This is a stand-alone novel in "The Westbrooks: Broken Hearts" series.

Loki
I’m a highly trained special operative tasked with taking down the East Coast’s most dangerous man—my father.

She’s a bubbly, timid, overly inquisitive romance author with an aversion to true love. And she’s now under my protection.

As our worlds collide, we’re forced into hiding while I piece together who’s chasing us. Sitting idly in a one-room cabin with Sloane Camden has me catching feelings I have no business having.

When I finally give in to temptation, the sparks we've been dancing around engulf us in flames.

Will our time together be enough to tear down her walls? Or will old insecurities have her running before we even begin?

Sloane
I write romance; I don’t live it.

As far as I’m concerned, happily ever after is best left in storybooks where they can’t hurt you.

But spending time alone with the insufferable Loki Kane has me questioning all I thought I knew.

Long days turn into hot nights, and before long, the line between fiction and reality becomes blurred.

He has a way of making me see the light even in the darkest of days. For the first time in my life, I’m wondering, what if?

When the walls of his past close in, will I be strong enough to fight for us? Or will I run before he can leave me too?

Hi, I’m Avery!

I write steamy small towns with big found families—the kind of romances that make your heart race and your soul sigh.

My books, like The Westbrooks, Single Dad Hotline, and Happiness Ever After series, are filled with swoon-worthy heroes, messy but lovable heroines, and small towns you’ll want to call home.

When I'm not writing, I live in joyful chaos with my husband and four kids. You can usually find me cheering on the sidelines at their sporting events, sneaking in writing sprints, or slipping into coffee shops for my daily caffeine fix.

This is book 4 of “Broken Hearts” series and Loki (aka “Chaser”) & Sloane (aka “Runner”) story. Loki is part of the Westbrook brotherhood (a bunch of guys that became part of the Westbrook Family – specifically taken in by the Matriarch Sylvie. He and his 2 friends (Seth & Ash) are on the hunt to destroy some bad dudes who are out to hurt their family. Unlike the previous story with Easton that I read, Loki’s is full of danger & suspense which I liked.

Sloane is the youngest sister of Emory (heroine in “Saving his Heart” who is married to Preston Westbrook). She writes Romances and some of the funniest moments is when she asks the guys questions for “research” and her sex tank! 😁

I should mention that I first read Easton’s story (“One little Mistake”) before reading this one so Loki’s story is happening at the same time as Easton’s in terms of time-wise. The 3 other brother’s (Trevor, Peyton & Dex) story already happened when this one starts but I was confused about Seth’s story because in one instance when Sloane makes a mention about the woman he has at home & whom he is playing “Striptease”, it seemed that he had already met Ari (heroine in Seth’s story) but there was no mention of her again and it didn’t seem likely. Anyhoo, I will not be reading Seth’s or Dex’s story as both are single dads by OW and that is just not my cup of tea. Trevor & Preston’s on the other hand is next for me. (Yeah, I’m going backwards. Lol).

What I liked about this one is that there are no OW/OM drama and nor is Loki a manwhore or have an ex in the past which made it enjoyable. Sloane too, while she is not a virgin, has had only one BF and he turned out to be a bad dude but not much is mentioned there which was okay by me because she was not thinking or obsessing about him. Instead, the focus was in developing the relationship & bond with these two and with all the “brothers”.

We do finally have a little more info on what happened to Ash in Loki’s story which confused me because in Easton’s story, it seemed he was attacked saving Easton’s ex GF sister who he was trying to protect and Easton felt guilty about it, but that is not what happened here in this story! So I'm confused on that - as well as who had infiltrated their apartment and wrote that stuff on the wall about Sloane. It was as if author forgot all about it & I hate things left open-ended like that.

Anyway, I am looking forward to Ash’s story. He is a great & carrying character but he has had something awful happened to him both physically & mentally (rape being one of them?) that has destroyed his spirit. I hope we get his story next as well as Halton's & Colton. Those other 2 are going to be a hoot!

