Bookstore owner and mystery writer Samantha Washington comes to the aid of the cop who once arrested her own grandmother . . .

Sam and Nana Jo are back in sleepy North Harbor, Michigan, where Sam is eagerly awaiting the publication of her first book. In search of more immediate excitement, Nana Jo hits the casino with her fellow Shady Acres Retirement Village gal pals—but they get more than they bargained for when they witness Detective Bradley Pitt decking mayoral candidate John Cloverton.

As Sam well knows, mystery novels are full of brilliant detectives, genius sleuths, and hero cops. Detective Bradley Pitt—aka “Stinky Pitt”—is another story. In the past, the dull-witted detective has mistakenly accused members of Sam’s family for crimes they didn’t commit. Now, it’s his turn: when Cloverton turns up dead, he’s arrested. With his predilection for polyester, Pitt has been wanted by the fashion police for years, but Nana Jo knows her former elementary school math student would never commit murder—it doesn’t add up. Somebody’s framed the flatfoot to take a fall, and Sam and Nana Jo must step in to restore the reputation and good name of Detective Pitt.

Killer Words was another fantastic installment in the Mystery Bookshop series following our characters as they work to clear the name of the cop they've worked with in the past.

After the excitement of solving two murders while in England, mystery bookshop owner Samantha Washington is happy to be home while she anticipates the publication of her first book. After attending a breakfast with their family, Sam and Nana Jo see Detective Bradley Pitt deck mayoral candidate John Cloverton. When Cloverton later turns up dead, Detective Pitt is arrested for his murder. There's no love lost between Sam and the detective who arrested several members of her family, but she doesn't believe he's a murderer. With the help of Nana Jo and the Sleuthing Seniors, Sam works to uncover who framed Detective Pitt and clear his name.

The mystery in Killer Words was well done and I enjoyed how the author put a well known character at the center of the case. Sam and the Sleuthing Seniors have always found Detective Pitt to be a bit lacking when it comes to solving cases which is in part why they became involved in so many murder investigations. For all his faults though, the group doesn't believe Detective Pitt would murder someone. Working to clear a police detective made it so the group had to come at the case from a different angle. With no one inside the police department to pass on information, they had to rely on other sources. I love how many connections the Sleuthing Seniors have and how great they are at chasing down leads. Overall I was happy with the way the case was resolved and how Sam managed to figure everything out in the end.

Sam's writing career has really taken a step forward in this book with the publication of her first book inching closer and closer. I enjoyed watching Sam as she learned there was more to publishing a book than just writing it such as the use of social media. Like the previous books in this series, Sam writes another installment in her British cozy mystery series throughout the book. She continues to use her writing to work out her theories for the real-life murder which is a great way for the author to get across Sam's ideas for the case. In this book, her novel doesn't as closely resemble the real murder as it has in the past which I thought was a nice change of pace compared to the previous books.

Overall Killer Words was a great read and I'm looking forward to reading more from the author in the future. I highly recommend this series for readers looking for a fun cozy mystery series.

In this seventh installment of this great series, Samantha Washington, Nana Jo, and the sleuthing seniors are back again, better than ever.
There are several exciting parts of this book, so I'm not going to spoil anything by revealing too much.
In my opinion, Killer Words is the best of the books so far, and I would highly recommend it, and all the others, to any avid cozy mystery fans.
It was very interesting to read about the mystery, and the rolls of the different characters flowed smoothly, making it easy to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

Good story within a story offering! The characters in the past and the characters in the present are all engaging, relatable, and interesting. The inset story is set in 1930s England and is purported to be the book that the bookshop owner is writing. The bookshop owner and her cadre of sleuths have been gifted with a largess to cover future costs just in time to save their unimaginative but honest local police detective from being railroaded on a murder charge. Add in local politics and it's a great read with plenty of laughs, plot twists, and red herrings !
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Sam is anxious knowing her first book will be published very soon but first in a weird and somewhat delightful twist of fate Detective Bradley Pitt, aka “Stinky Pitt”, gets some of his own medicine when he is arrested for murder after a public altercation, oh heck, it was a smackdown and the subsequent death of mayoral candidate John Cloverton. Sam. Nana Jo, Irma, Dorothy, and Ruby Mae all witnessed the punch but the murder happened later.

