Meet Me at the Altar #1

The Engagement Embargo

Rate this book
Four failed engagements. One year-long hiatus on women.

Elliott Sullivan loves being in love, but after his latest romantic disaster, his friends and family finally put their foot down—no relationships or proposals for at least a year. Ready for his heart not to be squashed under another sexy high-heel, he agrees to fully embrace life as a perpetual bachelor. Which should be easy—especially when he recruits his sister’s best friend for help. Surely he won’t fall for her, no matter how perfect she seems…

Skylar isn’t sorry to see Elliott’s latest relationship go up in flames. She’s had a crush on him for as long as she remembers—not that anything can ever happen there. So when Elliott asks for her help to stop him from breaking his dating embargo, she jumps at the chance. They’ve spent time together before and nothing has come of it. So what could possibly go wrong this time?

Sticking to his embargo would be fine if all this time with Skye wasn’t making Elliott wonder if maybe the perfect girl had been in front of him all along.

Much better romance than my last. I could actually believe in the chemistry between Elliott and Skylar. Plus we get to meet the friend circle and I liked them all. I will definitely read all the books in this series!

3.5 Stars!

This is the first book in MEET ME AT THE ALTAR series. It looks like each book is focusing on one of the women who work for, & own Meet Me at the Altar Wedding and Catering Services. This one is co-owner Skylar Jennings story.

Elliott Sullivan seems to be a serial fiancé since while attempting for the fourth time to get married he realizes his bride is in love with someone else. His family decides that he needs to be on a year long engagement embargo to avoid him jumping into another relationship.

Skylar Jennings has had a thing for Elliott for a long time but because his sister Josie is her best friend she has steered far away.

Josie being worried about Elliott sends Skylar to “watch” him. In her attempt to stay close he talks her into helping figure out where he is going wrong in relationships. Skylar has a degree in psychology so spending time with her could really help him to determine what his issues are.

I’m not sure why but at times I had a hard time connecting with these characters. Also, I enjoy sexy scenes and this book doesn’t really deliver on that aspect. It is totally my personal preference and sometimes I can do without them but the storyline and the characters have to be really interesting for me not to miss it while reading.

THE ENGAGEMENT EMBARGO is the first instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult MEET ME AT THE ALTAR romance series focusing on the woman who work for, and own Meet Me at the Altar Wedding and Catering services-Skylar, Lea and Josie. This is co-owner Skylar Jennings , and computer coder Elliott Sullivan’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Skylar and Elliott) THE ENGAGEMENT EMBARGO follows in the aftermath of the wedding that never was. Elliott Sullivan was about to get married but realized the woman he loved was in love with someone else. This being his fourth failed attempt at marriage, Elliott’s family imposes an engagement embargo in an effort to prevent Elliott from quickly jumping into another relationship. For one year the family ‘strongly suggests’ that Elliott forgo any future relationships but Elliott never expected his sister’s best friend Skylar Jennings to help him overcome his relationship dependency and loneliness in the forthcoming months. With a degree in psychology, Skylar knows a thing or two about relationships and grief but our heroine finds herself ‘counselling’ the man whom she has loved for as long as she can remember . What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Skylar and Elliott, and the potential fall-out as Elliott struggles between head and heart, keeping secret his relationship with our story line heroine.

Skylar Jennings has lusted after Elliott Sullivan for a very long time but refuses to cross the proverbial line between romance and friendship having watched from the side lines as Elliott’s history of failed relationships break a little bit of her heart.Elliott Sullivan wants it all-marriage, family, and a happily ever after but our hero had no idea that his sister’s best friend Skylar felt anything other than brotherly love .Sent by Josie Sullivan to ensure her brother Elliott didn’t do anything stupid or wrong, Skylar found herself ‘babysitting’ a man who seemed to accept that this was his current direction in life . Getting to know our story line heroine meant getting up close and personal for Elliott with the woman that would call to his heart.

