Demon Winter is an unabashed rogue. What better way to find more women to warm his bed than helping his sister Genevieve with her ladies’ gaming establishment? It’s the perfect arrangement. Until a duchess he can’t resist walks through the doors and everything changes.
Mirabel, the widowed Duchess of Stanhope, has rigidly adhered to propriety her entire life, and all it garnered her was a miserable marriage to a cruel man. With her time of mourning over, she is on a mission to be wicked.
Fortunately, the sinfully handsome, wildly unsuitable Demon Winter has offered to aid her in her quest. He’s perfect for the task. Demon is a silver-tongued rakehell ten years her junior who was born in the rookeries. There is absolutely no chance Mirabel will fall in love with him. None.
A lady who has never broken the rules is about to break every one of them. But Demon Winter? He just may break her heart.
USA TODAY bestselling author Scarlett Scott writes steamy Victorian and Regency historical romances with strong, intelligent heroines and sexy alpha heroes. She lives in Pennsylvania and Maryland with her Canadian husband, their adorable identical twins, a demanding diva dog, and one zany cat.
I will never ever think of strawberries the same way. #truestory Demon Winter - the man of the gaming hell, Lady's Fortune, and a handsome devil. With the BIGGEST HEART. Meets the icy on the outside, but burning flame Duchess of Stanhope. What does she want? Something she never had in her marriage of convenience, passion. And BOY-OH-BOY does Mr Winter deliver.
Things I loved: - the words, the story development - the side characters enhanced not overrun the story - steamy, swoony, and love among the East Side.
Things to consider: - series, ah you just need to read it. But if you don't, this book actually stands alone because the focus is on the couple and nothing from previous books you'll miss out on. (Okay you'll miss out on good storytelling and getting to know the siblings so there is that) - quick-paced, page turners like all the Winters novella, so no historical slow burn - stolen touches.
Die-hard fan of Scarlett Scott's writing and this installment of the Winter's Widow did not disappoint. I love all the Winters and how we see these siblings on the outside and learn there is so much more on the inside. Demon is stoic throughout the series, but in his story - he melts and catches fire. These are stories to be devoured in an evening, along a side of strawberries.
Recommendation: Buy it (buy the whole series so you can binge read whenever you need)
Always knew Demon’s book would be a little steamy, wow he’s positively blazing. The penultimate Winter to find his life mate, he offers his services to a beautiful widow who visits his sisters Hell, Lady Fortune.
Number 104, or Mirabel Duchess Of Stanhope, was hoping to find a casual lover, she found a lifetime connection and a soulmate instead. This woman has has a difficult marriage, which resulted in three wonderful children and a need for love and to experience passion, something that was lacking in her excuse for a marriage.
Once Demon and her connect all bets are off, it’s much more than a fling, and the two are smitten. Brilliant characters, passionate chemistry and stunning writing, make for a book that’s very difficult to put down. Loved every page.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Loved the story of Demon and his Mira. Their passion flamed up the pages of my Kindle and the whole story made me sigh. From little Davy's love for Damien and Mira's quest to find passion, the entire book was wonderful. When Damian, aka Demon, went looking for his woman, and met her youngest son and talked about birds, my heart was lost. What an incredible amazing man and his passionate love for her just makes your heart happy. The epilogue was totally awesome and I signed more than once even after the story was over. Love this author more every time I read her. And I don't want the Winter's Saga to ever be over.
A Demon in the sheets, with the heart of an Angel.
Demon Winters. Ruthless. Sexy. Assured. In control. Hiding his heart. Enter the mysterious patron of Lady Fortune, and suddenly the Demon loses his edge, but gains his life. She brings out hidden feelings, deep passion, and the need to belong. She becomes his world.
For Mirabel, Demon is a mystery. A man, seemingly hard and unfeeling, but shows great tenderness and caring toward her- something she has never experienced until him. Together they embark on a journey of love, seeing beyond the cages of society, and finding a HEA that is so satisfying, it brought a lump to my throat.
