Flirting with the Rock Star Next Door

Rate this book
"The obnoxious drummer neighbor I reported for noise pollution? Turns out he’s the biggest rock star in the country! Oops."I write romance because true love doesn’t happen in real life. My parents’ marriage and a string of failed relationships have taught me that. Then Killian Axelrod moves in next door. He’s a rock star, and hot as hell. Wicked blue eyes. A body made for sin. Cocky attitude. If he was on a romance cover, I’d one-click it without even reading the title.Too bad he's such a pain.He tries to steal my favorite specialty ice cream. He drums so loud I can’t hear myself think. Then comes over in nothing but a towel when his water heater dies so he can finish his shower with my hot water. But then he cooks me breakfast. Rescues me from an evil snake. Kisses me like I’m the girl of his dreams. Sings like I’m the only one in the audience. It doesn’t seem to matter to him that I’m not a size two, my yoga pants have holes, and I don’t put makeup on every morning.I know there are no happy endings in real life, but Killian makes my heart flutter and makes me wonder…Can we have a romance novel ending for real?Flirting with the Rock Star Next Door is a standalone, opposites-attract romantic comedy. It comes with a hot AF rock star who thinks his next-door neighbor is a femme fatale in a T-shirt and yoga pants, a quirky romance writer with a no-filter mouth, and lots of banter. Oh, and the sexiest karaoke night ever...which has a lot more than singing. No cheating, no cliffhanger. Just oodles of heat, heart and humor. Grab it today!

I was looking for a fun book to cheer me up and that's exactly what Flirting With a Rockstar did for me when I needed it most.  I was hooked from the beginning after reading those hilarious opening scenes and knew right away- this book is going to be the perfect antidote to lift my sagging spirits.  Pandemic overload is a real thing!!!

Quirky and slightly crazy romance writer with hermit-like tendancies meets a sexy stranger who's made a terrible impression and is now her new neighbor.  What a wonderfully funny beginning!! Sparks may be flying but so are their tempers and the paybacks they come up with were so priceless. Pranks, problems and one up manships keep their game rolling as Emily and Killian mess with each others mojo to the point of distraction. There were a boatload of witty comebacks, silly, comedic situations and so much personality in these two leading characters.  Sometimes you might love one or the other but in this case, I just got a kick out of both of them!!

When the pretty writer finally realizes her handsome nemesis is a famous, talented rockstar, she's not sure how to act.  She can be found hiding out in her writers cave and is perfectly happy to be left alone but he hasn't gotten that memo! As Emily and Killian spend more time together, they enjoy each other's company more than they care to admit.  These amazing characters have the kind of once in a lifetime chemistry that can't be denied and that awkward friendship begins to turn into a burning passion that left me thrilled to pieces.  I was really invested in their future happiness and loved every minute of this all around amazing romance.  Good laughs, steamy swooniness, beautiful endings and my good mood has finally been restored!  I've found a new to me author who's sense of humor and flare for a well written story has a brand new fan...me!

Opposites-Attract/Rock Star Romance
I loved this next-door neighbor/opposites-attract/ rock star romance. It is written in first person from a dual POV.
Killian is everything you want in a rock star hero. He is incredibly hot, kind, and humble. He has worked hard for his success and has reached a point where he wants to be wanted for himself. He is tired of being used for someone else’s success. Emily is a romance author who has been successful, despite having a personal view that happily ever after only exists in books. She has baggage, doubts, and a cynical, introverted nature. I love that she is perfectly comfortable being herself. I really love that she unashamedly goes after what she needs for herself.
The meet cute in the book is hilarious. I loved the miscommunications that occur early on. There are some absolutely hilarious moments. I love how Emily matches the description that many authors admit to meeting while in the middle of writing a book and meeting a deadline. I love that Killian adores her messy and bare faced in yoga pants. I love the heat they generate together. I also appreciated the other band members and Emily’s writer friends who are supportive and funny. I loved Killian’s sister, Miriam. She is a cool character that I want to see more of in the future. I am hopeful that this is the beginning of a beautiful interconnected series of standalones that focus on the band. I laughed, loved the steamy moments, and dreaded the black moment while reading. Their HEA comes full circle with sweet feelings, laughter, and ice cream. If you like a rock star romance, you will want to read this one.

DNF 30% sorry. Weak staying power I know. Emily is the eccentric romance author desperately trying to finish her book in order to win a bet with her dad. Killian is a convalescencing rockstar neighbour who makes too much noise.

It had the right ingredients but it just all felt a bit fake romcommy to me. I just didn’t quite believe in the characters and felt it was starting to drag a little. It was a bit too cute and nice for me. The ‘bad’ characters were too bad to really believe. The writer writing about a romance writer just felt a bit cringy, i’m not sure why. And Killain just felt too nice to be a rockstar!

Sorry, I’m really sure it’s just me. This was not my personal cup of tea right now.

3.25 stars.

This had some pretty funny and cute moments and starred surprisingly mature characters. I mean, they were pretty mature compared to the majority of the MCs in this author's books. They didn't always communicate well, but did for the most part when it counted which ultimately is what kept me engaged. Call me an old fogey or whatever, but I'm bored by YA stories that feature MCs who never talk about anything important and only care about outward appearances. Bor-ing.

