Aside from that bit about Asahi going to a cabaret club behind Masato’s back “again” - seriously, why was that included without any sort of explanation?! 🫤 - this (as of now) final volume was pretty much perfect. I knew that Masato was going to be special when he first appeared in Change World and I wasn’t wrong. Seeing his transformation from someone who went around trying to destroy other people’s relationships to dealing with the challenges of being in one himself has been a gratifying experience.
Minaduki didn’t rush anything and allowed his character and relationship with Asahi to develop in a way that was both realistic and moving. Their connection gave each of them the strength to move past old heartbreaks and emotional scars. The way Ashai’s deep-seated insecurities were handled was especially well done. The metaphor about wood having an outward defect but still being strong and durable where it counts was perfect for his situation. I also liked the one involving intricate joinery and how certain couplings make pillars so strong they’re almost impossible to break (Asahi is an architect and would-be carpenter, so it makes sense).
Ito and Iku make an appearance in this volume, but as a couple they’ve become so corny and weird that their presence, both individually and together, always gives me second-hand embarrassment. They’ve always lacked depth, even in their own story, so it doesn’t surprise me how cartoonish they come off in this one. Naru, on the other hand, is a great side character. I love his shamelessly flirtatious personality and how he never hesitates to step in when his friends need help communicating with each other. He may have overstepped a few times, but it always seemed to work out in the end. I look forward to reading his story. As successful as he is, he comes across as a bit lonely and under stimulated. I’m curious to see what kind of person he ends up with.
Minaduki indicated that she may continue this series in the future. I’m not sure that it’s necessary considering how well this volume wrapped everything up, but if she does, I’m definitely reading it. 5 stars
This series is honestly starting to frustrate me, and it makes me sad, because it should, and could, be one of my absolute favorites.
I just...don't get the point of all the incessant flirtatious third party teasing in the midst of what's supposed to be a deeply emotional conclusion to a monogamous love story. I've been stressed about Naru since the second volume of this spinoff, but even the Masato and Arimura bits are getting kind of old. Especially when on the one hand, Masato and Asahi keep talking about how intensely jealous of other people and committed to each other they both are...but Masato keeps play-hitting on Arimura to make Ito mad, and then every single time Naru is on the page, he's talking about how he wants to steal Masato away and make him one of his "kittens."
Meaning his poly "play group," who all show up in the final chapter of this "final" (for now) Love Nest volume, to fling themselves all over Masato until Asahi shows up to fetch him.
What was the point of that scene? Why is that how you conclude four volumes of intense emotional bonding and relationship building for this couple?
And there's that bit with Asahi having a card from a host club in his jacket pocket, which is why Masato got upset and went to Naru's bar to vent in the first place. That didn't actually get explained or resolved. Why was Asahi hanging out with women and accepting a personalized card from one of them? I know he wouldn't be cheating, and it probably was some work thing, but (a) you don't have to go to host clubs for work, you're an architect (b) it's clear that it upset Masato regardless of the context, so it's something Asahi shouldn't be doing. Why didn't they even talk about it?
Then there's the bonus chapter, where Masato goes to the bar again to talk to Naru, this time for some sex advice, and again Naru gets him drunk and pretends to make a move on him, before Asahi shows up and sweeps him away to a hotel room.
It makes me so frustrated that these are the two chapters that close out this series...a fun little jealous twist before we dash off to the new spinoff featuring Naru. (Whom I quite frankly like less and less every time he appears in these volumes.) It makes everything else in the actual story that we're in just...feel totally unresolved to me, which is upsetting.
Because when this series is good, it's amazing!!
I absolutely loved the opening chapters with Asahi talking with Masato's mother. I think that's what makes me so mad, too. In the "final chapter," since I guess the rest of the stuff that made me angry was the "bonus story," Masato's mother is planning to come visit them, and Masato has this really wonderful line that closes out the chapter, and this part of their story, with a promise to tell her something important. Meaning his sexuality, his true self, and his relationship with Asahi. Which she's already figured out on her own, since she's his mother and she loves him absolutely as he is, but she's been waiting for him to be ready to talk about it.
I love that. I love that so much.
Asahi and Masato really do have a great relationship, although I will kind of admit that I'd thought most of the things they were struggling with in this volume had already been addressed in previous ones. I mean, I went back and looked at my other reviews, and I'd literally already written about those topics as things that felt like they'd had great development! So other than some moments that I really liked, a good amount of this very thick volume kind of dragged for me. It felt a bit repetitive.
I did really appreciate all the metaphors about damaged goods, and how the interior of a tree, or a person, can have holes and rot but still hold strong and carry its own particular beauty. And I liked how Masato broke down the difficulties in both his and Asahi's past that ultimately brought them together. If Masato hadn't had a horrible ex, and if Asahi hadn't struggled with sterility and a failed marriage, the two of them wouldn't have met and wouldn't have found their current extraordinary happiness.
I love all those themes. I love how in depth Minaduki goes with these kinds of complicated, adult, always-in-progress relationships.
