Ten minutes a day can transform your life! Whether you're looking for an alternative to more strenuous exercise, or a gentle yet efficient way to stay fit, Yoga Over 50 will enable you to reach new levels of physical vitality and mental clarity.
As our bodies begin to show the signs of daily wear and tear, and workout programs which once seemed effective no longer meet our changing needs, yoga can be the ideal exercise. Low impact and non-competitive, invigorating rather than exhausting, and with an emphasis on keeping the body supple and the mind relaxed and focused, the ancient discipline of yoga can be practiced at anytime of life. The programs in Yoga Over 50 feature:
-Step-by-step descriptions of yoga positions for active and resting poses -Programs suited to varying degrees of fitness, experience, and flexibility -Exercises to relieve specific problems, including headache, stiffness, and insomnia
This neat little book is well suited for those of us over 50, but is helpful for anyone. It is not "chair yoga", for those who lack mobility. The clear illustrations picture "mature" individuals performing their asanas well, without assistance of blocks, walls, or straps- props which seem to me as counterproductive. Although it is not a large book, it contains sufficient poses to guide you through many sessions.
This is a beautiful picture book of yoga poses, inspirational in that all the people doing the poses are over 50 years of age. They demonstrate how to make a pose more accessible for the older adult as well as showing older adults doing difficult, advanced poses. At the end are sample 30 minute routines of varying difficulty and designed to address problem areas in the body.
An oldie but goodie that I found at an estate sale. Great photographs of poses, including the progressive moves to complete the pose. Nice history of yoga in the introduction and several recommended routines.
I love how these seniors are in the difficult poses, making them look easy, with encouragement to work towards a lifelong practice. It's more for able-bodied people than those with major health conditions.