She did it again! Another wonderful Winter story with a beautiful storyline! This story is about Devil Winter and the beautiful Lady Mirable. I especially loved how and where they met. Devil is one of 12 Winters and they are a tight loving family. Lady Mirable is known in London society as the ice Duchess. The reason being many, so I really recommend reading this lovely and steamy romance. But Lady Mirable has 3 young children from an abusive husband. She is a loving and attentive mother, and Devil loves that about her. This storyline has a beautiful daring Duchess and a handsome man who is not a Lord but loves Mirable. I loved this book and will definitely read it again!
GREAT!!! Winter's Widow by Scarlett Scott is book 12 in The Wicked Winters series and I am holding my breath for book 13…Gavin’s story! This oh so hot story is very well written and I just love the chemistry between Mirabel and Demon. The difference in station between the characters is one that I especially liked and also the forbidden love. Ms. Scott has a true gift for story telling. This story has a widow who was abused, being judgmental, a thieving orphan, kindness, a gaming hell for women, doing one’s duty, putting family first, being anonymous, being attacked and falling in love. I highly recommend this book.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
The wicked Winters are definitely the wonderful Winters as well. Demon Winter (Damian) is the co-owner of an exclusive ladies' gaming establishment, and has only one rule - do not get involved with the patrons of the club. Mirabel, the widowed Duchess of Stanhope, has come to the club for the one thing she has never had - pleasure. Her loveless marriage has given her three wonderful children but she longs for something more for herself. Damian will quickly become one of your favourite rogues and you will immediately root for Mirabel and what she needs. Part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Wonderful, steamy read.
When series have 3-4 books, they usually come full circle and you know there can be no more storylines. That is NOT the case with Scarlett Scott’s Wicked Winter Series! Not only is Winter’s Widow book 12 in the series, but you will be also begging for more to come. Demon Winter is the bad boy women want to love and men want to hate. Demon has taken over the running of Lady Fortune in order to maintain his sister’s secret ad protect her new family’s reputation. Demon only had one rule made by his sister and once Mirabel (the Duchess of Stanhope) walks into the gaming hell and his life, will he be able to keep his word. All formalities aside, there is an instant connection between Damian and Mira (read cover to cover for the details) yet they have so many obstacles to overcome. The Duchess of Stanhope was married young in order to attain that coronet that her mother wanted, but her marriage was miserable save her children. Mirabel will be willing to give up everything she desires for herself in order to protect her children.
Damian has become a changed man and all due to a woman he never expected to sashay into his life and turn it upside down. Damian has also become somewhat of a father figure to our little pickpocket Davy who made his appearance in The Wicked Winters. Damian rules over Lady Fortune in order to protect his sister’s investment as well as helping the less fortunate in the area of the gaming hell, showing that he has a heart of gold. Damian, like his siblings, having been born on the wrong side of the blanket, is not necessarily looking for love and/or a family of his own. Will Damian and Mira be able to overcome all the obstacles in front of them and have a life together or will they go their separate ways? This book is full of secrecy, adults finding their selves after living difficult existences thus far in their lives, children searching for their places in life and extended family members with expectations of their own.
Damian and Mira’s story will have you running through a range of emotions, sitting on the edge of your seat anticipating the ending. Scarlett does not disappoint with Damian and Mira’s story of struggle to find their selves and overcome what society expects them to be based solely on station and title or lack thereof.
I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. These words are my own and I wholeheartedly endorse not only this book, but the entire Winters’ series. Read them in order or however you would like, they do not disappoint.
4.5 stars This was a lovely story with engaging characters. Demon, a very handsome man and Mirabel, Duchess of Stanhope, appear to be made for each other but they come from very different social standings. Mirabel also has to think of her three children and how a scandal would affect them. Mirabel is also ten years older than Demon, something that she is concerned about. I enjoyed the interaction with the children, particularly young Davy, who was a delight. I also liked the way there was such a strong family bond with both sides of the Winter family and the way they worked together to help one another. Mirabel’s sister, Octavia was an interesting character, she held what would be considered unusual views for a lady at that time. I would love for her to have her own story. There is also an attack and a mystery yet to be solved as to why the attack took place. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It may be the Winters, but the heat notches up with Damien and Mirabel to sunstroke level!
