The book was a bit slow at first but well worth it. It was amazing the amount of detail and research that was put into this. The characters were well written

I really really enjoyed the book.

Looking forward to a second book in the series if there is one.

I enjoyed the book, but I’m not sure I would have read it yet if I had realized that the story was unfinished, and I would have to wait for the sequel. My husband, who recommended the book to me, failed to mention that tidbit of information.

I’ve always enjoyed time travel stories and the idea of time travel, so that made it appealing to me. For it to be this author’s first book, I think she did quite a good job, but there were a few issues (more on that later). Garrett and Kara and Daniel were all very likable characters, and I really look forward to reading the rest of their story. It’s funny because I was actually thinking to myself as I was about half way through this book that there is probably enough content from this idea for two or three books, so I am happy to see that there will be a sequel.

I always like books that are set back in history, so that aspect helped me to enjoy it as well. I did have a couple problems with the book that kept me from giving it five stars. There were a couple places where I thought the dialog left out some things that would have helped understand the situation a little better. One was when Tom had his Dad in the office and Jerome was having difficulty breathing. It wasn’t really explained what was going on there. Was he having a panic attack? Was he having a heart attack? Did the noise that was mentioned come from Tom throwing something at the wall, or was it something else? I read that section three times. It just wasn’t explained well. There was one other place in the book where I felt the information was lacking, but I didn’t make note of it and don’t remember what it was.

There were a couple times where I felt like the characters and the author had this secret between them that they wanted to point out, but wouldn’t dare tell you what it is. A couple of these instances occurred between Daniel and Kara. She asked some questions at different times, there were smiles, there was some information that never led to anything else, and that was the end of it. Maybe these are things that will be revealed in the next book, but given the information, I doubt I will remember it at that point if it is. There were other times that things were said that never went anywhere. Loose ends always bother me.

SPOILERS

I was bothered about how James arrived there. He said to Garrett that they both found the cave. In Garrett’s case, they were given explicit instructions, including how they were to concentrate on the specific date so they would arrive on the correct day. This was mentioned more than once. What bother me is this — how did James get to that time period? If he just happened upon it, he didn’t have the instructions. Was it just random for him? I’m still curious about that. The thinking about the time thing was weird to me, but if that was the case (it’s a fictional book after all), I would have liked to have had that explained.

I had the idea that Mr. Harrison (in the 1870 time period) was a time traveler, too. There were subtle clues to that. Given the very last page where John reveals where he obtained the book he reveals to Garrett and Kara, this is very likely, and I’m guessing more will be revealed in the next book.

There’s one other question I have about the time travel, but I will save that to ask the author, if I can ever figure out her real name. At the moment, since the book is so new, there is no information about her or the book.

All in all, the story line was good enough to get past the oddities and the few grammar errors. I will look forward to the sequel.