This story, as well as the others, has humor which I love. The text chain dialogues in particular are a hoot! Overall, I liked this one. It was enjoyable and I am looking forward to reading the other’s story but one thing that I didn’t like was the fact that heroine was too insecure and didn’t get a spine until close to the end. However, she was spunky & funny and very loyal and that erased her negativity of lack of self-esteem. I loved how she made the Hero & all the brothers uncomfortable with her questions & her gun trotting ways! 😝

Safety:

No OM/OW drama or sex scenes.
No mentions of OW for Hero. Slight mention of OM for heroine in terms of a past ex hurting her.
No Manwhore Hero. No virgin heroine.
Sweet HEA and author provides 5 yrs later for Loki/Sloane and the other brother’s lives who already had their story but you have to download & request it.

“Ugh, social media,” she groans. “If I had known how many hats I would have to wear when I first started publishing, I may have chosen a different career. Social media is the worst, but it’s a necessary evil if I want to sell books.”

“What’s so bad about it?”

Sighing, she reaches up and tightens her ponytail. “I’m forced to put myself out there daily. I have to open myself up to my readers, who, thankfully, are amazing. But, putting yourself out there also opens you up for judgment. People can be cruel when sitting safely behind their computer screens.”

“How so?” The thought of anyone disrespecting her has my hands itching to fight.

“Oh, Loki. I could go on for hours about this. Basically, you’ll always have the people you can never please. Unfortunately, most of the time, they’re also the loudest. They like to let everyone know you’re not perfect. They thrive off calling out every mistake you make and trying to cancel you. They enjoy ripping you apart personally. It’s pretty rough on the ego,” she admits.

“Then why do it?”

“Because for every douche canoe, there’s a reader who emails to tell me my story got them through something or that they connected in a way that moved them to tears. Luckily, the assholes of the world are far and few between, but knowingly putting yourself on the chopping block for them is a hard pill to handle sometimes. Then, you get the dick pics.”

Favorite line:

From GG (Grandmother) - “Just remember, life is a marathon, not a sprint. Marathons take training, practice, and hard work, but the reward is always worth the pain”.
---

Who gave me a sponge bath?” he asks, crossing his arms like we will be here for a while.
Good Lord, I wish it were me!

“Ah, well, I did your upper body,” I say evasively.

“And what about my lower body, Red? Who sponged that?” His voice is low and sexy as hell.
Placing my hands on my hips, I narrow my eyes before answering. Loki thinks this is embarrassing for me, but he has no idea I’m about to flip his house of cards.

“Well, Ems and I started, but you kept mumbling about Red, and your lower half kept, er, waking up.”

Now it’s his turn to flush. Straightening his body, he responds, “As you said, it’s biology.”

“Yup, biology.” I mimic his stance. “That’s why we had to call in Preston.”

“That … Wait, are you saying Preston gave me a sponge bath?” His face distorts as he reconciles what he thought I was going to say and what really happened.

Crossing my arms and rocking back on my heels, I laugh. “Yup. I can’t say he was any happier about it than you look right now.”

“Preston washed my junk.”

“Dexter too.”

“What?”

I’m laughing so hard now tears are threatening. I know Loki has been friends with Dex, Trevor, and Preston since they were boys, but this goes above and beyond.

“Preston only agreed because Emory threatened to withhold sex. Then he told all the guys they would have to take turns. Dex drew the short straw the second time. Literally, they all drew straws. Ashton was up next, but then you woke up.”

“I don’t know what to say to that.”

Leaning in, I can’t help the insane urge to tease him. “Want to know if you got a boner with them?”

“Jesus Christ. No. No, I don’t,” he growls, and I swear, my clit responds.

Pushing away from the vanity, he turns to the door.

“No shower?” I laugh.

“Let’s not talk for a few minutes, okay?”

