the plot lines of the story. The fascinating part of the book was that you got to know more and more about each character for each passing day on the island. My only negative was the immediate end of the book in which there could have been more interaction between the survivors and the island. If this is any indication of Mr. Moscato's writing style I plan to read many more of his books!! Very well done!!
Picked this book up expecting it to be a routine mystery revolving around the characters placed on an island as part of a reality series, but it soon turned out to be much more than routine. 10 Characters -- all who consider themselves survivalists -- are deposited on a very isolated island with the goal to be the last man standing -- or woman -- in order to win a million dollars. The reality series idea blows up and you find yourself in a situation reminiscent of Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" where 10 characters come to find themselves on an island and one-by-one they turn up dead! In this case, each character is in a different location and totally isolated from one another and interacting with one another is cause for disqualification, so why are some of them mysteriously turning up dead. Watch for red herrings throughout the book as I was sure I had it all figured out, but by 3/4 of the way thru the book realized that I might be wrong. Definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat as you rush thru the book to find out how it all turns out. And be prepared for surprises as some of the characters you think will come out alive, end up victims!
A group of participants on the show “Isolation Island” are in for the fight of their lives as the game goes from reality show to reality. The whole point of the show is for the chosen few to survive on their own, mastering nature. Soon, they are at the mercy of the island and something more insidious.
The producer cut corners to save money, leaving the crew and survivalists truly stranded as someone sabotages the only means of escape. As the body count rises, they need to find out who the killer is amongst them. Could it be a chosen cast member who was once a suspect in multiple murders? Or perhaps it’s something else, something that has been on the island long before “Isolation Island” chose this site to film….
I loved the characters and how each day was detailed for them. You can see the pieces of the mystery coming together through their film journal entries. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the big reveal, but it’s definitely not what I would have guessed! Loved this, but would’ve liked a bit more back story on the killer.

This book is a thriller. Definitely will keep you up into the night. A tv show about 10 people living on a deserted island in survivor style. The prize a million dollars. What happens next makes any episode of Survivor look like naptime at a daycare. Immerse yourself.
I savored this book! Didn’t want it to end! The storyline was incredible! It was like “Survivor” on crack! Hope I can find another book that holds my attention like this one did!
LOVED this book! Must read for all Survivor TV Show lovers! Now I have to find another one that’s comparable!
Now that is what I call a book. Plot had enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. I will read more from this author in the future. Thanks for the great book!
Loved the tension! I had lots of suspicions, at some moments I wasn't sure if I was really reading horror, but page 283 kinda was a big indicator lol. There were many red herings which I loved trying to wrap my head around lol. I was like "nah, gotta be a red hering. but what if... what if its a double red hering?"
All in all, if you want a thrilling horror set on a deserted island with lots of tension, against-the-odds survival, and lots of (sometimes unexpected) deaths, I'd recommend you reading this
Good book -- but it could be great with an editor and fewer plot holes
Overall a decent story line, plenty of suspense, and a few good plot twists. It was enough of a page turner to keep me reading. However, some of the characters were a bit overdone in their stereotypes, there were quite a few mispellings or words dropped, and the author dangled several proverbial carrots in front of the readers' noses but never provided the pay off. If you don't want spoilers, skip this part:
What did the original survival expert discover that concerned him enough to drop out, what really happened to the main ship, what was the one contestant secretly doing off camera, how did one contestant suddenly have more clothing items to help another after losing practically everything, and for crying out loud, what's the killer's origin-story?!
Also, fires are either hard to start due to humidity or grow exceptionally quickly out of control, seemingly without the mention of accelerants when nothing is particularly hot or dry. Some of the survival methods used are to be taken with a grain of salt. Please be reminded that even small fires produce carbon monoxide -- and within an enclosed space, without proper ventilation, especially when sleeping on the ground nearby, they can become deadly. While there are some really good survival methods mentioned, to be safe, do your own research or even better, take a hands-on survival course to follow up on the inspiration. For example, I researched atlatls and found some great YouTube instructional videos of how to make and use them efficiently. Great stuff I didn't know before.
This book is basically the TV show Alone, but with much more excitement and drama. I loved the show, but had to quit watching because I could not deal with animals being slaughtered just for someone to win money on a tv show. This book was so much better, with people being slaughtered instead of animals.
This is a solid, well written, well fleshed out story. No corners were cut and I love it that way. There are many pages of day to day survival descriptions, which I enjoy very much, but it could make the story drag in places for some. I could not get enough of it, and hated every time I had to put this book down for awhile to tend to real life. For a minute I thought it was headed in a supernatural direction, which I was bummed about, but it absolutely did not and I was thrilled at where it did go.
The producer, Sharon, appears to have employed some recklessness and questionable morals and when choosing contestants, caring more about ratings than the safety of other participants. Sharon also has some deep dark secrets she's keeping from the crew, secrets that prove she is ruthless and getting herself to the top is all that matters to her, even if it destroys or takes lives.
"You don’t send people like that into the woods on a deserted island to compete against each other for survival, Sharon."
As if that isn't enough, the island also holds secrets of its own that no one could possibly foresee. I was kept captivated from beginning to end. Now I'm heading over to check out other books by this author.
... Because I had already spent a good bit of time in this thing that I didn't want to totally waste it by quitting. But there were so many things wrong with this book that I hesitate to even give it three stars. There were too many characters, for one thing, with ten contestants plus the crew that came ashore. Even with clear divisions it was difficult to keep up with who was who. There were several typos throughout the book that would normally make me stop reading. An editor needs to get a hold of this one with a supply of red pens.
In addition, the author's anti-Christian, anti-God, anti-South bias was clearly visible. Why can't you just write a novel without all that? Why do you have to insert your biases into the story?
I like to read something out of my normal genres every once in a while. This was the book I chose for this time. Now I sincerely wish I could get that time back.
Fantastic almost 500 pge.novel about 10 people who were chosen to take part in an ardurous, adventure much like Survivor. They were from all sorts of backgrounds with the youngest being 24 and the oldest 57.
They were taken to a supposedly, deserted island on the far Northern part of the Pacific Ocean. They were all a good deal away from each other and could not communicate. Basic essentials were given to them and a walkie talkie that they could use to contact the mother ship that would stay in the Pacific in case any of them wanted to tap out.
The prize for being the last person left was one million dollars and you will thrill to read, just what lengths a person will go to, to be that last person.
If you like adventure novels with plenty of action, this book will keep you on edge, turning those pages faster and faster. Would highly recommend !
In saying that it can easily be trimmed down by half and did not need to be as long as it is. So much wasted pages of honestly nothing that really adds to the story and I admit I skimmed through a lot of the stuff with the contestants as it really didn’t do much for the story.
Also and spoilers a little here.
Near the end a character is killed that honestly it felt like was done purely for shock value and was a low bar as it was the character that honestly deserved to survive the most and had survived the most. Personally it brought the story down for me.

