I was pleased to meet the author, Mynk Baylor, at the Kenosha, Wisconsin Book Festival. Her book covers grabbed my attention; they are so pretty. I asked the author if her books were okay for kids to read, and she assured me they were. Books one and two were available, and of course, I bought both. Ms. Baylor signed the two books to my granddaughters, whom I will surprise them with as they visit me.

Book one is appropriate for kids. The main characters are Christina, Micah, and Phelix. Without giving the story away, it’s a typical story of the first day of high school as a freshman. That nervousness of not knowing anyone, not knowing where your locker or classrooms are, trying not to be noticeable. Of course, can school ever occur without a bully in the picture? Yes, a bully needs the spotlight over jealousy. Let’s not forget about the bad guy.

I enjoyed this book. It brought me back to my high school days when the unknown was scary, making friends are special, dealing with bullying is a nightmare, and yet true friends shine through no matter what others may think of them for standing up for the new person.

It is a precious story that is a fast read and introduces the reader to book two with another new student.

READ THIS BOOK IF…
-You love angels.
-You enjoy clean fantasy YA with a side of romance.
-You like swoony sports romance.
-You love the found family trope.
And you aren't easily triggered.

I loved it —it’s not the sweet read I was expecting, but it’s a kind description of a girl (who is dealing with her own threats) and the people who support her no matter what.
