Colossians | Rooted in Him is an in-depth, six-week study that goes verse by verse through the book of Colossians. This study is all about Jesus. It points us to who He is; teaches us to follow in His ways; and helps us to see that joy, peace, and contentment are found in Him alone. This study is about being rooted in Jesus and building a life that is all about His glory. Whether you have been studying the Bible your entire life, or this is the first time you have ever studied God's Word, we think this study will encourage your heart and point you to Jesus who satisfies our souls.
This book is perfect for individuals or groups.
The book contains the daily study material as well as study suggestions and extra features like timelines, maps, word studies, and charts to help you dig deeper.
Each week contains five days of study material, including daily study questions. Each week also has a memory verse day and a weekly reflection day to help dig deeper into Scripture.
I've done a myriad of Bible studies in my lifetime, and I can truly say that this stands out as one of the best. Each day's lesson covered just a few verses, but it stepped through the book systematically and thoughtfully. The commentary was excellent and the questions each day were a good mix of understanding vs application. On top of that, the book is simply beautiful and very well laid out. For various reasons I struggled with consistency, but it was an encouragement to keep coming back to such solid teaching in bite sized nuggets. I'm looking forward to doing more studies from The Daily Grace Co.
This was an excellent study! I highly recommend this for both individual and group study. I met with a group of about 8 women and we were all blessed by the content and the focus on the exaltation of Christ - keeping Him preeminent in all we do.
Not a fan of the style of writing. In a book that is all about the resurrection life that Christ provides, the application in this book is consistently the word “should.” “We as Christian’s SHOULD…XYZ.” If I’m splitting hairs, this is not biblically incorrect, but the implication is “shape up. Cmon, get on board already. See what you ought to be doing? Now get to it” instead of the focus being on the life and power God provided FOR us in Jesus’ resurrection. Is there responsibility to cooperate and choose hard obedience as a Christian? Yes, absolutely. I simply didn’t at all like the way this book communicated about the role of the Christian in living the “new life” described in Colossians 3.
2 stars because I love the company/publisher and overall would recommend their resources.
I thoroughly enjoyed this devotional on Colossians that went well while reading though and covering the book in a bible class. Some of my favorite verses come from Colossians and finally sitting down and studying them in context of the whole book was a delight.
A few of my underlined notes/quotes from the authors:
"The gospel must be learned. There is no such thing as someone who has been a Christian all of their life. In order for us to respond to God's initiating love and grace, we must hear the truth of the gospel of Jesus' perfect life, death, and resurrection. We must see the depths of our sin and be transformed by the grace of God." pg. 20
"We do not seek after knowledge for knowledges sake. We do not come to the Bible to be able to spew out facts, but for spiritual wisdom and understanding." pg. 23
"He [Paul] is not speaking of a mystery in the sense of something strange and unusual, but in the sense of something that has been hidden. We are being given a glimpse at the unfolding plan of God and the progressive nature by which revelation is received. The plan of God is eternal, and yet it is revealed to us little by little throughout scripture." pg. 63
"Jesus is the center of our lives as believers. We live from Him, for Him, and in Him. The concept if receiving Christ that is being referenced here [Colossians 2:6-7] is the act of hearing, learning, and receiving the gospel message. It is not confined to praying a prayer as our culture would often think of receiving Christ, instead it is the entire process of God pursuing us in grace, the hearing of the message of the gospel, and receiving it by faith. It is first and foremost a work of God in drawing our hearts to Himself through the power of the gospel." pg. 71
"There is no philosophy that will heal our souls, only Jesus can." pg. 88
I liked how thoroughly this book broke down Colossians into a workable, manageable daily study. I thought the pages that summarized each week were unecessary and could have been better devoted to just open writing/journaling space, but overall, this was a WONDERFUL guide through Colossians. The explanations and daily breakdowns were very helpful. Really enjoyed this as part of a small women's Bible study!
Not my favorite study. I personally like Bible studies that have more cross referencing and where you read a little, then answer questions then read some more. This one you did a short reading and then answered questions. It was a beautifully put together book though. The pictures were very modern and minimal. But I just didn’t care for the study layout. But I looooove the book of Colossians and this made me dive deeper into it.
Thank you Daily Grace Co. for this amazing study on the Book of Colossians. I have learned so much from the Apostle Paul on how we should live and that Jesus is all we need. We don’t need Jesus plus anything else. I’m on a journey to study in depth of each book of the Bible and this Colossians study has help me do that. If you haven’t gotten one of the studies please do so. It will change you forever. I love how they break things down little by little, passage by passage.
I started this study for extra learning in parallel with a women’s weekly Bible study class. I got a bit behind in finishing it up. I always enjoy The Daily Grace studies. Broken down into a few verses at a time with lots of reflection. Lots of great stuff in Colossians to help you grow!
A true in-depth study of Colossians. Working thru verse by verse, following Paul’s journey with his teachings to Colosse. Broken down into little pieces to truly understand Gods word.
I've completed the first of the six weeks. The book is basically two pages of commentary with a few questions for each section. "Study Suggestions" at the beginning of the book gives tips on what to do for each passage of scripture, and they are some of the things that are taught in Search the Word: Knowing & Loving God through Intentional Bible Study from the same company. The questions to answer and info to fill in for each day's or week's work also are some of the things that are taught in Search the Word. It seems that very few of the questions are specific to Colossians. However, the commentary I've read so far has been good.
I found Search the Word to be very thorough and beneficial. I compiled into a Word document all of the study tips, questions, things to mark in the bible text, etc. that were taught in Search the Word, printed the document, and put it in page protectors to use when I study the bible. By implementing nearly all of the things taught in that book, I can make a deeper study than what this Colossians guide provides, especially if I use at least one good commentary following the study of a passage. I already have commentaries from authors I trust, so I feel like I wasted my money on this book this Colossians guide wasn't necessary. (edited after I finished the book since I read all of the commentary in it and it's very good).
I don't like the paper. A workbook should not have glossy paper. I don't know why they didn't use the same kind of paper that they used for Search the Word, which was great for writing on.
I picked this up to try this company out after extensive research on what they believe and friend recommendations. It did not disappoint! It helped so much when going through Colossians that my next yearly Bible study I purchased through them. Definitely recommend!