There is no love lost between these ladies and the inept Stinky Pitt but Nana Jo knows in her heart he didn’t kill anyone. Positive he has been framed, Sam and the rest of the senior sleuths take on the case to be sure the book isn’t thrown at Detective Pitt.

I get excited when books in this series come out because I know I am in store for a very entertaining read of not one mystery but two.

The characters in the present-day mystery have become near and dear to me and I love catching up in all of their lives. This time there are a lot of things in flux for several characters that Sam has become dependent on. She also faces some exciting changes of her own, including adding the status of published author to her resume. All these characters have developed realistically which makes it very easy to identify with them in several ways. They are so funny especially the ladies from Shady Acres. They are also darn good gamblers and I love the way they spread out those winnings. Sadly, Oreo and Snickers are getting up there in age but at times they act like young pups. I know how that goes. No matter what they are always the best thing to come home to.

The characters in the British historical mystery, the book Sam is writing, are very interesting too. They always seem to be in the thick of something that includes murder. Set just before WWII Sam draws on a little history in her fictional accounts that engages readers as much as the current day encounters.

Both mysteries are clever with twists and turns and very well written and plotted. I really enjoy the way Sam works out the clues in the current mystery while plotting out her own novel. I also am amazed by the way she can write anywhere she can find a secluded spot even at the casino.

For me, this entire series is a must-read. The mysteries are solid and the characters are genuine. Each can be read on its own but take my word for it, they are like potato chips, you can’t eat, I mean read just one. Start at the beginning and sit back and enjoy and giggle a little bit too.

I enjoy this delightful series. The wonderful setting in a bookstore, the extended family and friends, the mystery within the mystery, always something good cooking and of course poodles! This mystery involves someone we love to hate being set up and Sam and Nana Jo are not having it. I did suspect the killer but it was still a good unveiling. There was a lot of closure in this volume and I suspect, but really hope that I am wrong, that this maybe the last in the series.

I love this series as it's very well written and the mysteries are always gripping. This is the best instalment so far, a page turner I couldn't put down and read it in one sitting.
A complex mystery full of possible suspects, red herrings and a solution that came as a surprise.
Ms Burn delivers a very enjoyable novel and her characters are as lovely and well written as usual.
I appreciated the historical cozy part and was happy to catch up with the characters and read about the changes in their life.
Another excellent cozy mystery by this author, strongly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Throughout this series, Detective Bradley "Stinky" Pitt has been Samantha's arch-nemesis. But she and Nana Jo show their true colors when Stinky finds himself accused of murder. Though they're not great friends, they know Stinky is a man of integrity and not one to break the law so they launch an investigation to clear his name.

There are several viable suspects for the murder of pot-stirrer John Cloverton. Cloverton is running for office and doing his best to uncover all the dirt he can on anyone in the community who holds a position of power. It's up to Sam and Nana Jo and "the girls" to find out who had the most to gain by keeping their secrets, regardless of the cost.

There have been issues throughout the series with time, I believe it's because Nana Jo was originally supposed to have been Sam's mother and at the last minute another generation was added but the timeline wasn't corrected accordingly. Adjustments have been made throughout the series, and I think in this book everything finally fits.

This series also features a story-within-the-story, Sam's books that she's writing. In previous books I've felt like those stories were easy to follow but I struggled with it this time. There were lots of characters and I really didn't know who they all were or who was related to who and who was romantically involved with who. That being said, the stories don't relate to anything in the book so not being able to follow them didn't take away from my enjoyment of the rest of the book.

I love the setting, Sam's mystery bookshop with her spacious apartment above. I also like the characters, "the girls" being a rowdy group of seniors who do karate and pick up guys, and "the kids" being Sam's nephews and "adopted" son and their friends. Sam eludes to how things are changing as the kids grow up and her relationship changes and I think the next few books in the series will be very different from the last few. I look forward to reading them.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

I love the “A Mystery Bookshop Mystery” series, and with the addition of the latest installment, Killer Words, this series is definitely one of my all-time favorites. Sam and Nana Jo are magnificent characters, along with the senior sleuths who make readers laugh, cry, and lead them down a path of excitement and entertainment without any pretense. There is nothing about the characters, the setting (who doesn’t love a bookshop?), or the mystery that would make readers put this book down. Add in the chapters from the novel Sam is writing, which are sprinkled throughout the book, and you have the perfect who-dun-it and more.

