Melinda Metz grew up in San Jose, California. People sometimes ask if she knows the way there. She kinda does, but she has an off-kilter sense of direction, so to be confident of arriving, it's better to consult some kind of navigational device.

Her mother tried to teach her to read in kindergarten, but Melinda had no interest. She also had no interest in learning to write her name. (FYI, when Melinda was in kindergarten it was all about finger-painting, play time, and naps.) Eventually, she mastered both and even majored in English at San Jose State University.

After college, Melinda moved to Manhattan to seek her fortune, which involved learning to identify fruits and vegetables while working at a grocery store,
making $2.73 working backstage for an off-off Broadway play (her part of the box-office profits), and editing books.

Melinda and the lovely and talented Laura J. Burns pretty much became unofficial writing partners when they were editors at the same company. They teamed up to brainstorm story ideas, and at some point their brains fused in some key places. Later they worked on the Roswell High book series, Laura developing and editing the series, Melinda writing.

That series led to Melinda and Laura, now an official writing team, writing two TV pilots, moving to L.A. to work on the Roswell TV show, and briefly living in Toronto while on the writing staff of 1-800-Missing. They both continue to write books, together and separately.

Laura and Melinda's new book, Sanctuary Bay, a YA thriller, is coming out in January 2016. It's set at an ultra-exclusive private school on an island. Once a student is accepted to the school, they must stay until graduation. No visits home, no contact with the outside world at all. Find out why in January!

The first four books in Melinda's new middle-grade mystery series,S.M.A.R.T.S., are out now. The books involve a group of kids in a makerspace club and they all have lots of science info. For all the cool geeks out there!

Melinda lives in Concord, NC with her dog, Scully (yes, she loves the woo-woo so much she named her dog after a kickass X-Files character). She has never regretted learning to read and write her name.

This is definitely not a cozy mystery. I enjoyed the cat MacGyver and his kittens very much. The rest of the story I found to be boring. There was alot of well this bad thing happened so all dating is bad, and everytime someone does something it's wrong and hurts someone. The only reason the thief was caught was because of the cat. #MacOnAHotTinRoof #NetGalley

Phew, I liked this one much more than the previous one. Mac, again, really put everybody on their feet at Storybook Court. Being the real MacGyver that he is. And, it, has, KITTENS! Which makes it instantly better. Hopefully, we'll get another story about Mac, really curious how the cat cafe turns out. Meow.

This is the 3rd in series of the story of the kleptomaniac cat MacGyver “Mac” the cat. These are pure catnip to cat lovers and adorable from start to finish. Mac is wonderful as a main charcter with a large personality that is always in trouble and has his paws in many situations that have the reader laughing out loud.

This time he has found some orphaned kittens and he raises them until they are old enough to be placed in new homes. The antics of the kittens with Mac are adorable and endearing to cat lovers. There is a new couple that gets together because of the kittens thanks to Mac and his matchmaking ! Mac also is concerned in this book about his human Jamie who is acting weird and doesn’t smell like herself.

Cat lovers will love returning to the world of Mac. I look forward to the next in series . Thank you to the publisher for the ARC. My review opinion is my own. I recommend this series for all who are owned by and adore cats ! Pure catnip for readers.!

Another charming story about a matchmaking cat burglar and the humans he takes care of. In this book, he also takes care of 4 kittens for extra cuteness!

Lieve leesgroet, Elsa.

I have four cats that I love dearly. Each with their own quirks and all with very different personalities. Needless to say, I was anxious to read Mac on a Hot Tin Roof by Melinda Metz.

MacGyver (the cat, not the guy) will tickle your funny bone and touch your heart. On the one paw a cat burglar, on the other a match-maker. His antics had me giggling out loud,

While out adventuring through Storybook Court, MacGyver discovers five tiny, abandoned kittens. He carries them, be by one to safety. Where he cleans and snuggles them all. He will have to find them good homes, but in the meantime, they are his responsibility. Caring for the adorable furballs will be much more difficult now that his owners have him on house arrest. Mac is determined to find out the identity of the real thief.