Demon was running his sister Gen's lady's gaming house, when she came in and asked to see the owner. With her gold mask on, he did not know who she was but could see she was beautiful.
Mirabel knew it was a crazy idea to come to there, but her sister had the notion she could find a man for what she was to request. She could see when she looked at Demon, "there was nothing polished or polite or aristocratic about this man. He was bold and roguish and rugged. A different kind of longing speared through her."
These two were perfect for each other, although socially different, sometimes, nothing else matter. Prepare to be wowed by another Winter!
The ever Wicked Winter's just keeps getting better and better.. Winter's Widow is no exception.. So much love so much laughter steam and strawberries!! Lol let's not leave out the strawberries and what can be done with a Wicked Demon and strawberries..
The characters are great, the storyline is sublime, and an overall do not miss out on it
I thoroughly enjoyed Demon and Mirabel's story.. I look forward to the next book in the winters collection..
I received this as an arc in exchange for an honest review and these are purely my thoughts and no one else's views
Damien 'Demon' Winter runs Lady Fortune in his sister's stead. He is a charming, handsome rogue who is a favourite with all the ladies who attend his sister's exclusive all female hell. He runs it efficiently and obeys the rule his sister has set 'No tupping the ladies' all is well in Damien's world until a new patron 'number one hundred and four' requests a private audience with Lady Fortune's owner.
Number one hundred and four is none other than Mirabel the Duchess of Stanhope a widowed mother of three young children who has lived all her married life under the strictures and restrictions of both her uncaring husband and society alike. Her late husband cared more for his mistress than he did his wife and children, but he did care about appearances and would not harbour even the merest hint of scandal to the Stanhope name, so Mirabel has gained the moniker of 'the Duchess of Ice' a notorious prude in society's eyes. However Mirabel desires something that she hopes that the secrecy and circumspection of Lady Fortune can give her a lover, a man to show her all that her marriage bed has lacked.
Damien is both shocked and intrigued by this request as this is not a request that has ever been made to him exotic fruit, private card games, different spirits but never this as unlike male gambling hells where female company is a plenty Lady Fortune does not offer the male variety thus ensuring the secrecy of all who enters it's doors.
Damien offers himself to Mirabel who is both aghast and intrigued as he is so much younger than her at least 10 years younger if her assumption is correct. She fears that she has made a grievous mistake in listening to her younger sister Octavia and rushes out of the hell after turning down Damien's offer. Her fears are even more compounded the next morning when she discovers that her treasured grandmother's ruby ring has been filched at Lady Fortune so once again she finds herself seeking a private audience with Damien with the goal of retrieving her precious heirloom.
This encounter proves to be a turning point for them both as Mirabel decides to take Davy home with her in the belief that he is being treated cruelly only to discover after numerous thefts in her own home that Davy is in fact the pickpocket who filched her grandmother's ring. Once again she returns to the hell only this time with Davy in tow.
The attraction that simmers between Damien and Mirabel starts to intensify with each meeting leading to their envitable conclusion, both delight in each other and fear that they are risking so much more when their arrangement concludes. Neither wish for it to end, but circumstances at home make Mirabel reevaluate how she can have both when Damien is attacked and her distraction leads to unforseen consequences for her youngest son at the hands of his governess who disobeys the rules of her house to strike her son. This discovery brings to the fore all that Mirabel stands to lose if she continues down this path, so she decides to end their arrangement.
Damien is devastated by Mirabel's decision to end their arrangement as he loves her, but he doesn't even know her full name so how on earth can he find her to tell her in the hopes of keeping her forever. Help comes in the form of young Davy and the Winters can they turn the tide of opinion and society to temper the scandal that will engulf them when news breaks of the Duchess of Ice with her mysterious beau.