When Detective Pitt finds himself arrested and put behind bars, he relies on Sam and Nana Jo to clear his name, not that he would ever ask them to do that, but he finds he is grateful that someone believes in his innocence. Having wrongfully accused Nana Jo and Sam of crimes they didn’t commit previously, he now knows what it’s like to be in their shoes. Sam puts the bookshop and her novel to the side as she and the senior sleuths jump into action to save the Detective from going to prison for a murder he didn’t commit and catch a killer.

Killer Words is perhaps the best book so far in this series, but it is hard to say as all of the books are wonderfully written and immensely enjoyable. The suspects are believable, and their motives could easily come from real-world murder cases. The clues are there to be found, but some readers may need a bit more concentration to realize they are a clue at all. Finding the clues and figuring out which suspect is a killer will keep readers happily busy. When the senior sleuths and Sam finally reveal the murderer’s identity, many readers will be surprised. Sam’s bookshop doesn’t play as big of a role as I would like, but that is mainly because I am a glutton for books. This is the only complaint I have with this story. To put it bluntly, this book and series are perfect, and readers will thrill at each and every word.

Samantha Washington is thisclose to being a published author. When she is encouraged to build her brand Nana Jo joins Sam in a Social Media class to learn more. At the end of the first class the teacher is arrested by none other than Detective Brad “Stinky Pitt. While Stinky Pitt might be a horrible police officer, none of the books club and sleuthing members believe he killed anyone. No matter how bad it looks, Sam and Nana Jo are on the case and doing their best to right a wrong before the killer can strike again.

I adore V.M. Burns’ books, both this series and her other set in Tennessee are well written and have the most adorable pups. Her whodunits are well constructed with plenty of red herrings making you question yourself with each and every turn of events. A solid writer for the cozy mystery lover, or anyone who loves a good mystery;.

Killer Words by V. M. Burns was one of those books that I could not put down. From the first page I was totally drawn into Sam and Nana Jo's world.

This time Sam, Nana Jo and the sleuthing seniors need to help Detective Pitt as he's being framed for murder. A story that is swiftly paced, only a select few of suspects (I had it narrowed down to two), some laughter while spending time with all of these amazing women and a scary reveal that had me gripping my Kindle and holding my breath. I love being entertained and captured by a story until I reach the end. Ms. Burns has done it again.

I voluntarily reviewed a digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington Publishing via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Killer Words is the seventh book in the A Mystery Bookshop series by V. M. Burns.

The mayoral race in North Harbor is heating up, and Frank Cloverton is trying to dig up as much dirt on the current mayor. Sam and her family are having brunch at The Avenue, a fancy downtown hotel when Coverton appears near the mayor’s table and starts berating him about how tax monies are being spent. Detective Bradley “Stinky” Pitt, standing near the mayor’s table, goes to escort Cloverton out, and they have words, and Pitt swings at him and nearly knocks him out. A couple of days later, the body of Cloverton is found, having been shot, and the police will arrest Pitt for the killing. Even though Sam and her grandmother, Nana Jo, have had their differences with Pitt’s investigative skill in the past, they certainly don’t feel that he is a killer. They don’t think the police are looking any further than Pitt. So, Nana Jo, her posse, residents from the retirement community where she lives, Sam, Jenna, Sam’s sister, and Sam’s beau, Frank, will begin their investigation. Their sleuthing will them look into marital and corruption in the higher echelon of the local government.

This series has a book within a book. Sam is a budding author; having had her first book published, she includes the manuscript she is currently writing. This book she is writing is set at a country estate in England. Sam finds that working on the manuscript helps her take her mind off the investigation and sort out clues of the actual mystery.

I love this series; the characters are excellent, well-developed, and believable. I would love to know them in real life. My favorite character is Irma. Her comments, occasionally, tend to be “colorful,” but the posse will yell Irma, and she will bite her tongue. The book is well-written and plotted, with enough red herrings that I was kept guessing until the killer was revealed.

I will be watching for the next book in this delightful series.

This is the seventh book in the 'Mystery Bookshop' series by V M Burns and my second one. From the setting to the characters and the theme to the mystery, I absolutely loved this story. It was good to be back with sleuthing seniors, Samantha Washington and Nana Jo. The author's character development is second-to-none and I delighted in the lively dialogue and the interesting plot twists. I love the focus on family - especially the inclusion of those characters who are fully accepted even though they are not blood relatives.

