Cat-astrophe is a short and sweet mage/shifter story with a HEA. It was previously published in His Magical Pet, a charity M/M anthology.

I wanted something short and cute, and I definitely got it with this! I love cats so I especially wanted to read this when I was in the mood for it (I can only handle cute/adorable in short stories, lol).
This was a great length for this, but I am curious about the world since some explanation was given for how a mage's magic works, and that was very interesting. All-in-all, I'll check out this author again.
Cat-astrophe is a short novella starring Matthew, a mage, and his new neighbor, Ethan, a lion shifter. This is told in third person from Matthew’s pov.
This is a fluffy, fast read. There isn’t much to it, the blurb tells what the plot is about but I’ll go over it again. Matthew is a mage working on a spell for teleportation that helps a person leave an uncomfortable or dangerous situation. Unfortunately, it goes wrong. Matthew must figure out why it’s not working, so he thinks, and why his cat keeps showing up in his new neighbor’s apartment.
As to the characters, Matthew has a slight inferiority complex about his spell-making abilities. The fact that the teleportation spell didn’t work confirms Matthew’s belief about himself. Which also makes him hesitant to chat up the hot new lion shifter that moved in downstairs. But since Matthew’s cat keeps showing up in Ethan’s apartment, that gives Ethan an excuse to come visit Matthew. Both men are awkward around each other. It’s turns out Ethan is lonely and looking for company but Matthew isn’t getting the message. At first Ethan seemed older because of the way Matthew described him physically, that he’s a lion shifter, and the way Ethan spoke. But we find out he’s the youngest boy in his family. Their interactions were brief although the story ended up with a HFN as they were going to start dating.
The writing was abrupt, and for me, I didn’t find it flowed that well. Maybe it’s because the sentences seemed too short, and the actions and speech also brief. It made the story feel for me, like it had a stop and start repetitive motion which wasn’t comfortable to read. The other thing I didn’t like was the story stopped at about eighty percent with the rest of the book filled with random stuff. So that made this story extremely short.
Overall, this is a fluffy, short read. I wouldn’t read it again, but I don’t feel like I wasted my time. I give Cat-astrophe, 3 Stars.
This could have been a cute story, but there was too much discussion and explanation about casting spells, cross-checking spells, A before B except after C, etc. It was all a bit boring and confusing. The bottom line is boy meets boy. Boys like each other. Cat brings them together. The end.
Sweet story about a mage and a lion shifter who meet (and more) because the mage's cat teleports into the shifter's apartment. Novella length, so certainly worth the relatively short read. Ending is open for more development, too.
This was 30 pages of surprisingly well-written cuteness. Since it’s so short, the MCs only share a brief kiss, but I’d love to see it expanded into a novella because I feel like it has a lot of potential.
This was a sweet, quick read of the low heat variety. A meet cute with a teleporting cat, her slightly confused mage and a lion shifter mechanic who has just moved into the apartment building. Matthew and Ethan meet while Matthew is hunting his Houdini of a cat. They have a nice chemistry from the start. And it builds each time Ethan returns the teleporting cat to his owner. Sweet, fun to read. Love this author.
Basically cute but not well developed. Ethan is adorable but Matthew is an awkward mess. I’ve read other works by this author and I notice that she tends to write main characters who are lousy communicators. Also, not sue why she felt it was necessary to state that the men Matthew saw unloading the van were black. It had no relevance.
What a fun, joyous romp! You will love Matthew & Ethan. A spell gone sideways sends Matthew's cat to his new neighbor's kitchen. Ethan doesn't mind, especially since he gets to see more or Matthew. The spell may never get fixed, but love is in the air. You are gonna love this book!
This is a cute little feelgood story! A mage messes up a spell and suddenly his cat is able to teleport. And who is this handsome new neighbour? The new neighbour is a shifter. I'm not a big fan of shifter stories (where humans can turn into other animals), and I don't think that being a shifter was necessary for the plot.
This story was simply adorable. I loved the writing and I loved the characters, especially Josie the cat. She had a special way of bringing Matthew and Ethan together. Definitely a very cute and delightful read.
This has potential but it¡s too short. I feel the story really started when it ended. How are the dynamics between the shifters and mages and I can't remeber what else there was? How do they interact with the unmagic ones? Gah... Too short.
A delightful bit of fluff with a dose of magic. Recommended for cat lovers or anyone who likes shifter fic but isn't looking for drama or sex scenes at the moment.
It was a good story but it had the potential to be a lot better. With it being a short story, maybe focus a little less on trying to figure out a spell and add a little bit about a first date and then it would have been a good opening to a follow-up book.
It was very good, loved how the boys interacted. I really liked how the author made the cat realistic, and not sweet and loving all the time because cats just aren't like that.
Adorable! I'm going to have to remember this one if I need a feline shifter book (or a mage book or a pet owner book) in a pinch (and if the page count doesn't matter).
MM paranormal romance (flirting and a kiss). A mage meets a lion shifter when his cat interrupts his spell and disappears. My only sorrow was that this story was too short.
