The book has catchy cover and really attractive blurb that made me pick it up. It took me a while to enter in the story. I will superficially summarise the blurb, hoping that it will give you little idea as the story is complex and I am struggling to put it in simple and few words. The book starts with the murder scene or we can say murder narration. Because I can say for the first time I have read such an artistic or poetic presentation of a murder. Author stole my heart there and full marks for writing style. It was a shoot or a scene for movie. The book starts with characters such as Rumana, Zamir, Roger, Shilpa, etc. They live such a lavish lifestyle. I liked the description style of their lifestyles too. A film or we can say erotic film was created and shared across the screen. It was mesmerising. But later on disappeared as it never existed. And there is a murder. The unknown killer, an alpha woman who is beauty with brain, turned murder into an art. I was fascinated to read that and author has indeed kept her word. You have got to read the book to know how. And a cop is after her. He is like a loose hound. Read the book to know entire plot. I liked the story. It’s complete drama and suspense packed. I took many unexpected turns. There are number of characters that makes the plot interesting. Author has added number of characters at frequent intervals that holds the interest of the reader. That’s quite witty. And narration style of the author is indeed captivating and poetic. Hats off to that. Overall it’s an interesting read. Recommended from my side.
Raptor Rising by Anjali Joshi is about 225 pages but the story here is fast moving and UNPREDICTABLE.
The book opens with a shooting set of a movie and an actor is missing. There is no trace of him . But later on the police find out a video. An adult video and at the end that actor is killed. This videos are uploaded into dark web so tracing it is harder . A cop named Vikrant , comes into this field and arrests a woman. But another murder takes place. Then who's the killer ? Who's killing people ?
Now, I want to appreciate author's writing as well as level of imagination in creating such atmosphere where readers literally get goose bumps. Character development is something I must admire. And how can I not talk about the cover ? An eye catching cover is always a plus point !
A story which will give you all sorts of goosebumps. A crime thriller novel which portrays murder as art. The story is about a psychopath who loved killing famous personalities, filming their murders and selling them on the dark web. The arrival of Vikram, a cop gives a new twist to the story. Will police be able to catch the ruthless killer? ✨ I absolutely loved the book. The writing, the story, the characters everything is just perfect. The book kept me engaged till the very end. The story ended with a cliffhanger so I’m waiting for the sequel.
" Death was her art. Would he be her masterpiece? "

With every search zeroing on an open ending, will this chase ever bring these two predators face to face with each other? To know more, grab your copy of the book soon.
What an experience it was reading this book. Now, to be honest with you all, my foremost reason for picking up this book was the concept of an alpha female protagonist. I was really intrigued by the blurb of the storyline and gladly it lived up to my curiosity. Firstly, I want to applaud the author's imaginative dimension and the way she has tapped into the darkest human emotions and twisted psyches to put together this story. I really liked the storyline and character development throughout the book. The aptly timed twists and the unexpected finale had me taking my own sweet time to process.
It's just that the detailed descriptions of the gruesome acts got to me a bit but other than that this was an interesting read.
Undercooked. Summarises the book in one word. I really expected much much more with all the great reviews but this was a huge letdown for me. I won’t recommend this.
Raptor rising is a psychological crime. thriller. This novel is one of a kind and I can admit I have never read such a novel before. Whenever we think of serial killers we always assume they will be males. But what if a female serial killer becomes the cause of fear in males with an alpha life personality. Yes, the protagonist in this novel is a female serial killer who kills famous celebrities.
The book starts with a film's shooting starring actor Zamir Khan. The author captivates my heart ever since the beginning. The way the author has described the action scene of the movie was enough to let me know the book was going to be a great read. Zamir Khan disappears from an Island without a trace and later police find a porn film of him which ends with his killing. The woman whose face is never visible in the film kills him with her bare hands and leaves no evidence of finding her. Her method of killing is spotless and no matter how hard the police try, they could not find anything about the killer. When Vikram, a crazy cop who doesn't care much about rules and regulations enters the scene he arrests Rumana, a rich party based on some eyewitnesses but when one more murder takes place, he has to let her go and they are again left with no suspect. The killings are being carried out and their videos are uploaded on the dark web so the source can not be tracked and before cops could even try to do anything the websites disappear as they were never there.