The relationship between Elliott and Skylar begins as friendship as Elliott struggles in the aftermath of the wedding that almost was but Skylar is quick to reveal that Elliott’s ability to move forward may be a sign that perhaps he hadn’t yet found his own happily ever after. Keeping their relationship a secret is about to take a toll on their growing love, a love that is threatened by the engagement embargo Elliott begins to enforce on his own. The $ex scenes are all implied or fade to black.

We are introduced to Skylar’s friends and business partners: Josie and Leanna; Elliott’s large extended family, and Elliott’s friends Tyler, Alex and Jared.

THE ENGAGEMENT EMBARGO is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining; the romance is passionate yet heart breaking; the characters are stubborn, dynamic and sassy.

The Engagement Embargo is the first book in a new series about three best friends who own a wedding planning business. Skylar has been in love with Elliot for years. Her heart has broken a little bit every time he has fallen in love with someone else. Elliot is a bit in love with the idea of being in love. After his wedding is called off, Elliot's family put him on an engagement embargo for a year.

I thought this was a cute romance. The embargo allowed Skylar and Elliot to allowed them to really deepened their friendship before they became lovers. It also allowed Elliot to really examine what he was looking for in life. The only thing I would have liked a bit more of was the bedroom scenes. They are pretty much fade to black. The chemistry between the couple was really strong so I disappointed that we didn't get more on the front. Along with the sweet romance, the book has great characters. The relationship between Skylar and her friends was endearing. I looked forward to seeing them get their HEAs. I have to say that I loved Elliot's grandparents toward the end. They were adorable. I also loved what he did for Skylar at the party. I do recommend this one. It was a great way to start off the series.

I found the audiobook of this book on Hoopla and because I like books with wedding planners, I decided to give it a shot. I enjoyed my time with the story. Skylar and Eliott had good chemistry together. The narrator, Avery Reid, is fantastic.

Samantha Chase’s The Engagement Embargo is a clever twist to the typical friends to lover’s romance. Being jilted at the altar is Elliott Sullivan’s latest and greatest romantic disaster. Four failed engagements haven’t stopped Elliot from looking for the right person to share his dream of a 4 bedroom house in the suburbs, a dog and 2.5 children.
Samantha Chase creates the perfect blend of compassion, romance and drama in this novel. Elliott Sullivan is a swoony hero who doesn’t realize that his perfect person is his sister’s friend Skylar Jennings. Elliot and Skye’s friendship changes when he asks her to help talk though his failed romances—ALL of them. I loved the honest, emotional conversations that took place between them. The author’s compelling descriptive voice allows the reader to feel Elliot’s pain, confusion and embarrassment and hear Skye’s understanding, calm voice during these conversations.
I loved the chemistry between Skye and Elliott and the relatable conflict in the storyline. Elliott’s family has demanded that he not date for a year –will a friends with benefits relationship work for them? I loved this couple and rooted for their romance from the beginning of the novel.
The Engagement Embargo is well written and captivating. Samantha Chase engages the reader from the first page with her unique take on the friends to lover’s romance. Skye and Elliott’s romance has several twists and turns-this added a lot of depth to the storyline. I loved the romance, the wonderful secondary characters and the relatable conflict in the novel.
If you are looking for a feel good romance with lots of heart—The Engagement Embargo is the book for you!

The Engagement Embargo is book one in the Meet Me at the Altar Series, what a great start this read is and I’m now very excited as to what Ms Chase has in store for the next instalment.
Elliott Sullivan is a hopeless romantic, he is in love with love and desperate to find true love and happiness but four broken engagements later, he realises he needs to do what his family and friends have been urging him to do and that’s play the field, have some fun without putting his heart on the line.
Skylar is his sisters best friend and as a wedding planner she spends her time around couples in love but the love of her life Elliott doesn’t seen to notice her but when he comes to her for help stopping him falling for every woman who crosses his path, she agrees because she would rather have this man in her life as a friend than lose him completely.
The problem here is what happens when feelings come into play, will Elliott or Skylar risk the friendship to cross the line to become lovers.
This book ticked all my boxes, I swooned and I sighed, I smiled and I giggled, I fell hook, line and sinker for this couple and the secondary characters abd I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

