I have been an avid reader of books of all kinds and equally appreciate both fictional and non fictional novels. Still I am often asked about my favourite genre and if I have to single out one , psychological thrillers will certainly top the list. After hearing a lot about this book from my friends and on their strong recommendation I decided to pick this one and I am really glad that I did as it actually fulfilled my expectations.

Suhana is the new sensation in the singing world. After her spectacular debut ,her father throws a party but he is mysteriously found dead the following day. What seems like a natural death at first ,soon turns reeking of murderous intents especially due to the strange phone call Suhana received on the party night. Gradually the readers realise that the roots of murder are quite deep and it has a lot to do with the family's past. After lots of twists and turns and quite a few unexpected folding of events ,the story reaches its climax which is brilliant to say the least as I never saw it coming.

The best part about the book is its tight script and excellent narration of author. There are hardly any dull moments in the story and even if one keeps it aside for a momentary break , the tale doesn't let you feel at peace unless you complete it. Being a huge fan of Agatha Christie and series like Sherlock , I could see some similarities the way story is crafted and layer by layer revealing of subplots. But its the characteristic stellar execution of the author that makes it a truly worthy read. The writer has used the imagery way of writing which is really impressive and leaves an indelible imprint on the psyche . The only let down for me upto an extent is the cover that could have been better and more fascinating for a work of this quality.

Overall a must read and unputdownable book

When death rings is a captivating whodunnit crafted beautifully against the piqturesque scene of Mussoorie. The metaphors and similies are to watch out for. A twisted plot throwing light on dysfunctional modern Indian families laced with humour made this book a thoroughly enjoyable read. Every chapter leaves you wanting for more until the end which leaves you spell-bound and satisfied. The clues are cleverly placed and the descriptions are well thought over. A must read for all mystery lovers. Worth it.

'When Death Rings' by Pulak Kedia is a murder mystery novel. It is a 288 pages long book which keeps you hooked till the end. The story is is brilliantly executed. Suspense is maintained throughout the book from the beginning to the end. The novel is written in 1st person narrative.

The story revolves around the murder of of Shekhar Sethi, a business owner. The story starts when Mr Sethi throws a party on his daughter's success. But, his death on the very next day shocks everyone to the core. Though, the autopsy report says that he died because of a heart attack, one can sense that something is fishy. His daughter, Suhana is very sure that her father was murdered and demands further investigation. Mr Dev, a retired police officer takes over the case. The narrator accompanies the officer.

The plot is very intriguing. Three murders take place back to back but it is really surprising to find out the criminal at the last. I am impressed by the writing skills of the author. One needs a mastermind to actually write such thrillers. As it was my favourite genre, I really enjoyed reading this book and completed it within two days. This book is so un-put-down-able. I would recommend this to everyone who love to read murder mysteries. I hardly give books a five star rating but this book deserves it!

Where there is motive there is psychology. Where there is psychology there is modus operandi.

#plot: Sethi's are a rich family living in Mussorie. Proud father Shekhar Sethi throws a party for her daughter Suhana's success as a singer. Everything is going smooth at the party until Suhana's reveives a call which says "prepare to die tonight, Shekhar ". The next morning Shekhar is found dead. Thereafter a series of events follow and 2 more murders takes place. Mr Dev a retired policeman and shekhar's friend jumps in to investigate the case. Investigation reveals Shekhar's death to be a natural one by but Suhana is not convinced due to the phone call she received. Will Mr Dev be able to crack the case ??

#myexperience
Few pages into this book and I thought I knew who the murderer is... but the moment I turn the next page and I am like, no no this person can't be ..then the next and next....so you are left with assuming and guessing who the murderer is, until you turn the last few pages and are left shocked. This made the whole reading experience quite exciting. I loved the twist and turns in the book. It was slow paced at times but nonetheless it will keep you hooked. The language is easy and narration was good no complaints there. Even beginners can go for this. If you like reading murder mysteries where you are left guessing till the end then this is for you.

The Book "When Death Rings" is a murder mystery. The story begins with the sudden death of Mr. Shekhar Sethi, who was a business tycoon.Though it seemed to be a natural death, it was hard for the family members to believe. They further demanded an investigation. The plot gets very interesting from the right beginning😍Every character in the novel seemed to have a reason to revenge on him.Not only Mr.Shekhar but two other people were also found dead😢

Was the death natural as said in the autopsy report or was it a planned murder❓If it was a murder then who was the actual murderer❓Were the three deaths a coincidence or were interrelated❓

This book is so engaging. It kept me hooked till the end.The narration is beautiful and clear. The tittle itself sounds so attractive❤️The language used is simple and lucid. To even imagine such a murder scene is so thrilling. The story is full of twist and turns.Recommended to the ones who love reading mystery and thriller.🤪

Story revolves around Eight people's lives or death. Eight people attended a party and only Seven people return. What happened?

It is a Murder Mystery. The story is well written with full of twist and turns. The most surprising and satisfying part of the book for me was the End part. Really a great read. The book was so good that I read it in a day. Thever of the book is very mysterious and dark. There was nothing in the book that I would want to change or eliminate. The book was perfectly edited.

