A fun and unique cozy featuring witches who stink at magic but are great at quilting. Chad, the only guy and a vampire as well has it a little backward with being really terrible at quilting, lol. But the group was just different enough that it kept my interest going. That raven familiar of Carly's named Hazel was cracking me up! Somehow I could picture Reba as her voice, lol.
I really had no clue whodunit, the showdown was pretty exciting, and I'm going to enjoy getting to know the members of this group even better when I borrow the second book on KU.
I managed six chapters before giving up. I had difficulty understanding what this was about. When two authors are writing a book it should be seamless but I felt I could identify the two different minds as the storyline developed. The snarky starlet looking down on everyone. The unassuming feeble witch with sewing skills that we hadn't had displayed yet. I love the Sweet Cove mysteries that J.A. Whiting has written as sole author, but only a couple of the series co-written have appealed to me. Sorry but this one hadn't made the cut.
Book #1 in the series and it will be the only one I attempt to read. the characters were one-dimensional, the plot felt hackneyed and I only slogged through one-third. Not for me!

When the quilting ladies get wrangled into organizing a party for a celebrity returning home, the pressure of pleasing the diva is almost too great. After her assistant is murdered, and it looks like a magical potion gone wrong was the cause of death, Carly decides to look into who had motive before one of her friends ends up in jail. The problem is, none of them where great at magic and a few look like good candidates for wanting to murder the celebrity. Now Carly has to protect someone she doesn't like and catch the killer.
Another witch who is unsure of her ability when it comes to the use of her powers. A group of quilters who are also unsure about their skills and seem to not do anything but talk about it instead of practicing. A friend is harmed it seems that the police are stumped. Unable to say she is a witch but finds she must use her skills to help solve the mystery. It was a cute short read on a rainy day with a cup of coffee
Wendy returns to town to celebrate the start of her new TV show. Her assistant is murdered and every magic user especially Carly since her magic usually goes wrong. Wendy is very demanding in what she wants for her party. Rachel is trying to get Logan to give the party to her. Tells Logan he's not up to Wendy's standards. Didn't really care for story, too slow.
I liked that these witches aren't perfect, nor even adept, at their magic. Being a quilter myself helps me relate...A little. The mystery was good. I couldn't solve the crime even if I had a bit of magic. The characters were well portrayed and fleshed out. They plot well layed out and completed... No cliff hangers, I'm reading for book two.
The town's quilting club is made up of witches and a vampire, none of them very good with magic, you could almost call them cursed. When a famous native returns to town it's up to the misfits to keep her safe.
A new series by J A Whiting always grabs my attention. This book didn't disappoint. Fun as well as interesting. A good mystery. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I don't usually like hobby themed mysteries much but this first book of this series was entertaining. J.A. Whiting is a pro at the paranormal cozy mystery and this story is quite good.
I wasn't a fan of the overly conversational writing style, but anyone who likes that kind of thing should enjoy this book. The mystery was fun, I liked the characters, and her familiar made me smile.
Loved the plot with twists and turns, and was surprised by who the killer was. Excellent writing and good editing as well. I recommend this book as good, easy read 📚 with a heap of drama and suspense
Great story. I love the quilting inserts but I have to admit that her getting her magic taken away was scary. I hope they all learn to control their magic and keep working together for good. 👍
It's titled SEW Dead, it's needlecraft connection is quilting rather than sewing, there's very little quilting reference, and what exists isn't relevant to the plot.
There were a few pages where this book was entertaining. The rest was just meh. I really enjoy JA Whiting’s books she’s written solo, but this collaboration fell flat.
This has unique storytelling in this series. Love the characters. The development of them was easy and blended well into the story line. Great Reading Everyone!
I feel like the book didn't really know what it wanted to be, and lacked a lot of focus. It took me forever to finish because every time I put it down I basically forgot it existed.
Another first book in a series written by this author! I am starting to get them all a bit mixed up in my head, but this one had a stronger paranormal element that differentiated it from other books.
I like that Carly is not great with magic, it definitely makes for an interesting character that is trying to improve, and adds a layer of difficulty in solving the mystery, since it would be too easy if she could just figure it all out with a spell at the start.
The quilting aspect is not my favourite, I have never done anything remotely similar, and I can’t say I’m super interested, but it’s a nice change from the usual bookshop or bakery.
The mystery was sort of on the simple side, I could tell that I was satisfied with the resolution anyway.
