Three days before a wedding, a handsome and mysterious man is fished from the Amazon River. Set once upon a time in a small Brazilian fishing village, The River Bride is a tale of true love, regret and two sisters who struggle to be true to each other and their hearts.
The River Bride is ok, but I think it's more of a good story than a good play. It just doesn't use the theatre very well, and it substitutes theatrical flourishes with attempts at verbal ones. It is fine, but I wish it used its medium more fully.
As for tales about marriages and loving one another forever... perhaps it's just my personal queer politics, but I find stories like this rather drudgingly conservative.
Love the playwright’s style, she’s so articulate about the character’s experiences with love. Many well written 3 dimensional characters. The two sisters remind me of the ones in Jane Austen’s sense and sensibility
