13 is a collection of poems written alongside therapeutic intervention. It’s called 13 for two the first is that there are 13 poems, and the second, I’ve come to realise with therapy, is that I was just 13-years of age when depression and anxiety began to take their toll and painfully shape the next 3 decades of my life. My experience has led me to believe that healing childhood trauma and adult anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges is a life-long commitment but is entirely doable. We can’t undo the past anymore than we can unhear the rippling echo of a chiming bell. But as we slowly heal the critical themes of damaged mental health, as we rediscover the power of our opinions and the incomparable wisdom in our experiences, we learn how to silence the unrelenting toll of the intrusive, toxic chimes that have overpowered us for far too long. You’re not alone.