The smooth, clean writing, wonderfully engaging characters, the comedic aspect and the clever, multi-layered mystery that kept me guessing were fantastic and I loved the bookshop setting too. If you are new to this series this book stands alone, but I'll be going back to play catchup with the previous books.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I keep saying I don't like British historical cozies but I love the story within a story and I love that one is a British historical cozy. It makes the story read so much faster because the action never stops. So much fun to read. I love the payback that Det. Pitt got by being accused of the crime. This series keeps getting better and better.

After the loss of her husband, Samantha Washington decided to pursue their dream of owning a mystery bookshop in North Harbor, Michigan. Along with the help and family, her dream becomes a reality. Samantha never realized that opening a mystery bookstore would also give her a quick education in solving murders. In this seventh book in the series, a past student of her grandmother, Nana Jo, Detective “Sinky” Pitt is charged with murder. Although Sinky has created drama for Sam and her family, even arresting some for murder in the past, Nana Jo knows that Detective Pitt would never commit murder. A fashion fax pau of wearing too much polyester yes, but murder? No. Samantha, along with Nana Jo’s band of senior sleuths, put their heads together as well as, relying on their “connections” set out to prove Detective “Stinky” Pitt is innocent. In this installment, another dream becomes a reality. After penning own cozy mystery, set during WWII, Sam is officially a published author!

I have enjoyed this series immensely! Beginning with the first book, The Plot is Murder, I was completely hooked by the characters, and the storyline. The mystery within a mystery is a creative concept adding to the story, and Nana Jo and her band of senior sleuths had me laughing. Samantha is a strong protagonist, with a keen sense of following the myriad of clues. I love Nana Jo and the other characters, with their help on the case, you know they will get down to the nitty gritty. This whole series is five stars for me!

I received this book as a gift, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

There is so much to love about this series. First, there the two-mysteries-for-one aspect where we get the mystery Samantha is involved with and then the one she is writing. Second, there’s the characters, who are so welcoming that they feel like family. Each one has a distinct voice and role in the investigations that it’s so much fun to watch them work. Then, there’s the mysteries themselves, which are well written and keep you guessing until the end. There are a lot of surprises in this one and big changes are coming soon to all the characters. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

There are many things that grabbed and held my attention in this exciting cozy mystery. Each character is illustrated as fitting their role. I really like the core group, including Samantha and Frank, Nana Jo and the Senior Sleuths. Sam followed the dream that she and her late husband had shared of owning a mystery bookstore. She is also a new author with her first British cozy mystery releasing soon, and we get to read parts of her next novel as she writes it. Both mysteries are quite challenging.

Nana Jo, Sam’s grandmother, helps at the bookstore, as do her twin nephews, who will soon graduate from the university. During the week, Nana Jo stays with Sam in her huge loft upstairs from the bookstore. Sam often joins Nana Jo and her friends from their retirement community on their outings. They are going to the casino tonight, where each has their preferred spot to play. When Sam finishes at her machine, she finds a quiet spot to work on her novel. Writing is something she enjoys doing, and it helps her relax and work through the murder investigations she and the Senior Sleuths get into.

Sam’s historical British cozy is especially interesting to me as I learned some things about WWII from a different perspective. There are real people and events referenced, and some of her characters are related to British royalty. Sam’s novel shows another side of V.M. Burns and her talent to research and write historical cozies.

Sam, along with Nana Jo and her friends, have helped solve several murders to date. The cases were ones that she or her loved ones had a vested interest in, including when they recently visited London. The detective in North Harbor, Detective Bradley “Stinky” Pitt, has tried to arrest Sam and people she loves for crimes they didn’t commit, which began their quests to find the real bad guys. This time, Stinky is on the hot seat in jail. While it is clear he has been set up by somebody, Sam doesn’t want to help find the person who killed the detective’s ex-wife’s husband and framed him for it. Nana Jo remembers Detective Pitt when she taught him math in elementary school and knows he couldn’t have done it.

Nana Jo and Sam visited Mildred, Pitt’s ex-wife and widow of the murdered mayoral candidate, John Cloverton. Mildred knows that John had affairs with several younger women since they have been married and seemed to accept it. Due to his religious beliefs, she said he would never divorce her.

