After encountering a real (after) life demon while looking for ghosts in the most haunted town in America, Noa, Ko, Gus, and Astrid are on the hunt for this particular devil's true name, to try and free Astrid from its demonic influence.
But they might just uncover more about the dark truth about idyllic Cape Grace, and the secrets surrounding its famous founding Mayor while they're at it...
I am very close to having all of my 2021 reviews live before the end of the year! In order to fully meet that goal, I may have to post two reviews in one day but I am happy to say that I think the goal is more than meetable! I am also happy to say I completed another goal I had for myself before the end of the year (this was just to wrap up some current reads, and I was able to wrap up one out of two)! One of the final graphic novels, I read this year was the second issue of Specter Inspectors, so far I am still really enjoying this series, and I can not wait to see what comes next, but in the meantime, let’s talk about what happened in issue two!
SPOILERS AHEAD
The group is back on the road and still trying to figure out why and how one of them is actually possessed. This time they find themselves at a library in a city called Cape Grace. The building itself is beautiful and the town is too. But it all seems too good to be true. When night comes in the library things start to change and the group meets a ghost but is the ghost dangerous or is she trying to help them?
I believe I mentioned this in my previous review for issue one but I absolutely love the art style of this graphic novel. It’s so gorgeous and I find myself going back and looking at panels even when I am done reading the entire thing. On top of the amazing art, I really enjoy the story and overarching plotline! I am looking forward to picking up number three with my next set of Hoopla borrows!
Boom just keeps putting out phenomenal stuff. The art is great and the story is intriguing. Developing uniquely in this 2nd issue. I do wish I could learn more about the team though. I feel like it glossed over them to focus on the mystery. Which isn't bad, I just want to understand where each character is coming from more. Hopefully, that will happen in future issues.
In this issue we got to see more mystery being added to things, with the Specter Inspectors begrudgingly agreeing to help the demon possessing Astrid and run into another ghost. Also, we got to see some bickering from Astrid and Gus which was pretty funny; those two give me a mutual annoying sibling vibe about their dynamic.
This is just a fun series. I like the cast of characters. It's like one part Scooby Doo and another part Paranormal Investigators. This one gets more ghosty and has a brief library setting. I would definitely keep reading this and hope more than 1 volume is made.
This series is fun, and the upcoming collected edition is gorgeous. The characters are interesting and definitely have Scooby Doo vibes. If you liked that, read this! The art also really pops.