Demon is a silver-tongued rakehell ten years her junior who was born in the rookeries. Another brilliant read from the author, which I read in a sitting. Damien aka Demon was toe curlingly gorgeous. Mira the very proper, almost Ice Duchess, who came alive in Damien’s arms. She's the doting mother of three delightful children & the loving sister to Octavia (I’d love her to find her HEA) I was totally engrossed in the road to their HEA, as the chemistry between the pair was off the scale. I was taken on a range of emotions, tearing up when Damien made his feelings known to Davy. And just don’t get me started on strawberries!! I just loved it & can’t wait for Gavin’s story My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Heart-warming, steamy read by my favorite author! Damian is sex on legs with a heart of gold – the strawberry scene … OMG!!! Mirabel’s background is somewhat different to that which I’ve grown familiar with (the typical virginal heroine) – in this novel the heroine is a widow, 10 years older than the hero and has 3 kids. I found myself really warming up to Mirabel – she’s kind-hearted, a great mother, thinks of others a lot. My favorite scene in this novel was in the epilogue where the entire family is gathered – Mirabel, Damian, her children including Davy who has been adopted into the family, Octavia and best of all - Mirabel is pregnant!! There was so much love and tenderness in that room. I can’t wait to read Winter’s Warrior next! It’ll be a bit sad to say goodbye to this series but I’m pretty sure Scarlett Scott has something bigger and better in store for us!
Scarlett Scott is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely love her. I have read every one of her books and they just keep getting better and better. I just love her writing, her characters, her stories. She also writes the best sex scenes. She fills pages of the best described sex. Yummy, she really lets you know exactly what they are feeling. So hot. After reading the Wicked Winter’s series, I realized my favorites are the ones with the male Winters. Devereaux, Dominic (both great reads), Devil (one of my all time favorites in 2020 out of 415 other books), Blade (another great read), and now Demon (OMG so damn good). Such a great read. Can’t wait for Gavin's story.
Starring Demon “Damien” Winter and Mirabel “Mira”, Duchess of Stanhope.
Tropes: Widow, non-peer and a lady, older heroine/younger hero (10yr difference), desperately seeking lover.... and a tiny bit of intrigue.
Omigosh!! Another wonderful Winters tale from the amazing Scarlett Scott!! I am so in love with Mira and Damien... and once again I am a blubbering, ugly cry af mess. These two definitely gave me all the feels.
Demon is all kinds of deliciousness and the perfect man to introduce Mira to the awesome world of carnal pleasures. Even though she was married and has children, sex has always been a “duty” for her... so it was nice that she was able to blossom through Demon’s sensual expertise. Honestly, I melted every time these two were on the page. But he is also attentive and understanding when Mira put her “other” life first. I loved everything about Demon and, once again, another wicked Winter brother is my book boyfriend.
Mira is known in her circle as the Duchess of Ice... which is totally sad because she’s the most loving person. She’s a wonderful mother and a wonderful older sister. I’m glad she was able to let her hair down and be herself with Demon. She truly deserves to spend the rest of her life with someone who appreciates everything about her.
Bonus secondary characters... I love Demon’s relationship with Davy. They made me ugly cry a lot. Octavia, Mira’s sister, is wonderful and I want her to have her own HEA!!
Scarlett Scott weaves magic with her words and always gives us a spectacular stories that grips the heart. I’m once again giving her a standing ovation for Winter’s Widow. She continues to be a Keeper Shelf Author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.
My star rating: 5 stars Ugly cried AF. Major book hangover. Characters and storyline were freaken amazeballs. Made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will definitely be re-reading this over and over again!!
This book is absolutely perfection. Demon Winter is a rogue who helps his sister Genevieve with her ladies’ gaming establishment in order to protect her reputation. But when a duchess he can’t resist walks through the doors asking for a lover, everything is going to change. Mirabel is such an amazing woman. She is a loving mother of three with a generous heart and a need for new experiences. She is strong and brave and opens herself to the opportunity to be someone else. Some sensual female who is not just a mum, but also a woman who asks for placer and learns from it. Demon Winter is the perfect man for the job. He may be ten years her senior, but he knows his way around women. He is going to teach her about passion and lovemaking, but in the process he is going to offer a lot more than just his body: a big heart full of dreams and a strong desire to belong. These two are something else. They have so much chemistry that I think I blushed a couple of times. But there are also sweet moments. All the kids, including Davy, are great side characters. I love this book SO MUCH that I had to reach the author and tell her myself. I have read all her books, but this one has a special place in my personal heaven of books. Don´t miss it for the world!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’m not crying, you’re crying … and smiling too, when you read this book. “Winter’s Widow” is book 12 in The Wicked Winters series by Scarlett Scott. It’s amazing how much action, passion, emotion and pure entertainment this author can pack into a novella. If you’re familiar with any of the books in this great series of interconnected stand-alones, then you already understand what I mean.
