Dead in the Family
If you think your family relationships are complicated, think you haven't seen anything like the ones in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie Stackhouse is dealing with a whole host of family problems, ranging from her own kin (a non-human fairy and a telepathic second cousin) demanding a place in her life, to her lover Eric's vampire sire, an ancient being, who arrives with Eric's 'brother' in tow at a most inopportune moment. And Sookie's tracking down a distant relation of her ailing neighbour (and ex), Vampire Bill Compton.
Dead until Dark
Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much - not because she's not pretty - she's a very cute bubbly blonde - or not interested in a social life. She really is . . . but Sookie's got a bit of a disability. She can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable. And then along comes he's tall, he's dark and he's handsome - and Sookie can't 'hear' a word he's thinking. He's exactly the type of guy she's been waiting all her life for. But Bill has a disability of his he's fussy about his food, he doesn't like suntans and he's never around during the day . . . Yep, Bill's a vampire. Worse than that, he hangs with a seriously creepy crowd, with a reputation for trouble - of the murderous kind. And then one of Sookie's colleagues at the bar is killed, and it's beginning to look like Sookie might be the next victim . . .
Living Dead in Dallas
Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse is having a streak of bad luck. First her co-worker is killed, and no one seems to care. Then she comes face-to-face with a beastly creature which gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn't enjoy it). The point they saved her life. So when one of the bloodsuckers asks for a favour, she obliges - and soon Sookie's in Dallas, using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire. She's supposed to interview certain humans involved, but she makes one the vampires must promise to behave, and let the humans go unharmed. But that's easier said than done, and all it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly.
Club Dead
There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with - at least voluntarily - and that's Bill. But recently he's been a little distant - in another state distant. His sinister and sexy boss Eric has an idea where to find him, and next thing Sookie knows she's off to Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the underworld at Club Dead. It's a dangerous little haunt where the elusive vampire society can go to chill out and suck down some Type O - but when Sookie finally finds Bill caught in an act of serious betrayal she's not sure whether to save him, or to sharpen some stakes.
Dead to the World
Sookie comes to the rescue of a naked, amnesiac vampire - and ends up in the middle of a war between witches, werewolves and vampires! Sookie Stackhouse is a small-town cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's pretty. She does her job well. She keeps to herself - she has only a few close friends, because not everyone appreciates Sookie's she can read minds. That's not exactly every man's idea of date bait - unless they're undead - vampires and the like can be tough to read. And that's just the kind of guy Sookie's been looking for. Maybe that's why, when she comes across a naked vampire on the way home from work, she doesn't just drive on by. He hasn't got a clue who he is, but Sookie Eric looks just as scary and sexy - and dead - as the day she met him. But now he has amnesia, he's sweet, vulnerable, and in need of Sookie's help - because whoever took his memory now wants his life.
Dead as a Doornail
Sookie's got just a month, before the next full moon, to find out who wants her brother dead - and to stop the fiend! Sookie Stackhouse enjoys her life, mostly. She's a great cocktail waitress in a fun bar; she has a love life, albeit a bit complicated, and most people have come to terms with her telepathy. The problem is, Sookie wants a quiet life - but things just seem to happen to her and her friends. Now her brother Jason's eyes are starting to he's about to turn into a were-panther for the first time. She can deal with that, but her normal sisterly concern turns to cold fear when a sniper sets his deadly sights on the local changel...
Charlaine Harris has been a published writer for over forty years. Her first two books were standalones, followed by a long sabbatical when she was having children. Then she began the Aurora Teagarden book, mysteries featuring a short librarian (eventually adapted for Hallmark movies). The darker Lily Bard books came next, about a house cleaner with a dark past and considerable fighting skills.
Tired of abiding by the mystery rules, Harris wrote a novel about a telepathic barmaid that took at least two years to sell. When the book was published, it turned into a best seller, and DEAD UNTIL DARK and the subsequent Sookie books were adapted in Alan Ball's "True Blood" series. At the same time, Harris began the Harper Connelly books. Harper can find the bones of the dead and see their last minute.
When those two series wound to a close, the next three books were about a mysterious town in Texas, called Midnight.
A change in publisher and editor led to Harris's novels about a female gunslinger in an alternate America, Lizbeth Rose. The Gunnie Rose books concluded with the sixth novel.
Fun and short enough to read quickly. Starts off like the tv series but very quickly veers away. I think some of the storylines are better in the books but because they are drawn out over a longer period of time. You get introduced to more interesting characters. The series starts strong and the first half is great. The last couple of books feel like the writer is fed up and things move too quickly and are rushed. The last book really tarnished my whole view of the series, so maybe stop at book 12 and make your own ending!
Love love loved this series!!! The author made it feel as if I was really in the south experiencing all the things happening and sookie's world and her adventures. It felt so realistic like it could really still happen lol. It was beautifully written and the audible version was wonderful to listen to at the southern accents
I loved this series. Sookie is great. I wish there were more written with her and Eric. The time they spent together when he couldn’t remember and then after when he got his memory back. He just knew something was different between them. I read all the books and the bonus reads and listened to the audiobooks multiple times. Great series.
This book series have been my childhood and been through my teenage years. To be honest this one of the series I really stuck reading oen book after another.
I really like the characters and the story as well is amazing. :)
Okay, let me begin this by saying...WOW. I first picked up this book series to read years ago, and I just couldn't get into it. Then I picked this book up and began reading it and I absolutely refused to put the book down. I loved absolutely everything about the series.
Do not expect the book and the tv show to stay the same. After book three it's a hundred and fifty percent different. Though of course the books are so much better and unique.
Harris's mind is unique in itself and the thought that she came up with the story on her own is just pure perfection. Though there were times when I hated her and there were times when I absolutely loved her and couldn't help it. Her writing is definitely one of a kind.
I loved this series so much that I bought the whole series and will definitely reread. This is such an amazing story and just doesn't compare to any other paranormal that I'd read recently. After finishing the last book, I am now having trouble finding a book to read.
Sookie has just enough intelligence and humor to make this book a joy to read.
Yaaaasssss. I love this series along with the show adaptation. Sookie stay’s agitating me though at points and Bill enjoys my soul. Eric though ? That’s my man’s. His character is phenomenally made. I was extremely disrespected in book 4 when he loses his memories. That made his whole character build almost crumble. To take a strong character and then basically Infantilize him was rough and should of been rethought. Overall though, I enjoy the story along with the show as well.
I had seen the true blood series some time ago. I loved the series but I must say that the books are so much better. Plenty of action, keeps you booked from the beginning. Filled with vampires, werewolves, shifters, far and other world beasts. I would highly recommend these books.
I've listened to this series once before (and watched the show). I do enjoy these books & think Charlaine Harris is a good author. I don't know why I don't love these books though. Is it because they're now a bit outdated or did I just fail tofall for any of the characters? Maybe I'll never know.