From the moment I read this blurb and saw that cover, I knew I needed to read this book. Picked it up on audiobook and the narration was fantastic. Immediately, I realized that this story is told in a mix of third person and first person. I normally have a hard time connecting to stories told in third person but after a few chapters, I didn't notice it much anymore.
Elliott is my kind of book boyfriend. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is a total romantic. He doesn't understand why any of his relationships haven't worked and after being left at the alter, his family is not having any of it anymore.
Sky is his sister's best friend and has been around forever and has dreamed of a moment where Elliott might show some interest in her. Sky tries to help him figure out why this keeps happening to him and Elliott starts to wonder why he agreed to this embargo. This was such a sweet romance and the chemistry between the characters had me swooning.

It's bad enough when the woman you want to marry leaves you right after she walks down the aisle, but for Elliott this is just the tip of the iceberg when it is the forth failed engagement he has gone through. So when his family decides for him that he needs to go on a year long wedding and relationship embargo, he thinks they might have the right idea. But when wedding planner and his sister's best friend Skylar comes to his aide and becomes his confidante, will the embargo be the one thing keeping him from finding his soulmate? Or will the two just remain friends with benefits? Once again Samantha Chase creates characters the reader cannot help but fall in love with while giving the reader a storyline that has them laughing out loud and sighing with happiness. Romance is always in the cards and happiness always prevails.

Quick Summary: A simple FWB romance

My Review: The Engagement Embargo by Samantha Chase is book #1 in the Meet Me at the Altar series. It was released in 2021.

About the Book: "Four failed engagements. One year-long hiatus on women. Elliott Sullivan loves being in love, but after his latest romantic disaster, his friends and family finally put their foot down-no relationships or proposals for at least a year."

In My Own Words: Love and romance happen in a FWB situationship.

My Final Say: This was a lighthearted read that was, honestly, low in conflict and high in feelings of unrequited love...until it became more for both partners.

Other: This novel is recommended for romance readers who are looking for a low hum, low conflict love story.

What a beautiful and heartwarming story!
I love that in this case is the man, Elliott, the one who is in love with love, the one that wants it all and yet he never seems to get it. His family has enough and he's now on a break from women and relationships. What better way to understand than with help..and that's how Skylar, Elliott's sister best friend, gets into the mix. Skylar has been in love with him forever but he never seems to notice her, so she is sure nothing will ever happen..except the more they get to know each other the more feelings and attraction become apparent..what will Elliott do? Forgo the embargo or risk losing the one for him?
The story is entertaining, emotional and sweet too!
Can't wait for more!

I'm in the middle of a slump; nothing is hitting right, and instead of reading anticipated books and being disappointed, I've decided to read a bunch of fluff... and if that is what you are in the mood for and/or need, this is right up your alley. This is best friends brother, secret/forbidden romance, fuck-buddies turns into more... but with low stakes and low angst 2.5⭐

From heartache to happily ever, Chase knows just how to brighten up a day. The Engagement Embargo has all the ingredients to put more than a little love in your heart. Elliott and Skylar flip the script on how it feels to fall in love. She's the closet romantic. He added his heart on his sleeve. It's as simple as that until a life long friendship becomes complicated by long overdue feelings. What happens when the dream of ever after has been right in front of you the whole time? A pleasureful two-step of obvious, yet irresistible romance.

Eh..

This was a pleasant read. Not terrible but not great either. It could’ve been much better. The long suffering crush trope was boring. It just wasn’t fleshed out enough. And the bedroom scenes were tepidly written. I’m reading the 2nd installment. Frankly 50 pages in and it’s better. So there’s that…I read about 200 books a year…not many get reviews.