Overall an amazing read. I will recommend it to every book lover.

A fast-paced murder mystery with enough twists and surprises to leave you spell-bound. The author has weaved a mystery that makes you think and question every suspect in your mind. Suspicion cleverly falls on every character, so much so that you cannot trust anyone!
Each chapter ends in some sort of a cliffhanger and either opens up a new question or reveals a major plot point that does not let you keep the book down. You keep guessing the whodunnit till the very end when the final revelation answers the riddle in a dramatic fashion-much like an Agatha Christie book. Great work by the author!

I don’t remember how I initially came accross this book or the reason I bought it, but the high rating and the mystery intrigued me.

I understand it’s the author’s first novel, I would say it’s a good start, detective Dev. feels like a Poirot wannabe in the way he talks to his assistant and makes the big reveal at the end, but who wouldn’t want to be Poirot anyway

I struggled a little with the language, too simple, with excessive use of names throughout the dialogues.
And some sentences were just wrong, like using reluctant instead of persistent, or saying I demand apologies instead of I apologize/I beg your pardon.

Decent twist at the finale , I had only guessed half of the ending.

A murder mystery story plotted by Pulak Kedia in the backdrop of suspense is an amazing book. I won't summarise the story here, you will get it everywhere, I'll elaborate what I felt. All through the story from the begining there was no drama no useless time pass. It was like I started and the gane began. The highlighted turning point here is the phone ring and this event is so well embeded that I was hearing the ringing sound all while reading it. There was an appreciable gripping that hold me tight from the begining. It was a fast pace throughout without a break. Just as in an engrossing mystery stories suspect never comes out to be the villian, same I found here. Till the last chapter I was just guessing and in the very next chapter I got persuaded that no another one is hiding something. Author has used his manupulative skills in the characters itself were everyone's past took a new turn and diverted the whole direction of leads. Alobg with a classy tittle author has cleverly choosed the destination as Musoorie, were love flows in air but the story made it mistic. Finally, giving a smooth flow to the narration taking so many characters all along is really praiseworthy. It was an exciting read of blooded party.
I am really looking for the next book. You will missout a great piece if you skip this book.

This novel will keep you on the edge of your seat as it weaves a murder mystery around the secrets of a dysfunctional family's past and a myriad of suspects as we unravel the plot and the subsequent murders.

Set in Mussoorie, the story begins with Mr Sethi throwing a success party for her daughter Suhana's wonderful singing debut.
Then there's a phone ring, which she mistook for a joke but left her stunned the next day. Her father died of a heart attack, but the phone call and her gut instinct told her that it wasn't a natural death. She summons Mr Dev to look into the case of the person who had a positive experience. He and the narrator work together to solve this enigma.
However, as we flip the pages, the plot unfolds in such a way that we learn about the individuals' pasts and possible intentions.
With murders and a tight investigation that that will keep the readers guessing, this tale leads to an astonishing climax.

The book was a suspenseful whodunit, a jigsaw with similar pieces that was tough to put together.Characters are well-developed, and the narration and writing style are both smooth. The plot is quite intriguing and will keep you enthralled throughout.
The cover is eye-catching, and the title is perfectly suited to the plot. A book that is both unputdownable and beautifully engraved!

A very fantastic debut!
If you like Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie books then you should pick this one!

Good luck to the author !

Brilliantly written

I am so glad that I picked up the book. It was an excellent blend of mystery, suspense and thrill. The plot is nicely paced, and I did not expect it to be so absorbing. As with mystery novels, the most prominent problem writers face is convincing the readers about the solution presented to the mystery in question. In the book, the author has spun a very brilliant mystery with a plausible explanation. I was trying to figure out the killer as I went on reading, and I admit I did not expect the ending.
The witty dialogues and the imagery used within the narration have formed a page-turner. I could not put down the book without thinking about it constantly in the back of my head. If a book pulls you back the moment you pause reading, that book has to be good, in my opinion. Rarely do I come across a mystery book by a contemporary Indian writer with a strong narrative and impeccable grammar. This book is one of them. The plot was not an original one, though, and we can see hints of old mystery works. However, the book won me over with the execution.
If I really had to nitpick, I would probably say that the book deserved a better cover. Apart from that, I am honestly delighted with the time I spent reading this book. Readers who are new to the mystery genre must add this book to their latest reading list.

Intriguing murder mystery

'When Death Rings' - the name itself has an air of mystery and suspense to it.
The story does justice to the name and does not disappoint.

Set in picturesque Mussoorie, this a gripping whodunnit, dealing with a triple murder. Right from the start, the plot thickens with several twists and turns, revealing layer by layer of each character, shifting focus from one suspect to the other, continually keeping the reader guessing the identity of the murderer. This is the part I enjoyed the most as I had my guess on who the culprit could be, and was happy in the end to find my guess was correct.