The characterization is really good and they keep the story interesting. I loved how the author has described the character of The Alpha Female, her back story. I didn't like Vikram from the start because he always does questionable things even though he's a cop. There are other characters too who are very important to the story.
I'm in love with the author's writing style. It's beautiful and descriptive. The plot was amazing and intriguing. The story kept me hooked until the end. If possible I would love to read a spin-off of this novel.
I took several days to finish this book even though the book was an interesting read. It's such a difficult time (bad phase, personally) that nothing makes sense except reading. (I have an unfinished painting looking at me, but I don't feel like painting).
Back to the book.
Publisher: Rupa Publications Number of pages: 215 Genre: Mystery/Thriller/Women's fiction Price: ₹244 (on Amazon)
First of all, the cover: it's gorgeous!
And then the blurb: Raptor Rising is about a powerful, enigmatic woman. And a smart, intelligent cop who is 'chasing' her.
Strikingly interesting plot, smartly executed (that keeps you wondering). It's a dark, twisted story that deals with lust, greed, love, mystery, cruelty, betrayal...All interwoven skillfully.
It is inspired by a screenplay (as the author says), so the narrative is a little different. It's set in Mumbai, and takes you to Japan as well.
Writing is very engaging. It creates nice imagery and builds psychological pressure, which makes the read engrossing and intriguing. There's no fixed point of view: it's told from several points of view, which changes smoothly.
Chapters are very short and mostly end with cliffhangers, which makes the read very easy and gripping.
The characters are interesting, with significant backstories. There are several characters and all of them have their importance, so it doesn't feel cluttered.
Overall, a very good read. Do read if you like thriller/mystery and prefer woman centric stories.
I received a review copy from the publisher for an unbiased review.
A book that will make you curious, that will astound you! The author weaves a thrilling tale, a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The plot of the story is interesting and to the point, there is no dull moment. As the story proceeds, it gets more and more exciting. The narration of the story is crisp and engaging keeping the readers hooked throughout.
Love reading thriller books? do not skip this one! a perfect blend of drama, mystery and thrill!
A serial killer is on the loose. And he is killing famous people. Serial killer is filming these murders and putting them up on dark web. Till a new cop comes to town.
The story is very gripping. I love how the plot moves and develops through the book. Also the characters written are really good. I loves how the character of Vikram grows overall. I Also really liked how the suspense is kept very tightly packed and author does not give us any hint as to who the serial killer is or if these murders are work of a serial killer or not. . I definitely recommend this thriller.
Is there anything such as a "perfect crime?" Can a crime be perfect? While the answer is debatable from time immemorial. For some the answer is certainly affirmative; whereas for others it's a complete denial.
Perfect crime (if that exists, that is) can be of several categories based on the number of times it has been performed or severity or the time of execution. There're several unsolved cases which exist till this day which were committed eons ago as they vanish in thin air making them very difficult to access or almost unreachable/untraceable. They're categorised as follows: unrecognised, privacy crimes, sedition, art & identity thefts, organ harvesting, sex trafficking, smuggling drugs, counterfeiting & so on. On the contrary, in other popular opinions; perfect crimes never exist, because the day to day advancements of technology will overcome all barriers to eventually trace any form of criminal no matter where they're & subjugate them even if they had managed to fool the law or escape in indescribable ways once upon a long time ago. So it's all a matter of time & execution of technology.
The name Raptor rising suits the title perfectly. It's catchy while at the same time justifies the context accordingly. It deals with a psychological crime. The readers will get the complete valuable experience of a mystery thriller along with bouts of psychological aspects. It's a rare experience as the storyline etched here is absolutely surreal.
The most captivating factor about this novel is the fact that the killer involved in this story is a female character who possesses a personality of an insatiable feminine charm. The invaluable fear she involves in the male counterparts by provoking them to commit blunders is an entirely enthralling experience indeed. The character description given here is a whole another different ball game as it's apt, precise & upto the point especially when we're talking about crimes that involve celebrities.
I can go on & on about this book endlessly. However, I won't delve much into the story of the book. Read yourself to find out more about it.
Cover has been designed beautifully crafted with utmost precision. It's so vibrant & attractive in every way possible. Characterisation is apt. The detailed description of every single aspect, let it be murder scenes or erotic sex made my overall reading, surreal. Storyline is good. Narration is perfect. It has been well balanced with good writing style & vocabulary. A must read for all thriller lovers, recommended for all.