I absolutely loved The Engagement Embargo! Samantha Chase has once again delivered another wonderful romance with The Engagement Embargo, the first book in her new Meet Me at the Altar series. Samantha Chase has once again provided her readers with amazing characters. I love how all the characters in The Engagement Embargo feel like best friends! Who doesn't love hot sexy men, strong, passionate females, and loving friends, who always support one another? Samantha Chase continues to deliver all that and so much more. I really enjoyed The Engagement Embargo and all the books in the Meet Me at the Altar series. I have read other books by Samantha Chase and have always enjoyed her wonderfully written love stories. Samantha Chase has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. The Engagement Embargo did not disappoint, I could not put it down and loved every page. One of my favorite parts is how Samantha Chase incorporated the title of the book into the love story. I enjoy how Samantha Chase writes from the perspective of the main characters. That way you get to know what is going on in each of their minds. The Engagement Embargo is a wonderful love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud and the bittersweet moments that cause me to sigh, say aww to myself with tears filling my eyes. The Engagement Embargo be filled with such moments, and with so much more. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a Samantha Chase love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Who doesn’t love a story about falling in love your first crush, your best friend’s older brother? The Engagement Embargo is the story of Skylar “Skye” Jennings, co-owner and event planner for Meet Me at the Altar Wedding Services, and Elliot Sullivan, four-time engaged brother of Josie Sullivan, co-owner of Meet Me at the Altar Wedding Services. Elliott has proposed to four different women in his life, and finally is having a wedding to Tracy Burrows, until Tracy’s best friend Daniel St. James, the wedding officiant, reveals his true feeling for Tracy and they leave together. Elliott’s family has an intervention and informs him that they are enforcing an engagement embargo, no relationships for a year. Skye takes Elliott home on his wedding night and they talk. Elliott asks Skye if they could continue to meet weekly as his therapist. During their weekly meetings, Elliott decides that his is no longer looking to get married, have a house and a family, but is committed to being single. He also decides that they can begin casually date as friends with benefits and that would not be against the engagement embargo. While Skye and Elliott spend more time with one another, things change between them. I love when Skye gets real with Elliott about her true feelings for him and opens up to him. Elliott breaks things off with Skye. I love how Skye and Elliot show their vulnerable side. I love the plot twists and how that changes everything for Skye and Elliot. My favorite part of the story is Elliott’s speech at his grandparent’s anniversary party. I especially love Elliott’s heartfelt proposal and how he realizes what real love is all about. I love Skye’s penchant for chocolate icing. I love the epilogue and how it goes above and beyond the normal happily ever after. The Engagement Embargo contains all the things that I have come to love most and expect in a Samantha Chace story, romance, great characters and setting, bittersweet moments and the plot twist that ties it all together. Amazing story. I could not put it down. Highly recommend this wonderful romance. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

In this blog post, I reviewed Samantha Chase’s The Engagement Embargo, the first installment in the Meet Me at the Altar contemporary romance series. This daring romance will make your heart sigh and weep with joy. For Elliott Sullivan, he had four failed relationships that ended up in engagements. After his recent bride on his wedding day left him at the altar, Elliott was tired of the heartache and the dejected rejection, hoping and wishing for the one. That’s when his family had told him to go on an embargo for one year–no dating and no relationships to get him out of this funk. But when his sister’s Josie’s best friend Skylar Jennings came out to drop him food from the canceled reception she became a good listener and a great friend. For Skye, she had the hugest crush on Elliott for the longest time, and had been in love with him for oh so long. But when Josie asked her to help her out with Elliott, she did it as a friend, though they had treated her like family. At first, there was nothing wrong with a casual relationship between friends seeking advice. But after the first kiss led to their first romp, it became a game-changer and a secret romantic relationship. Skye had heard Elliott say he didn’t want the same things she did, when all they had was casual sex and nothing more. Though Elliott had broken the embargo, he had also broken her heart in the same process. In a valiant move, he professed his love for her and claimed her as his own for their fairy tail ending that would sweep you off your feet.

This heartfelt contemporary romance was beautifully written, and oh so moving for a wonderful love story. I cared for both Skylar and Elliott, who had to follow their hearts to find each other and took more than a huge leap of faith. They were both meant to be together and forever. I adored the North Carolina settings and the picturesque scenic locations. The theme of this story is love might sneak up on you right before your eyes.

