29 books422 followersZahir Raihan (Bangla: জহির রায়হান) was a Bangladeshi novelist, writer and filmmaker. He is perhaps best known for his documentary Stop Genocide made during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
He was an active worker of the Language Movement of 1952. The effect of Language Movement was so high on him that he made his legendary film Jibon Theke Neya based on it. In 1971 he joined in the Liberation War of Bangladesh and created documentary films on this great event.
He disappeared on January 30, 1972 while trying to locate his brother, the famous writer Shahidullah Kaiser, who was captured and killed by the Pakistan army. Evidences have been found that he was killed by some armed Bihari collaborators and disguised soldiers of Pakistan Army.

যদি সাদা চোখে পড়া যায়, এক অজপাড়াগাঁয়ের কিছু হতদরিদ্র অথচ আত্মসম্মানে টইটুম্বুর মানুষের ইচ্ছাশক্তি দিয়ে নিজেদের জন্য এক স্কুল বানানোর ঘটনা।তাদেরকে প্রগতিশীলভাবে জাগ্রত করার জন্য শনু পণ্ডিত নিজের জীবনের কেবল বছর পঁচিশই নয়, ঢেলে দিয়েছিলেন নিজের স্বপ্ন, ভালোবাসা, আশা- অর্থ ও স্বার্থলোভী চৌধুরীর নামে করা এই স্কুলের পেছনে।কিন্তু নানা বিপত্তিতে যখন সেই স্কুল বন্ধ,তা পুননিরমানে শনু পণ্ডিতের কাঁধে আস্থার হাত রেখে কেউ দাঁড়ায়না।না চৌধুরী, না দেশের সরকার।কিন্তু তাতে দমেনা গ্রামবাসী।নিজেদের অল্প অল্প কন্ট্রিবিউশন,অনেকখানি আবেগ,অজস্র আশা ঢেলে নিজেদের হাতে বানিয়ে ফেলে বেড়াঘেরা এক স্কুল।চৌধুরীর নাম লাগানো ফলকটা টেনে খুলে তাতে লাগানো হয় "শনু পণ্ডিতের ইস্কুল" নামের উজ্জ্বল ফলক।
জহির রায়হান ছিলেন আন্দোলনের লেখক এবং খুব সাধারণ ভাষায় তিনি স্বৈরাচার এবং অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলে গেছেন।পাকিস্তানি প্রেক্ষাপটে লেখা মাত্র তিন পৃষ্ঠার এই ছোট গল্পে তিনি দেখিয়েছেন বাঙালিরা ঠিক কেমন করে নিপীড়িত,ঠিক কতটা বঞ্চিত।জুলু চৌধুরী এবং সরকারের মধ্য দিয়ে তিনি পাকিস্তানের সামরিক শাসনের একটা খণ্ডচিত্র প্রকাশ করেন।একই সাথে তিনি বাঙালিদের দমে যেতে নিষেধ করেন।আমিন বেপারি কিংবা আকরম হাজির মতো নিজেদের ভেতরের মানুষ বিরোধিতা করলেও তাদের পাশ কাটিয়ে পাকিস্তান সরকারকে মধ্যাঙ্গুলি দেখিয়ে গড়তে হবে নিজেদের আবেগ-মুক্ত বাংলা।হ্যাঁচকা টানে ফেলে দিতে হবে "পাকিস্তান" নামের ট্যাগ।
চমৎকার মেটাফোর দিয়ে সাজানো এক বিদ্রোহী ছোটগল্প।দশ মিনিটে পড়ে আজীবন মনে রাখার মতো তিনটে পৃষ্ঠা।