Sam, Nana Jo, and those helping them found several possible suspects and try to put all the pieces together. One of the issues John had brought to light before his murder is how North Harbor needs to investigate the accounting practices of the current mayor and chief of police, as he believes there is a serious misappropriation of funds.

There is a delightful mix of characters, each one distinctly demonstrated throughout. I was very impressed with the grace demonstrated by each of those involved with clearing Detective Pitt’s name despite the past. I like Sam best, then Nana Jo, and one of Nana Jo’s friends, Ruby Mae. Ruby Mae has a huge family that stretches around the world. When they need information, Ruby Mae usually has a family member who can help. These women are living their respective dream in exemplary ways. This time Sam’s mother Grace and her new husband, Harold, have huge surprises for the family.

There are two murder mysteries in each novel, one in the present day and one in 1939 England. Both are intriguing, yet perhaps the one in 1939 is more challenging for me due to political implications. I appreciate the fast pace and humor. Most of the characters have grown since the beginning of the series through personal, business, or scholastic interests. Sam and several of her friends and relatives have positive changes in the works, leading to a bittersweet season of flux. The end is very satisfying, with all loose ends tied up. I am absolutely looking forward to the next one in the series, and highly recommend Killer Words!

This is book #7 in the Bookshop Mysteries by V M Burns. I was introduced to Samantha Washington in book #1. Unfortunately I have not been able to read the in between novels but that definitely didn’t spoil reading book #7. Where there a few characters I didn’t know, sure, but it didn’t hurt or change the story one bit.

Samantha owns a mystery bookstore and is an aspiring author. That alone makes for a delightful story, but there’s more. Nana Jo is character all her own and makes for laugh out loud moments. There is also a great cast of characters that I know run through each and every book.

Someone’s been murdered and Detective “Stinky” Pitts has been charged with the murder. Now Stinky Pitts may be a lot of things, but a murderer he is not. While Sam, Nana Jo and her geriatric group of sleuths look to prove Stinky’s innocence and solve the murder, there are plenty of suspects. Can they figure out who the murderer is before they become victims?

VM Burns writes a wonderfully entertaining story that now only has you trying to figure out whodunit but also has you laughing out loud at some of the amazing characters and their antics. When I pick up one of these books, I always feel like I’m returning to old friends. There’s something very comforting and happy in reading V M Burns books.

Thank you #netgalley, #kensingtonpublishing and #VMBurns for sending me this great story.

This is the 7th release in this charming series "Mystery Bookshop" by cozy author V.M. Burns. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.

I have enjoyed this series from the beginning. I love the charcters, the well crafted sleuth and the charming dogs.
This is a series I highly recommend for your reading enjoyment. This can be read as a stand alone however the charcters and mysteries are so wonderful any reader will enjoy starting at the beginning of the series.

We return to North Harbor Michigan with Sam and her Grandmother Nana Jo . Nana is a fun charcter in this series. This time Nana is off to the casino with her friends where she witnesses a former student and officer as well as a long time nemesis of Sam get into a brutal fight. After the fight when the victim is found dead he is arrested and although he has given her family endless trouble in the past Sam is determined to solve this murder and prove him innocent. This may prove difficult for our intrepid investigator as their relationship is acrimonious at best.

I enjoyed the sleuth that kept me guessing. I like Nana and all the supporting charcters. This was a fun addition to the series.

Sam and Nana Jo solve another mystery! When a local cop is accused of murder, the ladies and their friends and family jump into action to make sure an innocent man doesn’t go down for a crime he didn’t commit.

I really liked this book! It’s my first read in this series and by this author. I had no trouble jumping into the series without reading previous books. The characters are down-to-earth, likeable and realistic. The prose is easy to read.

The main story is light and fun. The characters actively investigate rather than stumbling on evidence by being in the right place at the right time to make connections and it was fun to see how all the different characters played their parts then came together to share information and solve the crime.

The author also includes large portions of the main character’s book-in-progress (also a mystery, so if you like historical mystery, you’re in for a treat with this twofer!

All in all, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it along with the series!

