Every witch has a story that begins with the unexpected!
Part One: Tanglewood Origins
Alexandria, Egypt, 30 AD
In this enemies-to-lovers romance, the last thing Alena expects is to be hauled out of bed by an Egyptian soldier and tossed into a stone cell. Then Orpheus steps from the shadows. The rake who once almost tricked her into his bed is suddenly her partner in a forced mission: to find a celestial weapon promised to Cleopatra.
Orpheus never expected to meet anyone like Alena, let alone to deceive her. Could their immediate connection be due to a common secret— ancestral magic? To survive this game of the gods, he’ll have to earn her trust again and heal old wounds before it’s too late.
The biggest surprise? Surviving their quest is just the beginning.
Part 2: Her Dragon Guardian
Growing up in the Garden of Hesperides, Medea has never wanted for anything. But she and her sisters Circe and Isis have quickly exceeded their parents' magical abilities, fueled by the power of the Tanglewood, a mysterious tree that sprouted the day they were born. Desperate to expand their mystical knowledge, together they conjure a golden grimoire, the most powerful magical text in existence.
Now, even paradise can't provide the one thing Medea wants most, privacy to practice her advanced magic. To get it, she'll break the rules... and come face to face with the handsome dragon who guards the gate.

I am absolutely in love with Genevieve Jack’s Treasures of Paragon series and couldn’t wait to dive into anything that comes from that world. Tanglewood Witches explains how the magical descendants of Circe (and Medea) came to be hiding in Hera’s Garden of the Hesperides, how Hera’s book of magic ended up in their possession, and how the love story between a dragon and a young witch leads right back to Ouros (now Paragon).
I love origin stories and this one is full of detail and adventure. It takes us nearly two thousand years back in time, to when Tavyss, eldest brother to Eleanor and Brynhoff, fell in love with very gifted sorceress who would one day take the throne of the Witch Kingdom of Darnuith. Very well written, imaginative, and delightful! I want to devour everything she writes!
This is a novella in the Treasures of Paragon series by Genevieve Jack.
I waited until after Hidden Dragon to read this. And it made a lot more sense to do that considering the whole Hera’s grimoire was brought up in the previous book.
There is two different stories here. One with Orpheus and Alena and the other featuring their children and the mating of Medea and Tavyss. Tavyss is the brother of the Evil Queen Eleanor who is the rightful heir to the throne of Paragon but didn’t want the position. I am kinda hoping he comes back and takes his rightful place so Gabriel and Raven can live on Earth and have a normal life, but that is just me.
I enjoyed the coming of age story with Medea, Circe and Isis. And the dangerous mission Orpheus and Alean went on was very familiar to me in some way. The part after they passed the River Styx and found the cabin read as if I had read it before and was just remembering the scene. Not sure why. Overall it is a great book and a wonderful addition to the series.
If you love a good supernatural cozy culinary mystery, definitely check this one out.
Wonderful world building, amazing characters and brilliant storytelling. Genevieve Jack is one of the very few authors I have never been disappointed with. This is a short sweet book. Full of witches, dragons, Gods and Goddesses. Magical beings and books of magic based in worlds of wonder where anything's possible. This was a surprise release and it made my day.
This book discusses the beginning of the parents of three sisters - Medea, -Isis, and Circe. Or rather the journey their parents took to have this. It is a good, quick read and I recommend it.
The Tanglewood Witches is book one in The Three Sisters series by Genevieve Jack.
I’ve had Jack on my TBR for a while. The covers for her books are gorgeous and capture the eye. I picked up The Tanglewood Witches for free a while back and I finally read it.
The novel is full of mythology (Greek and Egyptian). I love mythology. I did have to think and remind myself about the stories told about the gods and goddesses, but still it was fun to dive into the myths and have it weaved into a magical story with witches, magic, and supernatural's.
Part One: Tanglewood Origins The first half introduces us to the parents of the three sisters and sends us on a quest that they can’t get out of. It’s a no win situation whether they complete the quest or not for Queen Cleopatra. In the end they are helped by a goddess and end up in Hera’s garden.
Part 2: Her Dragon Guardian The second half introduces us to the triplets; Circe the youngest, Isis the oldest, and Medea the middle. We focus on Medea and her love Tavyss. The sisters have learned all they can from their parents, so they try a spell to bring them books and end up with a magical book made by the gods. As for romance it’s instant. Time goes by fast and in the end all three sisters and Tavyss end up in the outside world. Little surprises along the way and at the end.
In the end The Tanglewood Witches was an enjoyable read. Sweet, fun, and magical. I enjoyed the writing and look forward to reading more from Genevieve Jack.
At first, I was perplexed as to why Ms. Jack would change the short story "The Three Sisters" into "Tanglewood Origins" but I can see why she did it; this first part gives you a first look at the Dragon and the origin of the Sisters. Their parents' story was always memorable for me. Their time in Hades very heartbreaking and the beginnings of the Tanglewood Tree intriguing. At the end the three sisters were born Circe, Medea and Isis.
Part 2 - Her Dragon Guardian - This gives you more about the sisters, especially the 2nd born sister, Medea and the discovery of the Dragon, Tavyss and the kingdom of Paragon. There is a surprise at the end that I kind of saw coming. 4 stars.
There will be two more novels that I am looking forward to reading.
It has a Rick Riordan use of mythology and I liked that the river Lethe wasn't a river but a cursed place. The author has an imagination I'd love to study because the leaps are extraordinary. But the truth is in the storytelling and the structure and where everything hits isn't there. It's two short stories melded together in a way that seems rushed. A fleshed out version of the parents story where the courtship and break up are added would be good. The whole Medea story is a lesser story.
I enjoyed reading the first book in the tanglewood witches series. The best parts were all the Greek and Egyptian gods and goddesses. The three sisters I thoroughly enjoyed. Circe cracked me up. She was always worried about the rules. Then there is Isis and of course Medea.P breaking the rules and making Circe go along. Adding a dragon was awesome. I loved Tavynes. The golden eyes I think. I hope to read !more from this author.
Born in a secret in the garden belonging to Hera, the three sisters have no one but their parents and each other. Their Tanglewood tree has grown strong and the sisters along with it. Wanting to learn more about magic, they conjure a spell book from the underworld. What adventures await?
I love reading about witches! Magic fascinates me. This author is one of my favorites.
A cute story, full of magic, adventure, and finding love
This was well written and well edited. No typos - One of my biggest peeves! The writer has a way of describing scenes that made me feel I was in them. Very descriptive but not overwhelming wordy. It's packed full of adventure, magic, mayhem, finding true love, and a few really coo! characters
I enjoyed reading this book and knowing how the Tanglewood Sisters got their start! I do believe everyone who reads about the Paragonian dragons and then this book will appreciate this read! I definitely recommend this book!
What a beautiful blend of Ancient Greek and Egyptian gods all tied in with witches and dragons! How? And that I loved it? I’m so wowed! This was such a fun story to read and I can’t wait to start book 2 in the Tanglewood Sisters trilogy!
Loved it. Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. I cant wait for the next one to come out. I would definitely recommend this book. 10 out of 10
This was a cute book. My only issue is I wish the two parts of the story, the mom and dad and then the one daughter, were separate and longer to delve more into their relationships.
This Novella contains the story from an anthology some of my favourite writers did and then expands on that story with the next generation. In essence it is the story of the historical happenings of the Dragon series written by the same author. I thoroughly enjoyed it
