Alexa B. James is the contemporary romance pen name for a 2-time USA Today Bestselling author of YA paranormal romance.
Alexa is a mom, wife, librarian, and country girl at heart. When she's not pounding away on her keyboard, you can find her in her garden, chasing chickens around the yard, or holed up under a blanket with a cup of coffee and a book with lots of kissing. She loves romance novels of every variety (why choose?) and plans to publish more this year.
Cheating MFC, poor writing, excessive use of troupes.
This was a KU book that had a great rating so I thought I would give it a shot.
Honestly, I am having trouble continuing and I’m only on chapter 16 in the first book. I get that she has spent her life caged, but she has now taken two additional mates, without a single conversation with her first mate/alpha. I am genuinely angry at this so called MFC!
I have very little issue with how fast everything is moving, but I do have significant issues with her not talking about it with those involved. She is cheating on her mates, and then expecting them to just accept it because it’s what she wants. That’s not how it works, and if the author is going to do RH and poly relationships, then she should familiarize herself with how it is done successfully. It’s not even like she didn’t have time to talk to Maximus, her and Owen went down for breakfast, and then suddenly it was the next day, and she still hadn’t talked to him about having taken another mate.
Then she runs off with Cash and has sex with him without so much as a “oh, by the way I have multiple mates” to Any Of Them!!! I can ignore the blatant use of tropes to move your story along, but at this point it’s hard for me to see this girl as a heroine, and she is certainly not leader or ruler material.
If anything her behavior puts her inline with villains of other stories. You know the ones where a good man was broken by a cheating self serving emotionally abusive ex and now the Real heroine has to show him what a healthy relationship looks like.
All of this before we even touch on the poor writing.
I have 3 hours left before bed, but I’m not going to waste anymore time on this story.
5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.
4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.
3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.
2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.
1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.
Her Wolf This was a quick read. Ariana was born into slavery and has to fight to ge anything. She has lived her life as a wolf fighting. When the alpha wolf shows up at a fight she feels that she is just getting a new master. When she hears about being the silver shifter she has no idea what they are talking about. The other clans hear about her being found. What is she going to do? Who can she trust? Why does she have feelings for all of them?
Her Dragon Wow, really enjoying this series, can’t wait for the next book. We have Ariana who’s is still trying to get use to being the silver shifter and is suppose to bring the clans together. Her four mates are still wanting to protect her. Everyone is trying to get her. Can her mates protect her. Jett still has not accepted her as her mate. Can she even trust him? He seems to know more about the Vampires then anyone else. Why is everyone after her? Will she succeed in finding peace for the 4 clans? Will she get caught by everyone that is after her?
Her Bear OMG, this book has action, suspense, love, hate, and betrayal. Ariana has been kidnapped. Can her mates find her? Was it the Vampires? Was it the Warlock Was it someone else? Who could betray her? Can she ever bring the Clans together? Will her mates be able to save her? What is really going on?
Her Panther We finish up the story of Silver Shifter Prophecy. With a possible run off. I only gave this a four star cause I felt it was kind of rushed at the end. We still have a great written story of love, trust, and suspense. Can Ariana ever except Jett as her mate with everything he has done? Can they take the Vampire Queen down? Can they destroy the monsters that the lab made from her blood? Can she get the packs of New York to United?
I did not receive a copy of the "Her Curse" or "Her Gift" So I never wrote a review on these two.
I barely had a chance to read much of the book before the repetitive complaint of the female protagonist, Ariana, convinced me that I was wasting my time. Ariana is rescued from an illegal fighting ring where she has been kept captive for most of her life. Upon rescue, anytime that anyone says anything she doesn’t like or tries to offer her guidance in any way, she responds that if she can’t do whatever it is that she wants that she might as well be back in the fighting pits. One would think that Ariana might be interested in food, shelter, general warmth, or have some curiosity about the world, but no.
As a side note, I’ve recently come across several novels that feature female characters who have been kept in captivity for most or all of their youth. To date, only one mentioned that the character was not only traumatised, but that she also had both physical and mental deficits as a result that required significant work to overcome.
I really enjoyed the series. It was well thought out and the characters are well developed. It's a great shifter series and the story doesn't get lost in the reverse harem angle. It's not all sex. My two major complaints are editing and even though the series was wrapped up, the biggest issue wasn't dealt with. The Lamia Queen. I gave it three stars because i don't feel like the story was completed and the editing was bad.
The first 3/4 of this book I thought was great, well written, and steamy. However the ending felt extremely rushed. The book could have been much longer, and I wish those ending details had been flushed out better. I felt like a lot of good steamy scenes and bonding with the whole crew, as well as the action to get to the ending were left out. It felt like the entire ending was crammed into just a few pages.
When I picked up this th, I was not prepared to be so blown away! Ariana is a kickass heroine with four of the most delicious alphas backing her up. The series is full of steamy love, danger, intrigue, magic, shifters and wonderfully complex characters. Put this on your must read list! Oh, and the two short stories at the end are just so detail icing on this steamy cake!
Of found this series to be a little slow going at the start but the pace picked up in book 2 and before I knew it I was on book 3! I knew Katy was trouble but didn't think he'd be quite as bad as he was. Loved the extra 2 short stories at the end, they completed Ari's story but there was unfinished business with the vampires.
Loved the story and it was a great series, kinda wished there was a book at the end with her defeating Helena and helping develope peace with the vampires but all the same it was great.
Rushed!! Not really a romance - she really doesn't build a relationship between any of the characters. First they all dislike each other and have trouble trusting the other species, than like a light switch was flicked they all are best friends. Annoying.
