Sampson Angus McKay and his team are back to work: when a friend of Director Copper’s asks for their help in solving the murder of the beloved Annabelle Matheson, the team assumes this cold case will be a simple open and shut matter. As they investigate, they meet the inscrutable thief Charlotte Whitney, who has a secret just as checkered as her profession. With her reluctant help, the team learns that there is more to the murder than they initially expect, which leads them to William ‘The Redcap’ Finn. A Redcap: a thieving, malevolent, savage creature that finds pleasure in brutally murdering its victims and claiming blood as its trophy. Sam and his faithful team will face off against the notorious gangster that lives up to his colorful moniker in this second Sam McKay thriller by K.M. Hardy.
I'l be honest, just the title attracted me towards this book - "The Redcap". I was curious to know what's inside the book and when I started reading this book, It was beyond my imagination. I have become a huge fan of K.M. Hardy's whimsically inventive thought process!
I love reading Murder Mysteries more than anything. This story resolves around the murder of Annabelle Matheson and the investigation of the case by Sampson Angus McKay and his team. What I liked the most about this murder mystery is the investigation. As soon as they find some clues, the mystery became more interesting. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Overall, It's a captivating story and character development are always key indicators for me, which explains why I would much rather read a book than watch a movie. The author needs to be able to write the story in a way that attracts a reader and keeps the reader's attention and I must say that this book was written keeping in mind all the things that matters.
Great read and I'll certainly be waiting for more delights like this from this Author. This was a damn good book. In just a few hours, I consumed the whole book. I was really taken with this mystery book which consists of many twists and turns but overall it's just an excellent read. The characters in this book have so much depth and are well developed. K.M. Hardy has an imagination beyond brilliant. I'm going to be super honest here because this book DESERVES your attention.
This book is so fantastic I ate this up in a couple of days, finding every opportunity to read that I could... K.M. Hardy certainly has a talent for dragging you into her stories and having them take you over until you find out just what the hell is going on.
I had many theories as to what was going on and all of them were wrong. You know, I honestly think that writing a mystery story must be the most difficult of all, because the reader is your enemy. Most readers of mystery stories will analyse the information they're given, pull it apart, and try desperately to solve the mystery before the characters do - and yet, if they are successful, they feel disappointed. For an author to manage to pull out something both surprising and convincingly real at the end of all this, they have to have a talent for it.
K.M. Hardy knows how to stretch the mystery-factor to its limits, just short of over-the-top, delivering a crazy, yet still fathomable plot. She masters the art of description until the details begin materializing, and suddenly you're visualizing them whether you’re trying to or not.
I so enjoyed taking this ride with the author and am sorry the book had to end. This is very high praise coming from me, because I read constantly and I hardly ever have this feeling about anything. I can't wait to read more from this author!

What was the RedCap? Read the book to know the answer.
The cover of the book is aptly designed and the title is totally relevant to the content. The plot of the story is interesting, engaging and unpredictable. It is a perfect blend of mystery, thrill, crime and murder. The author has narrated all the scenes so well that it seems like watching a movie.
This is a very well written mystery that keeps one on the edge of the seat till the end. The reader becomes a part of the book while reading it. The book is full with minute details and references make it an amazing thriller mystery book to read.
Overall, an amazing read.
Rating - 4/5
I recommend this book to all specially to murder mystery lovers out there.
I haven’t slept since I bought the book. It has stayed with me since the first reading and gave me not only an amazing read but food for thought and insight into the ideas dealt within the book. From the opening scenes of this book, I was pulled in. I followed the mysterious yet enthralling story from start to finish with so much excitement.
This is one of the cleverest mysteries I have ever read. The plot is dazzling and its execution is flawless. I was drawn into the mystery so easily and, despite following through every page, despite all the subtle clues to decipher, this story - and its ending was too good. The style of this novel is insanely plot-driven and at the same time calm, quiet, methodical, and thoughtful.
There are so many thriller or mystery novelist who get the 5 star for the plot, but don't have a clue how to write a compelling ending but this book ended really well. I read the last several paragraphs a few times over - they were just that good.
For a book like this, if I try to write something about the story or the plot it will just ruin everything. So I won't. But I guarantee you it's a very different read with indepth character study and reasons why and what of the event that happened. If you enjoy reading mystery books, give this a try!
Honestly, I loved everything about this book. I really enjoyed this novel, I just wish it had been a little more longer because my heart wanted to read more and more. The beginning was really intriguing and it grasped my attention and so the ending was equally good.
The story resolves around the murder mystery of the beloved Annabelle Matheson. The mystery seems easy at first but complicated when Sampson Angus McKay and his team investigated deeply, they realised that it's not a simple open and shut case but a thrilling murder case which is not easy to solve. Sam's character is so amazing, I really liked him from the first very beginning. Later, Sam found some clues which may be helpful to solve the mystery or will it get more complicated?
