When death comes on the wings of a Crow, she never leaves empty-handed.

Aoife Kelly has always lived in the shadow of her twin brother's magic.
Who could compete when your brother has been chosen by the Gods, after all?

They may be siblings, but Aoife's twin is at the head of the Order, while Aoife is trapped in a life of drudgery amongst the other servants of the very same Order.

Samhain approaches and a strange prophecy claims that the Morrigan-- goddess of Death, Darkness, and War--is due to arrive on the heels of this year's Wild Hunt, desperate for a Fae vessel.

When the respective leaders of the Fae in the Human Realities come to celebrate the arrival of the goddess, Aoife finds herself in the path of four of the most powerful men in England.

Aoife has no idea why these dangerous and elusive Fae have started to pay attention to her, but she has a feeling that there is more than meets the eye.

How will Aoife handle her four new suitors? Especially when the Morrigan has set her sights on them for herself?

** Wild Hunt is a Standalone Fae/Paranormal romance. This book contains schemes of MFM as well as MM. It is set in Victorian London in the late 1800s. This novel is a slow-burn romance. **

I like it! The world building and the characters are interesting. The dialogue was good too! Issues:
-the editing. It’s quite rough in places!
-this is a standalone. I feel like this would have been an excellent start to a series but since it’s not I’m not very satisfied with the heroine’s growth.

Wild Hunt delivered a wild ride of magic, mayhem and a slow burn RH romance. Everything about the story from the setting to the narrative the author built was really wonderful IMO…. or so I thought until I got to the end. Sadly the end for me was just really really disappointing. First what should have been an epic battle of magic and the crushing of the books villain ends before it begins and even transitions into the epilogue like the slamming of a door in your face. I felt kind of blindsided that everything just stopped and off we go to a HEA? It The epilogue then felt off kilter and ruined after so much buildup and rage. Then the villains identity is revealed and it just fell all kinds of flat and gave way to his being dealt with way too gently. I wanted blood and lighting to rain down from the heavens, alas it did not. The heroine has lived a life of servitude since she was eight. Abandoned by her brother as he gained his Magic’s she’s been all alone and treated like hell for years. Yet even with the mean girl characters she rooms with she never actually gets any revenge from a single person whose wronged her. I’m not one to usually enjoy the world of the Fae, it’s just not usually my thing but I really did love the book, I only wish the ending played out way way differently. No cliffhanger and a HEA with her 4 heroes!

Not a fan of cults and don’t really like fae unless it’s the one-off guy in a harem. Like Blood sugar it’s the cult theme, so felt very contained. Four guys and a slow burn sort of mystery. Towards the end everything felt obvious. The meat thing was gross, and Mary-belle got what she deserved. Barb was an entertaining character. The bonus chapter was interesting, more of a prologue for the guys. I liked that the POV changed. No jealousy from the guys but has mean girls. Would be interesting to see what Effie is capable of now.

I enjoyed the hell out of this book until the last 20%—which made little sense (respective to the build-up and…uh, the plot) and felt like a bit of a cop-out. I didn’t sense much growth from Effie personally—she was still the shy, “look the other way” MC at the end, and it felt like the plot happened at her rather than to her.

The author’s writing is wonderful and well-paced, but I couldn’t get over how unsatisfied I felt with the ending of the book and the lack of page-time devoted to the MC developing a relationship with the other characters. The author touts this book as a slow-burn, but it feels as if Effie has only begun to get to know them before the book ends. Too much time devoted to Effie being a servant and doing servant-things (we get it, she works hard and is hungry a lot) and not enough to Effie getting to know the guys. I think this book could have benefited from being a duology, where Effie gets into some hijinks with the guys to achieve the larger goal of bringing down the Order and preventing the coming of the Morrigan.

I have to say that I don't like the cover because it looks creepy.

And I also want to complain that THERE IS NO TABLE OF CONTENTS. This makes it hard to navigate through the book, especially if you want to go back to a specific chapter.

The story itself, it's interesting, veryyyyyyyy slow burn. I didn't even feel the men were that interested in Aoife romantically at all, even when Cillian announced his intention of wedding her. Like Aoife, I thought he was joking at first. Even when they realise that she's the fated mate of each of them, they don't seem particularly loving or protective. They do help her and heal her when she's injured, but it didn't seem like anything that they wouldn't have done for any other person in her position -- it didn't seem like they were doing it because it was her and they had a compulsion to ensure her well-being.