---
Loki: Please tell me Sloane is joking. You assholes did not give me a sponge bath.
Preston: Don’t worry, Lok. I was gentle.
Dexter: The worst five minutes of my life.
Ashton: Thank fuck you woke up.
Trevor: Well, dipshit, if you didn’t have a thing for your babysitter, they wouldn’t have had to do it.
Loki: I wasn’t coherent.
Preston: Even drugged out of your mind, you seem to have a thing for my little sister.
Loki: Sister-in-law.
Dexter: Fuck, yes! MSL!

---

“Hey, guys,” Preston says happily as he waltzes into the room. “Loki, man, it’s so good to see you standing up.” He leans in for a hug and jumps back about ten feet. “Jesus Christ. Did she get to you, too?” Preston looks from me to Loki’s groin and back again. “What did you ask him, sis? Please tell me you embarrassed this fucker.”

“Ugh, I didn’t ask him anything. I’ll let you guys hang out. I’m going to shower. I don’t want to bother Loki while he’s sleeping.”

---

“Do my pajamas bother you, Loki?” Gah, flirting with him shouldn’t be so easy.

“Bother isn’t the right word, Red. But if you keep wearing shit like that, you’re likely to end up impaled on my dick without our knowledge. You tend to, um, squirm in your sleep. If I hadn’t woken up this morning, wandering hands could have led us down a very naughty path.”

Days after finishing Loki and Sloane’s story and I still find myself reliving my favorite scenes. This is the type of book you crave as a reader, but is a truly rare find! Avery Maxwell has built an amazing cast of characters and a brilliant storyline with this series! Hold on to your seat for a wild ride filled with heart pounding suspense and action, true and relatable emotions, and a love that will give you all the feels. Sigh.... Loki is one of those hot sexy alpha heroes with a squishy marshmallow hidden heart that we all dream will rescue us. Truth right?! And Sloane, well this super quirky, shy heroine will have you in stitches with her antics, but also silently cheering as she finally comes into her own. Hands down one of my favorite reads ever! Highly recommend you meet this wonderful world Avery has created!

Romancing his Heart
Loki and Sloane
A forced proximity romance.
Overall not a bad book, but I struggled with some things.

Loki. Yes that is his real name, we’re not given any info on why or how. Before this book, he’s been a real mystery. We learn about his background, and some of what he’s been doing behind the scenes to keep his chosen family safe. And what still needs to be done.
Sloane. We met her briefly in the last book, her sister’s story. The baby of her family. Her three older sisters stepped in to raise her when her mother left them. With an absent, alcoholic father, the girls formed a tight knit group. But she always felt like she didn’t belong. Didn’t fit with them.
Loki’s latest mission has left him severely injured and with short term amnesia. He’s been missing for weeks, his office has declared him AWOL. He knows enough to hide himself and the route he’s taking. Somehow he finds his way back to his apartment. His apartment that is now home to a very stubborn redhead that refuses to leave his side.
Sloane is an author. She writes romances. Very hot, sexy romances. She’s been crisscrossing across the country in search of inspiration for her next book. But her latest breakup, has freaked her out enough to seek out her oldest sister. She rents an apartment in the same building. Far enough away, but still close enough if she needs her sister. Only to come home one night to a man passed out on her bed. A man everyone has been searching night and day to find.
I loved Loki. He was so protective of those he called family. He went out of his way, sacrificing his own happiness to keep everyone safe. He knew he was no good for Sloane, and fought his attraction for her. But once he gave in, he was all in with her. He was good for Sloane, helped her see what she was capable of. Pushed her out of her comfort zone.
I really struggled with Sloane. She was young, ditzy and naive. So self centered. She had her routines and nothing, not even being on the run would she deviate from them. She tried to help, but was more concerned with her own needs, and things that she came across as whiny and demanding. And wondered why no one would take her seriously.
I loved this chosen family. They were loyal, loving, supportive and very protective.
Their text threads were hilarious.
Dex and his romantic grand gestures were great.
I’ve noticed after reading the four books in this series, that this author writes great love stories. Getting the couple together, hot sex scenes, and finding that happy ending. Great.
What I personally found lacking in these stories were the details. Ages, descriptions. This book left so many things hanging it felt half finished. Who broke into the apartment? What happened to the bad guy? What happened in her last relationship that had her afraid of the dark and having nightmares? Why couldn’t she be alone? There was mention of some of these, but no details. It was all off page. She made such a big deal out setting these up, and just left them dangling. I finished the book and I was frustrated.
It wasn’t a bad story, I enjoyed the story. Just not my favorite.
Multiple points of view.
No cheating.
HEA.
A bonus epilogue that you can download shows you the four couples five years down the road.