I rate this awesome contemporary romance, five of five stars, for no reason. If you love endearing romances with a crush on a bestie’s brother’s trope, juicy romantic action, plenty of drama, and lots of suspenseful twists, The Engagement Embargo is the one for you. This is recommended for fans of Robyn Carr, Jill Shalvis, Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Carly Phillips.

I really enjoyed "The Engagement Embargo" by Samantha Chase, a sweet best friend's brother romance, and highly recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy.

Male lead Elliott Sullivan was a total romantic who wanted the fairy tale wedding and happily ever after with the woman of his dreams so badly that he had proposed to four different women by the time he was in his late 20s. His engagements had only lasted long enough to plan a wedding once - just as the story began - but unfortunately for Elliott, his bride left him at the altar for her best friend, who also happened to be officiating the wedding. Humiliated and under pressure from his family to take a break from dating to figure out who he was outside of a relationship, Elliott wanted nothing more than to be left alone.

In the aftermath of the wedding fiasco, Elliott began to lean on his sister Josie's best friend and business partner, wedding planner Skylar (Skye) Jennings, because he believed that his family and friends were treating him differently because of what had happened. Skye had been in love with Elliott for years, but believed that he didn't reciprocate her feelings. As they got to know each other better, Elliott finally started to see Skye in a different light, but he was convinced that marriage was no longer in his future. They became friends with benefits and established rules to keep the relationship from turning serious, but of course, they ended up falling in love anyway. Elliott panicked and pushed Skye away, but would she still be there waiting for him when he finally realized that he wanted love and marriage after all?

Elliott and Skye were incredibly likeable lead characters, and it was easy to root for them both individually and as a couple. I loved the book's secondary characters as well, especially Skye's best friends and business partners, Josie and Leanna. I'm really looking forward to their stories later this year.

Overall, "The Engagement Embargo" was a fun, sweet, and heartwarming story. I loved this book and can't wait for Samantha Chase's next release.

I REALLY enjoyed The Engagement Embargo, the first book in Samantha Chase’s newest series, Meet Me at the Alter. When I first heard about it and read the blurb, I could not wait for it to hit my Kindle. By the way, I LOVED this book so much, I already bought, aaaand LISTENED to the Audible version of this fantastic book!!!
On to my review.
Why, just why?!?! “Why” what you ask? Why are some guys just SOOOOO clueless!!!???
Skylar has loved her best friend Josie’s brother, Elliott, for what seems like her whole life. For crying out loud, he has been engaged 4 times, and now, NOW, he is getting married. And poor Skylar, must stand by and witness the event. Then the unthinkable thing happens. The bride leaves poor Elliott at the alter with…. STOP. Sorry Ladies, I refuse to give anything away. I will say this, you will not believe who declares his love for the bride.
After Elliott’s complete humiliation in front of his family and all the guests, Skylar ends up driving him home. They talk for a long while, and Elliott realizes that he needs to talk his problems out more and asks Skylar to be the one to listen.
I LOVED watching these two come together, seeing the idiot, Elliott, finally wake up to what was in front of him all along. I really wanted to smack Elliott quite several times for his idiocy and give Skylar huge hugs in sympathy.
I really cannot wait to read Leanna story (With this Cake, book 2 in the Meet me at the Alter series). I REALLY want to know why Josie is so put off about relationships, and why Leanna is so shy about them. I do not know who’s story I want to read about more. I just know I want to read them soon…… PLEASE Ms. Chase, write fast.

I was gifted with a copy of this fabulous book for my reading enjoyment and my opinions of the story. As I stated above, I absolutely loved this story, and cannot wait for the rest of the series.
Thank you for reading my review. I know you will love this book as much as I have, so what are you waiting for? Hit that purchase button from your favorite retailer.

Stephannie's 5 Star Review:

Elliott has always wanted to find the right woman, fall in love get married, and have 2.5 kids and a dog. But after his fiancee leaves him at the alter he is heartbroken at another failed attempt at getting married. You see he has asked 4 different women over the years to get married and all have ended badly. But what makes this one so much worse is his family isn't supportive by giving him empathy; instead slaps him with a relationship embargo. They do not want him to date, anyone, for a whole year. He is a grown man why would they do this to him? This puts him on a path of questioning about what he wants in life and everything else.