And Aoife... I wasn't sure how I felt about her. She seems naïve and young. She's in her early twenties, in the book, so I suppose her naïveté is normal, but it was still frustrating how she wavered between her loyalty to Father Kincaid, who was obviously NOT a good guy, and trusting the four men. The story is written mostly in her POV in first-person... until first-person didn't work for the author anymore, and so the author had to turn to third-person to include other POV towards the end. That's annoying. I feel like authors should be committed to the POV they want to use, and if it doesn't work, then just use third-person throughout to incorporate everyone's POV! Why do so many indie authors do this!!!

There were a lot of secrets in the beginning, secrets that Aoife kept and also secrets that the men didn't reveal. These took time to be unveiled and kept me reading. I knew Aoife's secrets, of course, since we had her POV, but I didn't know the mens' secrets, so where the men were concerned, things only became clear in retrospect. I was a bit impatient and frustrated when Aoife took her time deciding whether to trust the men.

I was confused about this "Gods coming to live in the Human Realities by inhabiting a person's body" thing. I felt like there needed a bit more background or world-building here, because if it's a god or goddess, why would they need to take over a human's body? Aren't they all-powerful? And why would they need 'help' to cross over from one realm to another? Couldn't they just cross over at will? Or were they being forced to come over by the magic? But wouldn't that make them kinda impotent gods and goddesses? Another thing is this information that .

The final thing that I felt needed more explanation is this "summoning" that brings the Fae in touch with their magic and elevates a normal Fae to Sidhe status. Aoife was unsummoned, yet she had some powers which an unsummoned Fae shouldn't have, and it was never explained why she was different from the others. To my knowledge, by the end of the book she's still unsummoned, so I'm not sure how she's able to do what she does. Plus, the mark of the crow on her shoulder is also never really explained. Presumably she was marked by The Morrigan, but why? What's the purpose of the mark? It doesn't seem to really do anything unless someone who's using magic is touching it.

I also felt that the book ended with some minor plot threads left hanging, particularly in the case of Augustine. Augustine isn't fae, so his magic is finite. When he has used it up, he'll live a human lifespan, and Aoife doesn't want that. She speculates on ways to help him stay immortal, but that issue is left unresolved as the book ends. Another unresolved thing is how the men feel after Something Happens which deeply affects Aoife's life. The story jumps ahead and we don't see how they react to it, or even how Aoife herself feels about it.

It's an interesting story and the plot is not the usual straightforward, predictable plot. But I felt in terms of romance, it was lacking because I didn't really see the men act like a fated mate would normally act. Like, Virgil politely asking Aoife if he can court her. Where's the passion? The pull towards each other? The recognition that they belong together? Being fiercely protective of each other and unable to stay apart? This aspect of it was the most disappointing.

This author did Puck dirty.

This Puck bares only the smallest resemblance to what I would call a Puck. He’s got the magical ability of illusions, but he’s thoroughly villainous, conniving, tyrannical, intimidating, and vindictive. Which could all be saved with a plot twist but instead he’s just a Really Bad Guy.

I like most of the characters and was invested in the story. The pacing went well for the first two thirds of the book, but the ending was rushed. The balance between romantic subplot and plot was skewed heavily towards the plot and the author tries to excuse this by calling it a Slow Burn which amounts to the fivesome not consummating their polycule until the Epilogue, which by then it feels like an afterthought.

Also, there’s an alternate POV after the Epilogue which I think was cut because it was so drastically different from the story told from the MC’s POV. I wish the author had gone that route instead: downgraded the MC, told the story from five points of view with the emphasis on the small task force of arch-fae who unexpectedly find their communal mate while on a mission for the human queen to uncover a mystery within a cult of displaced Fae hiding among humans in the time of the Irish Potato Famine. Still would’ve read it and definitely would have liked it better.

The story has a lot of potential that it just fell short of.

I was a little unsatisfied about the unanswered questions at the end of the standalone such as , but overall, it was an entertaining read, and I enjoyed the bonus extra prequel story at the end of the book.

