Sunday Mornings A Mutt Treasury

Rate this book
This book is a delight. The colors are delicately applied, a visual feast. In short, not only is this tome exemplary of the cartoonist's art, it is similarly an exemplar of the printer's. A well-made book." - Comics Buyer's Guide, on MUTTS' first Sunday treasury, MUTTS Sundays

MUTTS is known for its straight-forward, delightful artwork, its positive messages, and, of course, the antics of its charming furry protagonists, Earl the dog and Mooch the cat. But MUTTS has also garnered praise for its creative and colorful Sunday strips.

Sunday Mornings is a collection of MUTTS Sunday strips hand-picked by creator Patrick McDonnell. Monday through Saturday, readers of every generation have wide-ranging reasons why they love MUTTS . But Sunday is a special visual adventure. The logo panel is almost a strip unto itself, often paying homage to cartooning of yesteryear, with Mooch and Earl in a comic book cover tribute or parodying a strip from decades gone by. Some readers may have never seen the logo panel, since they are sometimes dropped for space. Those cheated readers, as well as those who have come to love MUTTS' special Sunday full-color strips, will cherish this vibrant collection.

Aug 28, 1030am ~~ Another review for the ASAP pile.

125pm ~~ Last night was another of Those Nights. Sleepless partly from creative energy and partly from aches and pains, I walked the hall and read and settled in the recliner and walked and read and so on far into the night.

MUTTS to the rescue, as always. This is the volume that completes my MUTTS Sunday collection. They are all such fun, and wonderful to see in full color.

I had a couple of favorites in this book. Usually I cannot manage to pick even one that I like better than any others.

But here I loved the Cats Are Better Than Dogs Winter Dance, where Frank and Mooch parade around in front of their living room window while Ozzie and Earl are out for walkies in the snow. Not that I think cats are better than dogs, but I can certainly understand the rivalry and the attitude!

I also liked one panel where Mooch is haunting Frank all evening. Staring. you know how cats do. He stares all the way to bed time and then his eyes show up in the dark until Frank finally says he did not know the tuna was supposed to have been for Mooch to eat.

Yep, even though I did not fall asleep while reading this book, I certainly managed to enjoy my restless night a little bit because of Earl, Mooch and the gang. Thanks, guys!

Short graphic/comic staring Mutts and Mooch, dog and cat. Page after page of talking animals. Some humorous, some stupid, some thought provoking. A change of pace and good to use in a challenge. Just one book of many in the 'Mutts' series of graphic comics.

Lots of smiles AND lots of opportunity for thought. There is no doubt that Patrick McDonnell has seen the darker side of some animals' lives & incorporating that is a good reminder to take care.

This is a full-color collection of Mutts Sunday comic strips. Some of these have already been published in black and white in earlier collections, but it doesn't matter. The color makes this book utterly worthwhile. In addition, the longer Sunday format gives the artist a bit more space to develop a good, funny, tender set of panels each week. Though the humor and style are the same as earlier collections, I really prefer reading (and staring at) the Sunday strips.

The Mutts collections featuring Sunday strips really feature McDonnell's art, which can be absolutely beautiful.

Any sensible person would give this Sunday page collection at least four stars, but I had seen too many of these cartoons in other collections. Disappointing on that count only.
