Hayden Dawson, formally Zedo Jeta is back again and this time he doesn't have all the answers. Even the might of all his powers aren't enough to save the day.
For the handful of survivors of Earth, survival is imperative. But when grief, stress, and the responsibility of his position gets to him, Hayden grows vulnerable to the seductive call of darkness.
Will the light inside of him be enough to hold that darkness at bay? Or will the forces of The Shadow consume and transform him?
With Hayden devoting all his skills, resources, and powers to find a way through the galaxy in search of a new home for his people, suddenly he also has to protect those he cares about the most from the deadliest of opponents: himself.
It's personal gain versus the greater good with the future of the colony and his growing family―even the galaxy―on the line.

As the author I'm a little biased, but 'Inside War & Love' is just an emotional and wildly dark ride! Book 5 of the 'Across the Stars' Series picks up right where book 4 left off and takes you on a ride that revolves around the consequences of war and the devastating side of love. I hope you all enjoy this labor of love as much as I did!
This was explosive and violent and such a shift from the earlier books. Still grappling with my thoughts on how all this came about. But 1 thing I can say is Inside war and love was shocking and not at all how I thought it would be, but in a good way. pretty much intrigued now with what might happen next cause that was really gritty and dark.
Whew!, wow this book was something else! Far better than the previous edition. This book has a limited scope and I appreciate that laser focus approach on Hayden's character and the number of twists and turns he endures in his growth over the course of the book.
This edition asks the question that is often sitting there like a red elephant in the room yet no one wants to acknowledge it. What happens to the mental state of the most powerful superbeing in the world? Everyone assumes that that person containing all that power and influence must be naturally adept at compartmentalizing stress and making the hard calls that others cannot. This book goes to some dark bounds to show you exactly what would happen when all that stress and vulnerability reaches a head... and it's not pretty!
I enjoyed how real Hayden's downfall came to be. It was a split moment of vulnerability that led him down the path he ultimately went down. It illustrates a great point as to how one's mental state could shift the balance and ultimately the course of their own life and the relationships that come with it.
Here we get a ton of lore and history on who and what the Shadow are. Even after finishing this book, I could feel that this organization is vast and we only got to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to them. It was great seeing all the different superhuman people that make up the Shadow, everyone from Shadow Enchantresses to wayward superhumans out seeking power or trying to redeem themselves after doing dark deeds.
By far the writing has improved tenfold and as always the action was knocked out of the ballpark. There are plenty of gritty, down and dirty fight scenes that take place here! Nobody is safe and that's all I'll say on that!
Hayden had some of the biggest growth to his character and this book does not pull its punches on the harsh realities that often come with change.
In the end, this was a great read that does an excellent job of calling back to its previous books and making way for future installments.
Wow so this was totally a marked improvement from the last installment. Round 5 of this saga seems a lot of twists and turns and edginess enter the life of the main character, Hayden. I enjoyed the darkness and the angst that was nearly tangible. I.W.A.L. was gory and gritty and intense and I vastly enjoyed it! I was surprised by how much I liked it, which isn't me taking a jab at it. It's just the 4th book wasn't so great. Nevertheless, I'd like to thank the author for gifting me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Looking forward to book 6.
this was a dramatic tragedy that I didn't know I needed. A nervous breakdown of sorts leads our fearless leader into a phase of madness. But somehow I felt sorry for him despite all the chaos Hayden caused. I was so engrossed with this book! Was on the edge of my couch until the end. Even though I can't wait for the next book, I can't give it 5 stars because I felt it was sort of too violent in the end. other than that I liked it a lot
