'One of the nation's favourite saga writers' Lancashire Post
In the grand tradition of Catherine Cookson, Josephine Cox and Poldark , comes a page-turning and enthralling new Cornish-set saga of shipwrecks, smugglers, secrets and romance, from Jennie Felton.
She always knew a piece of her heart was missing...
Cecile has been raised to a life of privilege at Polruan House, by her widowed father and aunt. Now she's of age, they are determined that she make a proper match, but Cecile's heart belongs to their coachman, Sam - most definitely not suitable marriage material.
When Sam turns to his friend, smuggler Zach Carver, for help eloping with Cecile, Zach tells of a recent encounter with Lise, a beautiful but poor girl in St Ives, who is the mirror image of Cecile.
And so a daring plan is born to briefly swap the girls. But bringing Cecile and Lise together will uncover an astonishing family secret of a bold escape from a loveless marriage, a treacherous shipwreck and a sister thought lost to the sea long ago...
For more heartwrenching, heartwarming saga, look out for The Stolen Child and A Mother's Sacrifice , out now!
And don't miss Jennie's Families of Fairley Terrace series, which began with Maggie's story in All The Dark Secrets and continued with Lucy's story in The Miner's Daughter , Edie's story in The Girl Below Stairs , Carina's story in The Widow's Promise and Laurel's story in The Sister's Secret .

This is a story about two people from different backgrounds who fall on love. Now that Cecile is of age, her father wants her married to someone of social standing, but Cecile is in love with Sam, a coachman, and her family won't approve of him. But Cecile and Sam have plans, but will they get what they both want?
This is a well written, character driven story that held my attention throughout. The characters are well rounded and believable. The storyline is true to the era it's written in. I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though it reminded me of the Prince and the Pauper a little bit.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Headline and the author #JennieFelton for my ARC of #TheSmugglersGirl in exchange for an honest review.
The smuggler's girl by Jennie Felton. Cecile has been raised to a life of privilege at Polruan House, by her widowed father and aunt. Now she's of age, they are determined that she make a proper match, but Cecile's heart belongs to their coachman, Sam - most definitely not suitable marriage material. I really really enjoyed this book. It was different. Great story and characters. 4*.
I almost gave up on this one a few pages in, as it appeared the plot of the story was already revealed but I'm glad I carried on as I was mistaken and there were further twists and turns to the story.
If you want to read something like Poldark this is the one for you. It's a clean read with a mystery and romance, what's not to love?! Will be reading more of Jennie's books!
This is a story of Cecile , who lives with her father and aunt In Polruan House after the death of her mother . She has had a good life , and now of age her father wants her wedded off well. However Cecile has set her sights on someone else, Sam who works as a coaching and is not seen as a good match for her. The story carries on with their plans to get what they both want , by the most unusual of ways. It has all you want from this type of story . I've not read a book by Jennie Felton before, but if you enjoy Dilly Court , or Rosie Goodwin , this one will be right up your street.
I'm not sure what to write about this book. I usually enthuse or offer some sort of criticism but for once, nothing comes to mind.
It was a nice little story but not particularly memorable. It had the makings of a great book but something was missing and I'm not sure what. I felt that it all seemed so unreal and not at all authentic or believable. In a way, I'm pleased I've finished it as it just wasn't grabbing me. However, I stuck it out to the bitter end where the fantasy continued as the story was wrapped up.
The heart wants what the heart wants, it doesn’t care about social class, ethnicity, age etc! Cecile comes of age and her family want her to marry someone of social standing, however her heart belongs to Sam the coachman - a man whom her family will not approve of. A lovely well written book by Jennie.
I’ve been a fan of Jennie for a while, but there was just something about this book that I couldn’t get into. Not sure if it was the characters, but I found it all too confusion and too many characters. I enjoy to read a book that I don’t have to concentrate too hard on, but this just didn’t meet my expectections. Sorry…….
Thank you to #NetGalley for the advance copy of #TheSmuggler’sGirl by #JennieFelton A family saga set in the height of smuggling in England. Full of trials and misunderstandings. An engrossing read.
It was a bit slow to start as I had not read any of Jennie Felton books and from a different period in history. But I soon got into it and loved the twists of the Cornish tale. Danger, strength and romance made for a good read.
Took me a while to get into this. I skimmed through it. Rating this as a 2 ⭐️ ⭐️. I felt a lot wasn’t needed to get to the plot of the storyline as I usually never skip parts of books in reading,
Loved this one … it has been on my shelf WELL over a year… Lovely story of Separated twins… bit of a dark story… as most of these Gerogian/ Victorian books are … 🌟4