Say what you will about Detective Brad “Stinky” Pitt but don’t call him a murderer, at least not in front of Nana Jo. Detective Pitt may have no respect for the abilities of Samantha (Sam) Washington and the Shady Acres sleuths. Should we be worried that Nana Jo thinks that to relieve Sam’s boredom we “just need another murder…” Such a feisty and funny grandma. Nany Jo is but one in a great cast of characters, the type you would want to hang out with in addition to level-headed Sam. Another enjoyable aspect to Ms. Burns’ books is that there is a historical mystery inside the Cozy mystery, making it a two-fer! I found this to be an enjoyable read with a casino, canoodling, possible cop-related corruption, and maybe some commitments. There were several red herrings as every good cozy needs, as well as mention of apple pie tartlets.

Sam, Nana Jo, and the intrepid sleuths of the Shady Acres Retirement Village find themselves in the most unexpected position of helping the yucky Detective Stinky Pitts when he is accused of the murder of John Cloverton. Sure, Pitts socked Cloverton, who was even more awful that Pitts has been to the women, but Nana Jo is convinced he isn't a murderer. You know how that cozy goes- there are multiple suspects and some good red herrings. What makes this series, and this installment, even more fun, is the embedded historical mystery Sam has been writing- and now it's going to be published! Yay! I like this series for the women (who are a hoot at times but never over the top) and the twisty but not too complicated cases. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read for fans.

Number seven in the series does not disappoint, and is my favourite in the series!
The main character is also a writer, so there is a bonus in that there are two mysteries to solve within the book. This is not a distraction from the main story, but a compliment.
The regular cast of characters are so endearing and I love to read about them! I really enjoy the relationship between Sam and Nana Jo. As well, I enjoy Nana Jo’s friends, who are written as smart, full of life and entertaining.
This latest offering has the usual cast of characters and what a treat it is to immerse myself in this story.
The mysteries are well written and kept me guessing!
I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I won a Goodreads copy of this. While I think this is the 7th book in the series, it's the third one I've read.

There's so much to recommend this series, but with the third title I've read, I've determined it's not the series for me. Allow me to tell you details that might help you determine if it's for you.

Dogs: The main character, Sam/Samantha, has poodles, Snickers and Oreo.

The author is a Black woman writing cozy mysteries. Another author you might consider is Olivia Matthews. I'd also recommend the Crime Writers of Color podcast and website, where I've discovered a lot of wonderful authors and books.

Michigan setting! North Harbor. The books are set close to Indiana and Illinois as well. The town has both affluence poverty.

Spirited sidekicks. Samantha's grandmother and her grandmother's friends are always there to lend a hand, make a quip, or head to the casino. Across the board, the recurring characters enliven the story.

Bookstore setting: Samatha owns a bookstore that specializes in mysteries. Each book has mentions/recommendation for mysteries.

Books within books, adding a British flavor, and a historical setting. Samantha writes mysteries, and so each book contains another novel featuring an uppercrust British family on the eve of WWII. A lot of real historical figures make appearances.

As to why the series is not for me, but I still think a lot of people will love it, it comes down to small things that are personal preference. The book-in-a-book was never my fave, and each book reinforces that. The second book by necessity is always going to be a little too spare, a little told in shorthand for my liking. I felt the second book in the series was a little slut-shame-y/victim blame-y, and a character -- the accused in this book -- is consistently called a bullying nickname from his childhood by an ex-teacher. The mystery often seems too easy or based on Samantha missing vital clues/connections.

I'm sorry the chemistry never kicked in for me, but 3 books feels like enough material to decide. I do hope that if the aforementioned elements work for you, that you give the series a chance. If you've read the series up until now and enjoyed it, this entry should be another success and actually is kinder to Bradley Pitt than the previous installments, Sam's romance reaches a new milestone, money changes hands!

Book 7 in the series.

This book made me want to go back and read all of the previous books in the series. I binge read them all, before I went back and restarted this one. It could be a stand alone, but for me, I just needed to read about what came before.

I love the family/found family parts of this series, the characters are mostly fun and likeable. Nana Jo and her group of friends never fails to make me laugh. The main storyline moves pretty quickly and the wrap up was satisfying.

The one big thing that I don't particularly enjoy about this series is the "story within the story." I get that Sam is an author as well as a book store owner (though how she has time to run a business, write books, and solve murders, I do not know!) but I admit that I skimmed through the parts of Sam's writing. It just annoyed me more than moved the main plot forward.

All in all, I enjoyed the series and hope there are many more.

Another Good Bookshop Book

I always enjoy this series. I love the
family bonds and the fun, over the top supporting characters. To me, the killer was pretty obvious. But, in cozies, that's ok.