Gosh, this kitty has quite the to-do list. Care for the kittens, without getting caught, find them a home, catch a crook, and play matchmaker. Wow. But Mac manages to it all with style, grace, personality, and oh so much heart. If you enjoy books that are light, fast reads that provide a few hours of escape from our active, often hectic lives -- you'll love Mac.

DNF'd @ pg. 70

I haven't read any of the other books in this series or any thing else by Melinda Metz, and I can officially say now that I'm not interested. These just aren't my style. I didn't care at all about the human characters or what they were getting up to, but I will say that MacGyver (Mac for short) is a good kitty. The far and few between segments from his perspective are fun, but not enough to slog my way through everything else from those pesky humans.

This was a cute book but I wish it was more about Mac and the kittens and their mischievousness rather than Serena and Erik’s annoying “high school” romance. I found neither of them to be likeable characters, in fact, I found Erik super irritating and juvenile in his behaviors.

Mac on a Hot Tin Roof... Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I love Tennessee Williams, I love everything about that man and have made it my lifelong goal to read his collected works along side Shakespeare’s collected works. Any book in reference to Shakespeare or Tennessee, I will find and I will read.

Often these books aren’t GREAT... they’re considered “between the chapters picks.” Which essentially declares these books as easy, light reads to help you make the transition from one heavy read to the next. Therefore, coming off the Stephen King “It” high, I decided to pick up this little book and give it a spin.

My initial thoughts while reading this book were “this crazy cat lady is attempting to make an adult Garfield book” and “she’s old enough to write a book but young enough to have ‘Valley Girl’ oozing out of these pages.” It felt like the language was brought down to a young adult novel.

Enough of the technicals, let’s get to the story:
Mac is a cat. Mac is a cat with a preening, superior attitude and feels that “his human” has to cater to him every moment of every day. Within the first few pages the plot is established, within the first few pages I figured out where the author was going with this plot and accurately guessed everything (I’m assuming) was meant to be plot twists later on. The story itself seemed serendipitous to me, I could practically see the author sitting at her desk thinking “hmm, what bad thing can I have happen next that tops the other bad things that have already happened?” Continued that theory for the duration of the story.

I thought the idea of the story was cute, it wasn’t exactly creative considering it was a lot of references and spin-offs, but as I said earlier, it was pretty much the definition of a “between the chapters pick.”

This is a fun series where Mac, a cat, acts as a matchmaker and neighbourhood watch. This is the third Mac book I have read and enjoyed them all. They can be read as standalone stories, but there are references to previous books that would act as spoilers if you wanted to go back and read the previous books. In this story, Mac has his paws full. He came across a litter of abandoned kittens and he takes them in. He is also trying to find homes for them within the neighbourhood. As this is happening, there are also robberies happening and Mac is being blamed based on his previous exploits. No Mac book is complete without him sniffing out lonely souls and bringing them together so there is another match made as well.

These books are told from Mac's POV. They are fun and easy to read. With a bit of mystery, romance and community, this was an enjoyable read for me. This story has themes of community, friendship and pets. I am not a cat lover, but I do love stories about animals and this one fits the bill nicely. An enjoyable story to read on a summer day by the pool.

This is easily the pick of the litter in this three book series. It's really more of a 3.7 rather than a 4, but I'll give it credit for improvement over the others. It's a pretty standard romance, but this time enhanced by Mac's taking a litter of abandoned kittens under his wing-- er, paw. I noticed in the acknowledgements that the author thanked some folks with helping with cat psychology and behavior-- it showed. I had the feeling through the first two books that the author didn't know cats; he's concerned with finding humans a "pack mate," i.e. a mate. While cats are more social than dog lovers give them credit for, I still don't buy this cat setting up his people into packs, nor constantly referring to a dog as a bonehead-- to me, that's the way dog people see cats. Anyway, this one is cute and is a definite improvement over the others, hence the rating.

Mac the Cat is brilliant!