Romancing his heart. Love, love, love this series. All the books have been great and this book is no exception. The characters are so likable. Loki, who’s been working in the shadows protecting his family and friends is suddenly home but injured and had lost chunks of his memory. Sloan, Emory’s sister had been renting his apartment whilst he’d been away and nurses him whilst he’s recovering. There is immediate attraction between the two but Loki feels the need to protect Sloane and she is a ’runner’. She never stays in a relationship long, as she has a fear of people leaving her from a dysfunctional upbringing. The 2 have to go into hiding together to stay safe, for months, will they be able to resist each other and stay safe. Already can’t wait for the next book.

This book was perfection, I absolutely loved it. I have been waiting for Loki's story since book 3 and it was worth the wait. Sloane is a quirky romance writer who asks and says whatever is on her mind. Loki, on the other hand, is quiet and the typical secret spy type. When life forces them into hiding together in a one bedroom cabin their connection begins to spark. Sloane doesn't believe she is deserving of happily ever after and Loki never thought he would find someone to fit that role. Beautifully written this story has all the makings of a great suspense romance. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time wondering what twists and turns the characters were going to take. This is one of those stories that I will be re-reading because I loved it so much.

A romance author and a secret agent, what isn’t to love about this story?

Loki finds himself injured and Sloane finds herself taking care of them. I absolutely loved the chemistry between the two of them. I loved that they both helped each other, they made each other absolutely crazy and they also became each other’s support system throughout the story.

There are twists and turns throughout that had me on the edge of my seat. The suspense completely sucked me in. There were laughs in text exchanges between the group of friends and I was loving every moment of those. Plus the steam and passion between Loki and Sloane was off the charts!

This is the fourth book in a series and can be read as a complete standalone. This is the first one I’ve read and didn’t feel lost with the overall story, but definitely missed out on getting to know this amazing group of characters.

If you’re looking for a romantic suspense this is one to check out.

I have absolutely LOVED this series and I am gutted it’s over!!!! However, I did message the author and found out that the brothers are coming which thrilled me to no end!!

This book was my favorite of the 4! It was angsty as hell at the end and I was on the edge of my seat!!!

This series is interconnected and made for some fantastic reading!!! I laughed, I cried and I literally lost my shit!!!

I love finding new authors and Avery Maxwell will be a must read from here on out!!!

I can't get enough of this series from Avery! I loved it! I have been waiting for Loki's story after that preview at Preston's book. Loki and Sloane's story did not disappoint. I don't know how Avery did it, but she just wrote his story amazingly. It's different from the rest of the books, but it's still connected. I loved that all the previous characters made appearances and played a big role in their story. They made it really fun.

Romancing His Heart is the fourth book in the Broken Hearts series by Avery Maxwell. I believe it's the final book in the series, but we are going to get a spin-off about Preston's brothers. Ashton better be the one who is going to get a book first. The poor man went through a lot of things in this book and I want him to get a happy ending and heal from all the bad stuff. I also hope that we will see more of the guys from this series.