A woman. A man. The man disrespects her for no reason. The woman ignores. Goes about her day. A few days later, the man is dead. Killed. Murdered. By? The same woman. The police. An inspector. An investigation. Who was the man? A famous actor. Who was the woman? A stunt double. The purpose of murder? Unknown. The weapon? Unknown. The time? Unknown. The location of the killer? Unknown. So much is in the dark. The inspector feels challenged. Decides he isn’t going to rest till he figures it all out. And there we go, THE DUEL BEGINS. Raptor Rising is a thrilling crime fiction that will keep you on your toes. What is so special about the story? Nothing. It is a simple murder-solving case. Yet, somehow, you will not be able to keep the book down once you have started reading it. You just HAVE to know what happens next. There is a piece of the title in every chapter, which makes the title relevant. You are in for a treat of a rising raptor when you start this book and it follows through the end. The vocabulary is simple and the book is easy to read. However, the writing style may seem a little complicated for beginners. The tense used, though common, is a little uncommon, and even if it takes a few pages to get a hang of the style, once you do, the tense simple adds to the thrill and tension, making you feel like you are in the situation, right then, right there. The story travels in past and present, gripping your attention. The characters of the story are rich with various emotions, different dimensions of their life, with a motive for everything they do. You may not necessarily connect to them emotionally and understand their reasons, but they definitely fascinate you. As the story is set up in a city of India, you get all the feels of India, along with a thrilling Bollywood movie. It was a little difficult for me to get into the book and I thought the editing could be done in a way that made it easier to read, but once I got past a few pages, there was no eating, no drinking, no other work for next few hours. I had to finish the book. I didn’t care about anything else. The ending also satisfied me. As a sucker for thrillers, I was positively thrilled! Therefore, if you are looking for a refreshing thriller, this is your book.
What started as a B-grade movie script, became something else as soon as the duel began. The story is about an alpha woman who is bold, sexy, strong, and well aware of their talent and power. She is dominating, intimidating, and a predator.
She uses sex as her weapon and posts her killings on the dark web. Vikram is a typical Bollywood policeman who would do anything (ethical/unethical) to catch a criminal. The story takes a sharp twist when Vikram’s name appears to be on the list of “next kill”.
So many things happen when the book nears the ending which surely took me by surprise. I honestly wasn’t expecting how it ended. The twists and the turns definitely saved it from being a disastrous read.
Anjali Joshi, the author, as we know is a journalist, an editor, a filmmaker. The book felt like a fast-paced thriller movie. I went in with extremely high hopes but I felt like DNFing it just as our raptor made her first kill and published the video online. Sexy killings are not my jam.
Even though the starting for me was rough, I still had some hopes so I kept going. The raptor rose to strike the second time, now I had developed an interest and wanted to know who the killer was and why did she enjoy such gruesome acts.
I loved the idea of an alpha female against the police department. I also liked how smartly the author showed that there is a raptor in each one of us and it is up to us who we choose to be.
It was an okay one-time read for me. You can pick it up if you like fast paced bollywood style thrillers. You can actually finish it in one sitting.
I expect to read more and better books by the author as I know she is capable of much better work.
Raptor Rising by Anjali Joshi is a riveting crime thriller novel with dark shades of psychological shades. The story is about a serial killer who kills famous personalities, records it, and uploads on the dark web. The novel first sees the murder of a lecherous filmstar and then a cricketer is killed and then one guy from the police department.
As the investigation team of the cop Vikram tightens the vigils, it comes out that the serial killer could be an alpha lady. After the arrival of Vikram as a cop, the novel becomes tightly packed and there goes a lot of hide and seek game. Misinterpretation of the clues, getting wrong things in hand to random DNA samples, the story finally zeroes on two lead characters Vikram and Nicole. They are similar. More than investigation, the tale becomes of ego clashes and superiority and blood lust. In fact, the author is right in saying that the duel begins.
Not an easy read but also interesting one. One needs to be focused to thoroughly enjoy the novel. 50 plus chapters made reading easy. It’s a different type of crime thriller; the killer is exposed just before the end of the novel, leaving the story on cliffhanger, might be a sequel is on the way. Characters are well-sketched with no child-like features; everyone knew what they were up to. You can pick up this novel to know that death game is just another money-making business in the dark internet. Overall, a brilliant novel. Anjali shines with her exquisite and descriptive narration.

