The base of this isekai fantasy will feel familiar. Our leading lady transmigrates into a book she wrote as a throwaway side character after the host’s death in the story. Ran tries to find a way to survive but gets emotionally invested in the duchy and the people and then becomes guilt ridden about altering the fate of the world. The writing style cuts out a lot of faff. It will mention a duel, do maybe one training session, and then jump cut to the action of the duel. That felt a little unique for the genre, but as things continue I found myself more and more annoyed with the characters. Some of it is the small things writers have to do to build up bad guys, like the Crown Princess knows her husband is a lowlife playboy yet she still attacks the lady in the scenario for no reason. However, some of the inconsistencies are more problematic. Ran is completely competent at business matters (due to foreknowledge) and rocks at every negotiation... but then waffles anytime someone compliments her. She has to have both high and low emotional IQ to make the plot work. She knows that spiritual power has a cost and talks about it but is later shocked when she has to pay for using it and is given a free pass ruining that sacrifice. They want her plucky and strong but also a damsel to be rescued multiple times. And the longer things go on the more this problem spreads. Some of it is just cultural expectations or personal preferences, but I lost investment over time despite the fine start.