I loved Saving His Heart so much that it was no question whether or not I was going to read this one. Romancing His Heart wasn't as good, but it still had some good parts that made the book worth reading. My main issue with the book was Sloane. She had a lot of hang up and I am not sure where they came from. She had low self-esteem and always felt like she didn't belong which wasn't something that her sister felt, so it seemed a little off. Loki was an a-hole too, but at least half the time his actions were justified.

The last third of the book had some very memorable moments and some of the character growth I wanted to see. I was very proud of Sloane. She rocked and came a lot of steps closer to the person I wanted to see her become.

Having read 2/4 books of the series I would say that you should definitely give it a try ( or least the last 2 books). Dex is consistently amazing though and I will go back and read his book, so I'd recommend you do the same.

So this book is the fourth book in the series. The Broken Hears series. I didn’t read the rest of the series and I wasn’t too lost. I would have liked to have read the other books first because I know I was missing certain pieces of the story. I’d start at book one so you get the gist of the whole reason they are on this mission.
Besides that the book was great. The characters were funny. They were great together. Sloane always felt like she was the one that didn’t count. The one the people always left behind. The one that amounted to nothing. Until she meets Loki and is thrust into a family where everyone looks out for each other and loves each other. She’s dealing with coming to terms with people really liking her loving the person she is and loving what she had to offer. And Loki finally found a reason to calm down and settle for once.
The story is great. The characters are fun. The surrounding characters from the other books are fun too. It’ll make you want to read those books too!
Enjoy!

Okay

First off, can I just say, I'm fed up with author's writing women as complete klutzes particularly in the presence of a good looking man. If we could just stop having them tripping over their own feet in awe, that would be great.
Review time. Truthfully, I found both characters annoying (again), found myself skimming some scenes especially the sex just so I could get to the culmination of the story after 4 books. And even that was a bit of a let down. 1 page of action and no resolution. Definitely not my favourite series.

This whole series had A LOT going on. Each book had this intense through line culminating in this finale. It wasn't worth it for me. I found the focus to be off, things left unexplained ( in every book), I felt like I needed ADHD to follow along as it was scattered. Didn't help that I didnt love the MCs. I just didn't care about them as much as the others. Perhaps because this book is all about the suspense, fighting, spy stuff that I didn't enjoy at all. It was in the way of the romance for me. I read the whole series because I did like the group as a whole and the idea of found family.

[1.75 star] book was generally okay overall. but the story revolves around the hero i feel and the background or story about the heroine gets a little overshadowed. like why is the heroine afraid of sleeping alone? the heroine seems to be running from a stalker or an ex but it doesn't seem like it in the end, so i'm a little confused somehow. i think the heroine could have been portrayed better than it was.

"So fucking, dangerous."

Loki and Sloan-they're both dangerous in their own way.

He lost his parents, he's been fighting his "sperm donor," and working to keep the only family has safe since he was 15 years old. He chose it. He lived it. And he gave up on ever having love in his life. It's not safe. Anyone close would be a liability.

But GG and her tarot cards had different plans. And along comes Sloane.

She writes romance novels, never stops asking questions, doesn't trust anyone and Loki might be her undoing. That is if they both live.

So...romance author, secret ops hot guy, misunderstandings, a cabin in the woods, coffee cake, lingerie and commando, explosions, hospitals, gun shots, GG the tarot card reading grandma, men in gray sweatpants, and a family full of chaos but built on the best kind of love and loyalty. Oh, and blue balls (never forget the blue balls!).

There's too much to tell you and I don't want to tell you any of it. I want you to experience it yourself when you read this whole series!

Family... my favorite reads are series that have characters that are a family by choice. I first stumbled on Trevor and Jules story and fell in love with the family Avery has created. I immediately went to Dex's book and started the series from the beginning. Loki and Sloane's story did not disappoint. Loki has been pulling strings in all the previous books and I was so excited to finally hear his story and for him to find his HEA. If you've haven't read the other books in this series, start at the beginning (you can thank me later). So many authors write H as bullies or jerks but not Avery. Her men are GOOD men. A romance doesn't have to have a womanizer, bully or jerk H to be reformed by the h in order to be a romance and Avery proves that with every single book. Her men (and women) are good and they find that they can be even better.... together.