His sister's best friend Skylar who is a wedding planner becomes his friend and he seeks out her help. They have known each other for 20 years but Elliott quickly realizes that he never really knew her. They start as friends but then he wants more but he questions if he should try another relationship and what about the embargo he is expected to follow.

Skylar has been in love with Elliott in secret for years. So when he comes to her for help she is conflicted because she wants to help and see him happy. But can she be just friends with the guy she is in love with? Will she end up hurt when she realizes he doesn't have those feelings for her? But also what happens if she discovers he is attracted to her? Can she pull off friends with benefits with him and not want more? I really loved this book and times I wanted to smack Elliott and his family for giving him this stupid embargo and I hate how it affected him. He questions what he wanted in life and I feel that they kicked him when he was already down. But maybe he needed to go down this path of indecision to come back out the other side and know what he wants and go for it. I don't know but if you want to find out one-click this one on March 9th.

Elliott and Skylar’s story in The Engagement Embargo, book one in Samantha Chase’s new Meet Me at the Altar series, is an emotional, heartwarming, sister’s best friend tale. Elliott Sullivan loves being in love. He wants a love like his grandparents, who have been married for what seems forever. After this fourth engagement ended at the altar, his friends and family had had enough; no relationships or proposals for at least a year. Not ready to have his heart broken again, he agrees to embrace life as a bachelor; taking a hiatus from women. Needing to figure out what’s wrong with him, he recruits his sister’s best friend for informal counseling assistance. It’s perfect, there’s no way he will fall for her, no matter how many boxes she checks off. Crushing on Elliott for forever, Skylar wasn’t sorry to see his latest relationship implode. When Elliott asks her to help him keep from breaking his dating embargo, she reluctantly agrees. It will give her a chance to put her psychology degree to use. These two have spent time together before with nothing happening; so there shouldn’t be a problem. Except, spending time together, getting to know each other better brings out the chemistry that exists between them. Adhering to his embargo would be no problem except Elliott’s time with Skye was making him realize what true love really was as well as that the perfect girl was actually in front of him along.

Ms. Chase wrote an amazing, heartwarming and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, amusing banter, and an endearing cast of secondary characters giving Elliott and Skye a chance at love, happiness and the possibility of a forever together. I highly recommend The Engagement Embargo to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

The Engagement Embargo by Samantha Chase is the first book in the Meet Me at the Altar series. Elliot Sullivan loves being in love but after four failed engagements, his friends and family put their foot down. They demand he has no dates, no relationships or proposals for at least a year. He reluctantly agrees and asks his sister’s best friend to keep him distracted. Skylar Jennings has had a crush on him for a long time. When Elliot asks for her help, she can’t help but agree. They spent time together and nothing will come from it as he definitely doesn’t see her as she sees him. As they spend time together, Elliot realizes that sticking to the embargo is harder than he thought because he is wondering if the perfect woman had been in front of him this entire time.
The Engagement Embargo is a sweet best friend's older brother/secret romance story. The story moves at a nice pace but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. It took a while but eventually I came to care for Skylar and Elliot. I wish there was a bit more romance, more banter, more heat. However, it was still a nice romance. It is a dual point of view between Skylar and Elliot which is unique, I think, for a romance novel. Usually readers do not get the male’s point of view. I enjoyed that Elliot had to learn the lesson that being alone doesn’t mean you are lonely . He also sees how one sided his previous relationships were, once he starts to truly hang out with Skylar. If you enjoy sweet romance stories, you will enjoy The Engagement Embargo.

It's always exciting to start a new series with an author you’ve found you can trust with your romantic heart. Meet Me at the Altar is a series centered on three best friends who own a wedding services company. Each is single and they have varying views on love and soul mates, but for Skylar Jennings it's a little more challenging.