My only problem with the book is I wanted more lol. Aoife is a delight and a conundrum all at the same. She’s learned to be unnoticed after her brother became a vessel for a god. With a prophecy looming and visiting Fae life is turned on it’s head. I love the bond that grows between Aoife, Cillian, Virgil, Auggie, & George. I want more. There was such good character development.

I've read and absolutely enjoyed two previous standalone books from this author, so I was excited to read this book. It was a good read, but I didn't love this story as much as I did the previous books. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline, but something was missing from this story for me. There were times where I wished that Aoife's character didn't come off as weak, especially when it came to Mary-Belle. I did, however, enjoy the weird friendship that Aoife had with Barb. Barb definitely showed up when it mattered. I also liked that all of the men were different types of fae's and a witch, but I liked how they fit together. This was a slow-burn type of story, but it was more slow burn on the sex part than it was on the romance. The romance was missing for me; I really wish there was more romance. There was also little to no action in this story, but it was written in a way that kept me hooked. I love this author's writing style so yes; I will be reading more of her books. I liked Aoife, Virgil, George, Cillian and George story even though it wasn't my favorite and I wish the ending was a little better, but it was still a good read.

This is probably 3.5 stars for me, but I didn't want to dock it the entire star.

This is my second Haze book in as many days...I just wrapped up with Life and Limb which had an absolutely badass FMC, which is probably why this one felt incredibly lackluster to me. I kept waiting for her to come into her power, whatever that may have been, but even when she did she was still just a backseat driver. Just really disappointing and felt like we missed out on a chunk of character growth.

Similarly, there was tension and some non-group scenes throughout the book which was appreciated, but the only group scene we got was at the very end, and it felt like the author went "oops, one chapter left and I forgot this is a RH, lemme throw a scene in." There's slow burn, and then there's tossing something in in the very last pages.

Anyway, it was a fun story and I definitely will read another Haze book...maybe even next. I'm just not sure the FMC really spoke to me in this one, and I'm upset that we don't get a "happy ending with an extra bow" for one of the MMCs. It feels like it is set up for a second book but as far as I know, this is advertised as a standalone.

This was a fascinating read, however, felt too short. Too many questions left unanswered. It’s a standalone but reads like a first book in a series.

Effie is a fae who is unsummoned, a fae who hasn’t come into her powers. Her and the other unsommoned are treated like servants, who live to the whims of those fae with powers among a sort of cult. Her life is complicated by her twin brother, who has a God living within him. The whole premise of this book is about a cult trying to call forth another God to live within one of the powerful fae.
The four MMCs are sent by the Queen to investigate and stop another God from inhabiting the body of a fae. The MMCs take a liking to Effie, and they investigate together.

I enjoyed the magic system, the MMCs and the plot. Editing was definitely needed, and some aspects felt rushed. We get a big development at the end of the book, and then it’s finished. The blurb says it’s a HEA, but it doesn’t read like one.
Overall enjoyable, albeit a bit unpolished.

Lots of potential

** 3.5 stars **
This story has such an interesting way about it that I would love to read about more adventures on this unexpected group. While Ms. Haze does an amazing job usually with her unique world-building in each book, I think this book needed just a little bit more backstory to clear up some hazy bits (no pun intended). Like, do all humans know about the Fae? It's stated that they took the boat over, but why didn't they go back to the Fae realm? The reader gets little tidbits throughout the story, but there is still a lot left for free interruption.

Overall, it's a well-planned story with an intriguing plot. The author left enough little possible nuggets in the story that if she likes, hopefully she can work them into another book (I'm game).

Hmmm

This book is very very slow, especially for a stand alone. I don't mind a slow burn but the slowness here includes the plot.

If one wanted to read a dissertation about the Fae this would be it. I was 50/50 about the "history" lesson, on one hand it was interesting, in an I'm bored and have nothing better to do way. On the other taking it from a novel point of view, it's severely lacking in engagement.

I did not connect with any of the characters, they were a back drop to the lessons of what powers do what. What does the heroine even look like? at 70% I couldn't tell you.

What put an end to this for me was Aoife refusing to answer questions about the "hand print" , being evasive about Barb but ultimately her lack of romantic interest in the MMCs. At 70% I should care one way or another what happens to her.

I don't.