I have been enjoying this series very much, mostly told from the viewpoint of a unique cat, MacGyver, aka "Mac". The books have humor, mystery, and romance, usually orchestrated by Mac. I would have given this book a better rating except I absolutely hated Erik, the love interest in this book. Serena could do so much better.

Well this was a silly little book and I don't know how it ended up in our bookshelf. Cute story with a cat and some romance, and apparently the 3rd one in a series, of which I probably won't read.

A sweet lighthearted read with a cat that will steal your heart.

MacGyver “Mac” the kleptomaniac match-making cat is back again. This time he has found some orphaned kittens and he raises them until they are old enough to be placed in new homes, which Mac hand chooses for each one. There is also a new couple that gets together because of the kittens, Serena and Erik. Meanwhile Mac tries to figure out why his person, Jamie, is acting weird and doesn’t smell like herself. There is also a thief loose at Storybook Court and all fingers start to point at Mac because of his past reputation.

This book had me hooked from the start just like the rest of the books in the series. Mac is such a cool cat. Even though he can be a bit mischievous, he always has good intentions. The author has a way of telling the story that it feels like you’re right there as the story plays out. This is the kind of book that would make a really cute tv show or movie.

This is actually the third book in a series and though it can be read on its own, I would strongly recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you get to know all of the characters better. Plus, you don’t want to miss out on any of Mac’s antics.

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cute story but overall a bit of a boring read. It was a split POV with maybe 4 characters serving as the narrator. One of them being the cat Mac. His sections were adorable! They were my favorite part of the book, and I loved all the funny ways the author wrote from the cats perspective. The main male character Erik was emotionally immature. He had one heartbreak and then assumed all women were like his ex which got very annoying.

The main female Serena was pleasant. She was passionate but realistic and I thought she was well written. Her story tried to prove the point that you don’t always have to follow the glitzy crazy dreams and you can just do what you want with your life. And Erik’s did too with him choosing to stay a beat cop over interviewing for detective.

I’d recommend this book for a cat lover just so they could spice up their tbr and read something that has a cat’s perspective on things.

While it was a light read, this book proves that this series should've ended after book 1, when the concept was fresh and funny. All the books are predictable but after three books it just feels like a paint-by-the-numbers. It took me days to get through this book, even though it's short and easy to read.

Also the other books in this series had at least compelling MC's, in this book we have a grown up man who's not over his ex and acts like he's 15 with his new crush, and a woman who is the epitome of a manic pixie dream girl. Mac - who should be the MC - has too few chapters from his POV to make up for this.

Really glad I borrowed this one from the library.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, but not this one. I guess I am annoyed because a cat is pushed aside for a baby. That happens so often in real life that I was annoyed to read about it in fiction. Mac is a very unique cat that brings people together and he continues to do that in this book. He also helps some motherless kittens. It just made me feel bad that he had to deal with a new family addition even though the writer makes it sound all peachy keen in the end. Sadly, that is usually not the case.

I would like to thank Melinda Metz, Net Galley and Kensington Books for this book in exchange for an honest review.

The story of MacGyver (Mac) was cute, but not cute enough to carry the whole book. Unfortunately the rest if the story was boring. I wanted to tell the two main people to just suck it up and grow up. There were several other people in the neighborhood but they didn't add enough to the story to remember their names. If the author had put in more about the thefts and the people instead of the long commercial shoot it would have been more interesting.

A little deceiving based on the description on the back of the book. Less about the cat solving a crime, more about a romantic relationship between two people. I felt there were too many side characters with no character development, so I was confused as to who we were talking about at times. It wasn’t a long book or hard read, but could have been even shorter without the unnecessary filler.

What an adorable front cover! The Mac and the kittens parts of the book were excellent. The people part, which unfortunately took up most of the story, was quite dull and overloaded with rehashing the guy's last painfull breakup.

Not my normal genre I read but this was a cute book. Took me a while to finish as I wasn't as intrigued as I would have liked. The chapters were quite lengthy and switched perspective of characters by chapters. A little hard to follow at times