I really feel that you should just dive into this book without knowing much about the plot. To be honest, I'm the usually the kind of reader who likes to know every little thing about what to expect in advance, but I've really learned to trust the authors writing and the storytelling so even I went into this book without knowing anything at all... and I was blown away by the story. The talent of writing is god gifted and this author is blessed with really good writing skills.
My Review: The Redcap is the second novel that I have read written by the author K.M. Hardy. Detective Sam was enjoying fishing with his son Oliver. When they returned to home, his wife Meredith told him to call his boss. Cooper told Sam that they have a special assignment for him and his team. Soon the team flew from Cleveland, Ohio to Chicago. Annabelle Matheson was found dead in her apartment with her throat slit. There is no suspect when the Chicago PD investigated the case. But Annabelle's children deserves answers on who has murdered their mother.
As Sam team began investigation, Charlotte an art thief also got involved into it. The way suspense is maintained throughout the story is brilliant. Author has written the characters very well. Especially Sam's character has intrigued me the most. The plot of the story is complex yet interesting. Cover photo of the book is nice and it's a worth reading story. The way different events are linked is impressive.
I started this knowing how much I enjoyed Scots Honor and when I got started with this I couldn't put it down. Page turner and an unforgettable ride. A hell of a ride. My mother read it at the same time as I did and she kept calling me throughout the book and telling me about it. We both enjoyed it.
The Redcap had me hooked from the first page. It’s suspenseful, atmospheric, and great fun! The characters are all easy to keep track of, and it gives off locked room mystery vibes at times.
Hardy crafts one hell of a mystery yarn but it's her characters that show she's more than just another mystery lover. She makes you understand their motivations, making them seem all too realistic. She can craft a character out of thin air that is as real to a reader as the book they are holding. She doesn't just tell about a character, she SHOWS us characters.
A word of advice to those planning to start The Redcap: don't begin the book at ten at night, and be sure to put your copy somewhere physically unreachable if you want to get any work done. Because you will not be able to put it down.
My Review: I love reading murder mystery novels as they are a great exercise to mind, we keep on guessing who the murderer is.
Recently I got my hands on the crime thriller The Redcap penned down by the author K.M. Hardy. Sam McKay and his team, Julie, Rivera, and Simon went to Chicago to solve the murder case of an 85 years old wealthy widow. Annabelle's children already got their inheritance when her husband died twenty years ago. So, her children were not the suspect. Her live-in housekeeper Elena was also not under the suspect.
As Sam and his team dive deeper into the case, they got their hands on the clues that were missed by the earlier investigation team. Story gets more and more captivating leaving me to turn pages after pages.
Hardy's stories are gripping and unputdownable. Looking forward to read more work by the author in future.
💌This is a kind of mystery book with a unique and interesting storyline. I am sure once you start reading this book, you won't be able to put down. A great combination of mystery and suspense that keeps the reader guessing right to the end.
💌First of all, I am really impressed with the title and the cover of the book The synopsis was so interesting and then I was just pulled in even further by the actual story! This one was full of suspense and I found myself feeling desperate to get back to it.
💌Really enjoyed reading this book. I do not read much of the mystery books but this book really made my day, I could not put this book down. I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next and even if try to assume, I always failed because K.M. hardy is so good with creating unique stories, this is my sedin book reading by her and I am aware of her writing style. I highly recommend this exciting murder mystery to everyone.
There are some incredible books written by extraordinary minds make you feel everything at the same time and once you finish them you feel speechless because no words will be enough to reflect your emotions!
This book is great example of these extremely fantastic reads and KM Hardy proved one more time to us she is a true literature prodigy! Twists are well played, the riveting action chapters, surprising revelations, survival instincts of the characters with increasing tension were impressively well executed! I LOVED IT SO MUCH!
So, instead of rehashing the blurb, or telling you anything that the hundreds of other reviewers already told – probably better than I can – I will say only this: It was tons and tons of fun, you find yourself hiding your phone somewhere close to your computer screen at work because you don’t want to stop reading. I was entertained and surprised in the best possible way. I am absolutely sure you will be too!
The Redcap (A Sam McKay novel) is an intense thriller written by the author K.M. Hardy. Murder of a rich woman Annabelle Matheson had turned into a cold case as Chicago PD didn't find any clue on the case. So, Edward White asked Director Cooper to look into it. Cooper sent Sampson Angus McKay and his team to investigate the murder case.
Sam's team thought that it would be a very simple task for them but events began to unfold as they started working on the case. During the investigation, will Sam's team find a clue that the previous investigators overlooked?
This is an intense thriller and I loved the way how things unfolded. Hardy's writing style is amazing and the way she gave twists and turns in the story is appreciated. Storyline is very captivating and it kept me on the edge of my seat. If you are into reading murder mystery novels then this one you shouldn't miss at all.
I love mysteries and so glad I discovered K.M. Hardy. Once I got used to Sam's slang I was entrenched in the story and tried to solve the mystery right along with Sam's team. The twists and turns kept me wanting to read more. A great read!