Having a lot of Arimura and Ito included in the camping getaway should've been great, too, but they sort of...lose their personalities in the Love Nest stories. I still miss them a lot, and I guess I don't get why, if you're going to make a volume this thick with a stupid extra chapter about Naru, you couldn't just switch POVs for a bit and show some more of Arimura and Ito's growth.
I liked that Masato talked with Ito about how much Arimura's family adores Ito and accepts him as his spouse, basically - without officially knowing that's their status - but I want to see that.
Minaduki indicates in the end notes that there's a plan to get back to both of these couples after the Engage spinoff is done, but I'm starting to get kind of fatigued.
I'll see how Naru's story goes, and how I feel about everything once that's concluded. Then I'll revisit these, and maybe some of the sour notes will wash back out. I just wish the bonus stories in this and in volume 2 hadn't been included at all. They were so unnecessary and completely changed the tone, leaving that as the unpleasant final impression in what should've been an absolutely wonderful series.
Just reread this whole series for like the millionth time. I loved them getting together in Love Nest, but in 2nd they really deal with Asahi's feelings of inadequacy and his inferiority complex which I loved how they handled and I just love these two. I liked Sayonara Game when I first read it but this series imo is waaaay better
The bonus scenes were weird, BUT the main story was ✨️chef's kiss.✨️ I loved their communication and dynamic in this one. Their growth in their relationship is amazing. Top tier.
OKAY THAT LINE TOOK MY HEART OUT. Not only is it such a fitting statement for them and such a beautiful way, that I love and am bias toward, to contextualize bad life experiences, it is also a great way to explain my relationship to this series. The first couple of books were meh, but Love Next, especially Love Nest 2nd is one of my favorite series I've read in a hot minute. I love Masato and Asahi's mature relationship and stances on life, and I love how they both are saving the other and helping the other grow and flourish -- and I love how much they want to be better versions of themselves for each other. God. I love their love so much.
Loved the journey of these two. In this last part Asahi gets even a brighter spotlight as he steps into confronting his locked feelings. To himself and how he projects them in others.
Loved it. Even the funny little thing Hozumi finds in Asahi’s pocket, it was so random and I admit kind of unnecessary, but it sets the plot for the following spin-off of Naru’s story. Either way, it was a wild journey and I am so grateful we even get to see more of Iku and Ito.
Can’t wait to read more about the four of them! That little note at the end gabe me hope we’ll see more of them after the spin-off of Naru is completed.
Okay this volume made me tear up. They're so in love. It's incredibly sweet and all the family stuff?? My heart.
I liked this volume a little more, but maybe that's just because it's the second volume and it had an emotional impact on me. You can also feel how much the author cares about the characters and how much thought they put into their story. According to the author's note it seems like she's planning on more spin offs / conclusions for all of the characters so I'll be looking forwards to those.
Masato and Asahi have been living together for a while, but they’re still learning new things about each other every day. When Masato brings Asahi home for the holidays to meet his mom, he plans to be honest about their relationship—but ends up introducing him as just a friend. The moment stirs unexpected emotions in Asahi, revealing how fragile and complex their hidden relationship truly is. I hope we get to see more of Masato and Asahi in the future. Decent conclusion to the Love Nest series.
My gosh this series has such great character growth and wholesome moments. While there are some silly, fun parts, there are also tender heart-to-heart scenes. Again as mentioned before and like the previous novels in the Love Nest books, the smut doesn't distract from the main story. Naru is a wild, cunning influence. It seems this series and universe will continue and we'll see more familiar characters.
One of the best 18+ BL manga series that I have read! If I’m not mistaken, this is the conclusion for the Love Nest series (with two volumes in the original story for these two characters and now two volumes as a follow up). I absolutely adored it and this last volume brought everything to a brilliant conclusion. The writing was spectacular and I have always enjoyed the characters being adults, because it made them more relatable to me as a reader and the romance itself more interesting. It was also just particularly beautiful to see this love story play out while they were handling real life struggles present in every day life.
Sayonara Game
Masato and Asahi have finally made their peace, though it would seem getting Asahi's office space ready for them to live in may be a bit more daunting of a task than originally estimated, especially as Masato is very weak when it comes to bugs. The past will come up yet again with a chance encounter featuring Asahi's ex-wife, though this appears to offer some further closer (with a side of jealousy from Masato) rather than any additional drama as the earlier stories entailed. Overall, the story has a lot of ups and downs rather than a straight line to a happy ending, which in truth is far more realistic of a journey.

why did i think he found a ring in his jacket and not rina’s card…this is the second time i thought a character was gonna propose, i is a fool 😭😶🌫️ but!! im happy to see both our main leads thriving! im glad we got to spend more time with them, and im kinda sad to see them go :,). i do think this sequel series of love nest didnt hold my attention as much as the first but that’s ok. (also i kinda maybe wish there was more drama with masato’s ex but that’s just me lolz 🤪 just wanted to see asahi potentially beat him into a pound cake 🎂) (pps, speaking of asahi, it did irk me when he went and ogled at women, even jokingly,,,like he did it a couple of times so sir, ✋ calm down)