The book starts off slow, but picks up the pace soon and manages to hold the reader's interest till the end. The writing felt a bit heavy initially in the descriptive parts, but smoothened up with the dialogues. A suggestion to the author to keep the language simple as bigger words seemed to be breaking up the flow. Nevertheless, it does not take away from the story. The book is a thriller and an excellent attempt for a debut work. Looking forward to more books from this author.

Well-researched, well-written!
When I started reading the story, I couldn't keep the book down. It's a page turner and the narration is so gripping, you would want to read it to find out the mystery. A well-researched book, author at no point comes across as a novice. In fact, I am not a murder mystery fan but this book altered my perspective.

It all starts with a party where people of different personalities, each with their own quirk, comes across as possible culprits. Dev, the key officer unraveling murder after murder comes across as a unique personality, with a penchant to solve mysteries. Vikram was a likable character too but I was expecting his role to expand as I continued. But, he remained constant through out. May be a little more ups and downs was what I was anticipating as a reader. All in all, this book is amazing and the work put by debut author applaudable. Kudos to a promising debut!

My review:

When Death Rings by Pulak Kedia is a mind-blowing murder mystery which is set up in mussoorie. Right from the very start, the story is gripping and makes the reader curious. It starts with a success party thrown for Suhana Sethi by her father Shekar Sethi, where Suhana recieves a call and that one phone call changes everything. I love reading murder mystery so much and when I got this book to read, I didn't expect it to be so gripping and amazing story. I was guessing about the killer from the start but everytime I was convinced about the killer, the story took the new turn. I was guessing killer till the end when the story turned out to be so Mysterious. There was a perfect combination of past and present. The way past was explained and the way it affected the present. I m so much in love with this book and I am glad I read it in the first place. Kudos to the author.

The language was simple and easy to understand with so much of information. There was no extra information which wasn't needed. The story was fast paced. I lost myself in the story somewhere.

The title and the book cover is good but it could have been better. Given the story, the title and the book cover was left behind.

Grab this book to read mind blowing murder mystery.

That's all about it.

When Death Rings by Pulak Kedia Book Review: Murder Mysteries are the most sensational books to have been ever written and metropolitan crime mysteries are quite a sensation these days which started from our most loveable Sherlock Holmes and Byomkesh Bakshi along with Hercule Poirot and Raymond Cavalier. Monks have also been detectives to create a most different type of a buzz and sensational detour that only increased the readers love for detective creations along with the concept of the arm chair detectives as well. Usually, a murder is done in a detective plot or a person goes missing whenever there is a dark side that gets involved and embroiled into the family and within it's members, one or more amongst them being the shady. The story involves a lot of characters with the main focus on Dev and Vikram who quite unusually, being present as the members of a glitzy party gets involved with a family 's mystery when one among it's many members gets murder. A spine chilling thriller with bits of horror, suspense and dysfunctionality this book talks about the most important aspect of a killer 's mind which is the psychological factor where many aspects of not only the killer 's mind but also of the people involved around a mishap or a tragedy including the story forming around them also gets interrogated and judged on the basis of their mind. The plot revolves around the Sethi family and a widow who is secluded and self disturbed and also harming upon whom a lot of unfolding of various secrets depends. But, the modus operandi here becomes a phone call received on the night of a party that triggers the action of the novel. A multi layered where patience and time is stacked, where intelligence gets tested, this book has similarities to a lot of work in Hollywood fiction especially with the Woman in the Window. I have personally felt here an angle of Dev and Vikram being the legendary Vikram and Betal where through Vikram the line of past and present blurs and the events unfold and Dev investigates what is going to happen next to stop a rampant serial killer/murderer on loose. This is a masterpiece and I give my best regards to the author to go on creating such future detective fictions further.

⚠️BOOK REVIEW⚠️

🔎 This action-packed book is written by Pulak Kedia. If you're in search of a good mysterious book, then this is definitely the one for you.

🔎 The storyline revolves around the 8 members of a well-known, opulent family.

🔎A grand party has been organized by Mr Sethi to celebrate the huge success of her daughter as a reputed singer.

🔎While everybody was busy roistering at the party, all of a sudden the telephone rung startling everyone with numerous thoughts in their head.

🔎Suhana receives the call to hear something which was totally unexpected so despite of being serious she took it in a facetious manner.

🔎But little did she had any idea that whatever the other person mentioned to her in the call will soon turn into reality.

🔎What could’ve happened after this?

⚠️ PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ⚠️

🔎 So basically I got this book long before, but didn't get time to read it back then.

🔎Being a mystery lover, I was damn excited to read this book and guess what?? It was definitely worth the hype.

🔎It'll just be impossible for you to stop reading in the middle as it is filled with suspense. Nor to forget, the ending will surely blow up your mind.

🔎The writing style and the cover both are equally incredible. I personally loved the cover as it is kept simple yet elegant.

🔎The story kept me engrossed till the end. And I'm pretty sure it'll do the same to you.
I would like to congratulate Pulak sir, on writing such an outstanding enigmatic book.

🔎And before summing-up I'd strongly recommend this book to all who prefers reading thriller novels and even the ones who are looking for a good book to get in the habit of reading.