Demon is a man born and raised on the rough side of life, now running the gaming hell established by his half-sister. He’s handsome and confident, but not one to have or show feelings outside of what he has for his assorted half-siblings. Mirabel has spent her life burying her own interests and desires, and instead obediently doing what others in her circle of the aristocracy required of her. After the official mourning obligation for her late husband ends, she summons all her courage to try and seek out an opportunity to be wicked for once in her life. She adores her young children, but she’s lonely. Demon savors showing her that wicked can be wonderful. The chemistry and the conversation between them sizzle.
Characters from other books in the series make appearances in this one, adding even more dimension to the story. And can I just say how much I adore Davy, the smart-mouthed, orphaned pickpocket? The HEA was joyful. I really loved the unresolved aspects of other parts of the book, which will clearly lead to the next story. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and a bowl of strawberries, and settle in to enjoy every page of this journey with Demon and Mirabel.
Series: The Wicked Winters #12 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
Demon Winter has taken over running his sister Genevieve’s gambling establishment for ladies. Everything is going smoothly until one beautiful woman asks him for a night of passion.
Another Winter sibling falls in love! I really enjoyed Demon and Mirabel’s story. These two had instant chemistry that was hot! Mirabel was a surprisingly great heroine. She was a wonderful mother who went out of her way to be a part of her kids' lives instead of having others raise them. Also for a woman who was in an abusive arranged marriage, she really comes out of her shell quickly and I liked that because sometimes you just need to be with the right person to heal.
Demon was a protective man who fell hard for Mira. I adored how he handled meeting her children and being a part of her life. I really love how he took Davy under his wing and treated him like a son. It was great. Also I should note that there is a ten year age gap between them and I loved that Mira was the older one.
Overall, this was another great Winter romance. I can’t wait to read the next book and see Gavin fall in love.
Wow. LIKE WOW. This is the BEST regency romance I have ever read. And I have enjoyed every single one of the Wicked Winters. And LOVED them all. So I was shocked when this one deeply drew me in and wouldn’t let me go until I finished it. It was just so juicy and delicious. YUM
One thing that I absolutely adored was that it was Demon who seemed to fall head over heels in love first with Mira. Even though he tried to deny it when his sister, Gen, took one look at him and call him out. Then again Davy knew it as well. Loved that boy. Then again, what didn’t I love? BECAUSE I loved everything about this book. It is HOT, steamy and oh so romantic. I already want to pick it back up again and restart it.
Possibly favorite part (?) and POSSIBLE **SPOILER**
I loved that all the Winters gathered to try and find a way for Damion and Mira to be together easily and with as little gossip in the end. I truly love this family. They all look out for each other and love each other. I never want this series to end. I really do love them all like I am apart of them or something.

Oh, those Wicked Winters! This is one delectable series! The story of Demon and Mirabel was one that I just couldn’t put down! She’s a widowed Duchess, finally free from a loveless, abusive marriage. She’s always done the right things, striving to be the perfect Duchess, and perfect mother. She’s never done anything for herself until her sister encourages her to go to the women’s Gaming Hell and seek out a liaison. When she meets Demon she is enthralled! This gorgeous man is sin incarnate. She is like a moth to the flame, and he is equally smitten by her, it seems. This relationship is steamy and delightful. They can’t get enough of one another, but she is torn between her two lives, as well as her fear of being discovered. He knows that he is not good enough for her, and that they could never have a lasting relationship. But you will be routing for them, start to finish, to achieve that HEA!
