I’ll be honest, I’m bored of this series. Which is a real shame because the first 4 volumes were one of the best Isekai stories that I’ve read, the problem is Ainz our protagonist and the Overlord team are rarely in the rest of the series. Given we’re 14 volumes in and none of the characters have had any form of development or progression whatsoever. Instead we have had random love stories, for 3 arcs in a row, it’s getting a bit stagnant. This is coming from a guy who’ll happily read rom coms, the thing is we have this whole story with this couple falling in love etc and then we never see them again. We’ll get a bit with Ainz saying that they’ve accomplished something and then move on with some skit, this time it was him wanting to have a bath with a bunch of blokes like Japanese tradition, it's just not something that invests me.

With this story we have a shy guy who’s interested in boss lady as the goblins say, with a threat from the woodland where orges are taking orders from two different groups in a battle for survival. Now the last bit I may have spiced up a bit but you can tell that’s where the story is going, it’s just we’ve had this story with the lizardmen so why do it again? It just feels lazy, add to that that none of the characters are likeable whatsoever. It just annoys me because as I’ve said this series used to be great but it’s more of an anthology that features the Overlord crew occasionally.

I’m seriously thinking of dropping this series, for all the reasons above and the fact that this series is marketed on the first 4 volumes which have no ramifications on the last 10 volumes we’ve gotten, I get that you have to set things up but 10 volumes to do so is just ridiculous.

A return to Carne Village, the first location where Ainz let this new world know his power, meant that the author was harvesting story threads seeded in that very first arc.

The first few main arcs were all promising and built the base of why this reader enjoys this story.

I hope the author can have a return to form and bring back the excitement of the storytelling of those early arcs in the last volume before the abbreviated end of this series.