It kept me intrigued and interested enough to finish it. I just feel like I was left wanting. This book definitely felt more like a second draft. One that needed more scenes written out, more conversation between the characters, because I finished the book and have so many questions. I wish the book had been much longer, so everyone could have gotten more answers and more character development. It very much felt anticlimactic at the end as well. And nobody really explained anything. Ever.

I just wish there had been more to the substance. The story and characters and world were so good. It could've been amazing if it had been longer.

Read for the B.A.N.G. Book Club 2022 Challenge - Standalone category

This could do with editing in spots. As far as reverse harems go (one of my favourite genres) this was disappointing, especially for a standalone... the whole book was slow burn, slow build, and then all the action happened in the last 10%. It was disappointing to only get a single consumation scene, and that was in the epologue. The book's name and cover seemed to promise something so much more. Surprisingly, I didn't find the book boring - the characters and plot were interesting and caught my attention - but I was teased with the promise of an epic romance and left unsatisfied.

i think i need stop with books that say slow burn bec they never deliver. anyway i like the magic system and the world. the characters were tolerable but i wish the female character wasn’t so clueless and didn’t keep going to places by herself esp since she’s being targeted. the romance was was not the best but i finished it so there is that.

the writing was weird bec it went from old timey to current day speech back and forth which ruined the vibe. also introducing other povs at fifty four percent when it was only one pov that whole duration? its a no no for me

basically it was okay

Why not make it a series

The charecters were great, the society structures interesting, the story intriguing and the sex did not distract from, but was a catalist within the plot. It would make a great series for several reasons. For example Augustine needs a body buddy, then all the activities Barb wants to do, and meeting the families and the wedding(s) all could leave to multiple adventures and books. Definitely would recommend.

Just wow. Amazing read

It stated it was a slow burn and honestly I wasn’t sure if I’d like the story. However the characters and the suspense on figuring out what was happening made the slow burn worth it. I would definitely consider this a historical paranormal since it’s based during Queen Victoria’s reign but man this book is worth the read and you’ll fall for the characters.

My copy needed a LOT of editing. For example, some two characters are supposed to talk about one thing, but they talk about two. Items disappear and then appear without characters retrieving them, without any quest to bring it back or even mentioning anything like that. Some questions were left unanswered.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the book, the plot, the characters and would love to see this author's journey and progress.

Surprisingly Good Read

I really liked the protagonist in this book. She was real and brave and herself straight through. The writing was mature and it moved at the right pace! Great book to read if you’re not looking for a YA with teen drama. This is a book for grown paranormal readers lol.

I really liked this book and enjoyed learning some Celtic mythology! All the characters were pretty cool- wish I could see some character art for that. Nice twist at the end on the bad guy..should've seen it coming but I didn't. I liked the little bit of m/m in there too. The book cover art is also beautiful.

Loved this!

Again Michaela has written a really brilliant tale of the old gods and the Fae courts — with a twist of course! Loved all these characters, loved the storyline, the whole thing really. Read this! And her other books too. On a Michaela Haze binge atm and they are all excellent! Solid 5 stars. Highly recommend. HEA.

A wild hunt of a book

I purchased this book a while ago but failed to read it right away, what a mistake! This tale delves more into the fae history then I'd seen before but I love it. While a RH story there really isn't much spice to the book but I didn't mind as it was such an enthralling read. Definitely check this out.

I loved the world. the main characters were likeable. Some plotpoints disappointed me and the mistery was to obvious. the male leads didn't do enough, they were just there to be loved and spell out the background story and gor a little reality check.

i liked the book but it was flawed.

Unique story

I don’t run across many unique stories in the genre anymore, this one is and with the added bonus action and little relationship drama. Not super hot and heavy, but what steam is there is very hot, and the story is good!

🌶🌶 — Weird book but the premise was interesting. Essentially there are light and dark fae and gods have the ability to take individuals as vessels or avatars. I thought it was good but the last fifth of the book needed work. I didn’t find the ending very satisfying.

Pros:

- I really like the world and story building
- Decent chemistry
- Pacing for the first 80% or so was a perfect slow boil

Cons:

- Editing is rough
- Last 20% was a fizzle - I felt cheated, it was basically 'here's the villain smash cut to black HEA'
