Fun short novel. Viable dinosaur eggs from a previously unknown species are found in a very unexpected place. Using surrogates the eggs are hatched and six sapient dinosaurs come into the world. Their adventures take them into multiple occupations and far into space.

This is an optimistic look at our future. Very enjoyable.

George’s life as a sapient, saurian person in a Space-Age world, instead of a hunter-gatherer in a doomed tropical jungle, began with a mineral-survey expedition.

Geologist Mike Patel sought minor planets bearing mineral treasures.

Piloted into Jupiter's Trojan Asteroids, he and pilot Malala Llewellyn found little, until a worldlet turned up with a different kind of treasure. They uncovered a castaway part of a world, lost long ago in geologic time. Pirates threatened to steal their discovery. With help from Earth, they and the science team saved the frozen life they stumbled across.

The sapient dinosaurs they discovered are every bit as clever as humans, although their culture was cut off before it could develop advanced technology. They're regarded as Zoo animals, at first. Hatched into the Space Age, can they cope with a world 66 million years up-time from their parents? Is there a better world more fitted to the needs they evolved an eon ago?
