Phantasma: The Awakening is a Greek-inspired supernatural story that held my attention from the start and kept me genuinely curious about where it was heading.
We follow Carissa, whose everyday life as a cop shifts in unexpected ways when she stumbles into a hidden supernatural world, one layered with danger, identity, and connection. Alongside her journey is Xen, a leader of the Phi Athanatoi, whose path intertwines with hers in ways that feel both fated and emotionally charged. Their dynamic brings together love, discovery, and the tension of hidden truths.
One of the standout elements for me was the deep connection to Greek culture and mythology. While Greek myth is often used in fiction, this story goes further by grounding it in lived culture, language, family dynamics, and food, which added a richness and authenticity that felt thoughtful and immersive. It was genuinely refreshing to see those details woven through the narrative rather than used purely as aesthetic inspiration.
There were moments where the pacing felt a little abrupt, with some actions moving quickly rather than being fully explored, which occasionally disrupted the flow for me. That said, it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment. The strength of the world-building, the themes, and the mythology kept me engaged right through to the end.
Overall, this was an intriguing and atmospheric read that blends mythology, supernatural elements, and emotional connection in a way that kept me turning pages.
I received this book as an ARC, however this review reflects my honest thoughts and feelings shared voluntarily.