Anyway, although there were quite a few tropes here, but as always, with Nadia Lee's engaging storytelling, I didn't really mind. And unlike most of her other stories that I recall, this one had not one but two epilogues! I appreciated that. Very sweet. I also found it quite humourous that this was basically a romance author writing about a romance author and her various struggles. It was pretty interesting and I have to admit that I've never really thought about that side of things much.

So why not more stars? Well, I didn't really like all the mentions of the hero's past. I mean, the author really made him seem like a very decent guy, unlike his complete manho of a bandmate, Dev. (Reminder to self to skip his book if he gets one. He sounded totally gross.) However, why the author felt the need for the H to think about his exes so often, I don't know. The heroine had some relationships of her own so at least there's that. I skipped the intimate scenes (but there maybe have been two more more, can't remember), and maybe the hero had some "this is unique with her and only her" thoughts, but I can't speak to that.

Overall, I think the author did a solid job laying the foundation for a non-superficial relationship between the MCs. It didn't feel like insta-love, and they really seemed to like each other for more than just appearances. However, I don't usually say this, but their story might've been even stronger had it had a couple of more chapters with the MCs being a couple, doing regular everyday things (and not just sleeping together constantly). I continue to enjoy Nadia Lee's writing and hope that Nadia S. Lee makes a comeback! That would just be the best. :)

Not so cute

I thought about this review all day before writing.

The book was well written. The plot was good

My biggest objection was the use of alcohol as a cute personality quirk. It is not funny when a young person is drinking all day and night. This heroine would open a beer for breakfast and drink all day. This is not a Cute characteristic, this is an addiction

Flirting With The Rock Star Next Door by Nadia Lee is a sweet, feelgood, funny, and lighthearted romance read. Emily and Killian definitely bring the chemistry, heat, feels, and laughs in this story. He's a sexy-as-sin rocker while she's a beautiful, sassy romance writer. You'd think opposites would not attract but not these two. There's so much attraction, connection, chemistry...you name it. Emily just speaks and doesn't filter what she says. It's so funny yet refreshing to read the reaction to others as she speaks out. Killian is what was missing in her life, gets her to have fun. She shows him what he was missing. Great story and the secondary characters are a riot! Hope they get their own story.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *********

Emily is a successful romance novelist who is jaded by what she has seen by the way others treat those they profess to love. She isn’t shy about sharing her opinions and is more about comfort than cosmopolitan.

Killian is a successful musician who is taking a respite from the demands and stress of his career. From his first meeting with Emily he is enchanted by her and now he just needs to convince her that the reward of being with him is well worth the risk.

Humor, heat and two great characters who even though they face a few challenges along the way inspire each other both personally and professionally.

This book was a little bit too long for their own good, it dragged on things like the creative process of both MC in their respective work field, a totally unnecessarily detailed description about ice cream and beer and some details about past relationships you could've just read once and understand perfectly the point.
Also, I know the drama with the father was important BUT it felt forced and boring, I skipped the majority of those lines.
Although, I liked it a lot, it was a fun and light read, perfect for a reading slump.

A most read !!!

Nadia did it again wrote one of the best and funniest romcom . I love Emily and Killian they were so fun and loving. Emily is romcom Author that has a book do at the end of the month but is having so writer’s block. So she needs so peace and quiet. But her next door neighbor(a rock star) has comeback for some down time after being in tour to his grandma’s house . If you need something to make you fall in love and laughter at the same time this is the story .

My first venture into Nadia's books & what an introduction it was!! Something about her writing style really grabbed me! I feel like, to be truly beneficial, a review shouldn't be ambiguous, but I can't quite articulate my feelings. This book develops the characters in a way that reads like the natural progression of getting to know someone. Maybe that's enough of a vouch for you, from me; a stranger. Read this one now!

This is a lighthearted and fun rom/com. There's only a smidgeon of angst in this feel good, slow burn romance. Killian is a perfectly nice rock star and Emily is a hardworking and introverted romance author. The scenes with the Barbie sextet were fun and I have nothing bad to say about the writing or the story, only that I thought it was fairly average of this genre and perfect for an uncomplicated read. 3.5 stars. PS - Everyone is pretty happy in this book.

Holy hotness!

What do you do when your next door neighbor is a rockstar? You tell at him for being too loud. Emily looks like a bit of a hot mess, working as a romance author with soothing to prove on a tight deadline has Emily on edge & then Kilian comes to town with his own baggage. Another 5 star read from Nadia Lee! I hope this is the start of a new series of interconnected stand alones... I need more Emily & Killian!!

Emily, a romance writer, and Killian, a rock star, meet and sparks fly, just maybe not the good kind at first. Can two people with the love of the same ice cream, but not music, find true love like those Emily writes about? They must work hard for their HEA.

