Read the card." I insist. She finds the card and begins to read it to herself. "Read it out loud." I insist again. Her eyes snap up to me and I correct myself. "Please." Her eyes soften and return to the card. "I love you." She turns the card over and then looks back at me. "Go to the next one." "I don't deserve you." Her head leans to the side, questioning where I'm going with this. I nod to the next bouquet. "No one does." Her eyebrows squint together but she walks to the next bouquet. "But I will fight anyone who gets in between us." Her eyebrows hike up at that one. "Last one." I encourage her to move to the next one. "Even you." She gasps and her eyes lock with mine. The shock in her eyes does nothing for me. I meant every word of it and I take none of it back. "I mean it EJ. I want you to be clear about how serious I am about you. I have no pride left when it comes to you.
"Pride is a heavy burden." This is one of my favorite quotes from this book because it sums up the theme perfectly. It is heartbreaking to think of all that could have been if not for pride. Emory and Kace have a past; serious history that I was dying to have unpacked. It is raw and emotional and things ended badly. As hard as they tried, they were never able to let go. Pride kept them apart, but they are reunited when Emory is called to plan Kace's brothers wedding. Sloane had a style that fully immerses you in the characters. I felt an unexpected range of emotion while reading this. Kyle and Kurt are Kace's brothers and also have their own stories, which I highly recommend!
Emotion, humor, and a STEAM LEVEL THAT IS OFF THE CHARTS!,,
Wow! Kace is fire, a man who knows what he wants and sizzles as he goes after her... Emory James. I fell into this book within the first few pages which are packed with witty dialogue and an intense connection between the characters. I was on the edge of my seat rooting for these two and the sex was absolute perfection. What a story, I think it was my fav of the entire series because these two were dynamite and the pull between them never stopped. If you want heat & emotion this story has it nailed. I loved it and it is a five star must read hands down. 💙
Emmie gave poor Kace a run for his money almost to the very end. Kace was such a sweetheart. I was so happy when Emmie stopped running! She faced her doubts and talked to Alecia, woman to woman. I'm glad she and Kace got there, HEA. This is my third book by this author. She is definitely a one-click for me!
This was good the only issue I had while reading was the female lead (Emory aka Emmie) was immature. She was not being fair to Kace but I am glad that they got their HEA. Plus, Emory was correct about the other female's plans for Kace.
