Restart (盗墓笔记重启/Daomu Biji Chong Qi) is the most recently released novel sequel to the main series Daomu Biji written by Xu Lei. It is only available online and has not been published. In 2020, it was adapted into a two season television series titled "Reunion: Sound of the Providence."
Synopsis: After fulfilling his ten years promise with Zhang Qiling, Wu Xie is now living in seclusion in Fujian. One day, he suddenly receives a text message from his uncle, Wu Sanxing. Through various clues his uncle left behind, Wu Xie finds an ancient tomb that may be related to his uncle’s past. The tomb is the legendary South Sea King’s Tomb. But just as Wu Xie plans to search for it, Jin Wantang reveals his plan to his Uncle Two. After Uncle Two stops him and hears the story, he decides to join Wu Xie, Fatty, and Zhang Qiling as they search for the tomb.
A gripping story with strong emotional heart - Wu Xie's whole arc gives me all the feels. There are still echoes of what happened in those ten years, haunting this story, and I love how it conveys how much the characters have been through. We really grow with them in the DMBJ universe.
On the other hand, this feels rushed towards the end, and there's also that whole bit where NPSS says he digressed from what he originally wanted to write, and just skipped without bridging to the point he needed to reach, abandoning lots of interesting foreshadowing. Ridiculous. Why do I keep coming back? (I know why.)
Unfinished and ended on a cliffhanger, again. I'm really not sure blowing up a fire with a grenade will make there be LESS fire, Wu Xie. This one was creepier than the others - the monsters were less visible and more in their heads.
All good. It would've been nice to have more holes filled. Now up to the drama to see what was added or taken out. (Drama is called Lost Tomb Reboot; The Sound of Providence, Part I&II)
Ok, that was the end of PRT IV. Not again!!!!!!! Please , please, please Don't let them in limbo like that!
I could feel how worn out Wu Xie was physically and mentally after all these years dealing with the Wang family, and also his sorrow because of his missing uncle. I loved how Xiao Ge is always so supportive of Wu Xie despite knowing since the beginning he was ill and he could lose him at any moment, but he still chose to respect his choice and accompany him to protect him as he always does.