Romance author and rock star

This book is hilarious!! Emily, talks to her own character out loud and seems crazy to Killian in the beginning. It’s so funny. I loved how it came full circle from the first encounter to the ending with ice cream. 😂

Wow...just WOW! What a good book! Nadia Lee's books are always good but this one is over the top good! Emily is a funny and quirky writer and Killian is a hot, but sweet Rock Star. I enjoyed everything about this book. It has great characters, moments of laugh out loud funny, and the romance is sweet with just enough steam. I am hoping that Mir and Dev get their own books soon! I highly recommend this book and ALWAYS this author.

I was given an ARC of this book for a fair and honest review

Another hit! Nadia has done it again. I was really hoping for something fresh and not along the typical boring girl falls for the rock star romance and boy did it deliver!

Emily is a romance writer who doesn't believe in true love. Killian is the rockstar who hates the publicity that comes with job. They are stuck together in a small town. She's stubborn and set in her ways. Hes used to everyone giving him exactly what he wants with no hesitation. What could possibly go wrong?

The sparks fly and their chemistry was undeniable from the start. Even if it did start with a tug of war for some ice cream. Then they find out they are neighbors and quite literally in each others space all the time and the Rollercoaster begins.

My emotions definitely ran the gauntlet while reading this story. I was angry & disappointed. I laughed and I even cried a little. I liked how well the backstories were given. These are brand new characters and I really enjoyed getting to know them as they got to know each other.

Its been a long time since a novel got to me this way. I hope the supporting characters in this novel get their own stories and we get to see Kilian and Emily again. ❤

Killian & Emma

Dual POV. Standalone. New characters unrelated to previous books by this author. Trigger warnings: cheating; emotionally abusive dad; Grandma passed away.

Killian is a rock star (multi musical instrument player & lead singer in his own band) taking a break in his grandmother's former home. Emily is a best selling rom-com author on deadline for her next release. This couple and their story will have you smiling and falling in love.

He had to ask forgiveness literally on his knees after he felt he was being used but she didn't even say sorry when her "team" used his picture to promote her work without his knowledge.

Double standard much??

So our two main characters are both 'artists' hes in a famous rock band and she writes romance novels. They both have a bit of writers block. Him more so than her.

They meet when they both go for the last tub of ice cream. He is surprised that she doesn't recognise him and he think she is crazy. She also takes the last of the beer he likes. She loses a contact before she meets him and he thinks shes got a twitch which i thought was funny.

So she has a bet with her father. He said she wouldn't make the top of the best sellers list and she said she would. I didn't really understand the punishment for loosing the bet. I just thought it was daft. But her dad is the biggest arsehole i think I've ever read.

Because she needs to win the bet she gets mad when her neighbour stats drumming really loudly. She stomps over and they make a deal. He can use her shower because his is broken and he wont make any noise. She agrees and they start to bond and get to know each other. She gets him to act out a fall she was writing in her book to make sure it will work and that's when he starts to fall for her so he tells her just how famous he is.

She has reservations about him because she assumes he is going to be like her dad who shags anything that moves. She gathers that he will cheat with one of the groupies that are always hanging around. The don't kiss until 50% of the book and i have to say it does drag on a little just before the kiss and for a little after.

They finally get together and after the first night together she is thinking she wants to leave with him when he goes back to recording and he is thinking how to ask her to go with him. After one night! Then one of his band-mates turns up with some groupies and she tries to runaway from him but her mum turns up crying and the groupies end up taking care of her and they have a weird breakfast.

So her book comes out and you find out if she won the bet which was kinda anti-climactic. He sees a picture of him and her on her social media and even though he knows she doesn't do her own social media he flips out and says shes using to get success and storms out so she leaves to go to a convention.

He calls his sister and she tells him he is an idiot and that she was a best selling author before him and will be one after so he finds out where she is and goes to her book signing. She tell him to meet her afterwards, he proposes. End of book.

It was kind of an abrupt ending and even though it has two epilogues they were very short.

I loved her friends and his sister. His band mate with the constant harem of women is next and i don't know if i want to be in his head to be honest

This book was an amazing read. Nadia Lee has a way of mixing awesome humor with an “I wish it was me romance.”

This story is about Emily (a romance novelist) and Killian (a famous rock star). Emily is in a bit of a rut when it comes to her writing. We come to find early in the story about a bet she has with her unsupportive dad that surrounds her success as an author. Killian as well, is in his own funk (pun intended), and decides to spend some time at his late grandmothers house to relax and hopefully re-ignite his creative flow. His grandmothers house however, just happens to be right next door to Emily.

The meet cute between the two takes place in a local supermarket and it is exactly the kind of angsty meet cute that makes for a good read. There are arguments over Ice Cream and Beer (hilarious and one of the books running jokes), and within the first altercation, sparks fly. These two characters are so astounded by one another- Killian by Emily not knowing anything about who he is or his celebrity, and Emily by Killian who actually seems interested in who she is and her writing.

The relationship between the two is hot and sexy, while also extremely comical. Each of the main characters goes through their own trials and tribulations, but together these two make the best pair. I am hoping we get further books on the rest of Killian’s bandmates as the book gives us a little insight to each of them, and as always I AM INTRIGUED! The final build up of the story ultimately leads to a happily ever after. One that would make any girl swoon and wish they had their very own Killian! After this read, I know I sure do!!