What the phuuck? This is the worst book ever. Like I was loving it like really following the story...and then out of nowhere it was like bam the killer is a snake human hybrid monster?? WHAT? And then the book ended abruptly with so many loose ends?? People saying they like this book must've been paid to lie. Again, I enjoyed the book...until the weird Korean monster cop-out. Like he was like "a weird abandoned building with Korean writing...and what's this? A snake-human? He's the killer?!" Like??? How is that the ending after 400 pages of alluding to a HUMAN killer? Lol this is comical. I don't know how this has good reviews. I looked it up after reading hoping to see other people mad!

Horrific, Terrifying, Suspenseful, this Thriller has all that and more. I would go so far as to compare it to the works of Stephen King. It has the gore of Richard Laymon. The characters, of which there are many, with each bringing there own perspectives and possible betrayals. Having them record their thoughts as if for a Reality TV show gives you a deeper insight into themselves and the game. One word of caution, don’t get attached to anyone character. For me, it ended too soon. I would have liked to follow the story beyond where it ended.
Naked & afraid meets Survivor meets Friday the 13th
Overall a thrilling story of survival and courage. The story slows builds and builds. Mystery and terror leaping out of every page. Keep the fire going tonight. Don't you dare sleep. It's out there waiting. Always waiting & it's oh so very hungry & angry...
A wild, thrilling horror adventure that definitely kept me on my toes! There were times I didn't even notice the death grip I had on my phone when I was reading through the numerous heart pounding moments!
I really enjoyed this book for the most part. I appreciated the descriptions of the characters and their back stories, along with how they developed over time.
I didn’t like the identity of the killer at all - if I wanted sci-fi I’d read sci-fi! I was hoping it would be a cast or crew member, however a half-human half-lizard hybrid was not really for me! I also think Ezra and Zooey should have survived, and the only reason the author decided upon the other two characters was so that he would have a totally unnecessary romantic angle.
The ending of the book was incredibly abrupt and left some unanswered questions; it felt like the author had run out of steam.
There were many typos throughout the book - even though they did not put me off reading, they were quite irritating. It showed a lack of care, especially when at one point one of the character’s names changed completely!
I still give this book 4 stars, purely because I really enjoyed the premise of the story, and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the book. It was something completely different to anything I’ve ever read before. I will certainly check out another book by this author, just to see how it compares.

This is 480 pages of an interesting plot usually all of my books come from One of the mini review sites are reviewed books for it is a good way to get great books not only for free but before anyone else but when looking at books on Amazon I ran across isolation island and it sounded so good and I spent all last night and this morning reading this book it is long but it held my attention throughout the whole book and all I can say is wow! I love a great thriller and or horror story in this book is both of those things. I absolutely loved it contestants join a show like survivor but instead of in a group it is one person on their part of the island and they must survive the best way they can but little did they know they picked the wrong island and it turns into a cluster crunch of horrific proportions if you love books about reality shows that go a muck then you’ll definitely love this book I certainly did! Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Johny Moscato uses the backdrop of survival type reality shows like Survivor and Naked and Afraid to imagine a reality show, somewhat similar; with deadly exceptions. With a thread of the supernatural running throughout the novel, I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough experiencing the suspense and mystery on Isolation Island. If you like TV shows like Survivor or not, this unique novel deserves your attention.
Just Wow! Loved the idea for this story, honestly think it would be a great reality TV show - as long as it gets passed! Good pace to the story, relatable characters you will love or hate. Great antagonist in the form of an unexpected but believable 'creature'. My only issue was the ending, maybe it was the authors intention - is there a follow on to this? If not, there should be! But don't take my word for it, go read it!
Wow is all I can say. This book was so good i hated every time I had to put it down. There were so many characters but i was invested in them all. I was really happy with the ending. Without giving anything away, I just wish we could've seen a little more continuation of it.
