Rate this book
Thomasinia is a teenage girl living with Asperger's syndrome. As a result, she has trouble communicating well with others and fitting in. This makes her parents weary of her associating with other kids her age. Therefore, she is kept close to home when she would rather socialize with other people. Thomasinia becomes frustrated and depressed because she just wants to be treated like a normal teenager. Now, it is up to her parents to figure out the best course of action to take to ensure her well-being. Malik is a middle aged man who becomes easily upset with people. He is quick to snap and even get into fights. This is the case with all people, including his best friend. He has finally met the love of his life and wants to settle down, but the err of his ways catches up to him when a man that he fought for aggravating him in front of his house ends up dead. He winds up framed for the murder and ends up doing hard prison time. It is during the course of his lock up, and fighting many tough guys that others wouldn't dare to mess with, that he ends up being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. While in prison, he is receiving proper care for his illness and has finally settled down, only to find out that the woman he loves is pregnant. Trieu is a little boy at the tender age of four years old. He is very rambunctious and all over the place. His teachers and friends find him to be abnormally rambunctious for a four year old boy. He does seem kind of pushy, but his parents think nothing much of it. After all, boys will be boys. It is not until he brutally punches his mother in the face that it finally comes to light that this little boy has a problem. This is when his father and his father's girlfriend, who is pregnant with his baby, take over custody of Trieu. They have him counseled and learn that he has ADHD. As he takes his medication his temper gets better, and he is also able to pay better attention in his classes. But there is one huge issue. His biological mother is now afraid to be anywhere near him. Now the question is, can the counselors, along with the boy's father, convince his mother that he is no longer a threat to her?

Awesome book!

I really fell in love with this book. It should be nominated for an award or turned into a film. The main character Tomasinia, who has a mild form of autism elaborates on her life and how her parents treat her like a baby, and talk to her as if she doesn't understand. I can relate to this because I am an educator. I work with kids with Autism and ADHD and one thing I realized is they are very much aware of things even when you think they aren't listening. It's just harder for them to explain to you how they feel. Some of them have greater senses too... somehow they know things. They have a great sense of intuition, and some can feel bad or good energies. This book is the explanation of what it feels like to be inside of Thomasinia's head and witness her personal thoughts and emotions!

Wow

Not my usual read but really glad I read it. I learned a lot about Asperger's syndrome and really felt like I got a good look into the characters feelings and thoughts. I think this book really takes you deep into the difficulties of mental illness and even touches on stigma. I would definitely recommend to any one struggling not just with aspergers but any mental illness.