“I want to marry you, Red. I want to love you for the rest of my days, and I want to be the one to chase away your fears. I want to protect you, learn from you, encourage you, and watch you fly. I want to be your partner, Sloane. In life, in love, and everything in between. I love you more than I ever thought possible.”

Book 4 of The Westbrooks hit ALL THE FEELS! I never wanted this series to be over, and I’m so glad I have the other Westbrook brothers to read. Lexi and Easton’s story is going to be 🔥🔥🔥

Loki & Sloane had a rough go but they got their much deserved HEA! This romantic suspense book kept me at the edge of my seat and I read it in one sitting 🤣 I couldn’t stop reading!

Read if you enjoy:
• Broken MMC
• Suspense Romance
• Found Family
• Age Gap
• Forced Proximity

Loki  is a special agent and on a mission he has been leaving clues for his family/friends.
Sloane has been subletting his apartment through her sister Emory and her husband Preston and has been helping everyone solve the clues.
She's a romance writer and often asks them all questions (which I loved, and found funny)
He's not used to accepting help she's not used to others relying on her.
Another great story.

I knew it was going to be intense

From seeing Loki in the other stories, I knew it was going to be intense but it didn't stop there. The surprises just kept coming. I had Seth all wrong but glad we learned more about him. Enjoyed the large invasive family and this series.

This was an amazing story! This is the fourth book in the Broken Hearts series and is the story of Loki and Sloane. Loki has a job that is dangerous while Sloane is a romance author. Because of Loki’s job they are force to leave their family and friends and live in a cabin together. There are funny moments and there serious moments between the two of them in the cabin and out of the cabin. (Especially when it comes to Sloane’s writing box.) Loki and Sloane’s relationship is great through out the book. They are there for each other and help each other deal with not only the situation they are in but also with life. Overall this a great book and good way to end this series.

Steamy, Sexy, Smart, and So Much Fun!

Avery Maxwell's Romancing His Heart, Broken Hearts #4, is by far the best thus far!

Loki and Sloane are a couple facing their own demons in this forced proximity romance; that is steamy, sexy, smart, and so much fun, with all the sweet, funny goodness and feels that we have come to expect from this series.

"Family is what you make it, and I am making you mine. Got it?"

The theme of chosen family is reoccurring throughout the series and is central to this story as both Loki and Sloane learn to allow themselves to accept the embrace of their family choice while reluctantly, unavoidably falling in love with each other against a backdrop of intrigue and mystery.

This story can be read as a stand-alone; however, readers will enjoy it more with the other stories' foundation, the series launched with Cross My Heart, Broken Hearts # 1.

