Mutts #Treasury 1

Everyday MUTTS: A Comic Strip Treasury

Rate this book
With Schulz gone and Watterson retired, Patrick McDonnell is the heir apparent to the comic strip crown. Long may he reign."
Everyday MUTTS marks the 11th book of the award-winning MUTTS strip. It is the follow-up to Patrick McDonnell's successful collection as well as his first storybook, The Gift of Nothing , which reached the New York Times Best-Seller List for Children's Picture Books in January 2006.

McDonnell's classic cartooning style not only delivers consistent laughs but often a message that reminds us to take care of our furry friends. With its expressive art and clever, often philosophical pet banter, MUTTS has built a large and loyal fan base among readers and cartoonists alike. McDonnell is a past winner of the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award, and MUTTS won the coveted Comic Strip of the Year Award in 1996.

This unique collection includes 16 pages of full-color bonus material, including watercolors, other artwork, and items personally selected from the creator's sketchbook to accompany the black-and-white dailies and McDonnell's Sunday pages with his signature title panels. As always, the tales-and tails-of this especially close dog-kitty friendship can be counted on for charming adventures and gentle laughs, reminding us that there is more than it seems to the Everyday MUTTS we meet on the street.

I simply love Mutts, so I can only give them five stars! I really enjoyed the whole book, but most of all, as always, the "shelter stories". I'm still wondering when is Patrick McDonnell going to set Guard Dog free, that'll be one of the best moments of Mutts!

AWE OMG MY HEARTTTTT. This was such a huge trip down memory lane for me. I used to love reading these comics when I was younger and omg I forgot how much I missed them! From comic strips that made me chuckle to others that broke my heart (stray dogs and dogs that are chained outside by their owners always break my heart), this was just a great book to read when I needed a nice souvenir of my childhood (because you know, I’m just soooo old and my childhood is just soooo far away in my memory *note sarcasm*). Now I feel so happy and giddy inside lol. Gotta love cats and dogs (even though I’m literally allergic to both... I frank don’t care I want them all)...

Possibly the best collection of the Mutts strip so far. Actually, I've enjoyed every single Mutts book I've ever read, but this one stands out, both because it covers a very creative period, because it covers recurrent subjects and issues (shelter stories, the all-knowing Sphinx, Prosphero the cat), and because it includes Sunday strips in full colour (something which previous collections didn't do, except for the The Art of Patrick McDonnell, a wonderful hardcover book which is not a proper comic strips collection). A perfect introduction to the world of Mutts.

This book is a collection of everday comic strips from MUTTS. This treasury is about a pair of pets and their everyday life with their friends, neighbors, and owners. There's Mooch, a housecat, and Earl,a pet dog. They talk to all sorts of fellow animals, like the squirrels, a grouchy crab named Crabby, and other comical friends. They interact with humans too, like Ozzie, Earl's owner, a tough ice cream parlor owner, and other people. I liked how in this story, the author has many different stories with different characters. He focuses some comic strips on a particular unique character, and other times he includes a lot of characters in a specific storyline. I enjoyed reading this book, because it was entertaining and sometimes humourous to read. It was a good book.

This was the first time that I read anything by this author and it was OK. The humor can be enjoyed by both young and old and I like the focus on animal shelters, the environment and wildlife preservation (he really seems to be concerned about the tigers). I recommend this book and would read something else by this author.

I LOVE EARL AND MOOCH. Just looking at Earl's happy little face makes my heart swell. I love the pictures, the writing, Patrick McDonnell. I feel for Guard Dog. And, hope the tigers can be saved!

At some point prior to this collection Patrick McDonnell seems to have hit the Jim Davis stage of not remotely caring if his strip is funny. MUTTS is just aggressively bland.

I can't get enough of Mutts. Anyone who owns a pet should be able to appreciate the adorable, hilarious, true-to-life, sweet moments in this strip. I love Patrick McDonnell.