Widowed Miranda the Duchess of Stanhope reluctantly decides it’s time for a little pleasure for herself to find out what she’s been missing all these years. Lady Fortune is more than just a gamble establishment everyone’s identity is secret to protect them from vicious gossip. Wickedly handsome Demon Winter runs Lady Fortune for his sister and when member #104 askes to see the owner with her request he’s quite intrigued. Demon knows he can never know her identity, but that doesn’t stop him from giving her everything she asks for and more. Miranda is a totally torn between the pleasure and companionship Demon gives her, she knows the relationship must end. I love this captivating book of opposites being attracted to each other as they enjoy the hidden pleasure to be had from the forbidden to them. Can their love survive when the truth of her secret identity comes out? I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent story.
I feel like I say this all the time, but I do Love these Winter’s stories. This is a stand-alone book, you do not really have to read any of the other books, but I do not know why you would not want to, they are all great. This book is about Demon/Damian Winter who is an illegitimate rogue who is from the East End and Mirabel/Mira who is a Widow Duchess. They meet at Lady Fortune, where Damian works, and Mira goes to find a lover. Mira had an unhappy marriage and now she is a widow, she wants to have a little fun. This only going to be temporary, but their feelings are too strong. The chemistry and heat between these two will make you have to fan yourself. I like Damian and Mira, I also like Davy and Octavia. I am counting the days until the next book comes out. I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
At the beginning of this story, I thought it was nice and a bit sexy but as the story went along the development of these characters wowed me. Who knew a man named Demon would turn out to be such a softie? This story had one thing that I always love seeing in books, family. I know the Winters are all about family, but the depth of family is outstanding in this story – both on the side of Demon and Mirabel. Scarlett you have once again astounded me with the depth of writing and the emotions it brings about. The ending of this story will have you grabbing for tissues.
So where is Gavin? What is Octavia doing in the rookeries? Will she be getting her own story? Are the Suttons on the horizon?
Scott draws the reader into a plot with the expert skill of author that has written 11 unique books about a family that grows by blood and circumstance. Each book has intriguing female heroines that challenge the cultural norms and thoughts of the male characters that desire them. I cannot get enough of Scott’s work. The romance between Demon and Mirabel has a pulse that beats loudly off the pages. The plot urges the reader on to devour the action with the spice of their relationship. This book can be read as a standalone novel but if you have extra time, start at book 1 and don’t stop until you feel like the Winter clan has become a dear friend you can’t stop introducing to everyone you know.
What is it with these Wicked Winters men? They are so tough, so strong, so charismatic, but also so available to open up and be vulnerable. And when they find their woman, they know it and will do whatever it takes to show it.
Winters Widow has a really unique storyline with Mirabel, a widowed duchess raising her children, including the next Duke. She had a terrible marriage and is due for someone to really take care of her. Demon is a silver-tongued rogue who ends up falling quickly for his Mira, despite their major differences in station and experiences, as well as age!
This story is HOT, but also has a lot of soul and places where you cannot help but feel compassion for the two characters. Loved reading their story!
This delightful series has really brightened my housebound year! This one is the story of the Duchess of Stanhope whose abusive husband has finally kicked the bucket and Demon Winter, another handsome Winter sibling. In the previous books, Gen Winter has married and Demon now is the visible manager of Gen's gambling club for ladies. Mirabel comes to him with a proposition, an offer he can't resist. The rest is somewhat predictable but no less enjoyable. At the end we are left with the disappearance of Gavin Winter, the last of the unwed Winter siblings. I look forward to that story but not to the end of this series!
When your Heart needs a boost: sweet and sexy Older woman Younger Man Swionfewr
I fell in love with these characters. The greatest compliment you can give a novella is to wish it were a book, and that is what I found myself longing for. I wish their story could continue for another 200 pages.
The Duchess and her scoundrel Mr. Winter fluffed up my heart like a big comfy pillow and just fell in.
It’s a novella, so I don’t want to give too much away. Spice level is I think a 3/5, sweetness a 500/5.
Happiness Index after reading? 1000! Tropes : older woman, class difference, pregnancy, found family