This is the fourth and final book in the author’s Broken Hearts series. There are some contemporary romance series where the characters from one book fall by the wayside and barely make an appearance in the next books. But this series isn’t one of them. This series is built around four now thirty-year-old men, Dex, Trevor, Preston and Loki who have been BFFs since grade school, finding love. Each is an important character in the other’s books. As they find love their significant others and families are important secondary characters as well as they welcome the latest female protagonist into their family of the heart. So, while this book can absolutely be read as a standalone, if you’re like me you’ll enjoy this book and this series more if you read them in order.
This is the story of super spook Loki Kane a top agent for the SIA a super-secret government agency (sort of like a domestic CIA) whose purpose is to root out and end organized crime, and Sloane Camden a successful romance writer known for her super sexy scenes, and youngest sister of Doctor Emory Camden-Westcott the female protagonist of the last book Saving His Heart. I’ve been wondering since the first book in this series why Loki’s parents would name him after the Norse god of mischief, but I have to admit it’s a pretty cool name. Loki is the illegitimate son of mobster Antonio Black who eventually killed his mother and his stepfather when Loki was fifteen years old. Loki then became the ward of the Westbrooks and treated like one of their sons. At some point Sylvie Westbrook and her late husband sort of adopted Dexter, Trevor and Loki making them all brothers of the heart. When he turned eighteen, Loki who has an exceptionally high I.Q. joined the SIA and dedicated his life to bringing down his father, half-brothers and their criminal empire. Loki’s father or sperm donor was also responsible for the death of Trevor’s mother. To do so he enlisted the hacking skills of Ashton Westbook the youngest of the five Westbrook brothers a tech wizard and a major secondary character in this story. While Loki has remained an important part of his friends lives he has also more or less existed on the outside of their tight circle to protect them from those he hunts to avoid making them collateral damage of his job.
As this story opens Loki whom his friends have been searching for for months returns. But he is seriously injured from an explosion on his last mission which has left him with big gaps in his memory. Since Sloane (who is now Preston’s sister-in-law) has been subletting his apartment she somehow ends up being his primary caregiver while he recovers. It’s discovered that Sloane has become a target of those mobsters Loki has been attempting to bring down. So Sloane reluctantly agrees to go into hiding with Loki at his one room cabin in the Blue Mountains until Ashton and Seth have figured out who is after her and the danger has past. This leads to the reason behind this close proximity trope.
Sloane is a runner with serious abandonment rooted self-esteem issues. Her mother like her three half-sister’s mothers abandon her before she was old enough to remember anything about her. Her father Liam Camden was an abusive alcoholic who left raising his three youngest daughters to Emory the eldest of them. Emory in Sloane’s mind sort of abandoned her too when she went off to college and medical school even though she continued to financially and emotionally support and protect her younger sisters as best she could. So Sloane left home as soon as she was able to avoid also being abandoned by her other two older sisters Eli and Tilly. Her first and only love Jackson also abandoned her after trying to sexually assault her. So, Sloane makes it a rule to run from relationships before the other person can leave her. Being the youngest of her siblings her older sisters took care of her leaving her feeling like she can’t take care of herself. She knows this doesn’t make sense because she left home at eighteen to travel the country and has supported herself as a fairly successful self-published romance author ever since. But reality doesn’t always protect us from our personal demons as Sloane acknowledges.
Along with the IMHO unlikely romance between Loki and Sloane, this book has an aura of mystery and danger as Loki and his buddies Seth and Ashton try to identify who is after them and put an end to them. Along the way Loki discovers he and his half-brother Luca whom he believed was an enemy are working towards the same ends. This was a pretty good story although at times towards the end it got confusing and for me didn’t always make sense. Taking down his dirty partner and the remaining mobsters felt rushed, not to mention a bit unbelievable even for a contemporary romance. And as usual when they weren’t complaining about how much sex their wives wanted after reading Sloane’s books (like that would ever happen in real life) the guys (too often in this series for my tastes) act more like immature goofballs than the supremely successful businessmen, husbands and fathers they are. Since this is the last book in this series leading into the Westbrook brother series the author doesn’t spend as much time loading the backend with teasers for her next book as she did in the previous books. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t continue to tease a future romances for Easton Westbrook and Lexi, and single dad Seth with a yet unidentified love interest. She leaves a dark cloud hanging over Ashton Westbrook’s future. There is a nice extended epilogue available for download that gives us a peek five years into the future at the lives of our four friends and their families

Loki and Sloane not as good as I built up in my head!

So I was stoked for super mysterious, alpha spy extraordinaires book! But it just wasn't as alpha as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, Loki is hot and this book was good,I had just built him up in my head as more. If that makes sense. Sloane was an ok character, I just didn't get why she was such a runner? I mean she was the baby everyone took care of, their dad was an alcoholic, mom passes but she has her sisters, they were always there for each other. So why the running? I just didn't understand! Carryover characters so read in order! MSL wasn't as good as the other books, but still decent read! Read books to understand abbreviations! Free with K. U.