Elliott Sullivan is in love with the idea of love, but he's hoping that the fourth time is the charm. Until his fiancée leaves him standing at the altar to run off with her best friend. Elliott's family decides it's time to step in, and they ban him from being in another relationship for a year. They think he needs time to figure out who he is on his own before jumping into love again.

Of course Skylar doesn’t count. She's been Elliott's sister's best friend most of their life and is practically family. She's safe, and Elliott finds her easy to talk to, so spending time with her may be a good thing for him. Except that Skylar has been in love with Elliott for years. She's watched him fall in love four times now, and even planned his wedding. Things are about to get awkward.

Low on angst but full of heart, this sweet, witty read will have you glued to the pages. These characters are authentic and loveable, and they'll find a place in your heart before you know it. Humorous and heartfelt with a touch of heat, this beach-worthy read is the best kind of escape.

I was excited to see a new release from Samantha Chase as I always know I am in for a treat. Her latest series has started with a great book with an interesting twist.

Elliott has a romantic soul, and he tends to fall in love at the drop of a hat; but he is discovering that he may be more in love with being in love than with the women he has proposed to. After being left at the altar, his family confronts him and imposes what they call the “Engagement Embargo.” He is to go a year without becoming engaged.

Skyler and her two friends (one of whom is Elliott’s sister) own a wedding planning business together and she has watched Elliott stumble his way through his relationships from afar. Little does he know that she is in love with him and has been for some time. It breaks her heart a little bit more each time he falls for the wrong girl.

As Elliott faces this imposed embargo, he leans on Skyler (as a friend) to help him sort out why his relationships keep failing. Skyler has a degree in psychology and puts some of what she has learned to help him in this endeavor. The more time they spend together, feelings for her come to the surface but he is afraid to act on them.

It took me awhile to get into the book and the whole idea of an embargo was a bit strange to me; but the more I read the more I enjoyed the story. Since this is the first of the series, I am looking forward to what Samantha has planned for the next book!

I just love when Samantha Chase writes a new book. She really understands what her audience is looking for in a great story. The magic she creates with her words is just perfect. I love the towns and the characters she creates. I love how her readers can relate to the story.

In The Engagement Embargo we get introduced to a new series. Elliott and Skylar have know each other forever. Skylar is like family. Skylar is Skylar is best friends with Elliott's sister and has been in love with Elliott forever. Elliot falls in love easy and often. He has had four failed engagements. His family decides that Elliott need to find himself first before committing to a long term relationship again only to have it fail. So for one year he can not be seriously involved with anyone.

I love the plot of the story and the characters. I love the chemistry Elliott and Skylar have for each other. I loved seeing them go through their journey. I had many heartfelt moments that took my breath away and captivated my heart and soul. I did not want The Engagement Embargo to end. Sadly it did. I have since reread it a second time. Samantha Chase gave her readers a book filled with captivating moments. Samantha Chase gave us a great story full of love and hope and wonder. I am looking forward to the next book in his series. Phenomenal read that filled my heart with hope.

5 Stars from me for The Engagement Embargo by Samantha Chase. Insta-re-read of the highlighted passeges … which was nearly the whole book!

Outside if the re-read, the reason for the 5 stars is the terrific characters and storyline … classic Samantha Chase! The Engagement Embargo is an entertaiing, easy to read tale that will pull you in from the start.

Elliott Sullivan is on an embargo of relationships and proposals for a year … it comes on the heels of his latest relationship that blew up … literally at the altar. In addition to family and friends who were witnesses to the event, was Skylar Jennings, a wedding planner and friend of the family who has had a crush on him since as long as she knew him.

Elliott and Skylar become close as he looks to get help from her, using her psychology degree … skills she uses everyday as co-owner with her friends Lea and Josie of Meet Me at the Altar Wedding and Catering Services. With Elliot’s friends Tyler, Alex, and Jared, the Meet Me at The Altar series is off to a great start! Each of the friends are just the sort you wish you had in your circle.

If you’re looking for a new series, with characters who are realistic, interesting, and engaging, look no further! Download The Engagement Embargo today!