💫 The story is very different from the ones we regularly read. It is a thrilling book which immeresed in mystery and suspense. We are never able to spot the suspect till the very end. The narration is clear. All the characters are well developed. I loved the writing style of the author, its descriptive, vivid and clear. The book cover looks more like a piece of art. The title of the book has also been chosen precisely. I enjoyed the book very much.
Penned by Anjali Joshi, 'Raptor Rising' is a heart-thumping tale of murder, mystery, and suspense as it trails an exotic, relentless killer on her spree as a rogue cop tries to trace her down. She is out in the open, and yet she is not. One high-profile kill after another. Can he find her before she gets to her next target? What is her objective?
I can't believe I took so long to get to this book because it is simply amazing. I love suspense thrillers, and this just increased my admiration for this genre. The author is simply brilliant with her creation; she has taken her time to lay out the premise and trace her plot. Not only that, I am extremely impressed by her research. The plot is intricate as well as well-rounded.
The writing style has its own charm - it's well-balanced, neither too simple nor too complicated. The characterization is so well put out, and I appreciated the unique stance in the sense of protagonist and antagonist. I don't want to give out any spoilers, so I will just leave it at that. I truly want to read more of the author's works.
I recommend this book to all the thriller and mystery readers out there. You won't be able to keep the book down, so definitely give it a try.
Raptor Rising by Anjali Joshi is a dark psychological crime thriller book. The story is set up in the Indian context. The story starts in the islands of Lakshadweep, where superstar Zameer Khan is seen shooting for his next project. One day he goes missing suddenly, and that’s where the actual story starts. A video that goes viral makes the readers suspect everyone that is introduced later in the story. But the author also has given a clear point that the killer is a woman! The video is a stunt of Zameer Khan killing and his foes missing after the shooting. Thus the dots look connected. After this incident few more murders lead the readers to get a stance of a serial killer. Then comes the main character Vikram, the cop who investigates the case. Nicole, another main character on par with Vikram but on the parallel side, becomes a part of the investigation. At this juncture, Vikram loses his sister, and his interest in the case speeds up with more conviction.
This is an unusual murder mystery that has many layers into it. The narration is quite engaging, and the writing style is descriptive and attention-grabbing. The strong female character is an attractive feature throughout the story. There are some places where readers will for sure enjoy the thrill ride. Regular readers who are primarily into such mystery novels will have a good time reading this.
Raptor Rising by author Anjali Joshi is an outstanding crime thriller that has blown my mind indeed. Though for thrillers, I always have a strong addiction and when the plot touches my expectation, it's just like icing on the cake. Those 52 erotic and heart-beating chapters didn't allow me to close the book before finishing.
In sooth, the plot of Raptor Rising is not so unique but the author's writing style reaches it to another level. The story revolves around a serial killer who kills famous personalities and encloses them on a dark website. But what if this unstoppable serial killer is not "he" but "she"? Yes! Death was her art...
There are numerous up and down, there are several turns and twists... what more I can ask from Raptor Rising! Grab this book and survive.
As I said author's writing style is so cool and moderate. I love the simple way she has constructed sentences that will not be an interruption while reading. All characters in this story are well developed and defined. I will recommend this book to all psychological thrillers lovers. It's a must-read.
The front cover of the book gives the feel of thrill to look at it. It is intriguing and piques curiosity. The language is simple and we read the book with great pleasure. The author has written the novel in such a way that the suspense of the story is kept intact till the end. It's a crime thriller novel that portrays murders as an art.
This story is a beautiful blend of mystery, thriller, suspense, and action. The pace of the book is fast you will not want to put it down till you finish it. The twists and the turns in the plot were amazing and I found completing the book as quickly as I could. This one is brutally entertaining and I would look forward to reading other works by the author in the future. Anyone who reads this genre will enjoy it and be involved in it.
Firstly let us take a moment and appreciate the beautiful cover. I could just describe this book as a filmy one, fast paced. . The narration of the author is just brilliant and it is what keeps the reader glued to it. The killer likes to target people who are famous personalities. How does the investigator officer Vikram solves the case is just worth reading. . Keeps you hooked till the end but oh my God the cliffhangers....worth the read
