Charlie Malone was hiding.
She wasn’t proud of the fact, but when you stare evil in the face and it wins, it marks you.

But Charlie has a secret—one that very few know.
When an old friend calls and asks for her help, Charlie's first instinct is to say no.

Leaving what has become her safe haven to travel to Liars Island is the very last thing she wants to do.
Yet, if there’s anything that the last five years have taught Charlie it’s that sometimes when darkness calls…

You have to answer.

Dark Harbor by Emma Mason, a pen name for a best selling author (who!?!) is a stand alone addition to the series Liar's Island. The Liar's Island premise is fairly intriguing actually. A slew of authors write a mystery novel or novella that can stand alone but which are tied together by the island itself. There are shared harbors, shops, inns, etc., but the characters themselves are not intertwined. I have enjoyed some of the books in this series more than other and, obviously, Dark Harbor featuring Charlie Malone, has been one of my favorites to date. Since you don't have read any of the books in order, Dark Harbor is a good place to begin. Enjoy!

Well shit. This was good. I’ll be honest though I kinda need to sit with that conclusion for a moment to make full sense of it. But sooo good. I’m normally not a fan of detective stories but this held my attention so well!

4.5/5 stars rounded up!

Whenever I fancy a change from the romance genre, I always turn to thrillers. There's nothing better than getting drawn into the whole who done it guessing game. This story had everything I wanted and definitely need more from.

Dark Harbor was a riveting story that kept my attention throughout and I really enjoyed reading it. I liked the suspense and the connection between the characters.
Gabe and Charlie are old friends that have to once more work together when they think history may be repeating itself.

There was an underlying creepiness because of the history between Charlie and Gabe. It hinted to the horrors they experienced and exactly how it cemented their friendship. I really liked that, it added depth to the story.

Charlie was a fantastic character her unique skills were fascinating and added to the mystery. I'm excited to read more from Charlie, the ending set up a nice little teaser for what's in-store next, very intriguing and I can't wait.

I absolutely loved this short book. It may have been short but it had everything in it you could want and was amazing. This story captivated me from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down, the fast pace, terrific action and drama continued all the way until the very end.

I loved Charlie Malone, her character was strong, much stronger than I would have been after going through what she had, and she truly cared about the victims. I also liked her no nonsense approach amd her self honesty. Um… can you tell I am in awe of this fantastic new character? 😆

The mystery in this thriller was engaging and took me by surprise once it was revealed—always a sign of good plotting! Great descriptions and interesting secondary characters help to make this even more exciting.

I look forward to the next book… I will need to learn how to be patient as I want it now!🤷🏻‍♀️

Another satisfying Liar's novella. Charlie receives a phone call from old colleague Gabe about a murder committed by a serial killer they were both injured while apprehending. Nightmares scar Charlie as they are the dead's way of communicating with her. (I'm not into psychic books (but this one was actually ok & not far fetched). Something is amiss on the island and she's getting a bad feeling and add in two police detectives and a twisty surprising whodunit. Looking forward to the next in the series by a different author! It looks like the author is going o release another book with Charlie featured but I can't find any info besides in the back of this book??

A fantastic start to what I'm sure will be an awesome series.

Charlie is retired and that's how she'd like to stay. Locked away in the privacy of her own home. Then an old friend calls her out of retirement to help hunt down a killer from back in her days as a detective. I love mysterious books that keep me guessing, and I was guessing all the way to the end. I thought I saw how this was all going to end but I was very wrong.

Grab your copy today so you can see how it all unfolds for the retired detective. The ending also alludes to a fantastic story line for book 2.

Crap on a cracker, I was NOT expecting that! I've been looking for a good "who done it" story and man did I find one. It had just the right amount of creepiness and edge-of-your-seat action that I like in psychological thrillers. The best part, I wasn't able to figure out who the villain was until it was exposed! Most times I have an inkling of who it could be but not this time. Mason did a really good job at keeping me guessing. I can't wait to get more from her.

What can I say other than what a fantastic novella! Suspenseful, fast-paced, and interesting, I enjoyed every word. I cannot wait to read more about Charlie and how her relationship with Kade evolves. I see a lot of promise in this series and, hopefully, many more stories will be written. Download and give Dark Harbor a read. I think you will really like it.

Dark Harbor

It's like out of the gate and into the frying pan with Charlie and Gabe. They let him get away before when he escaped and tried killing them but will he get away again this time and how far will they go to catch up with the Peterson killer
