I thought I was just getting one book, but 8 in 1 seemed unable to be finished. ALmost 800 pages with focus on marketing on social media. But the best think about Dummies books they are so easy to read straight to the point. So for me that have read so many others on the subject I could do a fast reading strategy on this book. Lots of good materila. I suggest using pen and markers to point to places and tools you will use in the future.
Described as "9 books in 1". The Cyber Social tools include Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, Twitter, and a few other lesser-known social websites. This book also makes the business case for using Social Media. A lot of useful info here for those doing online marketing of themselves or their businesses.
Jan knows her stuff! This all-in-one guide is up to date for 2013 and gives detailed info on how to use the major platforms. Her Watermelon Web company is highly professional and has been invaluable to me.
OK I want to tell you why I gave it 5 ✯. Most of the links and info are out of date. Remember, this is an all-in-one book. So these books, written over years, WOULD be out of date. There's no way to avoid that. With all technology, there comes a time when it gets out of date.
But there's some GREAT advice when it comes to telling about how to write blogs, what type of posts keep people interested (I needed to be told not to make all my SM posts about trying to pitch a sale or a product. Ask my followers questions, encourage them to post comments/respond, share photos) One thing I took big issue with is where it's saying something about getting customers organically. Well, that isn't how this works. People get large amounts of followers by spending the big bucks to bump/promote their business or pa to be on someone's site who has a HUGE following. There's also companies that ask for me to pay so I can be on their "up and coming" list! Yeah, I too thought those 'up and comers' were well-researched and vetted. NOPE, they just dished out the dough to be advertised as such on that platform.
So don't be dismayed about the length of this audiobook (I didn't mention I listened to this). You will get some good tips about and reminders about making sure to get your audience's attention by typing up the first couple lines of a blog well, using key words in a realistic way to get your news item to appear in a web search. But the one thing they don't mention (and probably because this happened after the books was written) is that Amazon now controls everything. It controls who gets on the first page of a web search, who's product gets shown on sidebars of the web, etc.
They do promote certain companies and I'm sure they're being reimbursed for it. It always makes me suspicious as to the quality of advice when the person giving the advice basically advertises a specific company.
Overall, I think this is a great book. I definitely recommend listening on audio. You can get stuff done by tuning out the parts that don't apply to your business (for me, these parts were the ones where they talked about paying for influencers, paying for promotions, paying for people to do social media . . . . anything that they recommended that needed to pay for. Also, I skipped over the basics, like learning how to sign up and post things on various SM sites.)

Somewhat overwhelming with the amount of information it had. Having a hard copy of a book like this is always a slight problem because it is likely to get out of date quickly but as an overview of the different methods of social media marketing, it was really helpful.
Given that this is about social media, this is honestly a book that should be read online with hyperlinked text. Having to retype URLS of suggested online analytical tools, etc. is a real pain. The photos also leave much to be desired; for example, a page explaining source code and examples of meta-data -- the screenshot of the page was so small as to be illegible. Nonetheless, the book is written in an accessible style and even the neophyte ought to be able to understand most of the basic ideas and terms...which is after all, the point of these "for dummies" books. The book also gives short shrift to some social media sits (Pinterest, Instagram) and spends more time on others (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter). given how quickly things change, one should always read the most recent edition first. Some of the website links of the 2015 edition are already out of date by feb. 2016.
The entire Facebook section got me super-excited about what I'd be able to do with my facebook business page. That is, until I found out that it was all outdated. You can do a lot of what the book talks about, but the instructions here unfortunately won't help anymore. Hooray for updated technology, but a big thumbs down for print that's gone out-of-date so quickly.
Even so, the book as a whole has some useful information.
This was a LOT. I mean, you know that going in since it's 9 books in 1, but still. It was a lot. I didn't need a lot of it since I'm only working on Facebook and Instagram, not the website or overall marketing, so once I got smart and tried to skim until I got to relevant information, it was better. Just be prepared for a firehose of information. I would be interested in delving deeper into the individual topics I was really interested in.
The bad: simple at times. But it is a "for Dummies" book.
The good: comprehensive, extensive and covering all topics I can think of related to social media advertising. Very interesting book to remember the basics.
It covers many media, from major social media to LinkedIn. Overall, the volume is quite large, but unfortunately there are many logical explanations and lack of specificity. There was no explanation of what data should be tracked.
800 pagina's over Social Media ... sowieso een turf om te lezen. Persoonlijk had ik meer right to point oplossingen willen vinden, maar de auteurs beperken zich tot wat gemeenplaatsen.
It's a book with good ideas. Some of the processes mentioned are self-explanatory, but overall it explains everything you need to know in an understandable way.
Not quite what I was hoping for. This was geared more to a small business starting up social media presence. Tons of helpful links that did help with what I was looking for.
Pathetic. Sad. Sometimes even completely false. The Instagram section got me banging my head against the wall that's how bad it is. Good choice for your grandma maybe
This is a great book. Highly recommend to anyone whether novice or experience in social media or marketing. The links and lists alone are worth the time to read.
